Voiced By: Rhona Rees (EN); Kahoko Taki (JP)
Date of Birth: August 5
Age: 36
Team: Attackers
Squad: Redhammer

A farm girl and Army mechanic from Central Queensland, Gridlock throws Trax Stingers onto the ground, caltrop mats that quickly expand to cover a much wider area and restrict movement, slowing and damaging Defenders who step on them.

For tropes applicable to her counterpart in Rainbow Six Extraction, see Rainbow Six Extraction REACT.
  • Armor Is Useless: Notably, Gridlock is a 3-Armor operator despite wearing not much at all beyond a simple chest rig, with both of her arms fully exposed to boot. Just to put it into perspective, Mozzie wears more padding than Gridlock does as part of his biking suit, and he is one tier below her in terms of armor rating. This implies that much of Gridlock's ability to withstand damage comes from her own physical toughness than any actual bulletproof vest she may wear.
  • Agony of the Feet: Her Trax Stingers are basically patches of caltrops big enough to immobilize vehicles. Defenders who step onto a deployed Trax will take 10 damage per second, grunt in pain, and be slowed down and make metal shuffling sounds as if they're wading through barbed wire. Caveira wading onto a Trax will also be immediately taken out of Silent Step. Notably, this damage can put Defenders into DBNO and even kill, if they are unfortunate enough to tread on a Trax when at critical health.
  • Badass Driver: According to her bio, she can pull-off daring, albeit reckless, maneuvers behind the wheel. Essentially in terms of skill, Gridlock is to four-wheeled vehicles as Mozzie is to motorbikes.
  • Bash Brothers: She and Mozzie have known each other since high school and they’ve practically been inseparable since joining the SASR, having taken part in many missions together. In both of their in-game profiles, Harry noted that he’s interested to see if pitting them against each other will affect their friendship in any way.
  • Brawn Hilda: Gridlock is a very large and brawny woman with a muscular physique that can make most men green with envy, which lets her shrug off more non-headshot damage than many of her fellow Attackers when considering her 3-armor rating. Her main weapon of choice is equally big, being a box magazine-fed variation of Capitão's M249. Rather hilariously, Gridlock's alternative loadout options are tiny by comparison.
  • Farm Girl: Born and raised in a farm. As is usual for this trope, she misses the old farm life as much as she complains about it.
  • Genius Bruiser: Don’t let her brawny looks fool you; Gridlock is a mechanical engineer by trade who also knows a great deal about robotics and vehicles. In addition, the Trax Stingers were her idea and, with some help from Rainbow’s engineers, she helped create the man-portable version she uses in-game.
"Gotta keep the mind in working order. It is the sexiest muscle, after all."
  • Heroes Love Dogs: She owns a working dog named Izzy.
  • The Leader: Subverted. Harry notes that while Gridlock’s personality and skills should land her a higher spot in the SASR chain of command, she refuses to take a more active leadership role for some reason.
  • Meaningful Name: Her gadget allows her to slow down or completely block off traffic in an area, like a ‘gridlock’.
  • Mighty Glacier: As the first DLC Heavy Armor Attacker, Gridlock is one of the slowest characters in the game but can take a bit more punishment than the rest.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Despite being an Attacker, Gridlock's expertise is trap-laying and area-denial in a manner Defenders would.
  • Morton's Fork: Take damage and make noise shuffling slowly through the Trax, or waste even more time making noise shooting them out.
  • No-Sell: The Trax are simply too big to get zapped by Jager's ADS, although Wamai's Mag-NETs can intercept them.
  • Not the Intended Use: Not initially, anyhow. The original design of what later became the Trax Stingers was developed by Gridlock as a means to halt speeding vehicles, and was meant to be deployed from the rear of her truck in case of emergencies. It wasn't until she was scouted by Rainbow that the Trax concept was redesigned for anti-personnel purposes.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Mozzie, whom she met while in highschool, and formed a very interesting dynamic with while in SASR service. Their relationship is Like Brother and Sister, and Mozzie is Happily Married.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Gridlock is the Blue to Mozzie’s Red, as shown in their teaser trailer. Compared to the latter, she is a lot more stoic and laid-back, casually enjoying a beer while waiting for the signal to get into action.
    Mozzie: It's, uh... quiet here?
    Gridlock: Mmhmm.
    *beat*
Mozzie: (laughing) It's like really, really, really...quiet...
    Gridlock: Was quiet.
  • Small Girl, Big Gun: Inverted. Gridlock is a huge, musclebound woman, such that all of her guns look tiny in her hands by comparison. Even the M249, normally large enough to qualify as a BFG in the hands of lankier operators, looks like a moderate assault rifle when carried by hernote .
  • Shout-Out: This interview with one of the developers revealed that Gridlock's middle name 'Fairous' is an anagram for Furiosa.
  • Stout Strength: While she's not as lithe or slender as other female Operators, Gridlock is strong enough to lift things they'll struggle with on their own, such as a frigging truck engine.
  • Trap Master: Her Trax Stingers are essentially a better version of the Defenders’ Barbed Wires. They come in massive canisters that automatically unspool themselves when thrown, spitting out multiple expanding Stingers along a wide radius. While they do small amounts of damage over time, the Stingers slow down their victims and can even kill them. They also make noise when stepped on or destroyed, giving Attackers a heads-up on would-be roamers and flankers.
  • Wrench Wench: As if the tools on her chest rig and wrists aren’t a giveaway, she is also seen tinkering with Mozzie’s motorbike in Operation Burnt Horizon’s menu screen.

Voiced By: Martin Copping (EN); Tomoya Yano (JP)
Date of Birth: February 15
Age: 35
Team: Defenders
Squad: Ghosteyes

A brash motorcyclist and off-road recon expert, Mozzie uses a Pest Launcher to fire and deploy miniature robots that ambush and override Attacker drones that drive too close to them, allowing him to drive them and adding them to the Defenders' camera feeds.
  • Artistic License – Military: Mozzie's P10 RONI isn't technically an SMG, as it is in actuality a pistol modified for automatic fire and fitted inside a carbine kitnote .
    • His "Commando 9" or Colt 9mm SMG is incorrectly desingated in-game as an Assault Rifle rather than a Submachine Gun.
  • Attention Whore: Downplayed; Mozzie does not necessarily beg for attention all the time, but he is a braggart once all eyes are on him. As Harry puts it, he is "a showman at heart" who’s especially proud of his biking skills.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Mozzie is not just a speed freak, he also thinks fast on his feet. It is said he can analyze any situation, then formulate and execute a plan when others are still getting their bearings.
  • Badass Biker: He served in an infantry battalion that uses motorcycles and ATVs for reconnaissance. His bio page depicts him riding across a desert, with one hand on the handlebars and the other wielding his shotgun.
  • Bash Brothers: As said in Gridlock’s entry, she and Mozzie have known each other for a long time and are rarely seen apart after they joined the military. Their claim to fame was the 2015 Esperance bushfires, where they were both commended for leading a daring rescue mission into the blaze to save some trapped firefighters. His Elite Skin also references this event, with Mozzie donning a bushwhacker hat and firefighter trousers alongside his military gear.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: What Mozzie lacks in brawn he makes up with unbridled enthusiasm to get into the thick of things, be it saving rescuers from a raging bushfire or chasing down a convoy hijacked by terrorists.
  • Brats with Slingshots: The Pest launcher is a fancy slingshot and Mozzie has the behavior to back it up.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Arguably one of the best examples in the roster so far, considering he fits in more as a stunt driver or extreme sportsman than a special forces soldier. In fact, he was only allowed to join the SASR provided that “he refrained from talking back”.
  • Cool Helmet: Wears a military-style biker helmet and a pair of aviators, both of which go with his off-road daredevil persona. The helmet’s on his Operator icon too.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He might come across as a reckless goofball, but Mozzie also knows a great deal about drones. Even Dokkaebi herself is impressed by his programming skills, judging from her analysis of his Pest Launcher.
  • Finger Gun: His Operator portrait has him doing this pose. His wife seems to have taken after him too.
  • Hack Your Enemy: This is the whole point of Mozzie’s ‘Pests’. He can launch them directly at an Attacker’s drone (including Twitch’s Shock Drones) or deploy them as traps that automatically latch onto any drone that ventures close. Either method will grant Mozzie his very own mobile cameras, which other Defenders can also use to spot with through their observation toolsnote .
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: If Mozzie captures Twitch's Shock Drone, he can utilize it against its former owner. Similarly, his core gimmick is based around hijacking Attacker drones to allow his team to spy on them instead of the other way around.
  • Happily Married: To a woman named Lozza, who's heavily-pregnant with twins when Mozzie was recruited into Rainbow. One of his conditions for joining the Team was for Six/"Harry" to support his wife and kids in case anything happens to him.
  • Interface Spoiler: Inactive hacked drones are visually indistinguishable from the Attackers' regular drones. IQ can detect them on her scanner, Thatcher's EMP disables them, and a quick cycle through the drones can determine which aren't on Attackers' side, but the quickest, easiest way to check is to just yellow-ping the drone in question. If the ping is blue, it's friendly. If it's red, shoot it.
  • Meaningful Name: ‘Mozzie’ is Australian slang for ‘mosquito’, a fitting name for a hyperactive, reckless, and annoying individual to deal with.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: As the middle child in his family, Mozzie received much less attention from his parents. It's one of the reasons why he became an adrenaline junkie, as it seemed to be the only thing that got them to notice him.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Mozzie's core gimmick revolves around droning, which up until his release was a tactic exclusively available to Attackers, and remains so even after that. This is facilitated by his Pests, which can capture any Attacker drone they latch onto and adding them to his team's camera list, though only Mozzie himself can actually drive them around, making him the only Defender who can drone.
  • The Napoleon: At 1.62m (5’4’’) tall, Mozzie is the shortest male Operator by far. This gives him quite an inferiority complex, which (Harry believes) he hides by being a loudmouth and a showoff. Suffice to say, it’s a bad idea to joke about his height.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Gridlock, whom he met in highschool. In their partnership, she's his Blue Oni and Cloudcuckoolander's Minder.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Mozzie is the Red to Gridlock's Blue, as wonderfully demonstrated in the Operation Burnt Horizon teaser trailer. Whereas Gridlock quietly sips beer while waiting their orders, Mozzie is restless and impatient, and he almost literally jumps into action the moment they’re told to move out.
Radio: Attention. Convoy entering the sector in five minutes.
Mozzie: Yes! Hahaha! (runs to his motorbike and rides off) Woooo!
    Gridlock: *sighs* (pumps her shotgun)
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Harry also notes that Mozzie is quite vulgar.
  • Shout-Out: His real name is most certainly a nod to Max Rockatansky and Jim Goose.
  • Skill Gate Characters: Higher level players are less likely to drive their drones recklessly and into the waiting arms of Mozzie. They are more likely to use Mozzie less as an intel gatherer and more as drone denial, as Attackers get a big red blinking warning if they are near a Pest and know well enough to steer clear.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: Do you want to terrorize Attackers with Twitch’s Shock Drones? Bring Mozzie along!
  • Thrill Seeker: In his spare time, Mozzie is fond of dune-racing, skydiving, off-road biking, skydiving with an off-road bike and more. There’s never a dull and safe moment with him around.

Age: [REDACTED]

Squad: Ghosteyes

A NATO covert agent from Denmark whose existence is known only by a few, Nøkk's HEL Presence Reduction temporarily renders her invisible to camera feeds and reduces the noise of her footsteps when not sprinting.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Her HEL Presence Reduction gadget combines the partial invisibility to cameras and other such electronic surveillance devices of Vigil's ERC-7, and the muffled footsteps of Caveira's Silent Step.
  • Cold Sniper: Nøkk is actually a highly-skilled sniper, even though her loadout in the game does not reflect that, and she has an icy demeanor to match.
  • Creepy Good: Nøkk works for the benevolent Team Rainbow, but that doesn't make her any less frightening.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Nøkk has a uniform that resembles a ghost, a past shrouded in secrecy, and a gadget that helps hide her presence from opponents. Nonetheless, her bio states that she "harnesses a spirit of loyalty" and "has managed to hold onto who she is at her core". She is also very devoted to her mother and her country, and she respects her father enough to protect his reputation, despite him being absent for much of her life.
  • The Faceless: Unlike Vigil, Nøkk's default headwear completely hides her facial features, including her eyes. The head model under her veil is even a black void. However, this piece of concept art gives us an idea what she looks like underneath all her gear.
  • Firing One-Handed: She will shoot her weapon this way whenever the HEL device is active. Aiming down sights will cause her to rest the gun on her forearm. Becomes more than a bit impressive when she does this with the D-50 of all things.
  • HEL Is That Noise: While they can't see her, Defenders can hear a subtle wobbling noise in their cameras when Nøkk's cloak is affecting them, a clue that she is nearby.
  • Helmets Are Hardly Heroic: Averted. Her face is completely masked by both a helmet and a mesh veil draped on her head. This is a real-world Danish military uniform, but for the maritime Frømandskorpset special forces rather than the land-based Jægerkorpset.
  • Heroic Bastard: Heavily-implied in her bio. Nøkk was raised solely by her mother for a while and her father's family didn't even know she existed until much later. The family seems to be very prominent in Denmark, since Nøkk agreed to keep her identity a secret for their sake, knowing it will cause a huge scandal if it ever got out to the public.note
  • Hour of Power: Her HEL Presence Reduction works on the same mechanics as Caveira and Vigil while combining their stealth features. It is active for a few seconds before needing to recharge, and can be activated again with partial charge and has infinite uses.
  • Jump Scare: Her teaser trailer ends with her de-cloaking in front of the camera as a Scare Chord plays.
  • Meaningful Name: A nøkk is a spirit of Scandinavian folklore that would lure people to drown in bodies of water. While the country of origin is the most obvious characteristic she shares with her namesake, Nøkk wears the uniform of the Frømandskorpset; Denmark's special forces for maritime operations.
    • Her special gadget also refers to Hel, the Norse Goddess of the Dead and ruler of the Underworld, playing to her ghostly and deadly playstyle and the aura that surrounds her.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: Her character’s general theme; her appearance is closer to that of a ghost than a special forces soldier, and her gadget is based around hiding her location from opponents. You’d be forgiven for thinking that she's a Dead by Daylight character rather than a member of Team Rainbow.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Unlike every other Operator, Nøkk's real name is only listed as 'REDACTED', as are most details on her profile. note
  • Ominous Visual Glitch: If Nøkk sprints, wades through barbed wire, fires her weapon, takes damage, or goes through an animation while her HEL device is active, she will show up on cameras as visual noise. The player playing as Nøkk will see yellow static on their screen when this happens.
  • The Spook: Outside of Team Rainbow and NATO's higher-ups, nobody knows that Nøkk even exists. Notably, she's the first Operator to have details such as her name redacted from her official profile. "Official records" state she's currently serving time in prison, but this is nothing more than a cover to help her operate under the radar.
  • Stealth Expert: As a Caveira/Vigil hybrid, Nøkk's special ability muffles her footsteps and makes her invisible to cameras for a short time. The effect glitches if she takes any major action in general (i.e. shooting, sprinting, etc.). Mozzie's hijacked drones and Echo's Yokai drones can also sense her presence whenever she's near, indicated by a 'glitching' effect on their HUDs similar to Vigil.
  • Tricked-Out Gloves: The HEL device is mounted on a glove that glows when active.

Voiced By: Mark Deklin (EN); Takaya Kuroda (JP)
Date of Birth: March 18
Age: 48
Team: Defenders
Squad: Ghosteyes

A charming Secret Service veteran and former Marine with a career of 30 years and counting, Warden wears a pair of Glance Smart Glasses that allow him to see through smokescreens when standing still and renders him completely immune to blinding flash effects for a short time before recharging.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Warden's gadget is a manually-activated combination of Glaz's thermal-feedback scope and Ying's flash-resistant goggles. Like the former, his smart glasses also require him to reduce his movement to a minimum if he wants to get the clearest sight picture through smoke.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: In the current meta, Warden is one of the least-picked operators on the Defender side because of the situational nature of his kit.
    • Being able to No-Sell flashbangs and smoke grenades is a cool ability to have as a Defender, but a similar effect can be achieved for the whole team by bringing a grenade catcher. Even then, blocking line-of-sight to the flash or turning around also avoids its effects. Smoke grenades can similarly be circumvented with bulletproof cameras. Needing to stand still to get the most out of the glasses also needlessly exposes Warden.
    • In the event that the Attackers actually bothered with smoking their entry at all, they would occasionally be having Glaz camped behind the smokescreen with his thermal sight on. Even if you can see him, there's nothing in Warden's kit that will let you outgun him that way.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Flashbang grenades and other such devices debilitate their targets by causing an audio-visual Sensory Overload that results in temporary blindness and deafness. Despite being an external eyewear, the Glance is somehow able to stimulate ATP production in the retina that not only calms overloaded nerves, but also removes balance disorientation.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Unlike most other Operators, Warden elects to wear a suit to operations, likely a nod to his roots in the Secret Service. His operator icon is also this Nice Suit.
  • The Casanova: A notorious womanizer, Warden boasts of having a slew of affairs and dalliances that rivals that of some American presidents. Apparently, his Southern charm is a big hit with the ladies.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: Well glasses, but this trope counts nonetheless. His Glance Smart Glasses allow him to see through smokescreens and resist the blinding effects of flashbangs.
  • Gadget Watches: His Glance smart glasses are controlled by his wristwatch.
  • Hawaiian-Shirted Tourist: Warden's Elite Skin has him wearing a stereotypical aloha shirt, sunglasses, and white hat, in addition to his combat gear.
  • Highly Specific Counterplay: Due to the Glance being designed to protect against flash grenades, Warden is technically the hard counter to Ying, whose special ability literally is just overwhelming the Defenders with clusters of small flashes. He's also reasonably strong against Blitz, whose flash shield cannot be mitigated by simply looking away from it, so the Glance's on-demand blindness removal actually shines in such an encounter. Warden is also effective against Attackers trying to plant in smoke.
  • Hour of Power: The Glance runs off a twenty second timer and then needs to recharge, similar to Caveira, Vigil, and Nokk's abilities.
  • Mighty Glacier: When he was a Heavy Armor Operator, Warden worked best as an anchor for Defenders, repelling entry gadgets like flashbangs and smoke grenades with his Smart Glasses.
  • No-Sell: One of the two main effects of the Glance Smart Glasses is complete protection against blinding flash effects, like Ying's Candelas blowing up in his face or Blitz rushing him with a Flash Shield. If he's already blinded by them, activating Glance will immediately remove the flash effect, though the auditory disorientation will remain as usual.
    • The main other effect of the Glance Smart Glasses is to filter out and see through any lingering, line-of-sight blocking effects like smokescreens and Sens's R.O.U. Projector's walls of light, effectively turning such plays against the Attackers since he can see them but they cannot (except Glaz's thermal scope).
  • Old Soldier: Not quite "old" yet but he's getting there. Warden is pushing 50 by the time of Siege, but with 30 years in the Secret Service and the Marines under his belt, he's still on the field, and a capable match for his younger comrades.
  • Porn Stache: He has a nicely-trimmed one befitting his reputation as The Casanova.
  • Semper Fi: He served three tours in the USMC and retired as a Master Sergeant.
  • Skill Gate Characters: Inverted, where Warden is more commonly seen at higher tiers in Ranked, but even then he's still a relative rarity compared to the usual "safe" picks. Making effective use of his Glance and anchor-centric loadout requires at least a decent level of coordination with his fellow Defenders to allow Warden to safely play in positions facing the push, and in such a case he's actually rather okay at rotating around the site to defend it, especially if the Attackers try to rush with flashes and smokes. However, he is often passed up in favor other Defenders that bring more utility like Maestro.
  • Southern-Fried Private: Warden hails from Kentucky, and he is a boisterous Operator with a taste for women and has little respect for protocol. This trope is ultimately deconstructed however, because his behavior has earned him quite a lot of enemies in the White House, and only his transfer to Team Rainbow has saved him from any serious repercussions.
  • Tuxedo and Martini: With his suit, womanizing and fancy gadgets (including a watch for his Smart Glasses), Warden is essentially Team Rainbow's very own James Bond. This was even lampshaded in the Operation Phantom Sight launch trailer, which was titled "Clutch Royale".

"Forget who you are, and nothing else matters. You'll fight for anyone, and never know why."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/r6s_operators_badge_amaru.png
Voiced By: Presciliana Esparolini (EN)
Date of Birth: May 6
Age: 48
Team: Attackers
Squad: Redhammer

A freelance archaeologist and former Peruvian police officer, Amaru's Garra Hook allows her to grapple and quickly scale up to windows, rooftops, and unreinforced hatches from below.
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: Though she worked as a police officer for a few years, Amaru is first and foremost an archaeologist who happened to be well-versed in dealing with antiques traffickers and cartels in the Peruvian jungles. Compared to every other Operator in the game, who are all ex-Spec Ops, law enforcement, or private security, Amaru is technically a civilian when she joined Rainbow.
  • Badass Normal: Relative to the other operators. Amaru is the only member of Rainbow who isn't sponsored by a national police or military force, instead being accredited to a paramilitary group of archaeologists combating artifact trafficking. Notably, said organization has no real-world counterpart, as Amaru founded it herself.
  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: Her default headgear features a red one, which makes her look awfully similar to Pvt. Vasquez.
  • Cool Aunt: Goyo regards her in this light, even though the two of them are not related by blood, as she taught him how to be a good man amidst the vicious cartel and gang violence that plagued his neighborhood when he was young.
  • Dynamic Entry: It even has a name and and infamy in-universe, the "Garra Kick". Any poor Defender standing right next to a window Amaru grapples into will be killed, which also grants a "Garra Kick" bonus worth 20 points. The only exception to this is Clash, who will harmlessly bounce Amaru off of her CCE for a good shocking.
  • Grappling-Hook Pistol: Granted, it's not really a pistol, but the Garra Hook is nonetheless a man-portable device that lets Amaru reach high vantage points by launching herself from a distance. The gadget itself only has a limited number of uses, each of which requiring a short time to charge up.
  • Meaningful Name: An amaru is a dragon-esque creature in Inca mythology that can traverse the boundaries between the Earth and the spiritual realms. It is usually depicted as a serpent with bird wings and talons, the latter of which form the basis for Amaru’s Operator icon.
  • Nominal Hero: Downplayed. While Amaru is clearly on the side of good, she is primarily interested in preserving her country’s heritage and not much else. In fact, she only joined Rainbow because Goyo asked her to; without his prodding, she would have been content to stay in the jungles of Peru and work alongside the APCA.
  • No-Sell: Deterrent gadgets like Melusi's Banshees or Ela's Grzmot mines will have no effect on Amaru while she's in the middle of her hooking animation. She will be debilitated after landing, however.
  • Super Window Jump: While hatches will instantly be broken when the hook attaches, window barricades will not. The only warning Defenders will get is the sound of the hook attaching, glass breaking, and Amaru reeling in, which are rather quiet. It becomes a fast-paced guessing game of which window she's going to come busting in from.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Amaru keeps with her an old compass that originally belonged to her great grandfather, an explorer who is believed to have been part of Percy Fawcett's ill-fated expedition in Brazil. Her grandmother calls the compass a "good luck charm", even though its previous owner was never found again.

    Goyo

"A person is never more honest than when they think they are alone."

Voiced by: Victor Andres Turgeon-Trelles (EN)
Date of Birth: July 20
Age: 31
Team: Defenders
Squad: Redhammer

A member of Mexico's Fuerzas Especiales who grew up being incredibly wary of the dangerous influences surrounding his country, Goyo can deploy Volcán Canisters, armored fuel bombs with an exposed opening on top and behind. If destroyed, it explodes and leaves behind a lethal carpet of fire that denies entry over a wide area for a period of time.
  • Anti-Frustration Features:
    • Putting Volcáns next to the hostage is its own punishment. However, once the attackers lay their hands on the hostage and presumably get the idea to move them next to a Volcán and blow it up, fault will fall onto them instead.
    • Goyo will not be at fault if Attackers kill a Defender by destroying a Volcán.
    • In its first incarnation, standing on a Volcán Shield will cause it to collapse but not detonate.
  • Booby Trap: A prime utility of the Volcán Shield, and later the Volcán Canister. The former was a deployable shield common to Siege, except that it would explode upon being destroyed or shot at from behind. Its appearance is completely unchanged from the front, furthering its use as an ambush gadget. Its reworked incarnation in Year 7 plays this trope even straighter, as the Volcán Canister instead becomes a gas can that can be attached to just about any flat surface to provide Goyo and his team a trap or means of area denial.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's bad enough that he grew up in a rough neighborhood, Goyo also lost his father and sister after their home was bombed. This left him quite troubled as a kid, and he would've gone to a dark path if it weren't for Amaru and his mother.
  • Exploding Barrels: The canister itself is a bright red gas can in a bulletproof shell.
  • Friend or Foe?: The Volcán can kill anyone, including Goyo himself. This became quite an issue upon release that a patch was quickly introduced to make hostages immune to his gadget, in order to prevent griefing.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: He has a nasty-looking surgical scar across his right temple, which resulted from the bomb that killed his dad and sister.
  • Hair-Trigger Explosive: The Volcán Shield/Canister could be detonated by shooting the incendiary canister or meleeing it if you're particularly suicidal. In its previous form, destroying the shield with explosives (including Entry Denial Devices) or Sledge's hammer would also cause the canister to detonate.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: He is good friends with Amaru, who is 17 years his senior and whom he often refers to as his tia, or aunt.
  • Meaningful Name: He shares his nickname with Popocatépetl, an active volcano in Mexico that is associated with Saint Gregorynote . His Operator icon, i.e. a stylized volcano, and his Volcán Shield are references to this.
  • Not the Intended Use: Depending on the specific map geometry, Volcán Canisters can be placed to block drone holes.
  • Schmuck Bait:
    • Prior to its rework into the Volcán Canister, Goyo's old Volcán Shield was Schmuck Bait incarnate. For one, it looked exactly the same as any other garden-variety deployable shield. This means that Attackers who were too gung-ho about dismantling every single one they saw would be in for a nasty surprise when they tried to destroy one and it instantly set its surroundings (and possibly they themselves) on fire instead. For two, those who were decidedly more careful about their approach may still see one as a perfectly fine vaultable surface if they didn't manage to drone it out beforehand, try to mantle it, only to have it suddenly explode out from under their feet and set them on fire while at it.
    • After the rework, the Volcán Canister can be placed on barricades and Castle panels to turn them into these, where the can will detonate if the fortification it's planted on is destroyed by an Attacker. This makes them deviously useful against aggressive Attackers, since the barricades would look otherwise ordinary from the outside, but will suddenly burst into flames when struck or vaulted through and dealing a lot of damage. When placed in the upper position along a barricade, a triggered Volcán Canister can even spread fire to the other side of the window or doorway it was mounted on, allowing it to burn Attackers who are immediately outdoor to it.
  • The Stoic: He is a thoughtful man of few words, and Harry describes him as having "an impeccable poker face" that stand out during Team meetings.

Age: 34
Team: Attackers
Squad: Nighthaven

An unrelenting Indian mercenary and the CEO of NIGHTHAVEN, Kali's bolt-action sniper rifle has an underbarrel launcher for Low Velocity Explosive Lances (LVEL) that drills into gadgets and surfaces before detonating, destroying any gadgets within a small radius. If it hits a breakable or reinforced surface, the LVEL burrows through and explodes on the other side as well.
  • Ace Custom:
    • Her CSRX 300, the first bolt-action rifle in the game, comes with a custom variable-zoom scope, a biometrics reader, futuristic furniture, and an underslung launcher for her LVELs. As a primary weapon, her rifle is already so tricked-out to begin with that it has no attachment choices whatsoever.
    • Lore-wise, her Masterframe Prototype I is considered to be this. It is basically a set of Power Armor custom-made for Kali in order to boost her combat effectiveness, while providing her with improved defense against small arms fire and chemical or biological weaponry, which she demonstrated during the 2021 SIX Invitational. This is not reflected during gameplay, however, as her performance is not affected whether or not she wears the suit, gunfire still hurts her as usual, and wading into Smoke's Z8 clouds still imparts the same level of damage they normally would.
  • Anti-Hero: While her goals are noble, Kali's methods of reaching those goals and building her inner circle are morally-questionable. Harry remarked that the way she routinely and thoroughly drives her new charges to their absolute breaking points in order to "reforge them anew" is hardly any different from that of notorious criminal overlords that her crew would normally be hired to deal with. He suspected that Kali had some kind of ulterior motive in mind, given her frequent clashing with Ash, and he would be proven right several years later, when Kali managed to poach several members of Rainbow to add to her circle at NIGHTHAVEN for an as yet to be revealed scheme, after the conclusion of the 2022 SIX Invitational.
  • Artistic License – Military: Kali's given reason to establish NIGHTHAVEN was due to her disappointment at Indian servicewomen being barred from military combat roles. In reality, the various branches of the Indian military have been accepting female cadets into non-medical positions since as early as 1992, where they would serve as peacekeepers and officers, and their roles became more and more expanded into actual combat at the start of the 21st century, with many recorded and decorated female veterans for their services. The only military branches that are still yet to admit female cadets into their ranks as of 2020 are the special forces and commando units.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: The CSRX 300 can punch through 5 soft surfaces or bodies with one bullet as well as the bulletproof glass on Plane.
  • Benevolent Boss: Despite her chilly attitude towards people outside of NIGHTHAVEN, her treatment of her employees has been nothing but generous and accommodating, if the way Osa and Aruni are provided for is any indication, with Kali paying out of her pocket to make sure they receive the best of the best in terms of equipment research and development. In fact, her first action after convincing her entire SIX Invitational team to defect to NIGHTHAVEN was to immediately give them their own set of custom gear that's leagues above what they've been using under Rainbow.
  • Bond One-Liner: While most other operators are content with not saying anything after getting a kill, Kali puts out the occasional "kill confirmed," but some are more pithy than others.
    "Learn your angles!"
  • Cold Sniper: While she's not quiet like Glaz, Kali is an abrasive, ruthless operator, who guns down Defenders like nobody's business with her custom rifle.
  • Every Bullet is a Tracer: Literally. In order to balance out the CSRX's long-range application, every single shot will leave a trail even more noticeable than those of regular bullets, giving away her position.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Kali's only primary weapon is the CSRX 300, a bolt-action rifle that's cumbersome to operate indoors and other such places with short sightlines. While she still has her machine pistol to fall back on, it's typically not up to snuff when faced with beefier weapons like shotguns and high-caliber machineguns, thus behooving Kali to hang back and pick her shots from the back line while her fellow Attackers rush in to distract the Defenders.
  • Meaningful Name: Kali is the Hindu goddess of destruction, specifically the destroyer of evil.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Kali comes from an affluent family, but her profession is anything but comfy or glamorous. That said, her upbringing played a huge role in making her quite arrogant and ambitious, putting her at odds with other Operators.
  • No-Sell: The LVEL is immune to electricity and jamming, allowing it to remove breach denial on the other side of a wall. It can still be intercepted by grenade catchers, however.
  • One-Hit Kill: While headshots from any weapon are insta-kills, one shot with her rifle to the torso is an insta-down. Kali can even down multiple enemies at once with a single bullet, under the right circumstances. This was later changed in Year 5 Season 4 and refined in Year 6 Season 1 to where one-armors are instantly killed and two and three-armors are instantly downed. Rook plates allow two and three armors to tank one shot while one-armors will just be downed.
  • Private Military Contractors: Incensed by gender restrictions in the Indian military, Kali entered into private security to make better use of her combat skills. She started out in a local protection detail, then established NIGHTHAVEN to operate internationally.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: Comes with being a mercenary. Kali has no allegiance to anybody (save perhaps to her country) and she's only involved in counter-terrorism through peacekeeping and private consultancy jobs, presumably because the pay was good. Harry recruited her because he'd rather have her and NIGHTHAVEN on Rainbow's side, rather than someone else's. This especially puts her in conflict with Ash, a career law enforcement officer committed to counter-terrorism and distrustful of PMCs like her.
  • Rich Bitch: A rich, ruthless, arrogant mercenary who sometimes spits out pithy one-liners when she gets kills. As revealed in a Invitation 2021 tie-in comic, she sees Rainbow merely as a means of raising her own company's profile. In the "Playbook" cinematic, she treats the Invitational as a game rather than a training exercise, baiting her own teammates for kills and injuring Ash, her team leader, in the process.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: This is how she managed to operate in India, despite the country's strict laws on PMCs, and how she obtained the best people, weapons, and technologies for NIGHTHAVEN.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: Kali's zipper suit is sleeveless, showcasing her muscular biceps and adding to her ruthless mercenary look.
  • This Is a Drill: Her LVELs burrow into anything they land on and explode. If they hit a soft or reinforced surface, they drill their way through and explode on both sides of the wall.

    Wamai

Date of Birth: June 1
Age: 28
Team: Defenders
Squad: Nighthaven

A Kenyan Navy veteran and NIGHTHAVEN contractor, Wamai throws Magnetic Neutralizing Electronic Targeting Systems or "Mag-NETs" that stick onto surfaces. Each Mag-NET intercepts one incoming enemy projectile by pulling it towards themselves and reseting its timer, detonating it away from its intended target. Wamai starts with one device and gains more over time.
  • Achilles' Heel: Mag-NETs require line-of-sight to the projectiles to function, meaning that they cannot manipulate the explosives that are launched from the other side of the surface they're adhered to, so Thatcher's EMP grenades can be thrown at a wall they're on to disable them, as can Kali's LVEL shots. Like any other surface-mounted gadget, the complete obliteration of said surface also instantly wipes out any Mag-NET that were attached to it.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: To prevent Attackers from unintentionally killing the hostage, any damage to the hostage from exploding disks are attributed to Wamai. However, once the Attackers get their hands on the hostage, damage from captured projectiles will be attributed to their team.
  • Artistic License – Military: His Keratos .357 is erroneously depicted as being capable of mounting a suppressor. In reality, the revolver's flash gap in between its cylinder and the breech will allow gunfire to escape out of along with expanding gasses from the shot, which will render a suppressor redundant.
  • Artistic License – Physics: Mag-NETs can exert their pull on gadgets that are much larger and heavier than themselves while remaining securely anchored to the surface they're on. Per Newton's Third Law of motion, they should be subjected to the same amount of pull that they're exerting on the attracted object(s), and given that they share the same throw profile as Impact Grenades, Mag-NETs are implied to be very lightweight, so them attracting big objects such as Gridlock's Trax Stinger cans should realistically peel them off of the wall they're attached to.
  • Foil: Is one to Jager, the other grenade-catcher. Wamai uses weapons previously exclusive to the GSG 9, including an assault rifle on the defending side. While Jager and his gadget are boisterous and straight-forward, Wamai and his Mag-NETs are more thoughtful and flexible. Jager is a helicopter technician and a police officer while Wamai is a diver and a mercenary. They even share similar lines.
Jager: You can stop worrying about grenades now.
Wamai: You can worry less about grenades now.
  • Gathering Steam: Like Lesion, Wamai starts out with only one Mag-NET but slowly obtains more as the match goes on. This encourages players to stay alive and play conservatively for as long as possible, as they won't maximize Wamai's potential if he gets taken out early in the game.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: With some careful Mag-NET placement, Wamai can harm or hinder Attackers with their own projectiles. On the other hand, it is also possible for the Mag-NET to redirect an otherwise-harmless projectile to another Defender's face. Or worse, the Hostage, which may result in a loss due to how damage inflicted upon them from rerouted explosives will be attributed to Wamai if the Attackers haven't actually started escorting them yet.
  • Hollywood Magnetism: The Mag-NET device works in mysterious ways.
    • A deployed Mag-NET will attract one Attacker projectile in mid-air, reset its timer, and then detonate after a few seconds, causing the item to be dropped instead of destroyed. The dropped item will then continue to function as usual, meaning deployables will pop open, and explosives will, well, explode. This magnetism works regardless of whether or not said projectile contains ferromagnetic metals in its composition, so Capitão's crossbow bolts can be subjected to their pull as can Gridlock's Trax Stinger canisters. Oddly enough, Hibana's X-KAIROS pellets and regular bullets are not affected by Mag-NETs.
    • They are also very selective, as each Mag-NET is only able to pull one projectile at a time regardless of its size, and multiple Mag-NETs cannot be attracted to the same object. Even if you deploy a Mag-NET in an environment with plenty of smaller metallic objects, it will still only reel in valid projectiles and nothing else.
  • Meaningful Name: "Wamai" is a Swahili word that means "(someone) from the water", which fits his background as a diver and ocean-lover.
  • Private Military Contractors: Wamai joined NIGHTHAVEN due to their promise of more freedom and a less regimented lifestyle compared to the Kenyan Navy.
  • Spy Catsuit: Well, wetsuit. And a blue one at that.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: In-Universe, Wamai's defining characteristic is his ability to hold his breath underwater for minutes on end without much trouble. Experts link this to an abnormal quirk in his physiology that allows him to survive in anoxic environments.
  • Warrior Poet: Wamai is an incredibly introspective person, who has more than a few words to say about spirituality, existentialism, and the like thanks to his experiences as a freediver.
  • Younger Than They Look: Despite appearances, Wamai is actually only 28, close to a decade younger than most of his fellow operators.
