After dying at the end of her second life, Tanya reincarnates into a third life as the younger sister of Iruka Umino, going on to become the Jonin-sensei of Team 7.

The Pixie of the Hidden Leaf is a crossover fanfiction between The Saga of Tanya the Evil and Naruto by Dak1on. It can also be found here and here.

This fanfiction contains examples of:

  • A-Cup Angst: Oh so justifiably averted with Tanya. Despite being born as a girl in her second life, and again in her third, she is completely apathetic to her body image and sex appeal. Even when Naruto shapeshifts into a potentially older version of her, barely fazes Tanya.
  • The Ace: Tanya. She is the youngest person to ever reach the rank of Jonin, and proves throughout the story to be a master of ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu, a cunning tactician and planner, an excellent teacher, and an astute businesswoman.
  • Adaptational Badass: Team 7, due to Tanya being much more invested and focused on improving their skills as shinobi than Kakashi was in canon. Thanks to her intense training, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura are much more capable and formidable both as individual ninjas and as a team before the Chunin Exams. This is very much proven during their encounter with Orochimaru, where not only do they hold their own far better than they ever did in canon, they outright managed to kill him thanks to catching him off guard, and he would have been dead if he hadn't pulled a Grand Theft Me jutsu on the body of the Grass ninja he was possessing.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Subverted with Naruto. While he's still a Nice Guy, his initial rambunctious behavior (though not unjustified given the scornful isolation he suffered by the villagers for his Jinchūriki status) comes off as incredibly unfit to be a ninja due to the fic focusing more on the Grey-and-Gray Morality/Black-and-Gray Morality tone of the Naruto series. Also, his semi-lack of knowledge of the violent and bloodsoaked history of the past three Shinobi World Wars (nevermind the Warring States Period before that) all while loudly complaining about how he feels bored of doing D-rank missions leads him to be insensitive to the countless nameless deaths of the past shinobi, civilians, and families along with numerous villages and cities being wiped off the map. Once Tanya beats him in the head (sometimes literally) of that harsh reality, and slowly experiences it firsthand, Naruto starts shaping up and thinks much more deeply about his choices.
  • Aloof Big Brother: Inverted. Tanya is the aloof little sister to Iruka.
  • Always Second Best: Kurenai feels this way towards Tanya, giving her a severe inferiority complex when it comes to their overall relationship.
  • Animal Motifs: For Tanya, it's moths, her main summons. They can also symbolize rebirth as well, which fits someone who has been reincarnated twice now.
  • Armor-Piercing Question:
    • Tanya dishes these sorts of questions to Team 7 like candy, forcing them to really think more deeply about their decisions and goals.
    • Sakura gives this to Ino as the latter is still reeling from the brutal Curb-Stomp Battle that was dealt to her and insists that she does take the promise that they made to each other seriously.
Sakura: Then… what have you been doing?
  • Badass Adorable: Tanya is regarded as one of the strongest Jonin in the Hidden Leaf and looks quite adorable.
  • Badass Bookworm: Tanya has taken to spending a lot of time in the library since she was four years old, becoming well-versed in Konoha's politics and history as a result.
  • Badass Teacher: Tanya to Team 7, being very hands-on with their training in a similar fashion to how she trained the 203rd in her previous life. Sasuke believes under her tutelage that his goal of defeating Itachi will become more viable in a shorter space of time.
  • Beneath the Mask: From Naruto's point-of-view, Tanya's nothing more than Iruka's strict and crazy, albeit highly talented and skilled, younger sister. It's only when he hears Tanya mentioning the tragic fates of her first teammates (i.e. Izumi Uchiha and Nichien Hyuga) to an old acquaintance in a difficult-to-read tone that he re-evaluates his initial judgment of her.
  • Cassandra Truth: When Kakuzu tells Tanya he's going to wait for her bounty to go up more before taking her head, the girl honestly thinks he's joking even when Sasuke tries to warn her.
  • Chekhov's Gun: In Chapter 10, Tanya teaches both Team 7 and Team 8 about tandem Jutsu, using Sasuke and Sakura specifically to demonstrate how to do it. In Chapter 18, they use this to allow Sakura to use Orochimaru's Five Element Seal that Sasuke managed to copy in order prevent the Cursed Mark from spreading as far as it does in canon.
  • Child Prodigy: Tanya, natch. She graduated from the ninja academy at the age of five before going on to become one of the youngest shinobi and the youngest kunoichi to ever become Jonin, on top of breaking the world record for the youngest person ever to create an original ninjutsu. Even when taking into account she has two lifetimes worth of experience that's impressive.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Tanya very much encourages this mindset in her students when it comes to battle.
Tanya: Finesse is good, but sometimes you just need plain old brutality. So should you manage to get a hold of your opponent, forget all form, stances, and whatnot. Just do whatever you can to beat the crap out of them.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: As brutal and downright merciless she can be to her students, everything Tanya does is to prepare them both mentally and physically to be the best shinobi they can be and be able to survive as long as possible in a world full of dangers that will kill them at practically any moment in time.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Unlike canon, where Sakura and Ino were evenly matched, the former is much stronger as a shinobi than she was in canon at that point while Ino is at the same level here. The result is Sakura getting a crushingly easy win in just two hits.
  • D-Cup Distress: Hinata initially didn't her already developed breasts getting in the way of her Gentle Fist style, along with Naruto's crush on the petite Sakura.
  • Dark Fic: While the original Naruto series does have its darker moments, the fic emphasizes those darker moments due to the militaristic life of the Ninja World that are sometimes overlooked due to the shonen demographic.
  • Determinator: While all of Team 7 qualifies, Sakura, of all people, is the one who manages to stand out the most due to lacking as much natural potential as her teammates. One moment in particular that stands out is when she requests that Tanya increase the difficulty of her training, doubling down on it even after she's informed that men are known to break under it.
  • Disappointed in You: Sakura's reaction to Ino going down in just two hits in their fight during the Chunin Exams. Ino's internal narration notes that this hurts much worse than if Sakura was genuinely mocking her or being malicious about it.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Tanya really doesn't like the fact that, of all of the names to follow her from her previous life, it was "pixie". Of course, given her incredible talent, skill, experience, and high body count as a ninja, rarely anybody invokes her nickname to mock her unless as a battle taunt to gain the upper hand in battle.
  • Enlightened Self-Interest: The reason why Tanya puts so much effort in making her team the best ninja they can possibly be is so it reflects better on her and boosts her possibility of becoming Hokage.
  • Exact Words: During their "get the bells" test, Tanya tells Team 7 that if they pass they're the first ones to survive it being carried out by her. After they pass the test, Tanya reveals they're the first students she's ever taken on, making it technically true.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Tanya's past life as a soldier of the Empire really translates well into her career as a shinobi in various areas. By the time she becomes the sensei to the rookie Team 7, Tanya has already racked up a heavy kill count and is known to the Shinobi World as the "Pixie of the Hidden Leaf".
  • Friend in the Black Market: Kakuzu is this to Tanya when it comes to intel.
  • Genius Bruiser: Tanya is an excellent and deadly combatant in addition to being a master strategist and tactician. She makes sure that her students are just as capable as such, as a part of her training.
  • Handicapped Badass: Downplayed. At some point in the past as a Shinobi, one of Tanya's eyes was damaged from an unspecified event. While she could still see with the damaged eye, Tanya is very mildly nearsighted which causes her to tilt her head to get a better look. That being said, it still does very little to hamper her capabilities as the "Pixie of the Hidden Leaf".
  • Hated by All: Besides Hinata, none of the members of the Hyuga Clan are fond of Tanya due to her executing Nichien Hyuga, even if he was a member of the Branch Family.
  • Hero of Another Story: The "Tanya Hiden" chapters explore Tanya's life in the Naruto world before meeting and training Team 7.
  • The High Queen: The Moth Queen, who rules over the moths of the Great Dorimudasuto Tree.
  • Hyper-Awareness: Justified. One of the lessons that Tanya's brutality instills in Team 7 is the need and instincts to sense and react to any form of ambush, especially on the mission. By chapter 17, Sakura demonstrates the ability to casually dodge an incoming Kunai from behind on instinct while simultaneously working on her Chakra control.
  • Improbable Age: Tanya is about the same age as Team 7 and is a Jonin-level ninja.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Tanya still retains her love for shovels even in her career as a shinobi.
  • Master of All: Tanya is shown to be an expert at using ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu.
  • Mirror Character: Surprisingly enough, despite having almost opposite personalities and worldviews, Tanya and Naruto make for quite the interesting parallel: both are young, blue-eyed blondes who lost their parents during the Nine-Tailed Fox attack on the Hidden Leaf Village and both's current Goal in Life is to become Hokage.
  • No Sense of Humor: After talking with Kakuzu, Tanya at one point calls Sasuke out on not being able to recognize a joke when he hears one.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Played for Laughs. When interacting with the Moth Queen, Team 7 sees how Tanya takes a very submissive and respectful tone to her, a far cry from the Stern Teacher they come to respect and dread. While the sight of their sensei, prostrating herself and the Moth Queen calling her "little Tanya" is rather humorous (especially on Naruto's end), they all know better than to voice that out loud.
  • Off with His Head!: Sakura manages to do this to Zaku at the end of the fight with the Sound Ninja trio.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Tanya is a small girl but a powerful Jonin-level ninja.
  • Point of Divergence: Things stray off canon when Tanya becomes Team 7's sensei instead of Kakashi.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Kakuzu tells Tanya he's not going to collect the bounty on her head right now, as he believes as she continues to make a name for herself in the ninja world, the reward for her death by her enemies will increase so it'll make more financial sense to wait until it's big enough for him to bother trying.
  • A Real Man Is a Killer Justified, given the world that they live in. Before Tanya goes on to recommend them for the Chunin Exams, she makes them willingly kill tortured prisoners of T&I to make them confront and accept the reality of being a shinobi much earlier than they otherwise would be in order to make them better prepared for their future as shinobi.
Tanya: You must learn to kill. Not just in the heat of battle as a consequence of a too-strong attack, I'm talking about the conscious decision to end a life. Just like each of your blades and every jutsu in your arsenal, so is the act of killing itself a tool, one that must be utilized properly. You shouldn't grow to enjoy it. You don't even have to get used to it, even though it would be better. But either way, you must be able to recognize when it is necessary, and then do so without hesitation. That is my final lesson for you.
  • Red Baron: Tanya is known as "The Pixie of the Hidden Leaf" in the official bingo book.
  • The Resenter: Kurenai is secretly this to Tanya.
  • Sensei-chan: Averted. Despite Tanya's cute looks and being around the same age as Team 7, none of them treats her as a peer due to her more mature and strict personality.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Iruka and Tanya are nearly opposites in their personality and skillsets, leading to Naruto initially asking the former if the latter is really his younger sister.
  • Silly Rabbit, Cynicism Is for Losers!: After the situation with a Star Ninja and Tanya's response to how things ended that this is the world they live in, Naruto replies that he will be Hokage in order to make such this doesn't have to the kind of world they live in anymore.
Tanya: Change the world, huh? Many before you proclaimed that their goal. And their graves bore witness to their failure. If you shout that loudly, you should be prepared to back your words up.
Naruto: I will! If no one succeeded before, that just means that I have to be the first! I never go back on my word, believe it! Because that is my Nindo!
  • Summon Magic: Tanya has made a contract with the moths of the Great Dorimudasuto Tree. She got it by managing to climb the top of a gigantic tree some time ago.
  • Taught by Experience: Tanya can fight Sasuke well even with his Sharingan, mentioning she's fought a Uchiha before, and had one as a teammate. In addition to the Sharingan, Tanya also has experience and knowledge of the Byakugan and the Gentle Fist due to also having a Hyuga as a teammate and possibly fighting him when executing him for his lack of battle experience.
  • Talented, but Trained: Tanya was born an exceptionally powerful sensor, being able to sense the chakra of others since she was a baby. This, combined with her intense training regime, has allowed her to obtain the skills of a Jonin-level ninja by the time she turned 13-years old.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • None of Team 7 were initially looking forward to having Tanya as their leader and sensei, mainly due to her young age (Naruto and Sakura) and believing that she's simply an upstart who lacks the brutal reality of a shinobi (Sasuke). Cue the bell test and Tanya showcasing a taste of her true power and skill, Team 7 falls in line afterward.
    • As Team 7 grows tired of handling D-rank missions and collectively feels bored with it, Tanya decides to invoke a brutal training regiment on them that involves survival in the wilderness and being forced to dodge surprised attacks from her.
  • Training from Hell: Reconstructed. The point of Tanya's training is to push her students to their breaking point, never past it, knowing how much they can take without truly crossing the line. Thanks to this, Tanya's intense teaching kickstarts Team 7's Character Development far earlier in the story than canon, resulting in them not only becoming far more skilled in the process but growing and understanding what it means to be a shinobi far earlier in their career.
  • What Does She See in Him?: Tanya is very much baffled when she learns of Hinata's crush on Naruto.
  • Underestimating Badassery:
    • Before the bell test, neither Naruto nor Sasuke took Tanya as their sensei seriously, with the former thinking the whole situation as a joke while the latter saw her as an upstart who doesn't know what true determination is. By the time the test ends, she has put the fear of God into both of them and they do their best not to try and piss her off.
    • Just like in canon, the Sound Ninja trio is very smug and condescending towards Sakura while Naruto and Sasuke are knocked out. Unlike canon, however, Sakura has gotten training from Tanya, leading to her managing to hold her own far better in this timeline. She even managed to cut off Zaku's head at the end of their fight.
    • Tenten admits to doing so in her match against Shikamaru in the Chunin Exams before forfeiting.
  • Unknown Rival: This is Tanya and Kurenai's dynamic in the present day: while at first, Kurenai first saw her as a cute kouhai for her to spend time with, Tanya's natural talent has caused Kurenai to become The Resenter and aims to surpass her no matter what. Tanya herself doesn't know this and still thinks they are just very good friends.
  • War Is Hell: Tanya tells a disgruntled Naruto that he should be grateful that mostly D-rank missions are available due to this trope.
Tanya: Boring? You should be happy that you get D-ranks.
Naruto: Huh?! Why should I be happy about all these crappy duties?! I want to do something exciting!
Tanya: Are you even aware of how lucky we are to be born in this day and age? In the span of just a few decades, we went through three world wars! There was a time when the average Genin had a life expectancy of just a few days after graduating! That wasn't 'excitement', it was a meat grinder! A pointless waste of human resources! And it wasn't limited to shinobi, countless civilians died, families got torn apart, and entire cities just vanished from the map! But that doesn't happen today, do you know why? Because we are no longer at war. There are still tensions, but by and large, our country is at peace. Do you think that should change? Do you want to go back to those times, because you believe those hundreds of thousands of lives lost or destroyed are less important than your personal excitement?
    Naruto: N-no.
  • What a Senseless Waste of Human Life: Tanya tells Naruto that she sees war as this or rather "a pointless waste of human resources".
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Tanya is seen as his by her peers.
  • You Are Not Ready: When the Third Hokage presented a C-rank mission that would allow Team 7 to head to the Land of Waves (much to Naruto's excitement), Tanya tacitly denied the job and implored Hiruzen to give it to another team. When Naruto shows his disappointment loudly, Tanya states that he's not ready, with his loud attitude and lack of situational awareness proving it.
