Fanfic / Batman Beyond Revisited

Go To

Batman Beyond Revisited is an Alternate Universe Batman Beyond Fan Fiction by TallMist. It was begun on May 31, 2015.

An elderly Bruce Wayne’s final battle with The Joker ends with him plunging both of them into a vat of acid to ensure that the latter doesn’t come back this time. Eighteen years later, a runaway named Jake Vance, who had spent half his life squatting in Wayne Manor, is approached by its inheritors, Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon, and takes upon himself the mantle of Batman.

Examples

  • Abusive Parents: Jake's mother, after his father dies, which culminates in him running away.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Ra's is more close to his comic counterpart when compared to the canon series version
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Narrowly averted in Chapter 25 when Dick Grayson says he wouldn't believe in a psychic kid that could only talk to Jake Vance if it weren't for all the allies and villains that he, Bruce, and Jake all have and had.
  • Ax-Crazy: The appropriately named OC, Chainsaw, a leader of a Jokerz gang that thrives on torture and murder to the point that the Joker himself would be disturbed.
  • Bad Boss: Chainsaw once brutally killed a henchman for backtalk, and seems to rule over his flunkies with fear.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Jake does not like being seen as inferior to Bruce or being called too brutal. He also hates being kept out of the loop and in the dark.
    • Dick does not like anyone insulting Bruce. He also hates when Barbara Gordon isn't treated with respect (As shown in Chapter 5, "Batman Inque".)
    • Payback/Jake's mother hates those that abuse and/or is negligent towards minors.
  • Dating Catwoman: Jake’s relationship with Inque became this for a short while, before she joined the team.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He goes up against demons, sadists, and other manners of dangerous men, and Jake still plays this role as long as he can.
  • Death by Adaptation: Bruce Wayne, at the start.
  • Fat Bastard: Chainsaw, though in an unusual example of this trope, his girth is pure muscle.
  • Fate Worse than Death: If Chainsaw doesn’t kill you for failing him, trying to quit, or insulting him, then you become his slave instead. Signified most of all by shock collars.
  • For the Evulz: A lot of what Chainsaw does seems to be purely sadistic pleasure.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: If the sadistic Chainsaw isn’t burned to death by his own lighter, he’s killed by his WMD exploding. An explosion caused by his own lighter.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Payback's only slightly justified motivation for abusing her son, Jake.
  • Jaw Drop: Jake’s reaction to Inque’s elegant dress.
  • Kill It with Fire:
    • The way that Jake defeats the demon Charlie Charlie.
    • Chainsaw later tries this with Inque, but it’s turned against him.
  • Kill It with Water: Or with ice; it’s the way that both Jake and Chainsaw first try to defeat Inque.
  • Meaningful Name: Purple and black shape-shifting Inque, sadistic boat enthusiast and swordsman Pirate, sadistic pistol girl Kira, sadistic murderer Chainsaw…
  • Mercy Kill: When Batman kills Tamara, it's for both the good of the city and for her, since she was dying already and there was no other option left.
  • Moment Killer: Jake’s first day off in years, on a date, and Payback interrupts it by crashing their limo and killing their driver.
  • Mooks: The Jokerz.
    • Specifically Pirate and Kira. They are Chainsaw's henchmen and are so dumb that they get taken down by Batman within a minute.
  • Noble Demon: Ra’s al Ghul, who while having no conscience when it comes to killing criminals regardless of the collateral damage, is a man of his word and an honorable fighter…which is how Jake manages to defeat him.
  • Offing the Offspring: Narrowly averted when Inque Knocks Payback (Jake's mother) off her feet just as Payback tries to kill Jake by striking his neck with her sword.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Poetic license at its finest; not only does Payback turn out to be a girl, she’s also Jake’s mother.
  • Sixth Ranger: Inque.
  • Taking You with Me: The cause of Bruce Wayne’s death in a successful effort to put an end to his nemesis’ Joker Immunity.
  • The Atoner: Payback.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Payback brutally attacks and sometimes kills people who are cruel, whether by neglect or abuse, towards the children they look after. Sure, they probably deserve every bit of it, but, unfortunately, it's still going too far.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The Dino is willing to torture a young psychic girl to help his goals, to the point where Jake, and possibly the girl herself, suspects that she's dying.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Chainsaw says this to Inque just before he tries to kill her for her betrayal. Why? Just so that Batman will believe that she betrayed him before he dies.
