Distant relatives of the Royal Family who reside on the Space Mushroom. While they were originally little more than Post-End Game Content collectibles who could only be played as in multiplayer matches in Katamari Damacy, they became playable characters in the main game from We ♥ Katamari onward who could be rolled up in each stage to be unlocked.

Royal Cousins

Cousins introduced in Katamari Damacy.
    Ace
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a1df1cb6_20ab_42c0_a9f0_52e03d9560d1.png

An orange-and-yellow football-headed cousin who's quite self-absorbed.

  • The Ace: Yeah, he wishes. Although...
    • Character Development: Interestingly, the King's profile of him for Beautiful Katamari is more complimentary, calling him intelligent and considerate. Is he maturing into a true Ace?
  • Brick Joke: When Beautiful Katamari released, it was coupled with an online matching game that included profiles for the various cousins. Ace's noted that he was "Considering switching butts to a less spiky model." Years later, he followed through in We ♥ Katamari REROLL.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In Katamari Damacy, he has a cylindrical body like most other cousins. In subsequent games, he has a pointy butt. The REROLL re-releases use his original design.
  • Jerkass: In the ShiftyLook Katamari series, he serves as The Prince's rival, going out of his way to insult and antagonize him and making everything about himself.
  • Orwellian Retcon: We ♥ Katamari changed Ace's design to the pointy butt version that was used for subsequent games. We ♥ Katamari REROLL negates this change by restoring Ace to his original design; however, his profile still refers to him trying out a spikier model for his posterior.
  • Pride: He likes to stare into the mirror, and he always wants to look good to others, even though nobody's actually watching him.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: In Touch My Katamari, he wears a pink speedo as a reference to the absent Lucha.

    Dipp
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aae755dd_3f82_4c5e_bfff_fef85caca9da.png

A flashy, attention-seeking cousin who has a distinctive style: his shirt is always basic black, but covered in flashy, multicolored designs like polka dots or stars. Sometimes goes clubbing with Peso.

  • Attention Whore: His flashing outfits are designed to draw attention to him. When even the King of All Cosmos says, "We wish he knew the difference between looking good and looking gaudy," you know you have a problem...
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: Whatever the pattern might be, it's always cast in bright neon shades and sparkles.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: In subsequent games following the original, Dipp's legs/tights changed from green to purple. However, this wasn't consistent between games, and sometimes in artwork he had legs that are a different color from his corresponding in-game model. This was possibly a development error resulting from porting over older models and a lack of communication between the 2D and 3D artists.

    Foomin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c796d1b9_a49d_46b0_8d80_e0b98042f167.png

A cousin wearing sky blue and orange. Her head is shaped like a U, and her brain is actually divided between the two towers. The King assures us, however, that this doesn't make her smarter. Due to its distinctive shape, she doubles up on most headgear, resulting in dual giraffe hats, flowers and so on.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: The King goes between claiming her brain is divided between both "towers" and that she actually has two entirely separate brains. Either way, he adds it doesn't make her any smarter at all.
  • Orwellian Retcon: The original We ♥ Katamari had her towers grow significantly longer, nearly doubling her overall height. In We ♥ Katamari REROLL, they remain the same height that they were in the original game and Katamari Damacy REROLL.

    Fujio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/421064ad_7640_41a0_8228_106872a31726.png

A cone-headed cousin who appears to be the oldest of the lot, seeing as he has a mustache. Enjoys telling stories; sadly, however, his voice is boring and monotonous, making it difficult for him to keep the attention of his audience.

  • Collector of the Strange: The Japanese Katamari Damacy website says that he collects facial hair as a hobby, implying that the mustache you see on his face is fake.
  • Meaningful Name: The fuji in his name refers to Mount Fuji, which his head resembles. In We ♥ Katamari, he is introduced riding the clouds above Mount Fuji in the Cloud stage.
  • The Smart Guy: Explicitly stated to be one of the most intelligent cousins.

    Havana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9175aad6_9911_478e_b6e4_d8ef002a17d2.png

A red-and-white cousin with an extremely long, wide cylinder for a head. This makes it difficult for him to move around, and he's always getting in the way. And he's extremely talkative, loud and annoying to boot. On the plus side, it saves him from ever worrying about falling into manholes!

  • Double Standard: According to the King, Honey's big head makes her a Cute Clumsy Girl, while Havana's big head makes him clumsy and annoying. What makes this even more hypocritical on the King's part is his head's just as big and wide as Havana's (that is, if you consider that colorful cylinder actually part of his biology, or just a headdress).
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Originally, in Katamari Damacy, Havana had a pill-shaped head like most of the other Cousins, although it was still much longer, with yellow stripes. In the sequel, We ♥ Katamari, his head turned into a cylinder with flat sides and blue stripes but his face got much wider. More recently, his face width was toned down while still staying wider than most Cousins.
  • Orwellian Retcon: Havana's original design was replaced with his smaller face incarnation in Katamari Damacy REROLL, retroactively implementing it into his first appearance.

    Honey
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9b3989b3_ca93_4f85_9a44_ade8c4a45746.png

A cotton-candy pink cousin with a big, bow-shaped head. Its awkward size makes her incredibly clusmy, but she gets Easily Forgiven because of her cuteness. Tends to appear around candies, cakes and other sweet treats.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: She can morph the shape of her head by pulling on either end of it. What makes this even more bizarre is she can do this without having to manually pull on either end of it. Think of is as her answer to a regular human wiggling their ears.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She's very clumsy, and messes up at every task she's given. Interestingly enough, she never screws up when she's not being watched, which gives the implication that she's only clumsy because of the anxiety brought on by people watching her.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In Katamari Damacy, her head only had one knob on either side, and she wore a much darker fuschia/magenta color than her offical artwork. Subsequent games gave her two knobs on either side of her head, while retaining the color discrepency. The REROLL re-releases use Honey's original one-knob design while lightening her coloring to a softer pink.
  • Easily Forgiven: No matter what she breaks, she gets forgiven for it because she's too adorable to stay mad at. That said, this doesn't extend to you if you fail an objective while playing as her...
  • Girlish Pigtails: The shape of her head seems to deliberately invoke this.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: Some games she's magenta, other times she's pastel pink. Sometimes, artwork have her as a color that differs from her corresponding in-game model. The REROLL re-releases seem to have settled on the pastel pink as her permanent color.
  • Meaningful Name: The King's comment when you roll her up in Beautiful Katamari indicates that she smells sweet, which would match her sweet namesake. Plus, the shape of her head resembles a wrapped candy. In We ♥ Katamari, she's introduced in Hansel and Gretel's stage, which is filled with sweets. In Me & My Katamari, she's introduced in the Ant stage standing on a cake, further referencing her sweetness.
  • Orwellian Retcon: We ♥ Katamari changed Honey's design to the two-knobs-on-each-side version that was used for subsequent games. We ♥ Katamari REROLL negates this change by restoring her to her original body shape, while changing her in-game coloring to match her official artwork.
  • Sweet Tooth: Frequently encountered in areas where there's plenty of sweets, such as the gingerbread house in We ♥ Katamari.

    Ichigo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a9d5218f_a6e6_48c8_aeee_68e4a5b90d62.png

A cute cousin with a "strawberry figure". Extremely jealous, and always wants to be the center of attention. Considers Honey to be her rival, though it's unclear whether or not the feeling is mutual.

  • Charm Point: She considers her 'strawberry figure',which she cultivated in time for We ♥ Katamari, to be extremely attractive.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In the original game, Ichigo had a cylindrical body like most other cousins and pink legs/tights. In subsequent games, her body was changed to be strawberry-shaped and her legs became green. Ichigo's design in the REROLL re-releases use her original design rather than her modern one.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Very jealous about the attention Honey receives, causing their rivalry. So far, there's no indication Honey is even aware of this.
  • Kawaiiko: In Japan, she's the only one of the Cousins to have a name that ends in -chan.
  • Meaningful Name: Ichigo means "strawberry".
  • Orwellian Retcon: We ♥ Katamari changed Ichigo's design to the strawberry body version that was used for subsequent games. We ♥ Katamari REROLL negates this change by restoring her to her original design.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Strawberries, naturally. She's been taking to eating only the strawberries in her strawberry shortcakes as a result.

    Johnson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/da8b5249_04c3_4e6d_a6e1_c664bbbf6697.png

A cousin with an a long, cylindrical head that extends straight forward. Wears green and purple just like the Prince; the King has a hard time telling the two apart as a result. Apparently, he was once so surprised that his face jumped out of his body.

    June
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e58ceede_efe1_48fe_9514_748410480b06.png

A carefree cousin covered in blue polka-dots, and a complete and utter innocent. Jokes are completely lost on her. Loves playing in the rain, and may even have some influence over the weather, as the King says, "She likes going out on rainy days, or maybe it just rains when she goes out." Also likes birds; many of her Presents have a 'white bird' theme.

  • Animal Motif: White birds, as many of her Presents are themed after them and her vehicle in We ♥ Katamari's Racing stage is a seagull.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In Katamari Damacy, her arms and legs were navy blue. In subsequent games, her arms and legs are the same color as her face, implying that they're uncovered. The REROLL re-releases use her original design.
  • Does Not Understand Sarcasm: Jokes are completely lost on her.
  • Happy Rain: Noted to be always playing in the rain, or maybe it always starts raining when she's playing? She can be found in certain stages across multiple games dancing under rain clouds or around umbrellas. In We ♥ Katamari, she's introduced in the Cloud stage.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: Her artwork for We ♥ Katamari show that her polka-dots bleed onto the sides of her head, but her in-game model has the sides of her head white with a navy blue border. In other games, sometimes the sides of her head have an additional navy blue circle in the middle, making it look like a white and navy bull's eye. Even the portrait being used for her entry here has a blue center and a navy border; none of her in-game models use this coloring.
  • Meaningful Name: Originally named Jun, for "Purity", hence the emphasis always placed on her complete innocence. Transferred to English by having her being born in June.
  • Orwellian Retcon: We ♥ Katamari changed June's design to have naked limbs, which was used for subsequent games. We ♥ Katamari negates this change by restoring her to her original design.
  • Purity Personified: So much so that her name reflects this fact.

    Jungle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5f245bea_09a7_4965_b14d_5478da6025d0.png

A cousin who's an expert at camouflage. Between Katamari Damacy and We ♥ Katamari, he had upgraded from a camo suit to a neat optical camo effect. This is a bit of a double-edged sword, however, since he has trouble with others forgetting about him... or leaving him behind during trips... or walking right into him.

  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Originally, he wore a brown and green camo pattern. In subsequent games, his texture would change to match whatever's happening in the center of the screen. The REROLL re-releases replace this with an Unmoving Plaid of a sunny countryside, likely to match his in-game appearance with his artwork.
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: When he upgraded to the optical camo, he also donned rainbow-striped tights. Marcy later borrowed these in Touch My Katamari when Jungle went on vacation during that game.
  • Invisibility Cloak: From We ♥ Katamari on, his attire serves as one.
  • Orwellian Retcon: In the original Katamari Damacy, Jungle had a camouflage pattern, but starting with We ♥ Katamari, his pattern consistently became Unmoving Plaid. However, in Katamari Damacy REROLL, Jungle was modified to keep the Unmoving Plaid pattern he was outfitted with in later entries.
  • Unmoving Plaid: His pattern in every game starting with We ♥ Katamari has a static image of a sunny countryside stay put while he moves around.
  • Visible Invisibility: His camouflage makes it so that people tend to not notice him, even when he's in the same room.

    Kuro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/820d8e9e_bc60_44fa_9fff_ba06e797408e.png

This cousin's a huge fan of Sentai and Toku, and dresses accordingly. Tries to be a lone wolf, and has trouble getting along with others, preferring to keep to himself. Has a V-shaped antennae.

  • Cool Bike: In We ♥ Katamari, he brings a black-and-red motorcycle that matches his aesthetic to the Racetrack levels.
  • Meaningful Name: Kuro is Japanese for "black".
  • Orwellian Retcon: We ♥ Katamari gave Kuro two antennae instead of one, which was the design used for subsequent games. We ♥ Katamari REROLL negates this change by restoring him to his original one-antenna design.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: How his version of any scarf-like Present always looks.
  • "Super Sentai" Stance: Regularly attempts a solo version.

    Lalala
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d56a9d05_7d8d_40ca_a4e1_90bbde5a12c2.png

The nudist cousin. Ever since the original game, Lalala has a considerable tan/sunburn, perhaps to mask said nudity. Used to be of Ambiguous Gender, until Beautiful Katamari referred to Lalala as a "she". This may be due to Pronoun Trouble and Viewer Gender Confusion, though.

  • Inconsistent Coloring: Sometimes she has paler palms, sometimes she doesn't.
  • Kissing Cousins: Columbo and Lalala are said to be are "mutually attracted" to each other, according to the former's profile. It's never explained if they are cousins or just have the Prince as a mutual relative.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Lalala prefers to go around naked, much to the bother of the King. May likely be an exhibitionist.
  • Orwellian Retcon: Lalala's much paler original design was replaced with her later sunburnt incarnation in Katamari Damacy REROLL, retroactively implementing it into her first appearance.
  • Pronoun Trouble: Perhaps intentionally. The King's dialogue tends to avoid referring to Lalala by third-person pronouns across games, leaving the gender undetermined. Only the official website and Beautiful Katamari's matching game refer to Lalala as "she".
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: invokedEven the King of All Cosmos wasn't sure about her gender, and nobody's completely certain whether Beautiful clarified it or just ran into Pronoun Trouble.

    Marcy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/49658c5d_5bfb_4e41_874f_c560bf7c9e50.png

A cheerful, but temperamental cousin. Went from wearing patchwork purple in the first game to a brightly colored mishmash in We ♥ Katamari, and hasn't looked back since. Thinks she has great fashion sense — and given the example the King sets, that isn't surprising.

  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: Her signature outfit from We ♥ Katamari on is all sorts of bright colors. In Touch My Katamari, she even adds Jungle's rainbow leggings into the mix.
  • The Fashionista: Though she hasn't found any particular designers she likes yet.
  • Orwellian Retcon: Her traditional rainbow design was created for We ♥ Katamari and has been her design in games since. However, Katamari Damacy REROLL took her original purple design from the first game and ended up replacing it with her rainbow redesign, retroactively implementing it into her first appearance.

    Marny
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/66cb6fac_cadf_4f18_acc6_698231a8c142.png

A completely round cousin who looks like a bright yellow tennis ball. With limbs. And an antenna. While he looks clumsy, he's actually light on his feet and is a great swimmer who loves scuba diving.

  • Acrofatic: Despite his figure, he doesn't have any trouble getting around at all.
  • Ambiguously Related: His Collection description states that Marny isn't a full blood relative to the Prince, as a way of explaining why his body shape is so different. And yet, he does have the same general characteristics of a Cousin, so where does he come from?

    Miso
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a809fba3_07c4_4dd4_84e3_1fa7bd04eabd.png

A soup bowl-headed cousin... complete with a head full of miso. Smells very sweet, and is warm to the touch, with a warm heart to match. The King worries about her spilling out, though that never seems to be an actual problem. Has a tendency to wander into environments where she's putting herself in even more danger, such as walking around the school tables at lunchtime.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: It isn't exactly clear what would happen if she ever spills or loses all her soup... though the fact the King's concerned about it doesn't imply anything good.
  • The Ditz: According to the King, "She pretends to be thinking and is blissfully free of anything resembling thought." This could be a reference to her design in the first game, which didn't have soup in her head, making her literally empty-headed.
  • Friend to All Children: One of her website animations has her comforting a crying child by letting him drink the miso from her head.
  • Kind Hearted Simpleton: Beautiful Katamari's leaderboard describes her as "very warm on the outside", a warm heart who's nice to others. She's also apparently blissfully devoid of thought.
  • Meaningful Name: Named for the type of soup that fills her head.

    Nickel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d63404b2_b97e_4685_85bb_e04c1902e3ad.png

A metallic, robotic cousin with wheels on his feet. Has gone through several minor upgrades over the course of the series, but retains his distinctively cybernetic appearance. He likes heavy metal music.

  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: His original appearance was more in line with most other cousins, using a pipe for a head and otherwise relying upon his metallic coloring to convey his robotic nature. Subsequent games gave him wheels for feet, claws for hands, batteries, and a more distinct head and body. The REROLL re-releases changed his cylindrical head to be more boxy and removed his batteries, likely to match his in-game appearance with his artwork.
  • Meaningful Name: Nickel is a type of metal, fitting for the robotic Cousin.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: In the original Katamari Damacy, he was powered by a battery on his back that needed frequent recharging. Upon becoming a playable character (along with all the other Cousins) in We ♥ Katamari, he got a new power source to avoid any Fridge Logic about overusing him.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Royal Cousin-slash-robot.
  • Orwellian Retcon: His original appearance was replaced with a boxier version of his later incarnation in Katamari Damacy REROLL, retroactively implementing it into his first appearance.

    Nik
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c6129764_38f7_4bb9_9e4b_301f11686ece.png

A plump, yellow, horned cousin who's always eating, and can usually be found around lots of food. Has no trouble whatsoever keeping up with his cousins, despite his size.

  • Acrofatic: Despite his larger figure, he's just as capable of pushing around heavy katamaris as the rest of his cousins.
  • Big Eater: In stages, he's often found around food and/or empty bowls. In We ♥ Katamari, he's introduced in the Sumo Wrestler stage, which is all about collecting food and gaining calories.
  • Meaningful Name: Niku, as his named would be pronounced in Japanese, can be read as "meat" (肉), both of the kind you eat and the flesh of the body (as in physique). Appropriate for the chubby, Big Eater Cousin.

    Njamo (originally Colombo)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/acfa10d7_6263_4f77_b7e8_31d924d23980.png

A cousin covered head-to-toe in shaggy black fur, so that he resembles a literal black sheep — though there's no indication he's actually considered as such. Dislikes summer due to the heat. In later games, his fur takes on subtle camouflage-like tones, most likely in order to make him a bit more visually interesting. He's also complimented on his neatness and immaculate grooming, which may also have something to do with that added effect.

  • Friend to All Living Things: Usually appears around animals.
  • Kissing Cousins: He and Lalala are stated to be "mutually attracted" to one another, likely because they're both nudists (unless you consider the former's hair his clothes since it does cover him up). It's possible they're both related to the Prince but not each other, but it's never explained.
  • Meaningful Name: His new name "Njamo" (ンジャモ). Shift the last three characters around, and and you get "moja" (モジャ), the Japanese onomatopoeia for something shaggy or hairy, which he certainly is.
  • Sudden Name Change: Is named "Njamo" (ンジャモ in Japanese) in We ♥ Katamari REROLL due to his name being similar to an old Japanese racial slur, but isn't explained in-game. His planet is renamed Lalanja to reflect this.

    Odeko
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/98ad3db2_5e45_48fe_8f18_f5f4df869216.png

A cousin wearing all purple whose head extends straight upward, making him a naturally tall cousin.

  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Much like Johnson, the shape of his body can seem rather suggestive.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Like Johnson, his head gets longer with each game. The REROLL re-releases adjusted his height to be somewhere between his original and his later appearances.
  • Meaningful Name: Odeko can be read as "prominent forehead" or just "forehead" (お凸), which is fitting for this Cousin's tall head.
  • Pride: He's got a big head when it comes to his height, despite the fact that the vantage point remains the same, making him no taller than many of his other cousins.

    Opeo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/400a6fb5_2d84_44af_a7ad_45a5223bd955.png

An accident-prone Cousin who's always covered in bandages, complete with a cast on his leg. Despite being prone to illness and injury, he's got a strong mentality and lots of vitality.

  • Bandage Mummy: Covered from head to toe in bandages.
  • Meaningful Name: Opeo as in opioid or the Office of Preparedness and Emergency Operations (OPEO). His Japanese name, Ope, is short for operation. These all match Opeo's theming as a medical patient.
  • Orwellian Retcon: We ♥ Katamari got rid of the hole in his torso, gave him less bandages, and a cast on one leg. We ♥ Katamari REROLL negates this change by restoring him to his original appearance of having the hole and being covered in bandages.
  • Torso with a View: In some of the games, Opeo has a large, gaping hole in his stomach.

    Peso
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a9c14e24_c0da_40d6_b525_f2372d8af519.png

A gray and red cousin with a bullseye design on both sides of his roundish head. Always seeking attention, he's tried out various hobbies to attract it. Started out as an aspiring dancer at first, but dropped that to try his hand at golfing during We ♥ Katamari; now, he's dropped golfing to focus on singing and dancing.

    Shikao
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2e5830c9_737e_412a_91ba_b629ae42c217.png

An orange cousin with a box-shaped head and a 'V'-shaped antennae, and a television-loving maniac. Good with VCRs, he sets up to record programs for his cousins, like Foomin's fashion shows, so they don't have to worry about missing anything while rolling katamaris. Also loves telling scary stories, though he always ends up scaring himself instead.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: The shape of his head falls under this simply because of how it changed between games: originally, it was just a flat-on square, but at some point between Katamari Damacy and We ♥ Katamari, the location shifted so that it was now on a corner, giving him peripheral vision. According to the King, this shift occurred so he could watch scary movies out of the corner of his eye. Changed in Katamari Damacy REROLL to match his later appearance, to be more in line with his concept art.
  • Orwellian Retcon: Katamari Damacy REROLL took his original flat-face design from the first game and ended up replacing it with his corner-face redesign, retroactively implementing it into his first appearance.
  • Taught by Television: He does nothing but watch television.

    Velvet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/783736e3_950d_4862_8b2c_da6f1d33c2fd.png

A haughty violet cousin who used to hover about two centimeters above the ground. (She actually did this to hide the fact she was a little bit shorter than the others. By the time We ♥ Katamari rolled around, however, she'd caught up enough that she didn't have to float anymore.) Now, she focuses on acting rich, relaxed and mature to try and impress her cousins. Her skirt flares out like Saturn's ring, giving her a more distinctive shape.

  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: She originally had no legs and floated off the ground. Subsequent games gave her legs. Katamari Damacy REROLL uses the legless design original to that game. We ♥ Katamari REROLL uses the design with legs original to that game.
  • Biting the Handkerchief: One of her LINE stickers has her pulling on a handkerchief this way while bracing it with both hands.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: Cares a lot about her ladylike image, and primarily wears soft shades of violet.
  • Gravity Is Purple: A Downplayed invocation, as the Royal Cousin who tends to hover around wears violet as her signature shade.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Shown doing this in one of the LINE stickers.
  • The Ojou: This is the sort of image she strives for.
  • Pride: Originally hovered just to hide the fact she was slightly shorter than her peers, and generally cares a lot about maintaining her image.
  • Punny Name: A subtle version. In Japanese, her name is transliterated as ベルベット, read 'Berubetto'. 'Beru' is also one way of writing 'bell' in katakana, rather than using 鈴 ('suzu'). Her skirt flares out in such a way that her body resembles a bell, with the slope emphasized by several rings round her waist and a yellow hem/lip.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Mostly wears violet, with a yellow frame around her face and a matching ring around the hem of her bell/UFO-shaped skirt.

Second Cousins

Cousins introduced in We ♥ Katamari.
    Beyond
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2bbb9c1c_7070_40fd_95ce_cda3c0287ffe.png

This second cousin is shaped rather like a banana. A pink and blue banana with a pill-shaped head, and gangly little arms and legs. His pants are custom made. Only ever eats fruits and vegetables. Rocks from side to side constantly.

  • Animal Motifs: Birds. His weird body shape is vaguely bird-like, an animation on the official website has him sitting in a nest with eggs, and his mask in We ♥ Katamari is a toucan.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Normally found hanging out around animals.
  • Long Neck: His banana-shaped body gives him the appearance of having a long neck, sort of like a brontosaurus, considering the distance between his head and arms.

    Can-Can
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a72d90b5_a9af_4427_b3a0_e28562f562fa.png

A second cousin with a narrow, oval-shaped head and a blocky body. Very stiff, both in stilted movements and his stuffy sense of justice. Refuses to have anything to do with "bad stuff". When he gets upset, his head spins so quickly that it catches on fire. (This doesn't seem to bother him much, though)

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: His head is almost constantly spinning, and at times seems to be in danger of falling off.
  • The Comically Serious: Described as a rigid stickler for rules who doesn't want to be involved in "bad stuff". However, his wacky extended family and the various strange happenings on Earth would only serve to undermine his seriousness.
  • Incendiary Exponent: As mentioned above, can set his head on fire just by getting too wound up. And, aside from being angry in the first place, isn't really bothered by it.
  • Justice Will Prevail: His Cousin Leaderboard description in Beautiful Katamari describes him as having a "stiff sense of justice".

    Daisy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/109bb7a7_ef34_4e9f_a805_568fae779e54.png

A second cousin with cow-print clothes, tiny hooves for hands, and pale pink legs. Carefree and laidback, to the point that the King compliments her on it: "Just what We like to see!"

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: According to the King in We ♥ Katamari, she isn't actually just wearing pink leggings... those are udders. And her feet. No wonder she doesn't like running around...
  • Dub Name Change: Her original name over in Japan? Horumon. It's a type of beef dish where the less renowned part of the cow are eaten, such as tongue, stomach, intestines, maybe even udders. It can also be read as "Hormone", which are commonly used on cattle.
  • Depending on the Artist: Sometimes she's depicted with black Cousin hands, other times she has black hooves. We ♥ Katamari REROLL gave her black front hooves and white back hooves.

    Drooby
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/db9006dc_c3df_400b_b853_6d43a55e684c.png

A big and boxy cousin with a massive drill where her legs should be. Hard-working, strong, and reliable. Can tell how well-done a roast is with just the tip of her finger.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: A cube-shaped head and body, a long neck akin to a tree trunk, penguin flipper-like arms, and a massive grey drill where her legs should be. Also, her breasts aren't breasts, but "Mystery Globes" that she can remove from her body at will... and she can use them to make holes in the ground, as well.
  • Dub Name Change: Originally named 'Boss'.
  • Gonk: Sadly, her distinctive appearance seems to invoke this reaction a lot, and she frequently lags far behind in popularity polls...
  • Long Neck: Has a long neck coming up from within her boxy torso.
  • Meaningful Name: A portmanteau of "drill" and "booby", since she's got a huge drill instead of legs and a huge pair of... "mystery globes".
    • Her original name, "Boss", is likely meant to invoke bosses in video games, which fits her since she's somewhat intimidating-looking and is mentioned to be quite strong, and is the biggest, most difficult, and last cousin to roll up in the second game.
  • This Is a Drill: Instead of legs. Supposedly, her Mystery Globes are what power it, and she can drill with *those* too.
  • Torpedo Tits: We ♥ Katamari REROLL has an icon of her shooting her "Mystery Globe" like a missile.

    Huey
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a9769395_87d6_407a_8cad_7d47b603ed78.png

A cheerful, but somewhat shy second cousin with a 'Y'-shaped body. Wears yellow tights and tiny red shoes so that his legs look like his antennae. Timid, but eager to please; just the tiniest bit of praise makes his face light up with joy.

    Kinoko
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a1a116cf_b7f8_4b4c_884f_31c7729f9531.png

This second cousin looks like an orange mushroom, with green speckles all over her cap. Rather docile compared to most of the others; since she kicks up a lot of dirt when moving, she prefers staying still.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Lacks a regular face, and presents that would be placed logically on a cousin's head are instead planted in seemingly random locations on her cap.
  • Informed Ability: According to one of the King's profiles, she also emits paralyzing spores when moving around. This doesn't bar her from rolling alongside a friend, however.
  • Meaningful Name: Kinoko is Japanese for "mushroom".

    L'Amour
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/62a90404_2f3d_47c4_a1bf_da83790fcc1d.png

A second cousin who's shaped like a pink caterpillar. Loves love and romance, and wants everybody to be happy and content with those they care about most.

  • Heart Symbol: Theses are said to change appearance whenever she gets a couple together.
  • Love Freak: She loves romance, and acts as a sort of Cupid.
  • Meaningful Name: L'Amour is French for "love".

    Lucha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0bdeb776_c7b6_437f_9eab_dbd0404811ea.png

As his name suggests, Lucha loves Professional Wrestling, and always wears a lucha mask. While fiercely competitive in the ring, outside he's very kind and considerate. Also, he doesn't wear a shirt.

  • Dub Name Change: His name is Fukumen in Japanese.
  • Hot-Blooded: Loves a good bout.
  • Masked Luchador: Obviously. His mask in We ♥ Katamari is also a luchador's mask.
  • Mask Power: Has laces on the back of his head, suggesting he's actually wearing a mask.
  • Meaningful Name: He dresses like a luchador and loves wrestling. His Japanese name, Fukumen, means "mask" (覆面) and is used to call masked wrestlers.
  • Spirited Competitor: Always looking for a good fight. In We ♥ Katamari, he's introduced at the top of a bunch of stacked wrestling rings that have various people fighting on them. In Beautiful Katamari, he's introduced trying to fight a kangaroo.
  • Underwear of Power: He wears two things — a mask, and short black trunks.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Has no shirt. In We ♥ Katamari he also has visible nipples.

    Macho
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7c102d2c_12a1_4055_b662_ddb8faac0276.png

A powerful-looking second cousin whose broad shoulders and normal waist make him look like an upside-down triangle. Despite his strength, however, he's actually a pacifist who hates fighting.

  • Actual Pacifist: One of the perks of being a pacifist in a game series that doesn't focus on combat. (Unless you count rolling a Katamari as violence, which would make him a Technical Pacifist...)
  • Ascended Extra: In the games he's an optional collectible. In the webcomic, he's a prominent, recurring character.
  • Dub Name Change: His name is Guts in Japanese.
  • Gentle Giant: Despite his bulk and strength, he prefers to avoid conflict.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Has this dynamic with Ichigo in the webcomic.
  • Meaningful Name: "Macho" is a term used to refer to someone who is very muscular, which Macho is. His Japanese name, Guts, is another word for strength or power.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Fuchsia, anyway. It doesn't stop him from being macho.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: His upside-down triangle physique give him broad shoulder but a narrow waist and small legs.

    Miki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/57fd21eb_aadb_4fcd_a0f9_a8f8fda46f12.png

A bright yellow second cousin with three antennae, one on top and one on each side of her head. Aims to be in the top three in whatever she does; however, she tends to end up in the top six instead. No matter what setbacks she faces, she never gives up and always keeps trying, striving to get better and better.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: She can squish and stretch her head by grabbing her side antennae.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: Subverted; while she doesn't quite reach her goal of top three, top six isn't so bad when you consider how many Cousins she's likely competing with.
  • Plucky Girl: The King describes her as "cheerful" and she's always working hard to be in the top three of whatever she does.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Mostly wears yellow, with a purple face-frame and leggings.

    Nutsuo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ab8e29f1_312b_4e5d_83ce_dd84b128a7fd.png

This second cousin is shaped like a peanut set on its end, and wears blue and white stripes. He even smells like peanuts. Has noticeably stubby arms set low on his body — too low for him to lift things up to his mouth easily. Poor guy.

  • Lampshade Hanging: The King points out that his arms are too short to reach his mouth... and wonders how he eats.
  • Long Neck: His face is set high above his shoulders, contributing to his peanut shape.
  • Punny Name: Looks like a peanut, with a name that illustrates that.

    Odeon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/306b2fb7_1604_449a_afa1_e296a4ca209c.png

A second cousin who looks just like the Prince, except for the fact that instead of an antennae, he has a long neck and little red head that looks like an antennae. And that's where his face is located, instead of on his body. Also, his arms hang off the side of his 'head'. As a result, he's one of the stranger-looking of the second cousins...

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Just... everything. His face being on his antenna, his arms being on his head, and somehow the King STILL can't tell him apart from the Prince. He's also able to elongate and shorten his neck, which he can use to lean his head onto his arm.
  • Long Neck: What would be the antenna stem on most other Cousins is his neck, making him taller. Since his shoulders are so wide, he needs help putting on a scarf.
  • Oddball Doppelgänger: Wears the exact same colors as the Prince, but his shifted body structure makes him stand out even among the more unusual-looking of his peers.
  • Punny Name: His name relates to oden, a food comprised of various ingredients on a skewer stewed in broth. His weird body shape resembles the silhouette of oden with his neck standing in for the skewer.
  • Visual Pun: In Beautiful Katamari, you find him standing around a bunch of kendama toys, which resembles his body structure.

    Shy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/45d86eab_daa5_4d03_a06f_69d57bef0db2.png

A pale blue, timid second cousin whose face is embedded inside her round head, like a diving helmet, or like she's wearing a hooded jacket. A complete Shrinking Violet; however, she's also a gold medalist swimmer, capable of completing the 100-meter freestyle without ever having to lift her head to breathe.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Her face is inside of her head. At the probable cost of her peripheral vision, her face-recess makes an air pocket when she's in water, letting her swim for longer without needing to come up for air.
  • Meaningful Name: Hides her face deep in her head. Her Mask is even a cork plugged into the opening.
  • Shrinking Violet: Very timid, as her name indicates and the fact that her face is receded into her head, allowing her to hide.

    Signolo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/712522b6_a09e_4a2a_8edb_1d059743ae27.png

A second cousin with three faces, set on his curved head like traffic lights: blue, then yellow, then red. These faces flash brightly, and he even has a night job working as a safety guard, putting his talents to good use.

    Slip
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d2ee3e62_0165_4972_ad40_381a08006ca0.png

A flimsy, paper-thin second cousin who looks exactly like the Prince if he was flattened to two-dimensions. Since he's so light, he's very good at flying, and he has a very slight presence. Sometimes takes advantage of this to play pranks, since he can easily escape or hide himself.

  • Oddball Doppelgänger: In his debut game, he can be found by replaying the Tutorial Level as Ace; rather than simply swapping roles with the Prince, you get Slip instead.
  • Paper People: Appears to be made of cardboard or thick paper.
  • Punny Name: He's as thin as a slip of paper.

    Twinkle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/85e815fc_15d9_4d65_af48_20167cb54397.png

A cousin shaped like a four-pointed star. Really loves Christmas, and likes to hang out in treetops. Bright and cheerful, but also has a rather sensitive side to his personality.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Twinkle is a little odd but aside from his star-shaped body, he's anatomically similar to most other Cousins. His family, on the other hand, have even weirder body shapes, like the one shaped like a lightning bolt or the one shaped like an hourglass with two faces.
  • Dub Name Change: Originally named "Subaru", which is the Japanese name of the Pleiades constellation.
  • Meaningful Name: Twinkle, twinkle, little star...
  • Visual Pun: Sometimes you find him standing on top of a potted tree. In other words, he's the star on the top of a Christmas tree.

Rookies

Cousins introduced in Me & My Katamari.
    Ban-Ban
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0a3189df_2cf5_4992_a026_78d9618a738d.png

A white-and-pink rookie who's shaped like a doughnut. Has a "manly character", yet loves eating sweets.

    Hans
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e066c304_d7ce_461d_9510_a0f7c491f8c1.png

A rookie who, like Miso, has a bowl-shaped head. Instead of carrying soup, however, he carries his own pale white face in his bowl. Wears pale blue, and has orange and white stripes around the rim of his bowl. The King notes that his shape is perfect for lounging around the house all day. Always smiling.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: As noted above, his face is located inside his bowl head rather than on the front, something you'd think would make moving around more difficult, let alone rolling katamari...

    Kenta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9ccde2c3_88c9_407b_aa6a_33d995c292d8.png

A rookie with a "face like a horse" — and a body built like a centaur's, with four legs all clad in bright purple tights. Also wears green like the Prince. Very prudent, and a hard-worker.

  • Determinator
  • Informed Attribute: His face is stated to look like that of a horse, but his face doesn't look any different from most other cousins.
  • Oddball Doppelgänger: Another example of somebody copying the Dashing Prince's colors and relying upon their physical differences to stand out.
  • Our Centaurs Are Different: He's got the Prince's body from his torso upwards, but everything below that is pure horse.

    Mu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/920d7322_db54_437c_aa24_994ce0222bf6.png

A rookie wearing all black, with a white Dramatic Ellipsis where his face should be. Unsurprisingly, he tends to be very quiet. Has a bit of trouble making friends, but always keeps his promises, no matter what.

    Nai-Nai
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4b894477_72f2_49ae_b046_cc738a7c6ca7.png

A rookie shaped like a box, which contains an entire universe. Her face is located within the box's lid. Keeps her thoughts to herself, and is secretly working on a full-length novel.

  • Dub Name Change: Over in Japan, her full name is "Nai Nai 043".
  • Punny Name: Her name sounds similar to "night night".
  • The Quiet One
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Invoked. The King refers to Nai-Nai as 'she' in Me & My Katamari, and a few of her personalized Presents seem meant to emphasize this. Meanwhile the Cousin leaderboard for Beautiful Katamari refers to her as a male.

    Norn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/369d1da8_088a_4f6d_89c9_1bd2056870d1.png

A blue, thimble-shaped rookie with long, gangly arms and long, long legs. Absolutely loves goldfish, and keeps an entire tankful of them.

    Paula
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/38e37b30_b71d_43cc_ad5f_0bfee20a4dda.png

A tall rookie who wears all pink, and has four petals framing her face like a flower. Her parents are very rich, and she keeps a duck in her bedroom.

    Pokkle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ab2805a0_53c2_4121_ad4a_3018afeb7c12.png

A rookie from a faraway, magical country. Pokkle doesn't look anything like the other cousins; instead, he looks like a slender puppet with an tall cone hat. Originally just visiting during Me & My Katamari, he's had so much fun with the Prince and all his cousins that he's completely forgotten to go back home...

  • Non-Standard Character Design: Unlike every other member of the royal family, he has a normal round head and mostly human proportions. He still has the face most cousins do, though.

Half-Cousins

Cousins introduced in Beautiful Katamari.
    Harvest
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5a96472a_1798_4117_b086_88a3440656f3.png

A half cousin whose head is shaped like an apple, and wears a green dress to offset the rest of her bright red clothes. According to the King, she has the reflexes of a monkey.

    Kunihiro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e6960aef_e430_483a_8389_cfa795de6b77.png

This half cousin has a boxy head with fancy red paper pulled up over it and tied in a bow on his antennae, making it look like a carryout bag. He hails from the countryside, and loves riding on different types of vehicles.

    Kyun
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a3f4a11d_3439_4a0d_805e_70bc95c3b936.png

An ash-grey half cousin shaped like a teardrop, with a long, pointed head. With her slender figure, she aspires for a top spot in the world of modeling.

    Mag
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a5ae842d_0135_4c3b_a9ee_909dd98a2b08.png

A child of the digital revolution, Mag has a Liquid Crystal Display plastered over her face, displaying different things. Aside from that, she wears blue and gray clothes, with digital lightning down one side. Addicted to playing video games, resulting in both quick reflexes and chronic dry eyes.

    Pu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/07c1cb79_aa44_4608_8e4b_2077b7961b29.png

A little cousin wearing all green, with little leaves sprouting off of her antennae. Often mistaken for a baby because of those leaves.

  • Oddball Doppelgänger: Downplayed compared to other examples; while she wears the same shade of green as the Prince, she nixes the purple tights, and her figure isn't that drastically different from most of her peers.
  • Older Than They Look: The fresh young leaves on her antennae paired with her slightly chubby figure make her look like she's very young.

    Ryu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5b6dc275_cf18_440c_8a24_33f9102ba8c3.png

It was only a matter of time before the token Ninja cousin showed up, right? Ryu wears all purple and fishnets, and carries a katana on his back. He's supposed to know some mysterious moves, but so far, the King has never actually seen any of these.

    Sherman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8e66b50e_94c7_4a41_a942_1f969c4e8974.png

A cousin who's shaped like a snowman. Claims that he's capable of melting his whole body down if he wants, but is never in the mood to actually try it. (Possibly because he's never claimed to have the ability to pull himself together afterwards...)

  • Informed Ability: We do get to see him melt himself in the comics, but it turns out he has a good reason for not wanting to: he can't rebuild himself afterwards.
  • Snowlems: He's a living snowman. Or at least claims to be.

    The Princess
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/717184a1_9581_4eff_a527_a3c99c3d29c5.png

Not actually a princess, but calls herself the Princess anyway. She's also one of the only cousins with visible hair (brunette and styled just like the Queen's). Good at singing, horseback riding and playing musical instruments.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Who exactly is she? Her description refers to her as "Our true love". Given that most collection entries that have some sort of perspective are from the King's point of view, it's been speculated she reminds the King of a younger version of the Queen. However, it has also been suggested that some of them may actually be written by the Prince, meaning she's his girlfriend. Given that her leaderboard description admits she's not actually a princess at all, both seem possible, and an image of her from Katamari Damacy Online shows her and the Prince Holding Hands while they're frolicking in a meadow, giving the second interpretation more credence.
  • Princess Classic: Is polite and formal, and her idle animation has her waving as if in a parade.
  • Princesses Prefer Pink: Wears a light pink dress.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Chocolate cake, but in Japan, it's gyoza.

Distant Cousins

Cousins introduced in Katamari Forever.
    Dangle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/52fc3e32_7a4b_43ea_a4d2_32d4c9881418.png

This cousin's extra-long arms hang off of his extra-long head; in fact, he walks on his hands, letting the rest of his body dangle beneath him and using his feet to roll the katamari. Dangle also keeps up the tradition of cousins who mimic the Prince's green-and-purple wardrobe while being distinctive enough to avoid getting mistaken for him... by anyone aside from the King, perhaps.

  • Dub Name Change: From Bran to Dangle, referring to how most of his body just... hangs underneath him.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: His arms are long and are on the sides of his head like Odeon, and he's got two antennae, with their stalks being green instead of yellow, and their bobbles being yellow instead of red.
  • Oddball Doppelgänger: The fact that his arms are on the sides of his head even makes him similar to Odeon, one of his fellow doppelgangers.

    Drive
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8a65650d_ae15_4839_8861_b15d7e157c95.png

A little orange car-cousin, Drive's face replaces his windshield. (Or should we say his windshield serves as his face?) Either way, this speedy cousin manages to control his katamari just fine by simply bumping into it.

  • Body Horror: That is, if he isn't some sort of machine like Nickel and is a wholly organic being. Especially since an actual wheel's a part of his body.
  • Dub Name Change: Like Dangle, had his name changed during the trip overseas — in his case, from Roger to the more unusual-sounding Drive.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: He's a car-shaped alien that's also a member of a cosmic royal family.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: He has a vehicular design instead of a humanoid one, his face is white instead of tan, and his antennae has a orange stalk with a yellow bobble instead of a yellow stalk with a red bobble.
  • Visual Gag: In snow-themed levels, his skis are placed on top of his head, like one would store them on an actual car when going on a trip.
