Fanfic / Loud Ed Despair Island

Go To

Loud Ed Despair Island is a crossover Dark Fic written by Epar Lana (formerly captainswagswag). It can be found here. The fic is mostly the same story as the author's previous work Loud Ed Drama, which is a retelling of the first season of Total Drama with major characters from Ed, Edd n Eddy and The Loud House joining the normal contestants, but with a much darker tone and much higher stakes, inspired by Knifez's Despair Island.

In this version of the original fic, the Total Drama contestants, joined by The Loud House and Ed, Edd n Eddy characters as fellow competitors, are competing for their very lives, just like in Knifez's fanfic. Having been chosen to participate on a nightmarish new reality show, 45 teens and children find themselves forced into a Deadly Game, in which only one will win and survive, perhaps with five additional contestants, if they find Life Idols placed throughout Camp Wawanakwa.

The story is ongoing.

This work contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Heather is still the main antagonist of the story, just like in the original fic, but here she is more selfish and villainous, to the point of stealing Owen's Life Idol so she can use it later, leading to Owen's execution.
    • Chef in the original Despair Island was not happy about his role in the show, finding the premise morbid and only doing it because he has to. Here, he's just as happy to participate as Chris is.
    • Come episode 4, and Chris and Chef are confirmed to be pedophiles.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: This fic is what would happen if Loud Ed Drama took place in a darker setting like Despair Island.
  • Ascended Extra: Due to the change of tone, some of the contestants get further than in the original fic.
  • Big "NO!": Owen lets one out upon discovering his life idol missing.
  • Bludgeoned to Death: When Izzy is eliminated, she is suffocated, mutilated, and beaten to death as her form of execution. This happens to Ed as well in episode 5 when he is crushed inside a foldable chair by Cee.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: Luna covers Lucy's eyes during Izzy's elimination so she doesn't witness the bloody beatdown. Lana does the same to Lily and Lola during Justin's and Ed's eliminations.
  • Demoted to Extra: Due to the change of tone, some of the contestants are voted off earlier than in the original fic.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Chris directly orders Beth to be killed after she accidentally burns down the stage in episode 4.
  • Dude, Not Funny!:
    • How Izzy bites it first; after Ezekiel makes his sexist remarks, and Duncan says he'll teach him tomorrow, Izzy says "If, he lives to see tomorrow, that is!" and laughs. A repulsed Duncan leads the team into cutting her first.
    • Ed trips this trope in episodes 3 and 4, infuriating Cody and Noah both times. After the second incident, the duo agrees to an alliance intent on getting him out first.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As much of a Jerkass Kevin is towards the Eds, even he was surprised by Cody and Noah's Chernobyl levels of rage towards Ed.
  • Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: Chris, Chef, and the white guys never miss an opportunity to joke around and be creative when it comes to the contestants dying.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: So far, Bee and Dee have been revealed to have a baritone and bass voice respectively, and they are members of the white guys, who are the ones who perform the executions.
  • Government Conspiracy: Chris claims to have the permission of the Canadian government to host the show, even showing Double D a signed document that proves so. Unlike the fic it's based on, however, there are no indications if Chris has been tricked into believing that his show is legal or if this universe's version of the Canadian government did give Chris the authorization. In episode 4, he brings the document back out, and Duncan tries to call out the signature on the document as forged.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Eddy somehow enrolled all of the Peach Creek children into Total Drama, believing that if he and his friends win the game, they will be admired by everyone due to their bravery, ignoring the fact that only six people will survive the game.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In episode 3, Ed laughs at Justin's painful execution due to being an idiot as usual. While Cody and Noah are horrified, Kevin assures them that Ed doesn't even know what's happening around him most of the time. He does it again in episode 4, angering Cody and Noah to the point where they form an alliance to take him out. Ed still doesn't stop in episode 5, yelling at May without a second thought that she has cooties, upsetting her.
  • I Was Just Joking: After Ezekiel makes a sexist comment, Izzy proposes to vote him off even though Ezekiel apologizes for saying it. After the Screaming Gophers vote Izzy off that same night, she says this upon realizing that she is gonna die.
  • Man on Fire: Beth is thrown into the fire she created in episode 4's challenge as punishment for burning down the stage the staff built.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Justin gets mirrors smashed on his face repeatedly as his manner of execution.
  • No Indoor Voice: Cee's natural voice is a loud, pro wrestler inspired scream. The pro wrestler part turns out to have a lot of weight behind it when he dresses up and performs Ed's execution as a wrestler, complete with Chef acting as a referee.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: In episode 4, Beth is executed at the challenge site after she burns down the stage while performing.
  • Noodle Incident: According to Edd, Eddy was somehow involved in the show forcing the Peach Creek children to join the competition, but it isn't elaborated what Eddy exactly did to rope all the Peach Creek kids into the game.
  • Pet the Dog: Like in the original fic, Duncan gives Ezekiel advice on how to act in the real world after he nearly causes his own elimination due to his sexist commentaries and they strike up a friendship together, with Duncan even voting Izzy off after she tries to convince the others to eliminate Ezekiel so she can see someone die.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Cody and Noah, who have been getting progressively angrier at Ed since the end of episode 3, finally snap and physically fight Ed when they discover he found a life idol. They successfully pry the idol off of him and give it to an offering DJ.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: Some characters, like Ed, Izzy, and Owen, are eliminated much earlier than the original as they wouldn't fit with the dark tone of the story.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Teens and children, to be precise. Chris McLean has no problem with pitting all his forty five contestants against each other to compete for their very lives, even though one of them is a baby.
  • Your Head Asplode: Owen is executed by being garroted until his head explodes thanks to being unable to spare himself from elimination, thanks to Heather stealing his Life Idol.
