Main Characters

    Even
The courageous eleven year-old protagonist from Onecroft.
  • Brats with Slingshots: Her only weapon (besides Dicey) is a slingshot given to her by Odd at the game's beginning. It's too weak to actually hurt anything on its own, but it is sufficient to shoot the crystals on enemies that drop energy she can collect into Dicey to empower his Reality Warper abilities to fight back. When the Queen grabs Dicey at the end of her fight with Even, taunting her that she's nothing with her Dice, Even's response is to blast Dicey out of her grasp with it as a non-verbal Shut Up, Hannibal!.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Even never runs out of rocks for her slingshot.
  • Break the Cutie: This happens to Even after one of her nightmares before waking up in the forest of Fourburg.
  • Call to Adventure: Even gets this when she meets a mysterious ghost, guiding from her hometown to the Valley of the Dice, where she meets Dicey, and all of Random soon afterwards.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Happens during her time in Fourburg, she met a boy called Ludo Bets who offered to smuggle her and Dicey back to Onecroft if they helped him get his brother Bruno back from the High Roller. She succeeds in doing this, however she was so desperate to go home, she never considered that doing this would nearly get her killed at the hands of the brothers, who have been corrupted by the bag itself.
  • Fourth-Wall Observer: She can hear her narrator once she rescues him from Sixtopia's dungeon.
  • Heroic BSoD: By the time Even reaches Fourburg, the trials in her adventure are weighing on her, and she starts wishing to forget about Odd and just go home. After a pep talk from Death however, Even manages to pull herself together and continue her adventure to Sixtopia.
  • Heroic Vow: Originally, it's to rescue her sister. The player later has a choice of adding "to end the Queen's tyranny" as well.
  • The Hero's Journey: Or as the game describes it, The Dice Wielder's Journey. Not only is it Even's journey as a dice wielder, but it's also the journey that she takes in order to find and save her sister, Odd.
  • Kid Hero: No more than eleven when her adventure begins.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Even is horrified when her anger gets the better of her and she nearly takes out the Fourman.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Even and Dicey made such a great duo. Even was always there for Dicey and was worried sick for his safety in many situations.
  • Rescue Arc: Most of the game revolves around Even journeying to Sixtopia to save her sister Odd, plus anyone else who was in danger.

    Dicey
A sentient dice who becomes Even's trusted companion.
  • Hammerspace: Can fit a wide variety of weapons inside his tiny body.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: He speaks in gibberish (even according to the subtitles), but everyone understands him perfectly well.
  • Overly Long Name: Dicey (apparently) has one, hence the nickname.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Dicey was always there for Even, especially in the worst of their adventures and a great many battles against evil. One time, Even questioned on why Dicey hadn't left her side.

    Odd
Even's beloved older sister from Onecroft.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Is corrupted by a mask given to her by the Queen, to the point she will even attack her own sister.
  • Broken Pedestal: Her younger sister, Even, loved and looked her, especially going far as to travel throughout Random to get her back. But during a few nightmares of Even, Odd was shown to be merciless and cruel towards her sister and Lucky, who she threw off a platform under the orders of the Queen. Thankfully, it was the cause of the mask's dark magic she was wearing that the Queen gave to control her.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: After Odd breaks free of her corruption and tricks the Queen into thinking that she defeated her sister, and then told her to shut it before escaping with Even and Dicey, and all of the other Sixer kids as well.
  • I Will Find You: Rescuing her is Even's main objective.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: After Odd manages to trick the Queen into thinking that she was still evil and had defeated her younger sister, Even, she interrupts the Queen's We Can Rule Together speech with "Hey. Shut it, lady."
  • There's No Place Like Home: It's implied this during Even's second dream involving her sister. Odd comes across a model of Onecroft in Sixtopia and recalls that it looked just the same it did when she left.

    Even's Narrator
Even's own narrator who tells the story of her life.
  • Character Narrator: The Narrator focuses on Even's story and her journey throughout Random to save her sister Odd.
  • Distressed Dude: The Queen has him imprisoned in an attempt to hijack Even's story.
  • Interactive Narrator: At first, Even doesn't realize he's there. After meeting him in Sixtopia's dungeons, she becomes aware of him for the rest of the journey and can respond to him.
  • Lemony Narrator: He has a tendency to go on tangents and frequently gets tripped up by events occurring while he's in the process of narrating.

Supporting Characters

    Seemore
A three-eyed monster Even meets in Two-Town who becomes an invaluable ally to her on her quest.
  • Equipment Upgrade: Seemore, with the right amount of dice pips, is capable of upgrading any dice in Random, like Dicey. Not only does this help Even get through Random, but it also helps her fight tougher battles against the Queen's minions and other enemies too.
  • Eye Scream: A non-violent example. His eyes are stolen from him at several points in the story.
  • Distressed Dude: At some point, Seemore is confronted by Nanny Fortuna on the whereabouts of Even and Dicey, and after trying to claim he didn't know her, he is taken to Sixtopia and frozen in ice.
  • Punny Name: See more, because he has an extra eye.

    Mannie Dex
A traveling card salesman who turned his body into a shop. Even encounters him throughout Random.
  • An Economy Is You: For whatever reason, Even seems to be the only one interested in trading with him.
  • Intrepid Merchant: Even meets him in every stop on her journey, from Two-Town to Sixtopia and the Dark Dicemension.
  • Punny Name Mannie Dex, or Many Decks?

    The Ghost (Unmarked Spoilers)
A ghostly figure who guides Even to Sixtopia. Later revealed to be Natalya, the Queen's sister.
  • Astral Projection: Despite the Ghost's appearance, Natalya is actually alive. It's just her spirit outside her body.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: Appears as a rather raggedy looking one.
  • Face Death with Dignity: She is ultimately freed from her stasis and chooses to pass on than go back in.
  • The Herald: It is the Ghost appearing with Odd's plushie that spurs Even into her journey.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: She's sick of being frozen in time, always in pain, while she watches her sister work desperately to heal her. All she wants is to be at peace.

    Death
The Grim Reaper himself, who ferries lost souls to the afterlife.
  • Chekhov's Gift: He gives Even the last pips to help complete Dicey in order for them to proceed into Fivetropolis and eventually Sixtopia.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: A surprisingly nice guy, albeit a brutally honest one. He's not fond of ferrying children to the afterlife.
  • The Ferryman: Even meets him running a boat through a river in the forest, there to pick up the two souls of the Bag Brothers. She hitches a ride with him to get to Fivetropolis.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He talks Even out of her self-pity when she wants to abandon her quest, and thanks to him, Even manages to push onwards towards Sixtopia.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Somewhat Played for Laughs for the first part. However, Death manages to help Even get over her self-pity, her Heroic BSoD and her fears, allowing her to continue her journey to Sixtopia to save her sister.

    Fortune
A sentient dice that once belonged to the Queen of Random while in her youth.
  • Action Prologue: Fortune is seen at the prologue fighting alongside her companion Aleksandra, before she was Queen of Random, and her sister, Natalya.
  • Back for the Finale: Due to Even shooting Dicey out of the Queen's hand, he accidently manages to repair Fortune after been broken a long time ago. Later, The Queen of Random takes up her companion dice once more so she can take on the Dark Lords alone.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: At an unknown point in time, Fortune was smashed to pieces by The Queen after her sister was deathly injured.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Fortune was smashed to pieces by the Queen after her sister was deathly injured by a spear. By the end of the game, she is restored to her former glory by Dicey, after Even manages to shoot him out of The Queen's hand.

Onecroft Characters

Even and Odd's parents.

    Lucky
A Onecroft girl Even is familiar with.
  • Alpha Bitch: She likes to hold her belief that she's destined to be a Sixer over the heads of the other kids in Onecroft.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Having rolled a six from the Queen's One True Dice, Lucky finally gets her wish to become a sixer to live in Sixtopia. However, it's nothing like she expected as all children who roll a six, like her, but with the exception of Odd, have their nightmares fed to the Three Heads.
  • Boomerang Bigot: Looks down on Oners despite being born in Onecroft.

     Bernard
A Onecroft boy who's friends with Even.
  • Distressed Dude: First, he's taken by Nanny Fortuna, and then he's kidnapped by the Shadowman.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: He's very friendly and optimistic, but usually too dim to recognize when he's in danger.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: When Even is in Fivetropolis, she and Bernard speak to each other through a talkie walkie and he is guided by Even when he tries to find his way home, going through Two-Town and the Valley of the Dice. And it's on the last talkie walkie that Bernard befriends a dice who he names Doctor Cubepants.

Valley of the Dice Characters

A giant dice waiting for its wielder.

    Doctor Cubepants
A sentient dice that Bernard befriends after he arrived at The Valley of the Dice.

  • Nice Guy: All his negativity is housed in Royam, leaving a friendly, helpful and polite man.
  • Split-Personality Merge: When Even manages to beat Royam, the Mayor reabsorbs his evil self.

Threedom Characters

    Neeshka
The late king's bodyguard.
  • Artificial Limbs: Her left arm is a metal prosthetic which Even has to return to her.
  • Forgetful Jones: She took it hard when the king was killed, and now has trouble remembering things for more than a few seconds.
  • Parental Substitute: Neeska guarded the royal triplets when they were little. After her wits are restored, she scolds them like a nanny with naughty children and they're thoroughly cowed.

    The Count
One of the royal triplets of Threedom. He is the most paranoid.
  • Manchild: Moreso than his siblings. The fact he sends Even to retrieve his stuffed toy speaks volumes.
  • The Paranoiac: He's convinced assassins lurk around every corner.

    The Duke
One of the royal triplets of Threedom. He is the most spoiled.
  • The Hedonist: Only cares about sitting in his plush throne and eating new delicacies.
  • Sweet Tooth: He and his court eat nothing but cake all day.

One of the royal triplets of Threedom. She is the most warlike.

    Lost Girl
A mysterious girl who asks for help finding her three sisters.
  • Dead All Along: After finding all the sisters of the lost girl, she reveals that she was really dead all along. Assumingly, they were all killed by the terrible war of Threedom.

Fourburg Characters

    Ooma
A legendary witch who has been hidden away since the Queen took over Random.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She's a giant toad living in the creepy catacombs, and besides being cranky and dismissive, she's helpful to Even.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She's first seen as the figure on a card that summons a protective bubble before she's met in person.
  • Super-Empowering: The black warts on her body are the source of pips that can increase a dice's powers.
  • Time Abyss: It's implied she's as old as the Dark Lords, which is old enough to think what's happening to Random as something to sleep through.

    Rando Dicewise
An old dice wielder from the days of the original Fourburg.

    Cubey
Rando's old dice.

Fivetropolis Characters

    The Card Makers
Five artisans who made cards for everyone in Random before the Queen enslaved them. They are the Visionary who imagines the card, the Painter who draws the card, the Gluer who fixes the card to a back, the Alchemist who empowers the card, and the Rulemaster who dictates what the card can do.
  • Actually, I Am Him: Even gets off on the wrong foot with the Alchemist by calling him "little one" and asking where to find the Alchemist.
  • Body Horror: Most characters have some semblance of a proper body, but the Visionary is an onion-shaped mass of flesh with eyes and a nose swirled in.
  • Drama Queen: The Gluer likes to jazz up his role in Even's journey with melodramatic lines. Life in his cell was very boring.
  • Fourth-Wall Observer: The Visionary is aware of the Narrator.
  • The Napoleon: The Alchemist is a short, rat-like creature with a foul temper.
  • The Omniscient: The Visionary's power. As he claims to Even, "A Visionary does not need mere eyes to...see more."
  • Power Echoes: The Visionary is the most mystically inclined Card Maker, and he speaks in a booming voice.

Sixtopia Characters

    Charles
The false Sixtopia's janitor and sole resident.
  • Companion Cube: To satiate his loneliness, Charles talks to himself through the cutouts of people.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Nanny Fortuna left him to care for the cardboard city as a child, and, after sixty years, he's gone bonkers.

Antagonists

    Queen of Random
The cruel ruler of Random.
  • Ambiguously Human: She's unbelievably tall and seems to be made of glossy, black feathers. She did look like a normal girl like Even, Odd and her own sister, Natalya, in the past.
  • Black Magic: Basically what The Queen has from the Dark Lords in order to control all of Random itself.
  • The Corrupter: She brings out Odd's inner dark side, planning to mould her into a little version of her.
  • Driven to Villainy: Due to losing her own sister, Natalya, after a battle, Aleksandra, before her ascension into Queen of Random, decided that all dices had to be destroyed, and thus began the No-Dice War, which resulted in her winning with the power of her black dice.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Her sister, Natalya, who she has kept frozen in time to prevent her death.
  • Evil Is Bigger: She's a giant compared to every other character.
  • Foil: To Even. Whereas Even is determined to save both her sister and anyone she can, there is no one the Queen won't sacrifice to save her sister.
  • Evil Is Petty: When the Queen replaces Even's Narrator, she mostly spews insult after petty insult at the girl.
  • Given Name Reveal: When her sister calls her Aleksandra.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: She took over Random, set up the caste system, and destroyed all dice but her own.
  • Hypocrite: After her sister was killed during an intense battle, The Queen decided to destroy all dice and any dice-wielders who stood in her way after deciding that SHE should be the only one with the power over Random.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: If the Queen hadn't had taken Odd away from Onecroft, then Even wouldn't have journeyed throughout Random to get her back a year later, and moreso, she wouldn't have met Dicey or helped a great many people with their troubles.
  • Not Afraid to Die: The Queen claims this to The Dark Lords after destroying her black dice and watching her own sister Natalya die after so many years of being frozen in time.
  • Redemption Equals Death: It's assumed that the Queen sacrifices her own life to save Random along with her old dice companion, Fortune. All after her sister died in front of her eyes.
  • Villainous Breakdown: The Queen has many breakdowns when things don't go her way, or when Even and Dicey were interfering with her plans. But the most important one is when her own sister, Natalya, dies in her arms after so many years of being frozen in time. Her death is what drove her to destroying the black dice that contained the Dark Lords.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: It's revealed that one of the main reason the Queen of Random is having her way, like making a second upside down version of Two-Town, allowing the Triplets to continue their war etc, is so she can save her fallen sister, Natalya, frozen in time many years after she was killed during a tough fight.

    Nanny Fortuna
The Queen's right hand lackey tasked with collecting children.
  • Child Eater: She boasts to Even that she used to eat kids during her boss fights.
  • The Dragon: To the Queen, acting as her enforcer and collector of children.
  • Wicked Witch: A classic example of an ugly old crone who steals kids. Her overall design brings figures like Baba Yaga to mind.

    Royam
The sadistic Mayor residing over half of Two-Town.

    The Shadowman
A creature of darkness who haunts Threedom.

    The Fourman
Also known as the High Roller, this is the closest thing Fourburg has to a leader. He hosts the region's main attraction, death matches.
  • Pungeon Master: Constantly makes puns with the word "four" during his boss fight. Justified, as he's speaking in front of an audience.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He's rumoured to be a relative of Nanny Fortuna. Considering they only differ in clothes and voices, it's easy to suspect this is true.

    The Bag Brothers
A pair of identical smuggler brothers, Ludo and Bruno Bets, who are more sinister than they appear.
  • And I Must Scream: Ludo and Bruno's souls and flesh were eaten by their bag, and now they're slaves to it.
  • Bag of Holding: Played for Horror in this case, because the bag that Ludo and Bruno had eaten their souls and flesh, including that of many others who went into it. Even and Dicey were so lucky to have escaped and destroyed it.
  • Bag of Kidnapping: Played for Horror. Even and Dicey discover that the bag that Bruno and Ludo have not only been lying about their word, but have also kept people in their bag to steal their valuables and then left them to die.
  • Obviously Evil: The brothers' Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness and claw-like hands are the first hint they mean harm to Even. When the ruse is dropped, they turn into emaciated, black-skinned monsters.

    Queen's Shadow
A dark monster that haunts Even all over Fivetropolis.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Implied to be a manifestation of the sense of dread Even feels when the Queen usurps the narrator.
  • Blob Monster: Looks like a hunchbacked mountain of tar with two long claws, and mask for a face and wearing the Queen's crown.
  • Recurring Boss: Even fights the Queen's Shadow three times.

Spoilers

    The Dark Lords (Spoilers)
Mysterious entities who gave the Queen the power to conquer Random.
  • Dark Is Evil: This is mainly due to the fact that they originate from the dark dicemension and have some form of dark magic which gave the Queen of Random the power to conquer all of Random itself. It can also be noted that they feed on the nightmares of every child who rolls a six to power the Queen's black dice and to assumingly gain their power as well.
  • Foreshadowing: Throughout the game, whether Even's nightmares, within the pages of the storybook, through many images or even mentioned by others, The Dark Lords have been seen before the final battle in Sixtopia.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The Dark Lords gave the Queen of Random much power to destroy every dice throughout the land, and they seem to be more of a threat than the Queen herself.
  • Multiple Head Case: As the trope implies, the Dark Lords are three gigantic heads that each have glowing yellow eyes and long black hair, but aren't attached to any bodies at all.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Unlike the Queen of Random, The Dark Lords are a much greater threat to Random than one might think, feeding off the nightmares of children who become sixers and powering the Queen's mechanical armies.
  • Uncertain Doom: It's unknown what happens to the Dark Lords when The Queen uses her old dice, Fortune, to battle against them.
