The Dokis

    General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_05_05_14_18_26_45.jpg
From Just Art's Instagram.

  • Four-Philosophy Ensemble: Sayori is the optimist, Natsuki is the cynic, Monika is the realist and Yuri is the conflicted.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: Sayori is Sanguine, Natsuki is Choleric, Monika is Melancholic and Yuri is Phlegmatic.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Yuri and Sayori are the nicest of the four, Natsuki is more prone to being a jerk and Monika is the middle ground.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Sayori and Natsuki are the red to Monika's and Yuri's blue.
  • Shipper on Deck: All of them seem to be this for Akito and Kenaki. Yuri, Sayori and Natsuki also support Monika's crush on Sono.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: They're prone to getting annoyed with each other as much as they care about each other's wellbeing.

    Monika

Monika Kobayashi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_20_18_53_01_94.jpg
"How is a narwhal documentary stressful?!"

  • Agent Scully: Evident in "Dokis in the dark" where she states that horror stories characters don't exist.
  • Animal Lover: Might be the case, given that she likes to watch documentaries on them (as she suggested they watch one on narwhals in "Sleepover").
  • Berserk Button: No one lays a finger on her club members!
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Monika's not above harming others should they provoke her in some way.
  • Brainy Brunette: The president of the club, generally tries to be the most organized and she has brownish hair.
  • Cowardly Lion: By her own admission, she's very easily scared, but she's demonstrated twice in the series that she's still willing to try and face whatever is terrorizing her.
  • Jerkass Ball: Yeah, her trolling of Yuri probably counts as holding this...
  • The Leader: As per usual.
  • Nice Girl: Not to the extent of Sayori and Yuri, but still very friendly and sweet.
  • Not So Above It All: She can still be dragged by the others into their shenanigans.
  • Only Sane Woman: In the zoom call video, she's the only one not goofing off and trying to do the club activities. It leads to her eventually growing tired and leaving.
  • Picky Eater: While discussing what they should order to eat, Monika manages to rebuff all of Natsuki's suggestions with variations of "too [adjective]".
  • Redhead In Green: She has brownish hair and mostly seen in green clothes.
  • Terrified of Germs: When Sayori opens the window for fresh air in "Car Ride", Monika tells her not to because that could bring in germs.
  • Troll: Does this to Yuri by essentially acting like Siri and refusing to answer her question.
  • Would Harm a Senior: Granted, said senior was being rude without a warrant. Monika ended up being mad and she kicked sand at the woman, but she quickly apologized.

    Natsuki

Natsuki Gushiken

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_20_18_55_08_95.jpg
"You dare challenge the almighty Natsuki to a rough house, mere mortal?"

  • Agent Mulder: Implied. She does say anything against paranormal activity, tries to recall a meeting she apparently had with the Boogeyman and even asks Yuri if they can actually summon the crooked man.
  • Berserk Button: A lot:
    • Don't cheat while playing videogames with her.
    • Don't make fun of her.
    • Don't challenge her desire to do anything.
  • Brutal Honesty: Natsuki does not mince words.
  • Competition Freak: She's the quickest to accept Yuki's challenge in Cupcakes Vs Muffins.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Natsuki has quite the sass on her.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has pinkish hair and she's very wild.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Natsuki is heroic in nature, but she's still the least tolerable of the four.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It doesn't take much to set her off.
  • Hates Being Called Cute: A trait carried over from the game. In "Summer Bummer", when Olivia tells her that Yuren ended their relationship because of her cutesy exterior, Natsuki rebuffs her and tells her that she's not cute and can become aggressive if she wanted.
  • Hypocritical Humor: She insists that Bluejay is being rude to her and chides him for talking to a customer impolitely, forgetting that she basically did a Bratty Food Demand while ordering.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Natsuki is the meanest of the bunch but she's still sweet overall.
  • Ms. Imagination: Not on the same level as Sayori, but her story in "A tale of excellence" is still pretty out there.
  • Never My Fault: She refuses to admit that it was her fault their food delivery was delayed because of her rude attitude.
  • Supreme Chef: Carried over from the game. Natsuki is excellent at baking.
  • Unsatisfiable Customer: To the point of being mistaken for a Karen.

    Sayori

Sayori Route

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_20_18_52_18_62.jpg
"Are you telling me there's no food?"

  • Agent Mulder: Implied to be this, as she suggests that the Boogeyman is lurking in the darkness with the girls.
  • Bad Liar: Hilariously so. She tries denying eating food in the zoom meeting then proceeded to chew very loudly. She also immediately tried to deny that she tried eating Yuri's leg even though she really tried a second before.
  • Beware the Nice Ones / Beware the Silly Ones: When push comes to shove, Sayori will become more serious.
  • Big Eater: Like in the game, Sayori is very fond of food and becomes sad whenever it's unavailable, even trying to take a bite of Yuri's leg.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: A very zany girl with a wild imagination.
  • The Cutie: When questioned about something cute to talk about, Sayori immediately points to herself and the other three seem to agree with her.
  • The Ditz: She's not an idiot. She's just sillier than all of her friends combined.
  • Fun Personified: Sayori is all about having fun no matter what the girls are doing.
  • Genki Girl: Very bouncy and energetic.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: The silliest and most lighthearted of the main cast, as well as the sweetest.
  • Lovable Coward: It's hard not to feel sorry for Sayori when she is scared.
  • Ms. Imagination: She seems to have an endless amount of ideas for stories.
  • Nice Girl: The nicest of the four. Best exemplified with her being the only one to try to be friendly with the Lub Dub Writing Club.
  • Official Couple: With Roy.

    Yuri

Yuri Kuroyanagi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_20_18_53_54_27.jpg
"Oh come on, it's not even that scary."

  • Adaptational Personality Change: Yuri is notably the only one of the four girls who has this. She's still nice and is a horror fanatic but she's not quite the Shrinking Violet and is as loud as the others. She's also the been the Only Sane Woman most of the time, getting fed up with her friends' antics in a bit of a Deadpan Snarker manner whereas in the original game, she could never pinch in their arguments due to her timidity.
  • Agent Scully: While an avid horror fan, Yuri doesn't believe in paranormal activity, as she agrees with Monika's stance on the existence of horror stories characters.
  • Berserk Button: Do not call her a raccoon!
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She got pissed off at Monika repeatedly mocking her to the point of resorting to physical violence.
  • Butt-Monkey: She tends to get the short end of the stick, from having Monika mocking her for amusement to getting volunteered against her will to face a creepy doll by herself.
  • The Conscience: She's especially forced to play this role to Natsuki whenever the latter is going overboard.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Someone in the comments of "THE DOLL" even points out how scared Yuri is of the titular object, despite being a horror fanatic.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Downplayed compared to other examples. In the zoom call, she briefly struggles with the camera and has to ask how to mute herself. This also might be the reason why she ended up filming herself without realizing in the movie shooting episode.
  • Literal-Minded: In "Car Ride", Yuri tries to stop Natsuki from looking through Kenaki's phone and demands Monika's help, who swiftly tell her to "tell [Natsuki] to keep his phone and call it a day". Cue Yuri repeating the phrase exactly as it was said, with Monika immediately lampshading this.
  • Nice Girl: Like Sayori, Yuri is very pleasant and kindhearted.
  • Nice to the Waiter: She lectures Natsuki on how important it is to be polite to customer service in "Order up!" and gives her a What the Hell, Hero? for not listening.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Carried over from the game. Despite being easily scared, Yuri suggests writing something scary in "A tale of excellence" and jokingly suggests trying to summon the crooked man in the power outage episode.
    • In "Sleepover!!", she's the only one not scared by the movie they're watching, even calling it weak.
  • Only Sane Woman: She and Monika tend to switch or share this role because sometimes Monika is Not So Above It All.
  • Shipping Torpedo: For her brother Yuren and his ex Olivia.
  • Team Mom: This is becoming her most seen side. She always sternly tells off her friends if they're going overboard and makes sure everyone is calm and pleased.
  • Throw the Book at Them: When pissed at Monika at the end of I'm sorry, please repeat that!.

    Natsuken

"Why would I need a reason to hang out?"
Natsuki's older brother.
  • Lethal Chef: In contrast to his sister Natsuki.
  • Mistaken Identity: In "Sleepover!!", the girls think that are some thugs broke into Natsuki's house and are planning to kidnap them because Sayori overheard Natsuken watch a movie and thought they were real. When Natsuken starts going downstairs and making noise, they mistake him for a thug and Sayori ends up hitting him with a pillow.
  • Nice Guy: A lot sweeter than Natsuki.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With his more outspoken sister.

Sayori's boyfriend.
  • Expy: In a way. He's supposed to be this universe's version of the MC in the original game.
  • The Klutz: Downplayed. He still messed up putting two eggs into a bowl, though.
  • Nice Guy
  • Official Couple: With Sayori.

    Jay "Bluejay" Reyes

Jay "Bluejay" Reyes

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_19_16_00_59_84.jpg
A TikTok celebrity who also works in a restaurant, apparently to keep his parents quiet because they believe being an online persona isn't a real job. He encounters the girls in "Order up!"
  • Deadpan Snarker: Very much so.
  • Famous for Being Famous: Not much was stated about his Instagram following or how he got it, though Monika implies that it's because of his looks and even then...
  • Jerkass Has a Point: He's just as rude to Natsuki as she is to him, but to be fair, she was the one who fired the first shot then acted like it was all his fault.
  • No-Sell: When Natsuki sends him a rather brutal reply (that Monika proposed, though she didn't really mean to), we see him simply saying "rude" in real life, then he continues burning Natsuki.
  • Troll: Starts delving into this to get back at Natsuki being rude to him.

    Mr. and Mrs. Tenshi

The Lub Dub Writing Club

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_19_16_06_27_04.jpg
From left to right: Jessica, Yuki, Naomi and Saki
Another literature-themed club that has similarities to the Dokis. They first appear in "Cupcakes Vs Muffins".

General

  • Beware the Nice Ones: All four of them are sweet but boy, are they something when they're mad.
  • Foil: While they are quite similar to the Dokis, every girl seems to differ from her counterpart:
    • Jessica is slightly more levelheaded than Monika as a leader.
    • Yuki appears to be more outspoken than Yuri.
    • Naomi is less quirky than Sayori.
    • Saki seems kinder than Natsuki.
    • As a group, they don't seem to have a Vitriolic Best Buds dynamic like the Dokis.
  • Mirror Character: Take a guess to whom.
  • Nice Girl: All of them, if people who bought from them are to be believed. They're decidedly less polite with the Dokis.note
  • The Rival: Their first appearance has them compete with the Dokis over who can sell more baked products before lunchtime.
  • Similar Squad: Much to the chagrin of the Dokis. Their looks are similar and both have a president who has the Odd Name Out.

Jessica

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_21_01_16_42_08.jpg
"We're not copying you, we just want people to eat healthy. Cause muffins are healthy!"
Monika's counterpart.
  • Brainy Brunette: She has brown hair and serves as the president of her club.
  • The Leader: This is a given since she's Monika's counterpart.
  • Not So Above It All: She tried to peacefully explain to the Dokis that she and her friends weren't copying them, but eventually succumbed to competition as well.

Yuki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_21_01_15_45_40.jpg
"Let's see how much we can sell before lunchtime."
Yuri's counterpart.

Naomi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_21_01_16_25_79.jpg
"Muffins are the definition of tasty!"
Sayori's counterpart.

Saki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_21_01_17_20_38.jpg
"Hey sir! Over here!"
Natsuki's counterpart.

    Olivia Stone

Olivia Stone

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_06_19_15_54_28_29.jpg
"Oh, I'm sorry. It was an accident."
Voiced By: Morgan Bug
Olivia is Yuren's ex, and she has a dislike for the Dokis, Natsuki in particular because she believes Yuren broke up with her because he thinks the former is cuter. She first appears in "Summer Bummer".
  • Big Bad: Of her debut episode. While her screentime is short, she still makes finding a spot on the beach harder for the girls.
  • The Bully: The creators revealed that she used to be this to Yuri before she started dating her brother. It's clear she hasn't grown out of this, judging from the first episode she appeared in.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Why she hates Natsuki. She believes there's something between her and Yuren. According to the creator, this is completely wrong and the real reason was because the relationship was too toxic.
  • Evil Redhead: A big jerk with red hair.
  • Faux Affably Evil: She'll occasionally speak in a friendly matter to mock the girls.
  • Jerkass: Big time.
  • Sinister Shades: She wore ones with a red color theme in her debut episode. The girls don't recognize her until she takes them off.
  • Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: Let's just say she wasn't very happy with Yuren dumping her.

     Sakura Fukumoto

Sakura Fukumoto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_08_15_18_33_31_50.jpg
"I don't know how much longer I can keep this up..."
Sakura is a high school student who goes to the same school as the Dokis. She also used to attend the same school as the lub dub writing club.

     Spoiler Character

The Demon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_08_15_18_36_52_20.jpg
From the creators' Instagram.
A man eating creature of unknown origin. It serves as the main antagonist in Sakura's storyline, as it is possessing her. It was also revealed by the creators that it was indeed the demon possessing the doll in the titular episode.
  • Arachnid Appearance and Attire: The demon takes on the shape of a spider.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: While it is not exactly a person, it was revealed by the creators that its first victim was a stray dog that died after it left its body.
  • Big Bad: The true antagonist of "The Doll" episode and of Sakura's storyline.
  • Dark Is Evil: It's a big monster seemingly made of black blob.
  • It Can Think: It's highly intelligent for an abomination of unknown origin.
  • Knight of Cerebus: A monster with a taste for human flesh. Nothing remotely funny about that.
  • Mind Rape: The demon can hurt Sakura both physically and mentally.
  • Multipurpose Tongue: It uses it to catch victims.
  • No Biological Sex: According to the creators, the demon has no gender.
  • To Serve Man: It feeds on human flesh.
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: It's probably the only real serious threat in this otherwise lighthearted take on DDLC.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's impossible to mention its existence without spoiling Sakura's whole story and the true nature of the doll.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Has no qualms about possessing Sayori or Sakura.
  • Would Hurt a Child: It constantly preys on teens, as it possessed Sakura and tried to do the same to Sayori.
