This series contain the following tropes:

  • Accidental Proposal: Subverted. When Jamie has to get Jenna's wedding ring from Coop's tool chest, Racheal helps Jamie to look. She finds the wedding ring, then asks if Jamie was proposing to her. Before Jamie can answer, she politely turns him down, saying that she is not ready to get married. When Jamie tells her the ring isn't for her, she comes to the realization that Coop was planning to propose to Jenna. She then screams and acts as if SHE was the one who was proposed to.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: In Jenna's case, it probably isn't a good idea to leave the kid you are supposed to be babysitting alone in an abandoned city that may or may not be infested with giant alien bug monsters, while you go fight against said giant alien bug monsters elsewhere. But if she hadn't done so, then Skippy would have never stumbled across his own giant robot, which he used to defeat the evil empress Lunareon. Not to mention save Jenna, Racheal, and the Ultra-Cadets from being devoured.
    • Putting the Orbital Planetary Ballistic Missiles button next to the phone button may not seem like a good idea, but it did result in the Glorft being defeated when one of the missiles doesn't explode and just heads for Gorrath's mech. And all the way from Long Island no less.
  • Action Girl: Kiva, and to a lesser extent, Jenna.
    • Racheal has her moments as well.
  • All for Nothing: Played for Laughs
    • In "Grill Power", Coop spends over $500 dollars on a new BBQ, which gets destroyed by the Monster of the Week. After the fight it is revealed that Coop had entered a contest for creating a rib rub recipe & the grand prize was a new Omegacue BBQ
    • In "Jamie & The Beanstalk", Coop had thought he failed taking care of his mother's garden. He tries to restore it by having Megas spray plant grow onto the garden, setting the events of the episode in place. At the end, it turns out that Coop was only supposed to dispose of the bad crops as Jenna had come by to harvest the good crops for the Jersey City Farmer's market.
  • All Your Powers Combined:
    • Megas and Megas 2 perform a Fusion Dance to become Megas Supreme.
    • Ultrabot Z & Uno can merge with Megas when they transform into bio energy to become Megas Omega. This has Megas take on the appearance similar to Omega's second form from Mega Man Zero 3.
    • A villianous example is with Gorrath & The Commander. In "Backseat Driver", they perform their own Fusion Dance with 2 versions of Mecha-Megas to create Mecha-Megas Surpreme. However, since they don't fight well as a team, Kiva was able to give them a beating, until her body gave out due to the pressure of controlling Megas 2 with her nervous system
    • Then in the Grand Finale, the two then perform this with their allies fuse into one giant mecha, Ultimate-Megas. It's basically Coop & Jenna piloting Megas Supreme, who in turn, is inside a giant monster truck, which sits atop a planet sized version of Megas.
  • Area 51: Area 50 is not just a facility, but an organization within the military. In addition to the R.E.C.R, they are also responsible for the creation of the Mecha Gear, the P.R.I.M.A.L and the Diablos. They are fully aware of Megas and the Glorft, but have no interest in direct confrontation as it would be a losing battle. It is also revealed that Area 50 found both Megas & Megas 2 during the 1950's and reverse engineered its technology to create both the Mecha Gear & the R.E.C.R. High Command, the leading force behind Area 50, ordered both Megas to be destroyed, but the technology was so powerful, they decided to bury both robots in different locations. Take a wild guess where both robots ended up.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Coop's rants are still out in full force, in fact, there are some episodes where Coop gets more than one rant!
    • Jenna gets her fair share of rants with episodes focusing around her
Jenna: You arrogant self-centered loser! You kidnap me, force me to become your girlfriend, and when you find out, I'm with the guy who kicked your butt, you're gonna destroy me, just so you can get back at him!? I don't think so.
    • Skippy gets a few of his own rants as well!
Skippy: Ok you ugly makeup-wearing drama queen! You make me miss going to the arcade, you sick a giant booger insect on me, and you attack me and my robot! Now I'm gonna show you how we Cooplowski's are winners!
    • Kiva, Racheal, Goat, and even Gorrath get to do a rant!
  • Ass Kicks You: Jenna has used her large butt as a weapon in the episode "Tag Team". Where she smothers the Commander's face with her giant rear.
  • Battle Couple: Both Coop and Jenna are a couple and they kick ass together whether they're piloting their robots or just as themselves.
    • Coop & Kiva are also considered to be this, but in a non romantic way.
  • Beanstalk Parody: In "Jamie and the Beanstalk", after failing to take care of his mother's garden, Coop combines plant growth with Megas to restore it only for a giant beanstalk to grow in its place. Jamie imagines there being a giant castle in the sky filled with gold. The gang climbs the beanstalk for fun, only to find that there is an actual castle that has been hidden for centuries. Inside is an ancient robot who kidnaps a woman who Coop & Jamie know, along with a goose. Coop rescues both and defeats the robot. But in the process destroys the anti-gravity device keeping the castle afloat in the air. It comes crashing down on Jersey City. Just another day in Jersey folks!
  • Berserk Button:
    • Zig-Zagged, and only for one special instance. While most of Coop's Berserk Buttons are Played for Laughs, It is played seriously straight when it comes to threatening to harm or kill Jenna, and only when it's Evil Coop that does it. For anyone else, Coop wouldn't even bat an eye since he knows Jenna has her own robot to take care of things. But for Evil Coop, he flies into a rage. This is because not only did Evil Coop destroy Coop's original Megas, but it is revealed that He kills the Jenna of his dimension. And taunts Coop by saying he will kill the Jenna of his dimension right in front of him.
    • Whatever you do, do not damage Racheal's Nails or Perm.
    • And God forbid should you destroy Coop's gaming chair, or wreck his Omegacue BBQ.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Jenna is just as fat as Coop, but her weight is distributed to make her more of a pear shape. She clearly wears her weight well and like Coop is Fat and Proud.
Jenna: Hey! I like my big butt!
  • Big Damn Kiss: Coop & Jenna's first kiss. To put it in Coop's own words:
Coop: Felt like, eating a Philly Cheesesteak, wrapped with bacon and baked inside a pizza!
  • Big Eater: Jenna is the only other character that can even be considered a rival to Coop. She enjoys food just as much as Coop does and she can always keep up with Coop when it comes to eating. In fact, whenever there is an eating contest and BOTH are participating. It will often always end in a tie. It's just one of the few things that Coop finds attractive about Jenna.
Jamie: Wait a minute. You and Jenna, in an eating contest? At the same time!?
  • Big Fun: Jenna has a fun-loving personality and enjoys either playing video games with her best friend Racheal, or hanging out with her boyfriend Coop.
  • Birds of a Feather: Growing up, both Coop & Jenna had the same interests in video games, wrestling, food, music, etc. Jamie wasn't totally wrong when he thought the pilot of Megas 2 was a female version of Coop.
  • Book Ends: The series concludes with Coop and Jamie's daughters driving Megas to a burger joint like what happens at the end of the first episode.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Characters would occasionally break the 4th wall by referencing the fact they are part of a cartoon or show.
Coop: Now let's see what bad guy I get to beat up this episode!
Jamie: Do you know how long it took us to earn those!? 70 episodes! 70 EPISODES!!!
  • Butt-Monkey: Jamie, and to a much lesser extent, Racheal.
  • Caught on the Jumbotron: After defeating the Glorft in "Battle of the Bands". Coop, Jamie, Jenna, & Racheal win the aforementioned competition. Coop and Jenna engage in long passionate kiss, which is all caught on the Jerseydome Jumbotron for all in attendance to see.
    Goat: Yeah! Rock on Coop!
    Tiny: Way to go man!
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Coop & Jenna have known each other since they were kids & their families are close. They had a brother/sister relationship growing up. One Giant Robot fight later, they reunite. Coop and Jenna pick up where they left off. Coop complements Jenna's appetite. Jenna finds Coop's story about Jamie to be hilarious. It ultimately leads up to a nice Big Damn Kiss scene.
  • Christmas Episode: "How the Glorft stole Christmas" follows Coop and the gang saving Christmas from the Glorft who takes over Santa's workshop in order to convert it into a base.
  • Chubby Chaser: Downplayed With Coop. Implied with Jenna
    • While Coop does like all kinds of women, he admits he likes the feeling of Jenna's fat pressing up against his when they get close.
    • Even though Jenna does not outright say it, he does mention that Warlock is too skinny for her tastes.
Jenna: Forget it! You're way too scrawny to be my type! Coop is more man than you could ever be!
  • The Collector: Jakor travels across the universe, as well as space-time, collecting giant robots and add them to his collection.
  • Continuity Nod: The show also reveals some events for the cast for MTV "Down Town"
    • Alex & Jen develop a relationship and get married in the episode "Fat-Tastic Voyage"
    • It is also revealed that Racheal is a cousin of Alex & Chaka.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Combined with his Stout Strength, Coop can be quite a force to be reckoned with even when not in Megas
    • In the episode "Tag Team", he and Jenna take on Gorrath & The Commander in a tag team wrestling match. Not only is Coop able to hold his own against Gorrath, but he and Jenna manage to win!
    • Then in "Friends, Romans, Megas", he, along with Kiva and Jamie, fight against a legion of gladiator robots. He kicks ass, manages to save Jamie a few times, and kicks even more ass. He even manages to punch one of the robot's heads clean off!
    • In "R.E.G.I.S.C.O.O.P", he fights against his evil counterpart on a one on one match. Evil Coop was trained in martial arts, but Coop watched 12 different martial arts movies. That was more than enough to send Evil Coop to the floor
  • Demoted to Dragon: Zig-Zagged. While Gorrath was always in charge of his own army unit. He was set to become the next successor to the Glorft Highmaster. However after failing to destroy the Earth Coalition, the Highmaster took over of the entire Glorft Army (His unit included). He then told Gorrath he could either go on the front lines to fight, or stay and protect the main citadel from Megas & Megas 2.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Jenna & Racheal are pretty much female counterparts to Coop & Jamie, but have some differences that have them stand out, such as heeding Kiva's advice more often.
    • For Coop & Jenna, they share many similarities. Both are fat. Both enjoy mostly the same things, and of course, both of them have a version of Megas. But they differ on other things. While Coop is more brash, Hot-Blooded, and loud. Jenna tends to be more reserved. Though she can have her moments when she gets caught up in the excitement.
    • For Jamie & Racheal, both are skinny, filled with snark, and try to hit on other people. But Racheal actually contributes more to the group than Jamie does. And she isn't as cowardly as Jamie is.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: The Glorft are defeated once and for all and Kiva finally returns to the future.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: Aside from Evil Kiva, Kivo is male version of Kiva who is a sociopath and stole Megas from the Glorft in order to incite a war between Earth and the Glorft in his dimension. Like Kiva, he planned to send Megas back to his past self and use it to start a war. However his Megas not only went back further in the past, but it was sucked into the main dimension where Jenna & Racheal would ultimately come across it. He temporally manages to retrieve it but is defeated when Jenna uses Coop's robot to get her robot back from Kivo.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Evil Coop uses R.E.G.I.S to bond his powers to his own body. Upon being separated, R.E.G.I.S reforms in Evil Coop's pocket dimension. He then tuns his fury onto Evil Coop for even thinking that he could be used as a weapon.
Regis: How dare you use the Regis Mark V as your own personal weapon. Only the Regis Mark V can use the Regis Mark V as a weapon. For the Regis Mark V, will destroy all. And now. You shall pay for your hubris.
  • Evil vs. Evil:
    • What happens at the climax of "Legion of Evil'' where the titular group turns against each other.
    • Also occurs in the 2-part episode "Glorfts & Broods". The Broods, another warmongering race from the future have a bitter intense rivalry with the Glorft. Both of their armies engage in battle for control over Earth. They put their differences aside in order to stop both Megas, only for Coop & Jenna combine their robots together and proceed to beat the ever-living tar out of both sides.
  • Explosive Leash: The Prison Warden from "Clockwork Megas" has his men insert a bomb into Megas to force Coop and the gang to help capture Prisoner 0. Coop later rips the bomb out and throws it to Prisoner 0 giving the warden the chance to blow up the evil bot.
  • Expy: There are quite a few. Here are the most notable ones.
    • Ultrabot Z & Uno are based off of Mega Man X & Zero from the Mega Man X Series. Their enemies are based off of various Mega Man villains, including Sigma, Dr. Weil, and Dr.Wily
    • Quazar is based off of Astro Boy.
    • One of Steel Kapone's henchmen, Slim, as a dead ringer for Jigen from Lupin III. The author even figured Richard Epcar would be a good voice for him too.
  • "Fantastic Voyage" Plot: The episode "Fat-tastic Voyage" has the Megas crew going into Goat to destroy some bacteria from the bad pizza he ate.
  • Fat and Proud: Like Coop, Jenna is very much proud of her size. One of the reasons why she enjoys being fat is because she enjoys the feeling of her body squishing up against Coop's when they hug or cuddle.
  • Happily Married: Coop & Jenna get married at the end of the series. 25 years later, they are still very much in love with each other and have a daughter who is best friends with Jamie & Racheal's daughter.
  • Happy Ending Override: You would think that trapping Evil Coop in between dimensions would have ended the carnage in his dimension. Nope! It only made things worse. Evil Coop had several provisions set on the off chance he would lose. His fortress creating an endless wave of drones, the Android Program, and to top it all off? The C-X100, an android that systematically destroyed all life in Evil Coop's dimension, with the exception of Alternate Jamie, who was the Sole Survivor.
  • Hated by All: The Legion of Evil loath Gorrath and Evil Coop, especially the latter who they see as an inferior version of Coop. "Channel Surfing" reveals that they hate Skalgar as well as they join with Coop in watching him suffer.
  • Heel–Face Turn:
    • In "Channel Surfing", Ender, Zarik and Skurg forsake being bad guys and help others.
    • In "Fat To The Future Part 3", RECR and Mecha Gear have their original programming restored by Janine Kanzuma.
    • Guyvan and the knights of the Halcyon world are more of a revolving Heel-Face variety. Ether he's trying to kill Coop to become the emperor, or he follows Coop's orders, albeit complaining about it the entire time. During the finale, he was aiding Coop in the final battle, but was not without snark.
    • While it could be Played for Laughs, basically every other villain that wasn't the Glorft becomes this at the end. They are even invited to Coop & Jenna's wedding!
Ender: Such a beautiful unification of pure evil! I think I might have something in my eye.
  • Kid Hero: Skippy after obtaining his own mech, Gigas.
  • Killer Rabbit: The Lurps are the size of midgets but they are vicious Galactic Conquerors. And like his Evil Doppelgänger, Coop learns the hard way that the real Lurps are far more deadly compared to their game counterparts.
  • Large Ham: Let's see. Where to begin? Aside from the existing characters that were already hammy, you bring a lot more ham to the table with characters like Aqualorx, King Mikey, Papa Lurp, Lunareon, Skurg, Jakor, Dr. Beal, Queen Nexia, Giganktu, The Saturosians, Zud, Steel Kapone, Loc, Raidor, Skarak, Boss Hawg, Nigor, Road Klown, Emperor Skale, Javoth, Dr.Weister, Kivo, Rainus, Ivan the Heartless, Floron, Cryos, and the Glorft Highmaster
  • Legion of Doom: Gorrath gathers all of the villains to take out Coop
  • Make-Out Kids: Any episode where Coop & Jenna are together, you'd be hard-pressed to not find them either kissing or making out. This is largely due to the fact that both enjoy the feeling of their fat rubbing up against each other.
  • Make Wrong What Once Went Right: Alpha travels back in time to kill Tommy before he can create Ultrabot Z and Uno.
  • NEET:
    • Averted with Coop. It is revealed in "Fat to the Future Part 1" that Coop does several side jobs. This includes auto repair, custom car body work, being a bouncer at club events, and catering.
    • Played straight with Jamie
  • Never Recycle Your Schemes: Subverted. Sometimes, these still work, just not the way you thought
    • In "Back To The Present", Jenna accidently activates her Megas's car horn, causing a horde of Florgbats to go after it. Megas 2 grabs the car horn and throws it at the Saving Grace Mark 2. However, the ship fired a shot at Megas 2's hand, causing it to drop the horn. Warlock then tells Jenna that that won't work again, as he was prepared for it. Unfortunately for him, the horn flew near a giant POP TV satellite, causing the Florgbats to knock it out of orbit. When the Saving Grace fires it's own Wave-Motion Gun, the satellite flies right into the cannon. Its explosion causes a chain reaction which destroys Warlock's ship.
    • Zig-Zagged in "Backseat Driver". After his army was defeated, Gorrath brings out a new version of Mecha-Megas. Kiva taunts him for using an old scheme. However he adds a 2nd Mecha-Megas into the mix, Then they perform a fusion dance and become Mecha-Megas supreme. Despite this, Kiva manages to get the upper hand while using Jenna's robot to fight until her body could no longer take the strain of controlling Megas 2 with her body. Gorrath was still defeated when Coop, who was still around Long Island with Jenna, accidently sets off the Orbital Planetary Ballistic Missiles while making out. One of the missiles heads right for his robot.
  • Power-Up Food: Mega-Slushies can act as a super-coolant for the Ceruleans that not only lasts for centuries, but can power-up their systems as well. This also works for Megas & Megas 2. Dropping a Mega-Slush into the fusion core puts Megas back to full power, and when you put a Mega-Slush with all 53 flavors into the fusion core, it increases all of Megas's capabilities 53 fold.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong:
    • Played With: When The Megas crew head to the Glorft home planet, Coop suggests they destroy Gorrath's ancestors before they become the fierce conquerers they are in the Future. Kiva states that while it may be tempting, it would radically alter the timeline, possibly making things worse.
Kiva: *To Coop* By altering the timeline, you could become skinny.
Coop: *Shudders* That is one future I want no part of.
    • Played straight with "Fat To The Future Part 2". After getting the time drive repaired. Coop travels back to the past just before his girlfriend's robot gets destroyed. He manages to stop the Glorft from destroying her robot. He then has his past self, make sure both Megas get onto the Karajor and activate the time drive. He succeeds, and once he returns to Kiva's future, Jenna & Racheal are waiting for them to help in the fight against the Glorft.
    • When Ultrabot Z helps Coop to recruit allies to fight against the Glorft, He offers to help change Alternate Jamie's past. While they couldn't stop Coop from turning evil, it did allow Alternate Jamie to go back to just after the end of "Rearview Mirror Mirror 2" and destroy Coop's fortress. This prevented the C-X100 from ever activating and wiping out nearly all life in Alternate Jamie's dimension. Although Alternate Jamie's universe is still a Crapsack World, at the very least there are more survivors, thus allowing them to hopefully one day rebuild society.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Coop & Jenna tend to be this when they are together. Any episode, when they are together, they often show Public Displays of Affection, and call each other pet names (Honey for Coop, Babe for Jenna.) Though no one's really bothered by it, Jamie often calls them out on it.
  • Spoiled Brat: King Mikey is a child that rules over his planet, Romos with an iron fist due to him controlling all of the giant gladiator-based robots. He was finally overthrown thanks to Coop and the gang.
  • Stable Time Loop: The episode "Paradox" revealed that Coop created the Glorft by sneezing into the Matrix Accelerator. Coop then sends them into outer space. 1000 years later, they evolve enough to become a warmongering race & invade Earth, causing Kiva to steal Megas from the Glorft. Kiva then sends Megas into the past, where Coop will eventually find it, thus starting the chain of events all over again.
  • The Only One: Subverted, in a sense
    • Both Coop & Jenna are able to pilot each other's Megas since the controls and layout are nearly identical to each other.
    • Coop & Jenna took turns taking control of Megas 2, while fighting Slyck, Masha, & Dingo in "Joyride"
    • Jenna used Coop's Megas to get back her robot in "When Kivo Comes Calling"
  • Trapped in TV Land: "Channel Surfing" has the Megas crew and Skalgar sucked into the television universe after a mishap with Coop's Universal Remote.
  • You No Take Candle: Parodied in "History Of The World Part 1". During the dawn of man segment, everyone would speak like cavemen. The only exception is Kiva, who still speaks like normal. Coop calls her out on it, and when Kiva states she refuses to speak that way, Coop hilariously breaks out of character and complains that she's running the gag. ALL IN A DREAM SEQUENCE No less.
Kiva: *To Coop* Coop, watch out! He's going to melt the armor! *Beat* What?
Coop: Me not understand you. You speak funny.
Kiva: You know full well what I said. You might be able to get me to dress up as a neanderthal in your stupid dream fantasy, but I absolutely refuse to speak broken English.
Coop: *Acting normal* Oh come on Kiva! You're breaking the immersion! If everyone else is talking like a caveman, then you gotta do it too!
