    JB / M.C

JB / Main Character

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jb_93.jpg
"Groovy."

Voiced by: Dee Margret Turner

  • Boyish Short Hair: She wears her hair fairly short especially when compared to every other female character.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Both her eyes and hair have a light brown colour.
  • Has a Type: She loves hot guys and doesn’t really care about someone’s personality but she can voice preferences during the 'type game'.
  • In-Series Nickname: Alicia called her Jellybean when they were younger, because JB wanted a nickname and some neighbour boy suggested Jellybean which she thought was good enough.
  • It's All About Me: She is quite self-centred and thinks the world of herself, as expected form someone in the Jerk Squad, which is also, most likely, the main reason why she was hated by her previous schoolmates. However, what sets her apart from most other examples of this trope is the fact that she is self-aware about this and sees no reason to change.
JB: “Is just me not good enough for you? Haha, kidding, of course it is.”
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: Not as much as Everett but her first line in game is d**n.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: She has a very high energy attitude especially compared to most of the guys with only Shiloh and Lucas being able to match her enthusiasm.
  • The Nicknamer: She gives whoever her boyfriend is a nickname.
  • Noodle Incident: Her parents sole request is to not make everyone in the school hate her like last time.
  • Off to Boarding School: Subverted, as it was JB herself who wanted to go to boarding school to which her parents agreed, after six years of prodding, under the condition that she doesn’t make everyone at the school hate her… like what happened last time.
  • The Pollyanna: She is one the most optimistic characters and is praised by Lynn for her positive attitude about everything.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: She is the energetic girl to most of the guys in the game.
  • Same-Sex Triplets: She is the oldest of her two sisters who are triplets.
  • The Tease: She flirts with every guy she thinks is hot.

    Everett Gray

  • Hypocritical Humor: He complains to the MC that his work uniform makes him look like a waiter... And then wears a similar outfit to prom.
  • I Thought Everyone Could Do That: In Blood Droplets, the good ending to his route has him say that he thought "everyone felt no pain when being stabbed, and everyone else was just being a baby about it".
  • Momma's Boy: He calls his mother every day, calls her immediately when he becomes the MC's official boyfriend, and also calls her if he has a fight with Nate.
  • Purely Aesthetic Glasses: He is often seen with glasses however he wears them purely for fashionable reasons.
  • Quirky Ukulele: He taught himself how to play the ukulele.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: He wears some ridiculously mismatched outfits on dates outside the school, but claims that the MC just doesn't "understand" them because they're too "cool" for her.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: He swears a great deal more than the rest of the cast.

    Nate Lawson

  • Berserk Button: Pretty much anything can set him off, but the main things are anything to do with irresponsibility - up to and including lateness, low grades, not studying, not being prepared to take notes, not listening in a lecture, a teacher not asking why he was late... Etcetera. Also, Bae's general existence.
  • Big Man on Campus: He is very popular among the students and staff even if he isn’t well liked by most of them.
  • Comical Overreacting: Even when he claims he's "perfectly calm" he's usually shouting. It suddenly doesn't seem very comical when you get his event on the school trip, though...
  • Determinator: He is of the mind that he can accomplish pretty much anything if he really puts his mind to it. He's not wrong, either - he's a member of many different clubs, and apparently, if you go by one event, has discussions with faculty about the other faculty members' behavior.
  • Hates Being Touched: Unlike the other guys, he won't hug the MC at all until graduation.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: In an... Odd form of the trope, one of his random events has him be late to a casual meetup with the MC, and immediately try to break up with her because he's "clearly not put-together enough to handle a relationship".
  • It's Not You, It's Me: His response when asked why isn’t interested in becoming friends. JB calls it the weakest excuse ever.
  • The Killjoy: He is a student supervisor and is responsible for supervising some of the activities of school clubs and has a reputation for making things “Nate-Fun”, a word play on “not fun”.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: He wears some pretty ridiculous outfits on dates outside the school, but insists that he doesn't really care about the style anyway. Although for certain ones (such as his May-April outfit) he specifically says he did something (adding an extra layer) specifically to spite the MC.

    Shiloh Fields

"I'm Shiloh Fields. Nice to meet you!"

Voiced by: Brendan Blaber

For tropes relating to him in Our Life: Beginnings & Always, see here.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Does he genuinely care about/have a crush on the MC or is it another one of his lies? Who knows? Certainly not the developers.
  • Apologises a Lot: He often apologises but given his manipulative nature the sincerity of his apologies is questionable at best.
  • Consummate Liar: Pretty much everything he says is assumed to be a lie, both by the MC and other characters. There are a sparse few non-named characters who apparently believe what he says, but in his route he himself will admit it's only because of a specific tactic he employs on those people.
  • Really Gets Around: According to Nate at least, he's the most promiscuous student in their grade.
  • Self-Serving Memory: Part of his gaslighting and manipulation has him deny having any recollection of certain events until it would actually be useful for him to have that knowledge - in which case he suddenly remembers every detail.
  • Yandere: He is this more obviously in Blood Droplets, but can be considered this in the OG game too. He will continue flirting with the MC even if she gets a boyfriend who isn't him (although exactly how genuine said flirting is is up to interpretation) and one event implies he knows her schedule.

    Bae Pyoun

Bae Pyoun

"My name is Bae Pyoun, and... What were the questions again?"

Voiced by: Griffin Puatu

  • Backhanded Apology: “Sooo sooorry” is basically his catchphrase.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: It's frequently mentioned how often he has to stop and rest when he's walking, even just from the group's meeting room to the cafeteria or library. However he's also the only one, apparently, with the intellectual skills to rival Nate.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The guy can't go even one conversation without condescendingly putting down whoever he's talking to, bathing them in saccharine-sweet sarcasm so much they wish they'd never even met him.
  • Friend to All Children: He is loved by children and surprisingly loves them back; he even works at the day-care on weekends.
  • Insufferable Genius: Part of what makes him and Nate butt heads so often is how easily Bae manages to do everything with minimal effort.
  • The Nicknamer: He addresses most people by nicknames like Cookie, Starfish, Dumpling among others, however he doesn’t use a specific name for each individual person and just calls everyone by any one of the nicknames.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Not legitimately in effect outside of Blood Droplets, but it's frequently brought up in the OG game nonetheless - particularly by Everett and Nate, though the MC gets in on it too sometimes.

    Jeremy King

"...Jeremy King."

For tropes relating to him in Our Life: Beginnings & Always, see here.

  • Adults Are Useless: He sees his parents as incompetent when it comes to running the hobby store and does most of the handywork and finances himself, however they were able to keep their business running before he started doing so, which JB thinks means they aren’t as useless as Jeremy believes they are.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Even more deadpan of an example than Bae. He doesn't do it as often as Bae, but when you get Jeremy going, he can obliterate you with some well-aimed snark and even a Precision F-Strike.
  • The Eeyore: This is the reason he's in the Jerk Group to begin with - he's the most harmless out of all the guys aside from constantly bringing everyone down.
  • Hates Being Touched: Unlike the other guys, he won't hold the protagonist's hand until graduation. Justified as he has germaphobia.
  • Hates Their Parent: Downplayed. He dislikes his parents for trying to make him more similar to them, but they appear to genuinely care about him and try their best to make him happy even if they have to force him.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He is this with Pran, and if what he says in the meeting where they're revealed to be friends is any indication, he's genuinely hurt that Pran tried to distance himself when they enrolled to SSB.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He rarely smiles and is mostly seen either frowning or looking irritated.
  • Sleepyhead: This is a trope that becomes exaggerated in Blood Droplets, but is still brought up on occasion in the OG game. He tends to fall asleep in classes, and the MC, in one random event, can find him trying to take a nap in the courtyard. The latter event is explained, however, as he says he was up late helping his parents with a project - the former event never gets an explanation, though.
  • Sweet Tooth: He really likes sweets and is even will to interact with Everett, after stalking him, to get some, not enough to ask him for them, however.
  • Unwanted Glasses Plot: He needs glasses to see but usually puts in contact lenses because he doesn’t want to be judged for wearing them.

  • Abusive Parents: You only hear a whole lot about them on some of his dates (particularly the amusement park, where you learn that he had to sustain himself on popcorn for most of his childhood) but even Jeremy says that if anyone had learned about their 'parenting style' back then, they would have gotten arrested.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He's this with Jeremy, to the point where one of his events has him tell the MC that Jeremy is the only family of his she will ever meet, despite the fact that they're not related in any way.
  • Homeschooled Kids: He was home-schooled before he came to SSB.
  • It Amused Me: His reason for being late to the meetings that are specifically tailored to him.
  • The Quiet One: He does start talking a bit more as the game goes on, but not much. If you don't go on his route it's possible that you won't hear/read more than a few words from him outside of group meetings, and those can be disabled.
  • The Stoic: Interestingly, he's the only love interest whose blush sprite never gets used in-game. It's there, but it never gets used. That's how stoic he is.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Downplayed in the OG game but it's played (more) straight in Blood Droplets.
  • Yandere: While this is obviously exaggerated and in play in Blood Droplets, there is one moment in the OG game that implies it as well - during one of the group meetings, he apparently knows that the MC has no roommate, which she has never told him before. The MC notes it to be odd, but she apparently brushes it off, and the topic is never brought up again.

  • Childhood Friends: She was JB’s neighbour until they were ten, at which point she went to Saint Sara Belle boarding school.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her hair and eyes are the same shade of brown.
  • D-Cup Distress: The uniforms aren’t for someone with her proportions which annoys her.
  • In-Series Nickname: JB called her Button when they were younger, which was a nickname given to her by her parents.
  • Knowledge Broker: She can give JB information on how much her groupmates like her and seems to have a lot of knowledge about the school and its students, JB suspects that she is able to get her hands on more confidential stuff as well.
