Fanfic / Parrot Verse

Go To

The Parrot-Verse is a series of Total Drama fan fictions written by agreenparrot. Set in various places in the Total Drama series, the fics have enjoyed immense popularity.

A huge staple of the series is its Grey-and-Gray Morality, where even the most insignificant-at-first-glance characters are given immense Character Development, and nearly nobody is completely good or evil.

The series has eight completed stories so far, with a ninth in progress:

  • Total Drama Refresh: The first story in the series. It contained 22 characters (18 OC's and 4 minor characters from the show). The main theme of the story is a throwback to the first season. The winner was Montana with Bobby as the runner-up.
  • Total Drama Stranded: The second story, and arguably the most-loved. 20 teenagers compete in a Survivor-like competition. This is the story where the Grey-and-Gray Morality started to really shine, where almost everyone gained development in some way. The winner was Calvin with Chelsea as the runner-up.
    • The story gained a sequel in Total Drama Strandarama, the fifth completed work. The premise was pretty much the same. For various reasons, the story is a Contested Sequel, though is still well-liked. The winner was Ferris with Florence as the runner-up.
  • Total Drama Switcheroo: The third story. It's main premise was that the 16 contestants were competing in two different sets of teams for either a reward or immunity, and they never knew which was going to happen. Unlike the other stories, Chris does not appear and the season is hosted by Blaineley and Chef Hatchet. The winner was Chance with Kitty as the runner-up.
    • The story eventually gained a sequel in Total Drama Switcheroni, the seventh completed work, which features a brand new cast of 20 teens. Like before it is hosted by Chef and Blaineley, and has real and virtual challenges, but also there is the addition of Switcheroni Island which allows team switching and hides the Blaineley Immunity Totem. The winner was Jacquie with Caleb as the runner-up.
  • Uber Drama Island: The fourth story. It contained 24 contestants competing in four teams of six, coached by former canon alumni Courtney, DJ, Trent and Lindsay. The winner was Nile with Roquette as the runner-up.
    • The story also has a sequel in the sixth completed work Uber Drama Action, where the premise is pretty much the same, except it is set at the Abandoned Film Studio rather than on an island. The canon coaches are Beth, Duncan, Eva and Justin. The winner was Jarred. with Labelle as the runner-up
    • The third in the Uber sub-series is called Uber Drama: Mountain of Madness, the eighth completed story. It has another 24 all new contestants. Like before, there are 4 teams of six managed by a veteran (in this case Staci, Jo, Max and Topher). This season differs from the other Uber seasons in that the campers are out in the wild, each in a different terrain. The winner was Mary-Anne with Duke as the runner up.
  • Total Drama Fantasy, the ninth story, is a drastically different take on the format from previous works. Set as an all star season with 30 returning players, some from every previous story, the campers this time are in a VR Fantasy world from day one and must complete objectives to avoid losing (and also not die from dangers). Last person standing wins the million.

Cancelled Stories

  • Total Drama Reaction was a sequel to Total Drama Refresh with a handful of those from the first season returning. It was a throwback to Total Drama Action with the same movie lot theme. It was cancelled 9 chapters due to the author simply losing interest in it.
  • Total Drama Return Of The Stars was a cancelled story. As the name indicates, it is an All-Stars season where various characters from Refresh, Stranded and Switcheroo return for a second chance at the million ... except for Montana, who wants to win another million. The theme of the season wass Emotional and crazy players versus strategic and cut-throat players. The author didn't like where it was headed after 7 chapters and scrapped it. The winner would have been Joseph with Montana as the runner-up.
  • Total Drama Exploration was one of the stories; the premise involved a cast of 18 contestants having no permanent camp and instead travelling from location to location like Nomads with Challenge Placement determining sleeping quarters for the night. After only 3 chapters were written it ended up officially cancelled in December 2014 due to the author no longer feeling he wanted to go back to it after so long. The winner would have been Mandy with Diego as the runner up.

Future stories are planned but so far little is known about them.

Tropes for this series include:

  • The Ace: Several, but Nile is the most standout.
  • Anti-Hero / Anti-Villain: Inevitable considering the tone of the series.
  • The Bad Guy Wins:
    • Calvin was a tool to say the least in Total Drama Stranded.
    • Mary-Anne was very spiteful, rude and hostile in Mountain of Madness
  • Big Bad: Pull up a chair, this will take a while.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Quite a few use this strategy. Keith is the most successful with it.
  • Byronic Hero: Quite a few, but Lionel is the Trope Codifier for the series.
  • Cerebus Rollercoaster: The mostly-lighthearted Refresh was followed by Darker and Edgier Stranded, which is in turn followed by the Lighter and Softer Switcheroo and Uber Island, and is followed by the darker Strandarama and Uber Action, followed by lighter Switcheroni.
  • Character Development: One of the biggest positives of the series.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Land
  • Crapsaccharine World: Everyone has a shot for the million and spend a summer making friends . . . as long as they get through all the backstabbing and deceit that the game requires.
  • Darker and Edgier: Both of the Stranded series.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Several.
  • Deconstruction: The entire concept of the series and its most noted archetypes are taken to their logical conclusion in various stories.
  • Four-Philosophy Ensemble: The final fours (and fives on occasion):
    • Refresh- Montana (Optimist), Bobby (Cynic), Nicole (Apathetic), Parry (Cynic turned Conflicted turned Realist)
    • Stranded- Calvin (Cynic), Chelsea (Conflicted), Keith (Apathetic), Ilona (Optimist)
    • Switcheroo- Chance (Conflicted), Kitty (Apathetic), Gene (Realist), Simone (Cynic), Charlie (Optimist)
    • Uber Island- Nile (Apathetic), Roquette (Cynic), Johnny (Conflicted), Linda (Optimist), Nathaniel (Realist)
    • Strandarama- Ferris (Realist), Florence (Optimist), Betty (Conflicted), Drew (Apathetic)
    • Uber Action- Jarred (Realist), La Belle (Apathetic), Yvonne (Cynic), Victor (Optimist), Rich (Conflicted turned Optimist)
    • Switcheroni- Jacquie (Apathetic), Caleb (Optimist turned Conflicted), Skye (Optimist, with shades of Apathetic), Sharidan (Realist)
    • Uber Mountain- Mary-Anne (Cynic), Duke (Realist), Haylor (Conflicted), Charlene (Apathetic), Reggie (Optimist)
  • Grey-and-Gray Morality: All of the works to some degree. Overall, the "heroes" are selfish, rude, cynical, hypocritical, or some combination of the above, while the villains are often Affably Evil Noble Demons whose sole crime is playing a cutthroat game. Often veers into Black-and-Gray Morality.
  • Growing Up Sucks: Ask any of the campers.
  • Jerkass: It's easier to count who isn't one.
  • Sole Survivor: Eight and counting.
  • Villain Protagonist: Kind of a given. Roquette from Uber Island fits the trope more than any in the series.
  • World of Snark
