The Queens' siblings

Jokinna the Joy of the Kingdom
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jokinna_butterfly.png
Solena's younger sister.

  • Destination Defenestration: Poor girl died falling down the balcony of her room.
  • Mad Artist: Her mental condition either manifested in eccentric pieces of art or epileptic fits.
  • Mad Prophet: She had schizophrenic and epileptic fits and many of her riddles, looked in foresight, actually foreshadowed the future Dark Age. But she wasn't quite The Ophelia, as she was actually cheerful and lively outside her fits.
  • The Prankster: Loved to play pranks on her sister "Lena". The most famous one is filling her sister's mattress with spoiling food; Solena's room stunk for days until she found out the case.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Did she fall from the balcony by accident, or someone pushed her?
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: Jokinna was a bundle of joy, who always entertained and made people around her laugh despite her mental instability. She died a horrible death as a preteen, affecting her mother and sister so much they scorned the figure of the royal jester and it wasn't until Celestia's reign that the role was recovered in the form of the Foolduke.

    Lunaria
Estelaria's first younger sister

    Redwarf the Adviser
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/redwarf_butterfly.png
Estelaria's younger brother.

    Orbita
Estelaria's last younger sister

    Nixie the Queen Poisoner
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nixie_butterfly.png
Hemera's younger sister.

  • All for Nothing: According to Word of God, Nixie and Roman had zeroes in every part of the romance chart. Meaning for all of Nixie's entitled rage over Hemera hooking up with him, any romance she could have had with him was doomed to fail.
  • Black Widow: Poisoned her husband as well for two reasons. One, because he supported Cosmica and Pyxar being together. And two, to avoid him being punished in lieu of her.
  • Cain and Abel: She got along fine with her sister Hemera at first, until Hemera fell for her eventual husband Roman Fields... who Nixie liked. Nixie poisoned them both.
  • Entitled to Have You: Her hatred towards her sister for hooking up with Roman can be boiled down to "I saw him first!", despite her never talking with him and failing to recognize that Roman too had a say on whom he fell in love with.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Hemera’s chapter of “Tales of a Queen Butterfly” has the backstory of her messy love triangle with her husband and her sister. Nixie asked Hemera to talk to Roman for her when the whole thing started. As time went on, Hemera tried to get Nixie to approach him directly, but she kept avoiding him out of insecurity, letting her sister keep approaching him for her, which inevitably led Hemera and Roman to get closer. By the time Nixie finally plucked up the courage to approach Roman herself, he’d already fallen in love with Hemera. Maybe Hemera wasn’t entirely blameless in the whole mess, but you can say this all could have been prevented if Nixie had just sucked it up and tried to talk to Roman sooner.
  • Master Poisoner: She seems to be quite adept with preparing poison, either for diluting in wine or in a Drugged Lipstick. The reveal of Hemera's three miscarriages after Cosmica via tampered food suggest she's been poisoning her sister from way back, giving a whole new meaning to her title.
  • Murder-Suicide: Poisoned herself along with her sister.
  • Sibling Murder: Nixie is immortalized in history as the first kinslayer of the Butterfly family.
  • Unbalanced By Rival's Kid: Hemera's and Cosmica's biography suggests she was more outraged over Pyxar loving Hemera and Roman's child than over he loving his cousin.

    Nightley
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nightley_butterfly.png
Hemera's younger brother.

  • Cool Uncle: Adopted his nephew's new name in order to serve as his new house's head, now that his parents were dead.
  • Our Founder: Of House Firefly.
  • Sole Survivor: The only one of Estelaria's children who lived until his natural death.

    Grace
Polaria's younger sister.

  • Small Role, Big Impact: She's the mother of Crescenta's cousin and future lover Acorn, the potential father of her daughter Waxinne.

    Dirhhennia the Heaped
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dirhhennia_butterfly.png
Crescenta's older sister.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Dirhhennia basically looks like a taller Crescenta with a slightly different hairstyle and cheekmarks.
  • The Cameo: Makes appearances in the "Princess of Mewni" collection (as she had technically possessed the wand for a couple years) and the "Foreigner Clothing" collection (as Mushroom fashion heavily featured her favorite shape, circles).
  • Cool Aunt: Was practically Febe's second mother.
  • Cool Big Sis: Not only did Crescenta adore her sister, Dirhhennia didn't react to finding out Hawk had added her sister to his bed list beyond warning her she'd get betrayed by him too.
  • Extreme Doormat: Dirhhenia was meek, insecure and had little backbone. She always knew her then-boyfriend Hawk was unfaithful yet never had the courage to break up with him, and when she caught her sister fooling with him, instead of expressing righteous anger or indignation, she was more sad that one of his mistresses was her sister.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Dirhennia could very well have become queen anyway: a despondent Febe, after losing her husband, was planning on naming Dirhennia her successor and committing suicide, but didn't go through with it because she realized she was pregnant with Festivia.
  • Hostage Situation: During the Watchtower Challenge, the Forest Watchtower was captured by the Mud Dwellers. Dirhennia, who married Lord Forest, her husband and the children were held captive.
  • The Wrongful Heir to the Throne: Dirhennia didn't have the determination or magical ability to be queen, and so was the first princess heiress to be replaced for her younger sister.

    Waxinne
Febe's younger sister.

  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: There was debate on whether Waxinne was or not Acorn's daughter.
  • Morality Pet: Despite the potential that she wasn't his biological daughter, Hawk still loved her lots and recognized her as his own.

    Harvest
Asteria's younger brother.

  • Strong Family Resemblance: A male Festivia through and through, even inheriting her (natural) green eyes and being born on the same date as her.

    Hope the Gossip Girl
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hope_butterfly.png
Asteria's younger sister.

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Her title as a Gossip Girl was earn thanks to running through the castle screaming that her sister Asteria kissed a boy.
  • The Cameo: A now-adult Hope cameos in the "Foreigner Clothing" collection to demonstrate Wyvern fashion because, as she married into the Wyvern royal family, it made more sense for her to demonstrate it than any of the Queens. She also cameos in Asteria and Orion's love rating card, right before she starts blabbing to everyone about them kissing.
  • Gossipy Hens: Was a known gossip monger earning her the title "Hope the Gossip Girl"

    Noturna the Missing
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noturna_butterfly.png
Skywynne's younger sister.

  • Curtains Match the Window: Had purple hair and eyes.
  • Perky Goth: Despite going through a goth phrase, she was known for being more approachable and sociable than Skywynne.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Her fate once she ran away a second time, after leaving one of Skywynne's clocks behind her as only proof of her return to the castle; and why she ran away again.

Nebula the Lady of Three Names
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nebula_butterfly.png
Soupina's younger sister.

  • For Want Of A Nail: If it weren't for Soupina proving herself with her soups, and Nebula's disgraceful polyamorous relationship, it's safe to assume the mewnistery would've pressured Skywynne to replace Soupina for her sister.
  • Old Maid: Never married, but had regular visits from her two lovers.
  • Polyamory: She was involved with her two best friends at the same time, and had their sons at the same time in the form of twins. When both boys found out, they weren't upset, and once they took their sons with them, the three agreed on a way to make their unusual relationship work.
  • Practically Different Generations: Born when her sister Soupina was already fourteen years old.
  • Spare to the Throne: Nebula was concieved during the hight of the nobility's doubts at Soupina's mental faculties and ability to be a proper queen.

    Pulsaria
Galaxia's younger sister.

  • A Family Affair: She cheated on her fiance Condor with his brother Heron, who was engaged to her sister Galaxia.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Downplayed. Pulsaria was obviously in love with her sister's then fiance Heron, but no bad blood came between them except for Galaxia slapping her for fooling around with him behind her back, not wanting the "Queen Cheated" label.

    Minguanta the Bland
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miguanta_buttefly.png
Venus' younger sister.

  • Disappointing Older Sibling: Minguanta had two suitors who already got involved with her sister. Minguanta didn't hold any resentment towards Venus, but her disappointment was palpable when she asked if there was any man she hadn't opened her "castle gate" to.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After two disappointments, she managed to find a husband who never "tasted" her sister, and made a family long before Venus did.
  • I Am Not Pretty: Being sister of Venus made a number to her confidence.
  • Long-Lived: She lived up to her 80's.
  • May–December Romance: Eighteen years younger than her future husband, sir Volans.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: Poor Minguanta is put aside by people thanks to being in between Venus (the beautiful heiress to the throne and wand) and Planet (the only son and a prodigy at painting).

    Planet
Venus' younger brother.

  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His nude paintings of his elder sister were stolen from the castle and spread around the town, causing the (further) decline of Venus' reputation, and the rumor she was so depraved she might've committed incest with him.

    Meteora II the Heinous
Luna's younger half-sister.

  • Death of a Child: She died at the tender age of one-two years old, during an event known as the War of the Worlds, according to Eclipsa's biography.
  • Ironic Name: Eclipsa named her after her monster hater grandmother. She actually did so in hopes of one day, the name"Meteora" will be associated with the first monster hybrid as a prove that peaceful coexistence is possible.

    Melody the Kidnapped
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melody_butterfly.png
Solaria's younger sister.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's ambiguous if she was kidnapped (from her own room in the very guarded castle, no less) or if she eloped with her lover.
  • Domestic Abuse: She had a secret relationship with the Spitfire prince, but after some (implied) violence towards her, she dumped him and he kidnapped her shortly after. A kidnapping she didn't survive for long.
  • The Mistress: Solaria's biography reveals that the Spitfire prince she was looking was actually married already.
  • Naughty by Night: This seemingly wholesome princess is implied in Solaria's biography to have been a little bit of a Venus in her private life. Her sister respected her privacy under the condition she took care of herself.
  • Renaissance Man: Unlike her big sister, she prefered music, singing and scholary pursues.
  • Really Gets Around: She had many "classmates" coming with her during her visits.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: She's said to have looked almost identical to her niece Hesperia, save for different cheekmarks.

    Ace
Sideria's younger brother

    Valet
Sideria's second younger brother

    Space
  • Brother–Sister Incest: It's strongly implied that he committed this with Fortuna, and Celena caught them in the act.
  • Primal Scene: Celena catches him having sex with his sister Fortuna. The resulting fallout kills Hesperia.

    Fortuna
  • Brother–Sister Incest: It's strongly implied she committed this with Space.
  • The Exile: The Q & A from Elflyn suggests she got exiled for her crimes.
  • Primal Scene: Celena catches her having sex with her brother, and the resulting fallout kills Hesperia.

    Diurna
Sideria's younger sister.

  • Death of a Child: Tragically died at the age of seven, when she fell into a well and drowned. Her death affected her mom Hesperia so much that she couldn't do her queenly duties, so she abdicated in favor of Sideria.

    Umbra, Dame Antumbra and Penumbra
Celena's younger sisters.

  • Cain and Abel: Penumbra and (especially) Umbra were the Cain to their big sister Celena. They even went as far as to orchestrated her death by making their younger twin brothers mess with Celena's flasks as a "prank" that ended in the potion exploting on Celena's face.
  • Celibate Hero: Penumbra was offered to get arranged for marriage, but she proudly rejected. She was stripped of her birthrights for her troubles.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Antumbra might not be above bullying Celena, but when her prank left Celena in bed with assisted breathing, she confessed her involvement and the brains behind it all, despite the ones responsable being her sisters.
  • Fallen Princess: All the triplets were stripped of their statues as princesses for attempted murder.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Umbra was jealous of Celena's heiress position, while Penumbra was jealous of Celena's beauty.
  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: The paternity of the triplets is still debated in modern times thanks to having different colors than Sideria and Patric. However, Sideria's biography revealed it was because the triplets inherited the brown hair and eyes from their paternal grandparents.
  • Must Make Amends: Feeling remorse after Celena almost died, Antumbra revealed Umbra and Penumbra's plot, and when she was stripped of her princess rights, she became a knight in order to serve Celena for life.
  • Same-Sex Triplets: Notably the first and only triplets in all of the Butterfly family.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Umbra is the mother of Tileford, Diana's cousin husband.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: Umbra's banishment was covered up as her family becoming the first ambassadors in Silvan.

    Afelio and Perielo
Celena's younger brothers.

  • The Prankster: Being young and hyper, they liked to play pranks on Celena, usually involving exploiting her natural shyness. But Celena's biography implies these pranks were more or less harmless.
  • Unwitting Pawn: They messed with Celena's flasks under suggestion of Penumbra; what they thought would be just a harmless prank almost killed their elder sister.

    Crepuscula
Celena's younger sister.

  • Birth-Death Juxtaposition Born the same day of her grandmother Hesperia's death, most likely due to the sudden death of her mother being too much stress on the pregnant Sideria.

    Alva
Diana's first younger sister

    Astro
Diana's first younger brother

    Blackhole

    Lumia
Diana's second younger sister

    Starwynne
Diana's last younger sister

    Etheria II
  • Broken Bird: She was subjected to the psychological torture of St. Olga's Reformatory School for Wayward Princesses. When she returned for Diana's funeral, Sky noticed that "Etheria was a brooding shadow of her former self."
  • Cain and Abel: She almost stabbed Sky after a drunken argument.
  • Celibate Heroine: She refused a marital arragement, though the fact that Sky suggested it might've played a role in the refusal.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: While she almost stabbed her sister, everyone agreed that sending her to St. O's was a little too much.
  • The Dutiful Daughter: An alternative reading of Etheria's joining council meetings. She sought to connect with her mother through them, taking the opportunity that Sky was initially uninterested in them, despite her obligation as the heiress.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Etheria's animosity towards Sky seem to come from Diana's favoritism over Sky due to her smaller height and fragility, and how she had to look after Sky despite being the younger sister.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite all their history, Etheria was among those that tried to get (and later force) Sky to eat, despite the fact that if Sky died and took Moon with her, Etheria was next in line for the throne.
  • Politically-Active Princess: She was more interested in politics and court life than Sky, and when Sky left on her honeymoon while an scandal was raging and without appointing a regent, Etheria had to rise to the occasion.

    Quasar
  • Secret Relationship He was in a relationship with a Firefly bastard, which mewnians look down upon. He kept it secret with the help of his sister Sky.

    Felicity

    Heartrude

Others

    Sir Glossaryck of Terms
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall:
    • Glossaryck interrupts Eclipsa's biography right when it begins to discuss her second coronation and suggests to Aurora she ask her mother about it instead, as it's better to ask someone who actually lived these events.
"I'm not a fan of writing about such recent events."
    • Glossaryck also makes note that Star forced him to put a warning in front of Venus's page and censor the worst about it to protect, quote, 'the supposed innocence your parents believe you still have'.
  • Knighting: One of Urania's final acts before passing away was knighting Glossaryck 'Sir Glossaryck of Terms, Honorary Knight of Butterfly' as a thank you for being there for her.
  • Narrator: The one who wrote the biographies of all the queens in universe, and as such some of the events are told from his perspective.
  • Not So Stoic: Sky notices he just looks sad when he sees Sky, heavily pregnant, knit a onesie for her daughter. Glossaryck, being omniscient, knows Sky will not live to see her daughter wear that onesie.
  • Secret-Keeper: One of only a handful of people that knows Luna rewrote the Book of Spells. He's also the only one that knows Celena isn't as shy as she acts.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Any inconsistencies in the Book of Spells (both real and fake) can be chalked up to either Glossaryck being unsatisfied with what he wrote (Jon explicitly compared it to a fanfic writer) or him trolling Aurora a bit.

    Chrysalida

    Rabbirrot

    Dreamonius

    Solena Wyvern
Daughter of Hope the Gossip Girl, and Etheria's cousin
  • Facial Markings: One of the rare women outside the Butterfly Kingdom to be born with them, thanks to her mother being a Butterfly. They're bunnies like her ancestor Solena the Smitten.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She only plays a brief role in Etheria's biography, but it's her saying that love between a couple was needed to produce children that got Etheria to make amends with Germain and conceive her daughters.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: It's said to look incredibly similar to her ancestor Solena the Smitten.

    Persian Waterson
  • The Lost Lenore: Word of Saint Paul said that Soupina never forgot about him. He was the first noble to not make fun of her eccentric behavior and accepted her for who she was, but he sadly died in the Red Death Plague. While she loved Osmond, Persian's memory remained on a pedestal to her.

    Swan Redbird
Daughter of Pulsaria, and Venus' cousin.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: She coerced her three brothers into having sex with her, and even gave birth to their kids.
  • The Exile: Her fate once her crimes were made known.
  • Extreme Libido: On par with, or even beyond, that of Venus.
  • Kissing Cousins: She was Venus' first sexual partner.
  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: When her twins were born with red hair, at first people thought it was the strong Redbird phenotype, but when her next two kids continued to be redheads with no trace of her husband's characteristics, Venus started to have doubts.
  • Marriage of Convenience: She seems to have decided to get married to cover up her pregnancies by her brothers.
  • Til Murder Do Us Part: She killed her husband by pushing him down the stairs. Either he no longer was useful or he found out about her multiple affairs.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Venus might've been a different girl if it weren't for her bad influence, it was her who sexually awoke her by showing Venus her first Primal Scene, she was her first partner and it was her who encouraged her promiscuity by making it a competition.

    Hilda Blade
Close friend and confidant of Vesper the Morning Star.

  • Body Double: She would occasionally pose as Vesper so Vesper had some time to herself.
  • Heroic Bastard: An illegitimate child who rose to become the queen's most trusted friend and advisor.
  • Identical Stranger: Bears a strong enough resemblance to Vesper that it's widely speculated that Hilda posed as her during a tournament that Vesper was required to take part in. Even Caspian can be psyched out into thinking they Twin Switched, as this comic shows.
  • Odd Friendship: How the nobles viewed Vesper and Hilda's friendship.
  • Shipper on Deck: Adores Vesper's husband Caspian, and wonders why Vesper didn't take him as her lover the very night she got engaged to him.
