Main characters
Izuna
The main character of the series. She and her clan are ninjas without a master, who eventually find their way to Kamiari village in search of work. Izuna has mastered the use of swords, claws, and shurikens, but her attempts to seduce the locals leave a lot to be desired.
- Big Eater: She has quite the appetite, yet she can still retain her sexy figure...
- Cleavage Window: While she does wear a fishnet underlayer to her top, it's sufficiently see-through that between her scarf and her red top, you can see right through into her bosom.
- Driven to Suicide: Played for laughs; Izuna jokes about taking her own life with a fake pistol she carries as a prank or to trick people into getting what she wants. She gets called out by Shuuchi in the first game for trying pull this stunt on him. In the sequel, Izuna gets called out for it by Grimla during Izuna & Co.'s encounter with her, followed by Shizune promptly chewing her out for it in the proceeding cutscene.
- Fashionable Asymmetry: her leggings are thigh-length on one side only.
- Goggles Do Nothing: Given to her by Shino. Never once does Izuna put them on throughout the game, as they only give her a Cat Girl look.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: The whole reason she refuses to fight with long-ranged weapons. Similarly, she can also use claw weapons.
- Highly-Visible Ninja: She's a shinobi... with pink hair and a skimpy red outfit that features very see-through fishnets positioned strategically to show some cleavage.
- Idiot Hero: Between the irreverent way she banters with the Kami, fixates on eating whenever food is somehow relevant, and generally acts goofy and clingy (to Shino), she tends to give people the impression that Shino is the brains of their partnership. Nevertheless, she's willing to be a helpful person when she's needed.
- Ms. Fanservice: Especially in the promotional materials, which put emphasis on her figure and has her getting felt up by Shino and Shizune.
- Rose-Haired Sweetie: She has pink hair, and though her heroics sometimes blow up in the faces of her friends, she means well.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's the Red Oni to Shino's Blue Oni. She's a hotblooded Idiot Hero and braggart with a huge appetite, while Shino is The Stoic who rarely shows emotion.
- Small Name, Big Ego: Despite not having a proper employer, Izuna thinks she's hot stuff as a ninja.
- The Tease: She constantly flirts with the locals.
Shino
- A-Cup Angst: She's not particularly happy about her chest, especially since her own little sister beats her out in bust size.
- Berserk Button: Shino is quite aware of how unendowed she is. Anyone who attempts to remind her is threatened with a glimpse of Hell.
- Big Brother Instinct: The second game focuses on her and Izuna looking to save her sister.
- Hidden Eyes: Often seen when's reminded of being an ironing board.
- Kick Chick: One of the weapons she's proficient with is the combat boots.
- Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Shino has a paler complexion compared to Izuna and is a black-haired brunette.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Subverted since she's a rather nice person... unless you piss her off.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's the Blue Oni to Izuna's Red Oni. She's is The Stoic who rarely shows emotion, while Izuna is a hotblooded Idiot Hero and braggart with a huge appetite.
Mitsumoto
Another of Izuna's traveling companions. While competent in a fight, Mitsumoto has terrible luck in just about every social endeavor, as he is casually dismissed and ignored by friend and villager alike.
- Chew Toy: He is always either made a fool of by circumstance or ignored by the girls he tries to woo, and gets no respect from both Izuna and Shino.
- Hidden Eyes: His mask always covers them.
- Joke Character: Mitsumoto has some of the weakest stats of the playable characters, is not good with weapons, and his tag attacks harms him as well as the enemies.
- Lovable Sex Maniac: Mitsumoto is fond of flirting with beautiful women, even if they reject him.
- Master of None: In the second game, Mitsumoto can use any weapon and every character benefits from using a tag attack with him. He, however, gets no added benefits from using weapons, and takes damage whenever a tag attack is used.
- My Friends... and Zoidberg: He's either the last one to be mentioned (or outright left out!) when people talk about Izuna and her ninja companions.
- The Peeping Tom: He peeped on the girls while lounging in the hot springs in the second game, which he got caught, and how his true appearance was revealed from splashing him with the hot water.
- Pointless Band-Aid: After he has been unmasked, he has a white bandage taped over the bridge of his nose.
Gen-An
Izuna, Shino and Mitsumoto's mentor. Like Shino, he is able to keep his cool in many situations, owed to his many years of being a ninja. He gets the worst of the effects of the curse in the first game, but is able to survive thanks to Izuna's heroics.
- Distressed Dude: Ends up affected by the curse in the first game, and Izuna has to bail him out.
- Miniature Senior Citizens: He's rather shorter than Izuna, Shino, and Mitsumoto.
- Secret Character: He can be unlocked as a playable character in the sequel after clearing the game.
Shizune
- Cuddlebug: She's shown pouncing and snuggling Izuna a lot, or otherwise clinging to Shino, in official artwork.
- Marionette Master: Her best weapon class is the Doll. While she can use bows, she's not very good with them.
- Meido: She's regularly described as a maid in-game, although her clothes are rather more revealing than standard maid dresses. She also does some domestic work while looking for Shino, contributing her tailoring skills and cooking ability to Ichika's wedding.
- Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Similarly to her sister, Shizune has a pale skin-tone and a brunette with black hair.
- Scunthorpe Problem: Her name is rendered 'Sizune' or 'Sh*zune' in some forums and in particular on GameFAQs due to profanity filters catching the first four letters of her name.
- Token Mini-Moe: She's rather short compared to the rest of the ninja protagonists.
- Uncanny Family Resemblance: Apart from her larger bust, she's almost the spitting image of Shino with long, straight black hair, pale complexion, and red eyes.
NPCs
Ume
The elderly innkeeper. Oddly, she is the one person in all of Kamiari who seems to like Mitsumoto, which freaks him out.
- Inexplicably Identical Individuals: In Izuna 2, Izuna and the gang meet (at least two of) Ume's identical strangers, all of whom are also named Ume.

- Secret Character: She can join Izuna's party if players can complete the postgame No-Item Dungeon.
The Eastern Gods
Shuuchi
The Eastern God of Earth. He is the god closest to the people of the village, and helps teach young swordsmen. In the second game, he exclusively uses swords and armlets for equipment.
- Animal Motifs: A snake, fitting in with his Earth theme.
- Dishing Out Dirt: He's an Earth-elemental god.
- Iaijutsu Practitioner: His special attack in the first game shows that he uses this style of combat. This technique can be prevented if you knew where to be relative to him during said fight—just back up against a wall and his attack will be ineffective.
- Samurai: Shuuchi is an expert samurai and he specializes with katanas in the second game.
- Snake People: In his true form, most of his body is covered in scales, and he has a snake's tongue.
Fuuka
The Eastern Goddess of Wind, and reason. She is known for her quick temper.
- Animal Motifs: A bird, fitting in with her wind theme.

- Hair-Trigger Temper: Fuuka is usually a calm and collected goddess, unless someone finds a way to piss her off.
- Kick Chick:
- In the first game, her special attack is a kick that sends Izuna spinning, and causes confusion.
- In the second game, she is limited to using shoes as equippable weapons, unlike other characters, who can use at least two types.
- Wake-Up Call Boss: Contrast to Shuuchi, Fuuka can confusion on players with her Senpu Kick attack, causing to lose control of Izuna's direction.
Kagen
The Eastern God of Fire, and compassion, also known as the god of health.
- Animal Motifs: A bear, fitting with his fierce nature.
- Bears Are Bad News: He sports bear like claws and ears in his true form, and he can pack a punch to his enemies.
- Hot-Blooded: He's he has a fiery personality to go with his element.
- The Medic: Implied by his status as the god of health. His elemental orb helps heal sick people, and people with other ailments such as sore legs.
- Nice Guy: He really is quite nice under all his hot-bloodedness and arrogance. Being the god of health and compassion helps.
- Playing with Fire: Kagen's a Fire-elemental god.
- Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: One of his special attacks in the first game is a rapid series of claw stabs, with each hit dealing damage to Izuna.
- Wake-Up Call Boss: If Fuuka wasn't this for some, then Kagen would be for them, again mostly due to his special attack.
- Wolverine Claws: His weapon in both games. His special attack in the first game is a long chain of claw attacks that does a lot of damage, and one would be lucky enough to survive it.
Suiren
The Eastern Goddess of Water, and peace. She's skilled in the use of ranged ninja weapons and bows.
- Animal Motifs: A fish, and similarly also a mermaid, fitting in with her water theme.
- Bratty Half-Pint: Much of her and Izuna's conversations are the two throwing insults at one another.
- Kill It with Water: She's a Water goddess, and thus has water-based attacks.
- Our Mermaids Are Different: Her true form resembles a mermaid, complete with a fish's lowerbody and fish-like ears.
- Older Than They Look: Has it much more than other gods despite her young appearance.
- Making a Splash: She is a Water-elemental goddess.
Utsuho
The Eastern God of Air, and life. He is proficient in the use of most weapon classes excluding the sword.
- Green Thumb: His tag attack in the second game implies this.
- Pretty Boy: To the point where he looks like a girl. He used to attract many women in the past before a jealous villager started spreading a rumor that Utsuho was actually a girl.
Takushiki
The Eastern God of Consciousness, and master to the other five.
- Disproportionate Retribution: The champion of this.
- Jerkass Gods: The conflict of the first game starts out because Takushiki overreacted to Izuna's clan's defilement of the stone outside the village's temple. Once he's defeated, he has a Heel Realization, and apologizes.
The Western Gods
Baldur
The Western God of Light.
- Adaptational Ugliness: Baldur from Norse Mythology is the most beautiful of all the Norse deities. Here, he's a hulking brute of a man who resembles Alex Louis Armstrong and uses Hulk Speak to communicate.
- Hulk Speak: This is how he speaks in general.
Stella
The Western God of starlight.
Alte
The Western God of Moonlight.
Corona
The Western Goddess of Sunlight.
- Big Brother Instinct: Borders on this after her siblings had been "bullied" by Izuna and company.
