Fanfic / Jonathan Joestar, The First JoJo

Go To

Honestly, finding out he has one hell of an extended bloodline when he wasn't even married yet should've shocked Jonathan into his grave, but he can't complain when he finds himself bonding with his new family and learning about the wonders of the new world as the race continues to stop Dio's evil plots once more.

Jonathan Joestar, The First JoJo is a retelling of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven that primarily focuses on Jonathan learning of his future legacy while attempting to stop Dio's plan to rule the universe.

Jonathan Joestar, The First JoJo contains examples of:

  • Accent Upon The Wrong Syllable: Jonathan's English accent causes him to pronounce Jotaro's name as "Joutaro".
  • Adaptational Badass: This time, Jonathan has become even stronger than in canon. He doesn't just kill DIO this time, but it's Heaven Ascension DIO, by far his strongest version.
  • Adaptation Expansion: And how!
    • Mr. President has a few more rooms, such as a kitchen and a bathroom.
    • There's generally a lot more focus on Jonathan and his relationship with his descendants.
    • The story continues after Heaven Ascension Dio is killed, with the new main plot being Jonathan travelling through various eras in order to fulfill the promises he made to his family.
  • Answer Cut: After Josuke nearly kills Joseph for abandoning his mother:
"Joseph." His voice was serious, and was so uncharacteristic of the usually polite and bright gentleman that it made the elder Joestar jump. Oh God, he really sounded like granny Erina when she was about to give him one of her long lectures, "What happened?"

"JOSEPH JOESTAR, HOW COULD YOU DO SUCH A THING?!" Jonathan's voice boomed, making the elder Joestar shrink back slightly.
  • Argument of Contradictions: In chapter 19, Polnareff has one with Jotaro after the latter decides to use his Stand to play a ring-tossing game.
  • Back from the Dead: Jonathan destroying Heaven Ascension Dio causes everyone he had killed to come back to life.
  • Bear Hug: Jonathan seems to be quite fond of giving these, as it happens multiple times throughout the story.
  • Beat the Curse Out of Him: The method for freeing people under Heaven Ascension Dio's control.
  • Big Bad: As in the game, Heaven Ascension Dio.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Younger Joseph, after he finds out that Giorno is Jonathan's son.
  • Big "OMG!": Older Joseph, as per usual.
  • Black Comedy Pet Death: Joseph mentions hot dogs while talking to Jonathan, who, in a misunderstanding, believes that they're made from actual dogs, which then causes him to be reminded of the gruesome way Danny had died.
  • Breather Episode: Chapter 19 is mostly this, focusing on interactions between Jonathan, Holly and the Crusaders.
  • Bridal Carry: Jonathan catches Jolyne in this manner when she first enters Mr. President's room.
  • Buffy Speak: Mista refers to White Album as a "suit thingy" at one point.
  • "Burly Detective" Syndrome:
  • Call-Back: When Jonathan first wakes up inside the turtle, he notes Younger Joseph's Strong Family Resemblance to him. When he is sent back to his original time, he says the exact same thing while looking at a photo of Joseph.
  • Call-Forward: In chapter 19, Stardust Crusaders-era Jotaro talks about wanting to become a marine biologist.
  • Caught in the Ripple: After defeating Heaven Ascension Dio, everyone is sent back to their original time. Nobody (except for Jotaro) remembers the journey at all, but looking at all the photos taken over the course of the adventure jogs their memories.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The photos taken over the course of the journey, causing anyone who had forgotten what had happened to remember after being sent back to their original times.
  • Comical Nap Drool: Done multiple times by Jonathan, much to his embarrassment.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The team's first encounter with Heaven Ascension Dio, until Jonathan steps in.
  • Curse Cut Short: As Jonathan heads into the Light Rift in chapter 8, Younger Joseph tells him to perform a Groin Attack on any enemy they fight, but Jonathan cuts him off right before he can say it.
  • Dead Person Conversation: Jonathan, after almost being killed by Heaven Ascension Dio, has a dream where he converses with George.
  • Escort Distraction: Giorno decides to go stargaze with Jonathan, so that the others can repair his house as a surprise.
  • Extremely Short Timespan: The events of chapters 1-18 all happened in one day.
  • Family of Choice: In chapter 15, Jonathan decides to accept Gappy as his family.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Jonathan, in spades. Examples include:
    • Mistakenly thinking that hot dogs are made from actual dogs.
    • Interpreting "cool" as its other definition, believing it means "chilled".
    • Not looking at Jolyne's outfit out of respect.
    • Assuming a photo is a painting because it's in color.
  • Fix Fic: Jonathan is more prominent in the story, and it features more interactions between characters.
  • Foreshadowing: Near the end of chapter 15, Jonathan mentions how he had hoped the anomalies had brought Danny and George back to life, which ends up happening in chapter 19.
  • Fountain of Youth: Jonathan, courtesy of a surprise attack from Alessi, is reverted to his 6-year-old self. It lasts for most of chapter 9 before it's finally reversed.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Jonathan chastises Jotaro for drinking beer at his age, only for Jotaro to remind him that he drank wine at an even younger age.
  • If Only You Knew: In chapter 3:
"I see! While it does make me happy Speedwagon stayed by her side, I am awfully curious about what occurs in the future, especially what happened that didn't allow me to be by Erina or by your side, but I suppose you cannot tell me, correct?"
Oh, if only you knew. Joseph thought bitterly, wanting nothing more than to run outside, find Dio, rip his head off and burn it. "Sorry. I can't, grandpa. But you'll know soon enough."
Jonathan muttered a very small "Oh", before falling into silence, eyes casted downwards as curiosity swirled in his endlessly blue eyes.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: In chapter 16, the main heroes have one with Jonathan, who is now being mind-controlled by Heaven Ascension Dio.
  • Invisible to Normals: Zigzagged. Jonathan (and presumably other Hamon users) are able to vaguely see Stands. How visible the Stand is depends on their size. For example: smaller Stands like the Sex Pistols are the most visible, while bigger Stands like Star Platinum are harder to make out.
  • Lemony Narrator:
(From chapter 7) If the word "Confused" came with a picture in the dictionary, it'd have Jonathan Joestar's face next to it.
(From chapter 13) A few hours ago, everything Valentine was saying would've sounded like someone drank one too many in a pub and went carolling down the street, but after fighting two Dios and finding out he and Johnny are named the same...
  • Mundane Utility:
    • Jonathan uses Hamon to dry Jotaro's hand after he spills some of his drink on it.
    • Jotaro and Josuke both use their Stands to hold cameras in order to take group photos.
    • In chapter 19, Jotaro decides to use Star Platinum while playing a ring-tossing game.
  • Mythology Gag: Jonathan's love of chocolate is a nod to a scene of the Phantom Blood manga.
  • Never the Selves Shall Meet: Exploited. While in Cairo, Jotaro and Jonathan find a pair of DIO's bracelets. During the final battle, they come into contact with Heaven Ascension Dio's own bracelets in order to stop him from using The World Over Heaven's ability.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Jonathan has one at the beginning of chapter 3, where he's impaled through the torso by Heaven Ascension Dio and left to bleed out.
  • Night of the Living Mooks: As in canon, Dio has an army of zombies and vampires at his disposal.
  • Noodle Incident: According to Lisa Lisa, Caesar and Joseph somehow nearly destroyed a kitchen while trying to make tea.
  • Off with His Head!: Jonathan does this to one of Diego's dinosaurs.
  • Oh, Crap!:
  • Original Flavour: The fic perfectly captures the tone of the original game.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: Jonathan mentions that he had dreams of the night Dio became a vampire.
  • Plagued by Nightmares: It's revealed that Jotaro repeatedly has extremely vivid dreams of his family and friends being killed.
  • Running Gag:
  • Say My Name: At the very end of Chapter 16, Jotaro yells Jonathan's name after the latter is punched through the torso by Heaven Ascension Dio.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Joseph and Caesar, upon first entering Mr. President's room.
Two thuds, along with two of the most un-manly screams Speedwagon had ever heard, followed by another two thuds broke the calmness.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When Gold Experience appears to try and get the Sex Pistols to stop bothering Jonathan, one of them says "He can't stop all of us!" in reference to the infamous Area 51 raid.
    • At one point, Joseph refers to Giorno as "Goldilocks".
  • Sweat Drop: Used a few times throughout the fic.
  • Talking to the Dead: The final scene of chapter 15 has Jonathan speaking to Danny's grave.
  • Tangled Family Tree: Jotaro lampshades this regarding his own relationship to Josuke and Giorno, the former due to being his uncle in spite of the age gap, and the latter due to the overall generational gap in being Jonathan's son.
  • Wintry Auroral Sky: Rocky Mountain Village.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Jonathan is disgusted once he realizes that Diego's dinosaur Mooks were actually humans, and apologizes for killing them.
  • You Are Not Alone: Said word-for-word by Jonathan in chapter 19.
  • You Remind Me of X: Jonathan mentions how Giorno reminds him of Dio. Later on in the story, he also thinks about how Holly reminds him of Erina.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: Heaven Ascension Dio does this to the remaining Joestars (sans Jotaro and Jonathan) in chapter 17.
