The Polies

    Olie
Voiced by: Cole Caplan
The elder child of the Polie family and Zowie's older brother who is best friends with Billy Bevel.

  • Affectionate Nickname: He sometimes gets referred to as "Olie Olie" by Zowie.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: "1 Olie, 2 Olie, 3 Olie, 4" has him duplicating himself to try and make the duplicate do his homework for him. Unfortunately, the duplicate ends up doing the same thing, and it eventually gets to the point where there are 99 Olies in the house.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Should Zowie ever ask him how something he knows works, Olie will gladly show her.
  • Character Catchphrase: He tends to say "Neat-o!" whenever he gets the hang of something.
  • Cheerful Child: Olie is a young boy who is one of the most cheery and positive people you will ever run into.
  • Chewing the Scenery: In "Boxing Day", he and Polly notice that Billy has a lot of boxes around the place, and he in particular is terrified of the thought of Billy moving away. It turns out that Billy was just building Olie a hover-cube.
  • Cock Fight: In "Looove Bug", he and Billy both get touched by said Love Bug once Polly comes into the picture, and compete with each other for her affections for most of the episode.
  • Cool Big Bro: In spite of the occasional tendency to find her a 'pain in the gears', Olie loves Zowie with all his heart. He will always try to cheer her up whenever she's down and encourage her to keep going with something if she feels she can't do it.
  • Fanboy: Of Space Boy. He admires him so much that he frequently pretends to be him and has Spot be Space Dog.
  • Heroic BSoD: In "The Great Defender of Fun", he is absolutely dejected when he lets Gloomius Maximus get away with Zowie's birthday present. Zowie manages to snap him out of it by saying that she's happy as long as Olie's there with her.
  • Hiccup Hijinks: In "Hickety Ups", he manages to catch the hiccups, and while he's amused by them at first, he starts to get annoyed eventually and has to wait until the end of the episode for them to go away.
  • Invisibility: He gets turned invisible after being hit by his father's Magnotron in the episodes "Pretend Friend" and "Visibly Invisible". In the former, he takes advantage of this by pretending to be an imaginary friend for Zowie, who had no one to play with at the time.
  • Jerkass Ball: In "Mutiny on the Bouncy", after he has a fallout with Billy over who gets to be captain of the imaginary pirate ship they made, Olie spends a good chunk of the episode being rather cranky and snappy towards the rest of his family as they fill in as substitutes, berating them for doing things like giggling, checking on dinner and answering the telephone. He drops this after he and Billy make amends.
  • Kid Detective: He and Zowie become these in "House Detectives" and "Detective Polie's Cookie Caper", looking for a set of keys in the former and cookies in the latter.
  • LEGO Body Parts: In "Switcheroo", he switches bodies with Billy out of wanting to see what it would be like to be in someone else's shape.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: A less serious example than most, but he seems to be one to the entire house he lives in as well as his family. The episode "It's a Round-i-ful Life" has everyone express their feelings of how the house just can't be cheerful without Olie in the house.
  • Mind over Matter: "Magno-Men" has he and Billy press a button on Mr. Polie's Magnetron which gives them magnetic powers.
  • Nice Guy: Olie is a cheerful, friendly and good-hearted young robot.
  • The Noseless: He temporarily loses his nose in the episode "Follow Yer Nose", which gives him the ability to pick up the scent of his surroundings from afar.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: If he's not in good spirits, then it's quite a bit of a problem. See Heroic BSoD above to get the idea.
  • Polka-Dot Disease: "Polie Pox" has him catch an illness which is essentially this universe's equivalent of chickenpox. Said disease involves obtaining a series of different coloured spots on the body, and the more you scratch, the more spots appear.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni:
    • He's not an extreme Blue Oni, given that he's a Cheerful Child, but he's a lot calmer and more easygoing than the much more rambunctious and hyperactive Zowie.
    • He tends to be the Red to Billy's Blue, as he tends to have a lot more confidence in certain situations, while Billy, who has a dose of Heroic Self-Deprecation, frequently expresses doubts over whether he'll be any good at something.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Again, a word like "savvy" might be a bit of a stretch for him, but he's considerably more laid-back and gentle-natured than the Genki Girl Zowie.
  • Shapeshifter Baggage: He sometimes rolls himself into a ball whenever he travels.
  • Skyward Scream: In "It's a Round-i-ful Life", after starting to think everyone likes Zowie better, he looks up to the sky and yells, "WHAT ABOUT ME?!"
  • Stop Copying Me: He is assigned with the hard job of getting Zowie to have a nap in "Copy Cat-n-Mouse". There comes a point where she starts to copy everything he does and says, which he is initially annoyed by, but he soon decides to use this to an advantage in order to get her inside.

    Zowie
Voiced by: Kristen Bone
The younger child of the Polie family and Olie's younger sister.

  • Affectionate Nickname: She frequently gets called "Zo" by the rest of her family.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: As Olie puts it, she can sometimes be a "pain in the gears", but most of the time it's out of inquisitiveness. In "Copy Cat-n-Mouse", though, she intentionally acts uncooperative towards Olie so that she won't go inside and have a nap.
  • Baby See, Baby Do: She naively copies her father's actions in "Dingliedangliedoodle" and even repeats said word without knowing that it's an in-universe cuss word.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In "Polie Pox", she becomes jealous of Olie having ice cream in bed and vows to have the same thing happen to her. It does, but only through her getting sick as well.
  • Big Brother Worship: She adores Olie and frequently asks him about things she doesn't understand.
  • Character Catchphrase: In earlier episodes, she would often exclaim "Olie Olie Olie Olie!" whenever Olie came into the picture, perhaps signifying her great love for him.
  • Cheerful Child: She's probably the most cheerful child out of any one in the series. Perhaps justified, as she's not even five years old yet.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Or Cluser D-Bomb in this case, as she repeatedly says "dingliedangliedoodle" in song without knowing what it means.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: One episode has her try to look out for Binky so that he doesn't do anything silly. It unfortunately goes out of hand when Binky floods the bathroom.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Despite Zowie's rambunctious, people-oriented nature, she is prone to taking a while to warm up to new people as well.
    • In "Baby Binky", she initially acts rather dismissive towards Binky and refuses to let him go anywhere near what she does. They eventually become friends at the end after they both get covered in paint and Binky is suddenly able to say Zowie's name.
    • In "Blast from the Past", she's slightly scared of Great Aunt Polieanna at first due to her rather eccentric nature, but she warms up to her quickly when she realizes how much in common they have.
  • Dreadful Musician: Spot and the furniture certainly view her as this in "Zowie's Harmonica", down to the point where they take the harmonica away from her while her back is turned. They eventually regret doing that once they hear her crying for it and band together to return it to her, but that means having to put up with having to listen to her harmonica-playing again. Come the episode "All Wound Up", however, and she's improved significantly.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When she appears for the first time in "Little Sister, Big Bother", she lets out an ecstatic cry of "OLIE! OLIE, OLIE, OLIE!" and jumps on Olie while he's brushing his teeth.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: After a number of squabbles and disagreements with him, she finally warms up to Binky after they both get covered in paint - they laugh at each other, she kisses him on the cheek, and he says her name for the first time.
  • Genki Girl: Zowie is very bubbly and energetic, outshining her brother in how upbeat she is.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Zowie is a sweet and cheerful child who loves playing with dolls, having tea parties, and playing princesses, but she also likes watching Space Boy with her big brother Olie and plays pirate and other games with him and Billy occasionally.
  • Hulk Speak: She talks in third person and uses "Me" instead of "I", as well as speaking in sentences such as "What we do?" and "Me love you, Baby Starry!". Considering her young age and how she'd still be learning how to use grammar, it's justified.
  • Innocent Swearing: Her saying "dingliedangliedoodle" repeatedly without knowing how strong the word is.
  • Kid Detective: She, Olie and Spot are assigned to look for a missing set of keys in "House Detectives" and a cookie "Detective Polie's Cookie Caper".
  • Masculine Lines, Feminine Curves: With Binky. She's a spherical being while he's a cuboid.
  • My Nayme Is: Her name is pronounced the same way as "Zoey".
  • Nice Girl: Zowie is an unfailingly affectionate, sweet and perky girl.
  • Polka-Dot Disease: The end of "Polie Pox" ends with her catching the same disease as Olie.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni:
    • She's a Cheerful Child like her brother, but definitely a great deal more rambunctious than him, making her the Red to Olie's Blue.
    • She could be seen as the Blue to Binky's Red, as he's even younger than her and doesn't know better.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Both she and her brother are rather energetic, but she's undoubtedly the more energetic one; it takes quite a bit longer for her enthusiasm to play out than with Olie.
  • Stop Copying Me: In "Copy Cat-n-Mouse" she begins to copy everything Olie says and does in order to avoid napping. Olie promptly decides to use this to persuade her to have her nap.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: She plays the Serious Child to her father's Wacky Parent in "Beddy Day For Daddy" — she is placed in charge of looking after him while he is sick and frequently reprimands him for trying to sneak off and watch a TV programme he's missing out on.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Despite her young age, Zowie sometimes proves to be capable of handling situations in quite a mature way. One particular example is in "The Great Defender of Fun", when after Gloomius Maximus steals her birthday present from Olie — Olie is distraught that he let that happen, but she comforts him by telling him that she doesn't need a present and is happy as long as he is there with her.

    Mr. Percy Polie
Voiced by: Adrian Truss
The patriarch of the Polie family and an inventor whose creations sometimes end up doing more harm than good.

  • Demoted to Extra: He is absent in some of the episodes and has a minor role in a few episodes.

    Mrs. Polina Polie
Voiced by: Catherine Disher
The matriarch of the Polie family and the house homemaker.

  • Demoted to Extra: In "The Great Defender of Fun", where she has brief appearances throughout the movie. Her only main scene is when she rescues Zowie and Pappy with Percy.
  • Girly Girl: She is beautiful and upbeat.
  • Out of Focus: She is a supporting character in "The Great Defender of Fun".

    Spot
Voiced by: Robert Smith
The Polies' pet dog.

  • Ascended Extra: He is a recurring character in the series, but he is a major character in "The Great Defender of Fun".
  • Big Friendly Dog: Inverted with his size, but he's still a very affectionate and loyal dog to his owners. Played straight on more than one occasion — in "Gone Dog", he gets zapped by the Magnotron and grows a rather large size, and in "Diary Daze", Olie writes a fictional story about him where he's a giant dog who's covered in spots.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Sometimes does some things which are not what people tell him to do, particularly in "Through Thick and Thin" when Olie is trying to get him to be Space Dog in his "Space Boy and Space Dog" game.
  • Demoted to Extra: Spot becomes a minor character in "The Baby Bot Chase". He has a lot of rare cameo appearances throughout the movie. It's very easy to forget he is in this movie.
  • Dogs Are Dumb: Averted most of the time as he does prove to be capable of doing what he has been assigned to do, but he sometimes has his less intelligent moments. See the above trope to get the idea.
  • Female Feline, Male Mutt: The Male Mutt to Dicey's Female Feline.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: When Spot first meets Dicey, he really struggles to get along with her due to the latter's constant poor treatment of him. By the end of the episode, they form something of a Vitriolic Best Buds relationship.
  • Heroic BSoD: A big chunk of the episode "Top Dog Fish" has him becoming worried that the fish that Olie brought home might replace him as the favourite house pet. He tries desperately to get an equal amount of attention from Olie and Zowie, but repeatedly to no avail, and so he eventually gives up and decides to leave the house along with all of his things. Olie and Zowie have a My God, What Have I Done? moment soon after he disappears and learn An Aesop about taking care of pets from their mother, and when they find him at the end of the episode, they reaffirm that he will always be their favourite and share a group hug.
  • Invisibility: In "Visibly Invisible", he and Olie get zapped by the Magnotron and are invisible for a good chunk of the episode.
  • Meaningful Name: He is called Spot because when the Polies first got him, he left a spot on the carpet.
  • Suddenly Voiced: In two episodes, there are brief instances where he speaks normally - in "Silly Willy Day", he says "Rubber baby buggy bumpers" in Olie's voice, and at the end of "Rolie Polie Pop Tops" he says "excuse me" after burping.
  • Temporarily a Villain: In "Zowie's Harmonica", he, along with the house's furniture and appliances, becomes increasingly sick of having to listen to Zowie's poor harmonica playing, which eventually leads to them agreeing to let him get rid of it. The appliances have a Heel Realization soon afterwards and band together in order to get the harmonica back to Zowie, which Spot is strongly against.
  • Took a Level in Badass: The episode "Spot that Hero" has Spot feeling sad that he hasn't done anything heroic enough for him to earn attention from others after hearing about what Polly's dog Fifi has done. He finally gets attention and praise after saving Binky from being run over on the road, as well as a few licks from Fifi.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Spot has the ability to roll himself into a ball and can bounce around without suffering any noticeable injuries.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: A one-sided variation with Dicey after they start getting along better. Although Dicey still tends to tease him on occasion, Spot doesn't seem to mind that and still treats her like a friend.

    Pappy Polie
Voiced by: Len Carlson
Olie and Zowie's grandfather, and the father of Percy and Gizmo. He lives on a farm and frequently has to deal with his teeth escaping.

    Uncle Gizmo
Voiced by: Adrian Truss
Percy Polie's older brother and the uncle of Olie and Zowie.

  • Ascended Extra:
    • He is a cameo character in the first season, debuting in "Our Two Dads" in a major role, and a minor role in Season 2, only appearing in both "A Little Souped Coup-y" and "Beach Blanket Gizmo" as the main protagonist. Starting the third season, he becomes a recurring character.
    • He becomes a major character in "The Great Defender of Fun".
  • Butt-Monkey: In "The Baby Bot Chase" where he gets the float finished in time for the parade.
  • Demoted to Extra: Despite his name appearing in the opening credits of The Baby Bot Chase, he has a few brief appearances.

    Great Aunt Polieanna
Voiced by: Tedde Moore
Pappy's sister and Olie and Zowie's great aunt who is very aptly named.

    Grandma Lulu
Voiced by: N/A
Pappy's deceased wife and Olie and Zowie's grandmother who died before the events of the series.

The Bevels

    Billy
Voiced by: Joshua Tucci
The elder child of the Bevel family who is best friends with Olie.

  • Demoted to Extra: After being the Deuteragonist of "The Great Defender of Fun", he has a few brief cameo appearances in "The Baby Bot Chase".
  • Out of Focus: He has a few small speaking lines in "The Baby Bot Chase".

    Binky
Voiced by: Sunday Muse
Billy's baby brother and the younger child of the Bevel family.

  • Baby's First Words: He is able to say Zowie's name at the end of "Baby Binky", his debut episode, no less.
  • Baby See, Baby Do: At the end of "Dingliedangliedoodle", much like how Zowie imitated Mr. Polie saying the in-universe cuss word, he imitates Mr. Bevel's utterance of the word after the latter falls over while trying to box a punching bag.
  • Baby Talk: Being easily the youngest character in the main cast, gibberish is really the only way he can communicate. In the episode "Baby Talk", Olie and Billy decide that his gibberish is a language in its own right, and by the end, both are self-proclaimed experts on it.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Is very much lost in a world of his own with little sense of what happens around him.
  • Fearless Fool: In "Spot That Hero", he walks onto the street which is currently very busy, and it's up to Spot to take a level in badass and earn everyone's approval by saving him from being run over.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Binky has to do a lot to earn Zowie's approval of him in his debut episode, not helped by the fact that he keeps doing things like knocking over her block tower and disrupting her book-reading. After both end up being covered in paint after a fight, both just laugh it off, Zowie kisses him on the cheek, and Binky says her name for the first time, much to her delight.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In "Baby Binky", he tugs on Zowie's antenna and frequently gets in the way of anything she has been playing with, but he was unaware of that and also too young to be at fault for it.
  • Masculine Lines, Feminine Curves: With Zowie. He's a cuboid while she's a spherical being.
  • Oblivious Younger Sibling: See Cloudcuckoolander to get the idea. He is the infant sibling of Billy, and due to having largely underdeveloped intelligence, he doesn't pay much attention to what happens in the world around him.
  • Perpetual Smiler: A simple-minded, inquisitive smile is the most commonly seen expression on his face.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red Oni to Billy's Blue Oni, being the energetic and unsuspecting younger sibling in contrast to Billy's more mature and wary demeanour. He's also the Red to Zowie's Blue, with her being a Cloudcuckoolander's Minder towards him on occasions.

    Mr. Baxter Bevel
Voiced by: Philip Williams
Billy and Binky's father.

    Mrs. Bonita Jaquita Bevel
Billy and Binky's mother.

    Dicey
Voiced by: Richard Binsley
The Bevels' pet cat.

  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Mostly one sided on Spot's end, but she has a friendly rivalry with Spot and still teases him from time to time. Her first appearance has her act rocky and rough with Spot. But she has since mellowed out.

Recurring Characters

    Polly Pi
Voiced by: Rebecca Brenner
A girl who becomes friends with Olie and Billy.

    Space Boy and Space Dog
Voiced by: Kyle Fairlie (Space Boy) and Robert Norman Smith (Space Dog)
Olie and Billy's favorite TV heroes.
  • Palette Swap: They are basically blue and silver versions of Olie and Spot.

    Screwy
Voiced by: Noah Reid
An anthropomorphic lug nut who initially bullies Olie and the others, but befriends them later on.
  • Vocal Evolution: Starting in season 6, his voice gets noticeably deeper. This is possibly due to his voice actor hitting puberty.

    Mrs. Ethel Triangle
Voiced by: Jennifer Gould
Olie's school teacher.

Big Jean and Little Jean Little Green
Two aliens from the Little Green Planet whom Olie and his dad meet after their ship crash-landed on Planet Polie. Little Jean eventually forms a firm friendship with Olie.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Little Jean gets called Junior by almost everyone.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Invasion of the Ticklers" has an interesting variation on the trope in that it's not necessarily them who have the central focus, but rather their pets, who have made their way to the Polie planet and can't get themselves to go back home with their owners. However, their inclusion in the episode still gives us a bit of a look into the Little Greens' background.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In their introductory episode, they have a setting on their belly buttons which can make them speak in either their native Little Green Planet language or a really strange, jumbled form of English. These are noticeably not present in any of their appearances after that.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Olie and Little Jean develop a rather solid friendship despite not seeing each other very often and being of a completely different species.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Their pets, the ticklers, are said to be the things that they ultimately can't be happy without.
  • Recurring Extra: They have a smaller role than many of the other recurring characters, yet are still considered key supporting players.
  • This Is My Name on Foreign: Their names are apparently "Squeega" and "Squeegee" in the Little Green Planet language.
  • Verbal Tic: More when they're communicating in English, but they tend to say anything beginning with "squee" whenever they trail off in mid-sentence.
  • Vocal Evolution: Little Jean's voice is notably deeper in "The Baby Bot Chase" than in some of his other appearances, probably because his voice actor was experiencing puberty at the time.
  • You No Take Candle: Their way of speaking English consists of odd jumbled sentences like "right tools don't I have", "she's looking as a beauty" and "home we must go", and they say "dokey-okey" instad of "okey-dokey".

    Wheelie
Voiced by: Al Mukadam
A teenager who becomes friends with Olie and the others after babysitting Olie and Zowie.

    Chunk Squarey
Voiced by: Andrew Craig
A pop singer who hails from the planet Cubey like the Bevels.

    Klanky Klaus
Voiced by: Howard Jerome (Seasons 2-5), John Neville (Season 6)
The universe's equivalent of Santa Claus.

    Gloomius Maximus
Voiced by: James Woods (The Great Defender of Fun), Paul Haddad (as Gloomius' singing voice in The Great Defender of Fun (uncredited) and as his speaking voice in all other appearances)
A space pirate who initially spends his days trying to get rid of all the fun everyone is having. He eventually pulls a Heel–Face Turn after he learns what it's like to have fun and be happy.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: It's because of Zowie's compassion that he eventually manages to pull off his Heel–Face Turn.
  • Big Bad: Of The Great Defender of Fun.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Instead of a Hook Hand like any other pirate would have, he instead has a rapier-like sword attached to his hand. He rarely uses it in comabt though.
  • Evil Is Petty: His motivation for becoming a ruthless space pirate. To be specific, the “If I can’t have a birthday party, then no one else should” variation.
  • Heel–Face Turn: With a little help from Zowie at the end of "The Great Defender of Fun". After learning he never had a party of his own and never was invited to one, she decides to invite him after feeling bad for him. The poor guy winds up crying with joy as he accepts her offer, so much so it gets his happy gear working again.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: A mechanical space pirate who's number one goal is the erasure of anything and everything he considers as fun.
  • Seadog Peg Leg: has one bellow his leg, albeit it could be more a "steel" leg due to him being a robot.
  • Space Pirate

    The Baddies
Gloomius's loyal minions.
