When an evil Kaijin organization from another dimension, Antinoid, attacks the Earth, the hero known as Rapid Rabbit steps up to defend it. However, she's cornered and defeated by the general Honey Trap... only to promptly fall in love with her upon seeing her unmasked; finding herself incapable of killing her, Honey flees. She's then promptly fired by the Antinoid's leader, X, and without a home to return to, is saved by Rabbit, her real name Honjou Hayate, and chooses to stay with her to defend her town with her.

The series is licensed in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment.

This manga contains examples of:

  • 11th-Hour Ranger: Before the Final Boss fight, the heroes need two more people to wield their extra Transformation Trinkets and help them with their plan. In comes Hina Fujigami, who lost her powers as Orb Owl in a previous chapter, and Makoto Fujigami, her sister, to become Orb Owl Next and Shield Sea-Dra.
  • Alien Arts Are Appreciated: Kyouka was sent to do reconnaissance on the human world, and ended up becoming a massive Otaku.
Kyouka: Watching anime, peeking up the skirts of figures, and swamping myself in dating sims with nary a care... I'll n'er get tired of that.
  • Alliterative Name:
    • Honjou Hayate/Rapid Rabbit
    • Orb Owl
    • Reboot Rabbit
  • All Part of the Show: When Kaijins attack a tokusatsu theater show in Chapter 4, various bystanders wonder if it's a part of the show until Hayate says that it isn't.
  • An Ice Person: Cool Down can freeze her surroundings, and can also instantaenously create massive chunks of ice to knock people away. Rapid Rabbit shivers in her presence when she transforms for the first time.
  • Antiquated Linguistics: Kyouka speaks like this all of the time, to further emphasize her Japanese samurai motif.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Hayate is a big fan of superhero shows on television, and gets the chance to be one in real life.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Rapid Rabbit is the only character to rely completely on hand-to-hand combat, without any powers or weaponry.
  • Beach Episode: Pool Episode: Chapter 11.
  • Berserk Button: Cool Down doesn't take kindly any time a Yuri moment is interrupted.
  • Beta Couple: Melt Out and Kyouka. They also double as an Unholy Matrimony.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: X, leader of the Antinoid is at first intimidating, but is quickly shown to be childish, petty, and generally not treated with much respect by the other members. Then she shows up in front of Hayate and cheerfully threatens to unleash a Kaijin on innocent people unless Hayate talks with her. Then X nonchalantly shoots Orb Owl's sister in the shoulder to drive the young hero over the Despair Event Horizon and corrupt her into an Antinoid. X then reveals that she had created the heroes' Transformation Trinkets to create stronger Antinoids. When she finally displays her true power in battle, she becomes a full-on Knight of Cerebus, easily defeating the heroes and forcing Honey Trap to return to her side.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: The Antinoid generals are all humorously eccentric, but repeatedly show themselves to be capable threats.
  • Cast Full of Gay: Almost every single named character is a woman in love with another woman. In Cool Down's case, she's in love with the idea of Yuri love.
  • Catapult Nightmare: In Chapter 13, Hayate leaps up in her bed after having a nightmare reminiscing about how X trounced her and Honey, and took Honey with her.
  • Cerebus Retcon: When Honey asks Hayate where she got her Transformation Trinket early on, Hayate cheerfully explains that she found it at a shopping mall in the neighboring town. Honey is perplexed that Hayate's Super Hero Origin sounds so mundane. Many chapters later, Hayate reveals the whole story, which is significantly darker and more traumatic.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Hayate will help anyone when she sees them in trouble, even a former evil general. This stems from her failure from saving a lost little girl from the very first monster she fought against.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: X tortures Kyouka for her loss against Honey... by selling off her anime figure collection online.
  • Create Your Own Hero: It's revealed that X is responsible for creating Hayate's Dimension Tool. She intended for the human who found it to become corrupted by it and turn into an Antinoid. However, Hayate turned out to have a low affinity with the device, and instead used what abilities it did give her to become a hero.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Honey and Hayate's first battle ends with Honey quickly defeating the hero. Hayate survives thanks to Honey's Love at First Sight.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Hayate became Rapid Rabbit when a Destroy Antinoid attacked the mall she was in. Though she defeats it, it blows up and kills the lost little girl she was with. It was then that she developed her Chronic Hero Syndrome.
  • Declaration of Protection: Hayate vows to protect and house Honey Trap while she is healing.
  • Distant Finale: Downplayed, as the last half of the last chapter takes place after a three-year time skip.
  • The Dragon: This was the nature of Honey's original relationship with X, as while the other Antinoids began developing their own quirks and diverging from their original natures, Honey remained resolute in her villainy until her encounter with Hayate. This is a major part of why X reacted so harshly as a result, and why her unrequited attachment to Honey continues to drive her villainous actions in the later half of the story.
  • Emergency Transformation: Inverted; the Antinoid generals can avoid the standard Defeat Equals Explosion part of their losses by quickly transforming back to their human forms.
  • Emotion Eater: Antinoids use negative emotions like anger or fear to fuel their technology and kaijin. Whenever they're low on it, X bullies her minions to get more.
  • Evil Costume Switch: When Orb Owl is corrupted into an Antinoid, parts of her Orb Owl habit turn black, and the orbs on her suit are replaced with Antinoid eyes.
  • Evil Genius: Melt Out is the tech specialist of the Antinoid army, creating the weapons and kaijin that they use.
  • Evil, Inc.: Played for Laughs, since the Antinoids seem to at least partially run their forces like a business. Generals receive paid wages and days off, the production of soldiers, and Kaijin costs funds, and Honey is denied any severance pay when X fires her.
  • Expy: Kamen Rider, naturally, with Hayate herself being a dead ringer for the selfless and kind Riders like Yusuke and Gentaro, with the reveal being that she was motivated to become a hero from the death of a little girl she failed to save making her a lot like Eiji. And just like Kamen Riders, who have their "Cross of Flame". it turns out that heroes' Transformation Trinkets are created from X to serve as monsters. And then later on, we get Super Sentai elements courtesy of a giant transforming robot.
  • Extremely Protective Child: Mitsuki Moe's rationale for initially declaring Hayate and Honey to be her nemeses is because they tried to beat Kyouka and Melt Out. She takes it upon herself to fight Hayate and Honey without any prompting from her mothers.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: When Orb Owl is corrupted into an Antinoid, her regular eyes are permanently closed, and the orbs on her forehead, shoulders, stomach, and other places transform into Antinoid eyes.
  • Foreshadowing: After Kyouka's first loss to Hayate and Honey, Melt Out suggests the possibility of the pair bringing out "a new hero or a giant robot or something." Several chapters later, a new hero, Orb Owl, does in fact appear.
  • Fusion Dance: To counter X's battle form, Honey Trap and Rapid Rabbit fuse to a new form. Its enough to rival her power.
  • Good Costume Switch: Honey's human appearance while still an Antinoid general consisted of a revealing black mini dress and short cape. Upon joining forces with Hayate, she switches to a casual business suit and glasses. She still fights using her usual Antinoid form, however.
  • Has a Type:
    • Upon seeing her face for the first time, Honey immediately realizes that Hayate is her type.
    • Kyouka likes blonde tsunderes with twin pigtails (i.e. Melt Out with a new hairstyle) while Melt Out likes otaku girls (i.e. Kyouka).
  • Heel–Face Turn: Part of the entire premise of the story. Honey, one of the villainous generals, defects from her organization and joins forces with the hero.
  • Henshin Hero: Rapid Rabbit for Hayate, naturally. Honey Trap follows this after joining her. Orb Owl as well.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: In Chapter 22, an anguished X confesses to Cool Down that she felt left behind from watching the rest of her fellows find love over time, while she remained all alone. X then cries out that, if she can't escape that feeling of loneliness, she'll instead ruin everyone else's chances at love.
  • Improbably Female Cast: There are zero named non-female characters.
  • Ironic Name: The kanji for "Kyouka"note  translate into "to strengthen/fortify/bolster", but Kyouka herself suffers acute Villain Decay after Hayate and Honey defeat her for the first time.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: In Chapter 26, a dying X's Last Request to Hayate is to love Honey enough to make up for all the times that X came up short.
  • Kid Hero: Hina Fujigami, aka Orb Owl, who also finds a Dimension Tool and starts fighting alongside Hayate and Honey. It's quite brutally deconstructed when the sight of her big sister being wounded by X gets her corrupted and turns her into a Antinoid. As X puts it, because Hina's just a child, this also means that she also has less control over her emotions, and a traumatic shock was enough to break her.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Whenever an Antinoid is destroyed, all memory of them fades from the mind of any human who witnessed them. The only exception is Hayate. This is because she's wearing a Dimension Tool. Any other human with one is also immune.
  • Last Episode, New Character: After Chapter 26's three-year Time Skip after the Final Battle, Hayate and Honey meet a girl in a park named Meme, who bears a resemblance to the late X.
  • Love at First Sight: Honey Trap falls in love with Rapid Rabbit after defeating her and seeing her face, realizing that Rapid Rabbit is exactly her type, and flees rather than finish her off. It's what gets her fired.
  • Love Confession: In chapter 20 Honey had planned to confess to Hayate, but when the time came she felt because of her past and being an Antinoid she was unworthy of being with Hayate, at least until she had properly atoned, but just as she is about to walk away Hayate confesses to her instead.
  • Love Epiphany: Hayate realizes her feelings for Honey Trap after she fuses with her to fight X.
  • Luminescent Blush: Honey Trap usual reaction to being praised by Hayate.
  • Made of Evil: X states to Hayate that the energy from negative human emotions like anger, sadness, and fear is what Kaijin and Dimension Tools are powered by. Chapter 22 reveals that X and company were formed from a singular extradimensional being "born from the negative feelings that all humans possess", which eventually split into five parts to form the villains.
  • Make My Monster Grow: Melt Out eventually creates a power-up drug capable of transforming a Kaijin into a powerful, giant form.
  • Monster of the Week: The Antinoid Kaijin. It's humorously justified: when Hayate expresses concern about the idea of facing multiple Kaijin at once, Honey dismisses the possibility since the cost of additional Kaijin are deducted from the generals' paychecks.
  • Mood Whiplash: Both Played for Laughs and Played for Drama:
    • When told by Melt Out that Honey has joined forces with Rapid Rabbit, X confidently declares that she looks forward to fighting the pair and lets out a classic Evil Laugh... only for Melt Out to tell her to "stop trying to be cool," which leads to X throwing a childish tantrum over Honey leaving.
    • Chapter 9 is a mostly light-hearted montage of the heroes defeating a series of Kaijin. Then X steps out of the shadows and shoots Hina's sister through the shoulder.
  • Mook: The generic Meta-Warriors that the Antinoids use.
  • Mundane Utility: Honey Trap uses her transformation device to change her clothes.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: When Honey describes the Antinoid forces to Hayate, she gives Melt Out and Kyouka Suigetsu accurate summaries... then skips over Cool Down since she "doesn't show up much," and promptly dismisses X as "trash."
  • My Greatest Failure: The reason why Hayate devoted herself to protecting humanity from Kaijin is deep regret over failing to save a little girl's life on the first occasion that she became Rapid Rabbit.
Hayate: The only thought that filled my mind was... the reality that "I failed to protect the person I wanted to protect". [...] Maybe the reason I started all of this, was because I wanted to overwrite the fact that I couldn't protect Yuumi-chan. I didn't want anyone else to get hurt. I had to protect anyone.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Parodied; after the Yuri Fan Cool Down scares off two guys flirting with a pair of young lesbians, she's devastated to discover that the girls are now both infatuated with her, rather than each other.
  • No Hugging, No Kissing: Downplayed. While there is romance and hugging, mentions of sex and kissing total to zero.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: After meeting Honey, Hayate eventually comes to the conclusion the Humans and Antinoids really aren't that different from one another. This then leads to her deciding that instead of defeating X and the Antinoid army she would much rather find a peaceful solution where everyone can be happy.
  • Oddly Small Organization: Not counting the Meta Warriors and the Kaijin, the Antinioid forces consist of just the leader, X, and the generals (of which there are only three after Honey defects).
  • Older Than They Look: Hayate's design and her overall attitude make her come off more like a high schooler than a 21-year-old woman.
  • Otaku: Kyouka Suigetsu enjoys the culture of Japan and when not being the cool swordswoman of the Antinoids, she enjoys browsing the different pop-culture shops.
  • Psycho Lesbian: It turns out that X wants Honey Trap to herself, and her maliciousness towards her is a result of Honey Trap spurning her advances.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: The Antinoid generals are more interested in pursuing their personal hobbies (Melt Out's research, Kyouka's Otaku obsessions, and Cool Down's Yuri obsessions) than pursuing their organization's "destroy the world" agenda. Melt Out and Kyouka are civil whenever they run into Hayate and Honey on their day off, and Cool Down outright abandons a fight she pretty much won after seeing their "resonance".
  • Quantity vs. Quality: Honey explains that the Antinoids' Meta Warriors are more numerous because they're cheaper to manufacture, but they aren't terribly strong. The Kaijin have greater power and multiple forms but are much more costly to make.
  • Rollerblade Good: Cool Down has retractable ice skates built into her boots, which she uses to great effect to outmaneuver Hayate in their first fight, after she freezes the ground.
  • Sensible Heroes, Skimpy Villains: Honey Trap's battle form shows off her cleavage and looks more akin to insectoid alien bondage gear, while Hayate's Rapid Rabbit armor covers her whole body and doesn't show an inch of skin.
  • Shout-Out:
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Orb Owl wields a shortbow-like apparatus on her left arm, in a world where other fighters wield explosives and sidearms.
  • Spanner in the Works: Both Hayate and Honey are this for X's schemes. X created Hayate's Dimension Tool with the intention of corrupting the human who found it. When Hayate was able to avoid becoming an Antinoid and instead began fighting against X's forces, X sent Honey to deal with her. Honey fell in love with her instead and turned against X.
  • "Super Sentai" Stance: Lampshaded; in her first confrontation with Rapid Rabbit, Honey is baffled not only by the hero's "excessive posing," but also her own combatant henchmen simply standing around and letting it happen.
  • Tsundere: Melt Out is a Tsun type, acting cold and distant to everyone but Kyouka and later Moe.
  • The Alleged Boss: X gets no respect from her subordinates. It's to the point that Melt Out creates a Kaijin to slap X repeatedly just so she would give her a day off. The moment X finally decides to get her hands dirty shows that she could've subjected her subordinates to absolute hell if she was actually motivated to do so.
  • There Is Only One Bed: Hayate sleeps in a sleeping bag for a while after giving up her bed to Honey while she heals, Honey suggests that they share the bed so Hayate can get a good night's sleep and Honey gets the chance to spend some close time with Hayate.
  • Thinking Up Portals: X can freely conjure up portals to traverse between Earth and the Antinoid realm.
  • Third-Person Person: Hina always speaks like this when referring to herself.
  • Transformation Trinket: The "Dimension Tools," which all of the characters use to transform.
  • Undressing the Unconscious: Honey fights off the assassin X sent after her and passes out just as Hayate finds her. Honey wakes up in bed and finds she is naked except for bandages.
  • Villain Decay: Kyouka is first introduced as a capable threat, but once Orb Owl starts fighting alongside Hayate and Honey she quickly degrades to a punching bag for the heroes.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Hayate and Honey encounter Melt Out and Kyouka during their day off. Honey complains that she never got a day off.
  • Wham Line: X gives a massive one to Hayate at the end of Chapter 9:
X: You must've thought it was strange, right? Why is it that humans who get their hands on a Dimension Tool can transform into a hero? And now, what's happening to the Fujigami sisters... the answer is simple. That Dimension Tool, as well as the ring you possess... they were created for the sole purpose of turning humans into Antinoids.
  • Wham Shot: In Chapter 7, X reveals her own Dimension Tool, and it looks just like a black version of Hayate's.
  • Woman Scorned: The main motivation of X to go after Hayate and Honey Trap is that Honey choose Hayate over her.
  • You Have Failed Me: After Honey Trap fails to defeat Rapid Rabbit, X fires her and sends an assassin after her ...until it's revealed that X was going to tell her that she was joking but got caught up in the moment and wanted the assassin to bring her back after beating her up a bit. Becomes much darker when it turns out that X wants Honey Trap all to herself, and acts like a spurned lover when Honey Trap refuses her advances.
  • Younger Than They Look: Mitsuki Moe, who is created by Melt Out with the appearance of a teen and most likely Meme, who is heavily implied to be some form of reincarnation of X that died only three years before Meme's appearance.
  • Your Head Asplode: Honey's head blows up the first time Hayate calls her "Honey-chan." She's mostly fine in the next panel, save for a bit of an Ash Face.
  • Yuri Fan: The Antinoid general Cool Down enjoys watching two girls "resonate" with each other.
  • Yuri Genre: Combined with the superhero genre (namely Kamen Rider) and a glowing example at that.
