Fanfic / Rainbow Rocket Ed-scendant

Go To

Rainbow Rocket Ed-scendant is an Ed, Edd n Eddy and Pokémon crossover, created by VerdeSaiyan. Mysterious creatures called Pokémon begin spilling over into the Eds' world as an inter-dimensional criminal army assumes control. Can the Eds, aided by an up and coming hotshot Trainer and a group of researchers overthrow this evil conglomerate and save all that they know and love? It's time to battle! The Fic can be read here Link.

Rainbow Rocket Ed-scendant provides examples of:

  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: Ed's Sneasal, Jackie and Kevin's Alolan Sandslash, Ciira
  • Abusive Parents: Ed's Misdreavous’ father, Spiritomb has no qualms about hurting her when she turns to the heroes side.
  • Adorably Precocious Child: Double D fits the bill much like in the show.
  • Adults Are Useless: Averted, since most of the adults from the Pokemon universe are helping the group, aside from the ones in Rainbow Rocket but they're anything but useless.
  • All Flyers Are Birds: Eddy usually forget's that his Archen is a raptor, not a bird, much to her annoyance.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Downplayed for the Eds as the fic goes on, since Kevin and Rolf are part of the main group, but Edd's Pichu and Eddy's Pikachu were like this for a pikachu colony due to their different colors.
  • Alternate Universe: There are three separate Pokemon worlds being used in this fic, the Main Game verse, Let’s Go world, Anime's universe.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: It's Pokemon so it's expected, but Eddy has two shiny pokemon, a pikchu and a Bunnanry, and Watt is an albino Pichu.
  • Amusing Injuries: Subverted twice with Rain naturally being worried about Ed accidentaly flattening Double D with a tree, and Ed getting scorched by Bro's Houndoom's Fire Blast. Neither moments are played for laughs.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: The Eds as in Canon, with chapter 29 pretty much showing that.
  • Animal Talk: The teams Pokemon do this occasionally, however their trainers aren't aware of what they're saying.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: While it's not often shown, as of chapter 20 Giovanni has taken out the UN, he pretty much controls the Eds’ world.
  • The Berserker: King being a primeape fits this naturally.
    • Watt becomes on when he succumbs to his nature as a Shadow Pokemon.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Watt seems like an adorable little Pichu, until you hurt his friends, then his Shadow Pokemon traits show up.
    • Polter as well, even the Kankers and Jackie are scared of her.
  • Big Brother Bully: Eddy's brother, Edmund, who has no qualms about his Pokemon attacking the group and hurting Eddy.
Eddy: Why! Why do you torture me—!?
Edmund: Like I said. For the fun of it.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In chapter 1 Blue saves the Eds and Grey from a Rainbow Rocket Grunt's 2 Xurkitre
    • Chapter 28 Dialga wipes the floor by one shoting Spiritomb
  • Big Little Brother: Cynder is the younger brother in his family, however he evolved before Ashes making him this.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Eddy's Bunnary, Jill, who only joined his team for the free food, and uses her cute looks to get her way. And if that fails, she'll beat those people up and or use charm on them.
  • Bittersweet Ending: In chapter 15 the group reunite with their Pokemon but unfortunately have to stay away from Peach Creek until they're strong enough to return and fight Rainbow Rocket.
  • Blood Knight: Kevin's Charizard, Buck is this, refusing to have any teammates help him fight against Ghetisis's Hydreigon and immediately wanting to fight Double D's Type: Null, Chroma.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Lusamine is currently part of Rainbow Rocket because of this, being hypnotized by Giovanni's Mewtwo. Also, Pokemon under the effects of the R virus with the exception of Watt.
  • Butt-Monkey: The Eds still get their fair share of slapstick, but it's toned down for them with the Kankers getting this treatment more often and the Team Rocket Trio as well.
  • Chick Magnet: Double D continues his streak with Rain seeming to have a crush on him.
  • Composite Character: Watt is based off a deleted albino Pichu concept of the spikey eared Pichu for Movie 14 and as of later chapters The partner Pikachu from Let’s Go.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Ed sleep eats again in chapter 3
    • In Chapter 15 Ed mentions his Edzilla costume.
    • In Chapter 22 Kevin mentions the bet from All Ed's are off.
    • Edmund mentions how he gets if he misses Matlock, much like how Eddy noted in the movie.
    • Double D discovers the files on Mewtwo in chapter 35 and the lines from Pokémon: The First Movie are repeated.
    • The Kankers battle agianst Salazzle is based on the raid for Golruk in the anime.
  • Costume Evolution: As of Chapter 26, the Eds have new outfits which they bought with winnings from a battle with a rich boy.
  • Crippling Over Specialization: Discussed in chapter 38, Double D notes that half of Ed's team (Rocky, Pluto and Triek) is highly susceptible to Water Types due to their Rock typing.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Chapter 33 has Eddy battle against his brother Edmund and Considering that Eddy is still a newbie trainer with none of his pokemon aside from King (Who he didn't have at the time) or Volty evolving once and Edmund being a top Grunt and earning an ultra beast from Giovanni due to his progress, it predictably goes horribly for Eddy, with Eddy only managing to defeat 2 of Edmund’s Pokemon. If his friends hadn’t arrived, he would've lost for sure.
  • Darker and Edgier: While this fic has it's lighthearted moments, there are chapters that show this, especially Chapter's 27 to 29.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 21 focuses entirely on Grey, and Chapter 25 barely had the Eds with the main plot being about Nazz, Johnny and Preston fighting a team aqua assault.
  • Determinator: Cynder's father Scorch wants to find his family so badly that he almost starved finding them.
  • The Ditz: Ed and his Tyrunt Triek, with the latter taking Ed's Magneton's joke literally.
  • Dumb Muscle: Ed of course.
  • Enemy Mine: After chapter 15, Kevin and Rolf are pretty much are part of the main team since they all are against Rainbow Rocket.
  • Friendly Enemy: Eddy and Kevin seem to develop this as the story goes on.
  • Hero of Another Story: Grey, despite being part of the group in the beginning he leaves early on to go on his own journey, which we see is going well in chapter 21.
    • Ash Ketchum is also shown to be on an adventure completely from the Eds’ own.
  • Humongous Mecha: The Kankers actually use one in Chapter 12 to capture a clan of Pikachu.
  • I Choose to Stay: Double D's Quilava Cynder is reunited with his family but decides to stay with Double D's team for now.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Eddy, as in canon, but said heart of gold is much more apparent in this story, with him defending two of his pokemon from oncoming attack, especially with defending King who has beaten him up before.
  • Kidanova: Eddy has flirted with a Nurse Joy and Rain. Wotter is this as well, with him trying to attract the Nurse Joy’s Audino and Jill (Much to her annoyance.)
  • King Mook: Sizzle, Lee's Totem Salzzle that she caught in chapter 37.
  • Kick Them While They Are Down: Edmund has pretty much defeated Eddy with his Mega Houndoom. Instead of leaving simply Eddy defeated and humiliated, he orders Houndoom to use Fire Blast on his younger sibling.
  • Large Ham: Captain Melonhead, Rolf and Ed of course. Rolf's Combusken also has picked up on his trainers hamminess as well.
  • Lightning Bruiser: King and Volty.
  • Made of Iron: Ed ends up getting scorched by Edmund's Houndoom only to simply faint and completely recover by the next day. Lampshaded when telling Nazz about them falling out of the Rainbow Rocket base, Double D notes that they've been through worse things than that and they probably could've survived.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Double D's Type: Null, Chroma.
  • Modified Clone: Two in this story Watt, an artificial Pichu and Beta Giovanni's Mewtwo
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Polter, despite being a Mimikyu, doesn't seem to mind Pikachu, seeing her costume as a tribute to it rather than mocking it.
  • Negated Moment of Awesome: Eddy and Wotter successfully use a Z move and one-shot an Ultra Beast, too bad Edmund has a Keystone.
  • Oh, Crap!: Double D has the perfect reaction to seeing Edmund's Houndoom having a megastone.
  • Olympus Mons: The Xernas Fawn the group befriends, and his father Dialga, and of course Giovanni's Mewtwo. Double D gains one with a Type: Null gifted to him.
  • Only Sane Man: Due to not living in the Cul-De-Sac, Rain fits this bill.
  • Papa Wolf: Dialga to the Xerneas fawn, don't try to hurt him. Spiritomb learned this the hard way.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: The Eds wear Grunt uniforms to infiltrate a Rainbow Rocket base, despite being younger than the average Grunt.
    • Chapter twenty has Double D dust off his old Walter Sobhack persona.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Many of the groups Pokemon fit this bill to a T.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Eddy's Buneary Jill due to being shiny.
  • The Psycho Rangers: Edmund's team is this to Eddy's for the most part with each member being some sort of counterpart to Eddy's.
  • Sixth Ranger: Rain, who joins the group after chapter 20.
  • Translator Buddy: Roto-Z, Double D's Rotom Dex and the team rocket Meowth serve this purpose.
    • Cynder's father Scorch is willing to risk starvation for his sons.
    • Volty and Fangweed are Kanto-native Pokemon.
    • Jill and Screamer are powerful normal types.
    • Pecky and Skystrike are flying fossil Pokemon.
    • King and Bubba are powerful fighting types.
    • Torchy and Fido are fire dog Pokemon.
  • Right-Hand Cat: Giovanni's Persain makes an appearance, but isn't owned by the Boss in the Eds world, coming from the Anime universe.
  • Secret Art: Due to a chip in his brain, Watt can use the partner Pikachu's moves. He has shown three out of the four moves that it can learn so far.
  • Spit Take: Nazz's Kirlia does this after Johnny's Steenee reveals the drink the Kirlia was drinking was her sweat.
  • The Stoic: Chroma is pretty much mute, not even having a personified voice.
  • Theme Naming: Double D usually names his mons something scientific (Ex: Gallieo the Noctowl, Watt the Pichu, Galapagos the Tirtoga.) and Eddy likes more simple names, (Ex: Wotter the Oshawatt, Pecky the Archen, and Volty the Pikachu.)
  • Talking Animal: Roto-Z and the Team Tocket Trio's Meowth obviously.
    • Grey's Meowstik, Mystik, can also talk using Telepathy.
  • Take That!: The Gym Leader Preston doesn't think fondly of Dynamaxing.
    • How does Double D wake a sleeping Ed up? Pretend a godzilla marathon is airing, with the 1998 flim in it, Ed wakes up immediately, yelling "Blasphemy!"
  • Underestimating Badassery: Due to being a Charizard, Buck forgets that he has a quad weakness to Rock Type moves when Ed's Tyrunt uses Ancient Power on him.
  • Walking Spoiler: Several in this story, just to name three Mewtwo, Edmund, and Dialga.
