- Not So Stoic: Usually stoic and stuffy, he's been reduced to hysterical laughter when Diego sang bad karaoke.
- Jack of All Trades: Joe has shown to be skilled in sculpting, skateboarding, playing guitar and virtual reality card games.
- Knight in Sour Armor: By far the most cynical of Diego's friends. but he's done heroic deeds before, most notably in episode "The Eradicator".
- Manly Tears: Gets tears in his eyes during the end of "The Nibblers" when it turns out the rogue teeth didn't mean harm but wanted a life of better dental hygiene.
- Oh, Crap!: Has one of these "this is gonna suck" faces in "Like A Dream" where he almost accidentally wishes that Diego and his friends would be trapped in his dream forever. Luckily, Larry pours sand in Ziggy's can to disrupt the magic.
- Real Men Wear Pink: In the episode "Karate Diego", he sleeps with a teddy bear named Blankie. In "The Big Screen Kiss", he wanted to watch a romance movie instead of the martial arts one.

- My Beloved Smother: A Running Gag is that his mother calls him constantly in the only episode he's in.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Like Ziggy, he's also a purple raccoon genie.
