    The Demon Gazer (Signa)

The Demon Gazer

Race: Human
Class: Gazer
  • Amnesiac Hero: Starts the game with no memory of his past.
  • Fusion Dance: Can perform one with any demon partner to become one of 3 super modes. If fused with a Power based demon, he becomes "Dragon the StarTraitor", if fused with a Magic based demon, he becomes "Satan the DawnAbsolute", and if fused with a Skill based demon he becomes "Beast the BladeTyrant".
  • Harem Seeker: A Played for Laughs answer to one of the dialogue choices can have Signa express an interest in dating Muse and Prim at the same time.
  • Love Triangle: He's in the middle of one with Muse and Prim. The fact that they're two halves of the same soul either makes this simpler or more complex, depending on how you look at it.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: His starting weapon is a katana. So is the Astral Blade, and it's stronger form, the Star Blade.
  • Player Character: The lead party member, and only one who can never be swapped out.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Erik, AKA the fake Elicia, servant of From The Ergo.

    Muse

Muse

  • Ambiguously Evil: Muse is the leader of La Résistance, and definitely opposed to Magnastar's evil, but she also has a habit of talking like a super villain, and does a very bad job of convincing people she won't one day become evil herself.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Happens to her partway through the story when she's captured by Magnastar.
  • False Reassurance: When trying to convince the Revolutionist Party that she and Prim can't be servants of the Demon Lord, she says that they're harmless "for the time being". Her choice of words comforts no-one.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Unlike her sister, Muse can't sing to save her life.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: During a conversation about if the Revolutionist Party serves the Demon Lord, Muse says there's no way she and Muse could be their daughters. Since nobody had even raised that possibility, it basically confirms it for everyone.

    Prim

Prim

  • Cast from Hit Points: Suffers this as a result of singing Starlita. As the living incarnation of the song, the more she sings it, the closer she comes to becoming the song entirely, erasing her soul in the process.
  • Cessation of Existence: She's told this could happen to her if she sings Starlita too much. Fortunately averted.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She sings to revive the Demon Gazer just before the final boss fight, even knowing that he soul is at its limit. Averted, though, thanks to Prometh realising they can exchange her power of song instead.
  • Luminescent Blush: One of her facial expressions. Tends to show up when she's having moments with the Demon Gazer.
  • Nice Girl: Prim is always polite and kind to the people around her.

    Cassel

Cassel Glondike

  • The Lancer: Winds up filling this role to the Demon Gazer at times, being the most likely to come to his assistance for a variety of tasks.
  • Only Sane Man: Between the varied personalities of the Revolutionary Party, he often had to fill this role.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Dark blue.

    Prometh

Prometh

  • False Reassurance: When the rest of the party is uncertain if they can trust Muse and Prim, because they might have a connection to the Demon Lord, Prometh says they'll be fine, "More or less. Roughly speaking".
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Like the first game, Prometh has a habit of wandering around without getting fully dressed first.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She collects skulls as a hobby.
  • The Smart Guy: Prometh has a vast amount of knowledge on many subjects, making the rest of the group often turn to her for answers. This may also be why Elicia seems to purposefully avoids her in her Erik guise. Prometh only learns Erik a day before she reveals herself, never actually meets her, and still manages to give explanations for parts of her plan.
  • Sound-Effect Bleep: Non-curse example. When she says the Demon Lord's name, it's censored. Also happens in-universe, as Toma comments on it being censored.
  • The Stoic: Much like before, Prometh doesn't emote much, keeping a neutral expression and a monotone voice.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Light blue, specifically.

    Lezerem

Lezerem Rantile

  • Butt-Monkey: Just like in the first game, nothing really goes well for Lezerem.
  • Distressed Dude: Gets arrested partway through the game. The party eventually rescues him, completely by accident.
  • Fan Disservice: Like in the first game, he enjoys taking his clothes off. Unfortunately, he's seriously let himself go since then.
  • Groin Attack: Muse gives him one after his creation of the Breathing Veil causes an explosion in the shower (and for then being naked in-front of her).
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: The revolutionaries can best be described as tolerating Lezerem's presence, and only because he's useful in maintaining the radio.

    Toma

Toma

  • Distressed Dude: Get imprisoned early in the game for trying to assassinate Magnastar. The party needs to break him out of prison.
  • Nice Guy: Toma is one of the friendliest and most polite characters in the game, including to the various recruited demons. One of the best examples is him organising a birthday party for Draco in her final date event, in an attempt to help her overcome her self hatred. It works.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Very light blue.
  • You Killed My Father: Has a grudge against Magnastar for the death of his family.

    Gary

Gary

  • Eye-Obscuring Hat: Or rather, helmet. It casts a shadow over his eyes.
  • Like a Son to Me: Or daughter in this case. He's known Prim, Musa and presumably the Demon Gazer since they were kids. He admits to seeing Muse like a daughter when expressing concern for her, and we can assume this extends to Prim and maybe the Demon Gazer as well.

    Zabu

Zabu

  • Cowardly Lion: To an extent. Despite his nerves, he is loyal to the Revolutionary Party, and helps them with tasks that could get him arrested or killed.
  • Eye-Obscuring Hat: Like Gary, his eyes are hidden by a shadow cast by his hat.
  • Nervous Wreck: Downplayed. Having just gotten out of prison, Zabu is much more meek and nervous than the rest of the Revolutionist Party, but is still able to do his part to help them.

The Demons

    In General

The Demons

  • Familiar: Can be viewed as such. After they're defeated, they become bound to the Demon Gazer and fight alongside him.
  • Freudian Trio: While they don't share much screen time together, the three Questors have this dynamic. Cygnus is the logical Superego, Centaur is the more impulsive Id, and Draco is the more balanced Ego.
  • Heel–Face Turn: All of them start off as enemies on Magnastar's side. Defeating and absorbing them with the Demon Gaze turns them into your party members, after they're reincarnated at Stella's Place.
  • Optional Party Member: Since certain plot events unlock based on how many demons you have, rather than unlocking specific ones, some of the later demons technically fall under this. This is most true for Scorpio and Aquarius, who don't have designated areas, and could more easily be missed, especially since the quests for unlocking them give no indication that they're even there until you find them.
  • Theme Naming: All of the demons are named after constellations.

    Pegasus

Pegasus

Race: Migmy
Class: Paladin
  • Big Brother Worship: After switching to the revolutionaries side, she views the Demon Gazer as her big brother, and is very devoted to him.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: She views Magnastar as her papa, and eagerly fulfils her duties for him. Averted after the tutorial and her switching sides.
  • Family of Choice: The Demon Gazer's solution to Peg's distress about not having a family? Declare that the two of them are family. Peg is ecstatic.
  • Ghost Memory: In her third date event, she expresses sadness at not being able to find her parents. The captions make it clear that she, as a demon, doesn't have any parents, and is instead being influenced by the souls she's made out of.
  • Neat Freak: Peg loves for things to be clean, and will clean up after others if she thinks they're not doing it themselves.
  • Obliviously Evil: During her time with Magnastar, it's pretty clear she doesn't understand that what she's doing is wrong.
  • Perky Female Minion: Was this when working for Magnastar.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Peg looks like a small child, but is a powerful demon, with a focus on physical durability and strength.
  • Redemption Demotion: Inverted. Peg as a villain is the boss of the tutorial, easily beaten by the player. As a party member, she's capable of growing far more powerful.
  • Token Mini-Moe: One of the smaller cast members.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Peg is fought at the end of the tutorial, so she's not hard to beat.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Pale blue.

    Capricorn

Capricorn

Race: Human
Class: Lancer

    Libra

Libra

Race: Elf
Class: Sage
  • Black-and-White Morality: Discussed. She admits to feeling anxious if things don't fit into this kind of system during her third date event.
  • Blind Without 'Em: Libra can't see at all without her glasses, as proven when she tries to go without them during her second date event.
  • Born Unlucky: Libra believes herself to be unlucky, and her date events do little to discourage this. In a minor case of gameplay and story integration, her Luck stat starts off as one of her lowest (alongside Strength).
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: After she joins your team, her date events present her as this, with her actions having a habit of backfiring on her.
  • Epic Fail: Her first date event has her try to attack a shower with a lightning spell. It just goes right through the pipes and back at her, knocking her out.
  • Granola Girl: Subdued example. She loves nature, and feels more modern advancements are a sign of humanity's downfall. Her attempts to express this rarely end well for her.
  • Love Confession: Essentially what happens at the end of her final date event, with her claiming her "heart is leaning towards" the Demon Gazer.
  • No Cure for Evil: Averted. Libra can cast a basic healing spell during her boss fight.
  • The Red Mage: In terms of magic, Libra learns a mix of attack, healing and support. This means that using her full potential might be harder than some other magic users, since she needs both high Intelligence and Mysticism to benefit all of her spells.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: Can learn light and dark based magic.

    Leo

Leo

Race: Ney
Class: Swordmaster

    Cygnus

Cygnus

Race: Human
Class: Healer
  • Big Eater: Cygnus not only orders multiple dishes worth of food, but eats half of the Demon Gazer's meal on the pretence of checking for poison.
  • No Cure for Evil: Averted. As a character focussed on support, Cygnus displays healing abilities during her boss fight.
  • The Comically Serious: Cygnus handles everything she does with complete seriousness, even when it really doesn't call for it.
  • The Spock: Cygnus leans heavily towards logical thought. This can cause her to overanalyse certain situations, such as how best to be the Demon Gazer's friend when asked.
  • The Stoic: Cygnus rarely shows much emotion.

    Centaur

Centaur

Race: Elf
Class: Siren
  • Butt-Monkey: Unlike her fellow Questors, Centaur is often treated by the narrative as not very smart or lucky, with even the build-up to her boss fight being treated as more comedic, due to her poor planning.
  • Cast from Hit Points: She has a flaw in her soul that causes repeated singing to negatively affect her memory and health. Doing it too often could lead to her being rendered comatose if the fault isn't fixed.
  • Death of Personality: The reason she resists getting her soul fixed is that it risks erasing her memories. Since those shaped who she is, she compares it to dying.
  • Forgetful Jones: Centaur's date events establish her having terrible memory, forgetting things she said or did the same day they happened.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: Played with. By her own admission, she wasn't a very good singer to start with, but practised and worked hard to become a fully fledged songstress by her own merits. Unfortunately, since she wasn't made to handle Starlita's power, repeated singing of it can lead to damage to her soul.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Of the various characters, her design is possibly the most sexualised, with a ridiculously low cut top and exposed midriff, and at least one NPC comments on the size of her "cans".
  • Pungeon Master: Loves puns and wordplay.
  • Sweet Tooth: Talks about how much she loves sweets in her second date event.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Bright pinkish purple.

    Draco

Draco

Race: Ney
Class: Dragoon
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Exploring Asteria Castle and finding her old room will reveal she owns one based on a red dragon. She calls it Redra, and would keep it in her bed. Collecting it lets you use it as furniture that boosts Strength, Vitality and Agility.
  • I Am a Monster: She has a lot of guilt for the number of people she's killed in her past, to the point of wanting the Demon Gazer to kill her, and outright trying to kill herself after that fails.
  • I Choose to Stay: With some prodding, and being shown by the rest of Stella's Place how much they appreciate her, Draco is able to see that she belongs with them by the end of her date events. Reinforced if you choose to meet her after the final boss, where she stresses that being by the Demon Gazer's side is important to her.
  • Interrupted Suicide: During her third date event, she tries to slit her own throat after realising the Demon Gazer won't kill her. He stops her.
  • Suicide by Cop: A variation is attempted. She trains with the Demon Gazer, making a big deal about neither of them holding back. She actually intends for him to kill her in the attempt. Naturally, this doesn't work, and neither does her attempt to slit her own throat afterwards.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Of the three Questors, Draco is the most masculine, being a fighter specialising in heavy weapons with a serious personality. She also keeps a stuffed toy dragon, which she makes a point of retrieving when finding her old room in the casle.

    Pavo

Pavo

Race: Ney
Class: Thief
  • I Am a Monster: Since she learned she's made of sacrificed souls, she's come to view her very existence as a crime.
  • Karmic Thief: Pavo views thievery as her only skill that's useful to the Demon Gazer. Since she knows he wouldn't approve of her stealing from the innocent, she targets criminals instead.
  • Wolverine Claws: Has a weapon in this shape in her demonized form.

    Lepus

Lepus

Race: Human
Class: Ranger
  • Gyaru Girl: Has this aesthetic.
  • Miss Conception: Thinks that kissing leads to pregnancy, so she's shocked to see a couple kiss in public.
  • Valley Girl: Acts like one, regardless of what side she's on at the time.

    Scorpio

Scorpio

Race: Human
Class: Scout
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: Fitting for a scorpion themed demon, she has one. It's most obviously seen in her demonized form, and it's powerful enough to knock the Demon Gazer out with a single prick in her first date event.
  • Christmas Cake: Has some concerns about being older than the Demon Gazer's interests in her third date event, not helped by someone thinking he's her "kid brother".
  • Secret Character: No indication is given that she exists, or even that the quest to find her is available, unless the player decides to check the showers after a certain, unspecified point in the story.
  • Sensual Spandex: The bottom half of her outfit seems to be this, given that it clings so tightly to her that you can see her belly button through it.
  • Stalker with a Crush: She's introduced stalking Toma. When confronted, she admits to wanting to make him into her pet, since she thinks he's cute. She switches her focus to the Demon Gazer after joining the party.

    Aquarius

Aquarius

Race: Migmy
Class: Charmer
  • The Alcoholic: Aquarius enjoys liquor very much. The player even meets her because she's trying to find a rare "Regal Sake".
  • Dissonant Serenity: In her third date event, she describes having kidnapped sailors to learn about love, and then drowning them when she didn't learn anything from them. She says this all very casually.
  • Manchild: Despite her claims of being an adult, Aquarius can act very childishly. For example, she throws a tantrum in her first date event when she feels the Demon Gazer is leaving her alone to spend time with Pegasus.
  • Older Than They Look: Unlike the other Migmy characters, who never talk about their age, Aquarius claims to be an adult, despite looking like a child. She also claims there's a reason for how she looks, and that it's not a choice on her part.
  • Reincarnation: While all demons are reincarnated once the player defeats them, Aquarius is the only one to claim that she was alive before coming to Asteria, with the Star Power of the land drawing her in during one of her reincarnations.
  • Secret Character: Like Scorpio, no indication is given about Aquarius existing, unless you decide to randomly check the tavern once her quest is available, without the game telling you there's a new quest there.

    Taurus

Taurus

Race: Dwarf
Class: Dark Knight
  • Badass Beard: The thickest beard in the cast.
  • Barbarian Longhair: Has flowing hair, fitting for his strong image.
  • Big Eater: Believes that meat is all you need, and eats a lot of it, even ordering a steak as a dessert.
  • Born in the Wrong Century: Believes this about himself. He feels he would have better fit in during a time of great war.
  • Graceful Loser: In his final date event, Taurus takes his draw against the Demon Gazer in stride, complimenting the tactics he used, and finally accepting the Demon Gazer as his master and friend.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Both an example and a believer in this trope. He regularly speaks about the importance of muscle, and finds the Demon Gazer's lack of them shameful.
  • Sour Supporter: Unlike most other demons, Taurus is not happy to serve the Demon Gazer. This is because he views the Demon Gazer as weak, and is frustrated about losing to someone he views as weaker than himself. Naturally, this gets resolved by the end of his date events.

    Canis

Canis

Race: Dwarf
Class: Monk

    Vulpecula

Vulpecula

Race: Migmy
Class: Conjurer
  • In the Hood: Wears one in both his normal and Demonized forms.
  • Social Darwinist: In a way. He thinks that life is all about being self reliant and cutting people loose if they're causing a problem. He even acts surprised and annoyed when the Demon Gazer bails him out of trouble, because it goes against his worldview.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Fitting of his focus on magic, he has bright gold eyes.

    Hydra

Hydra

Race: Human
Class: Ninja
  • Black Eyes of Evil: He has black eyes in his demonized form. Drops the evil part when he joins your party.

    Aries

Aries

Race: Elf
Class: Priest
  • Berserk Button: Being interrupted while he's reading. In his first date event, he specifically asks you to do this, so he can try to control his temper. It doesn't work.
  • Mood-Swinger: Aries is usually calm and friendly, but he admits to having a short fuse, which can cause him to angrily snap at those around him if provoked. He wants to work on this.

    Cancer

Cancer

Race: Human
Class: Dancer
  • Downloadable Content: In the original Japanese release, the chapter she was introduced in was DLC, making her this. In the Western release, the content was free, but still relegated to the post game.

Magnastar's Faction

    Magnastar

Sirius Magnastar

  • Affably Evil: During the player's first meeting with him, he's genuinely cheerful, polite and fond of reminiscing on his more humble past and lost daughter. Of course, he's still guilty of various evil acts leading up to the start of the game.
  • The Atoner: His biggest regret, and his motivation for all that he's done istrying to resurrect his daughter from the dead, and seeing what kind of monster it let into the world.
  • Big Bad: The main opponent that the revolutionaries are trying to overthrow.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: His left eye has black sclera and a gold pupil.
  • Cool Shades: He wears them while outside, presumably to hide his eye.
  • Dying Declaration of Love: Familial example. He spends his last moments reaffirming that he still loves his daughter.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Or rather, had. He loved his daughter Elicia, but she passed away a long time ago.
  • Fatal Family Photo: Not the cause of it, but he is holding a picture of his daughter when he dies.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He was once little more than a travelling performer. Now he's the ruler of an entire city built on sacrificing people.
  • Go Out with a Smile: The last shot of him is his body smiling, having shut down the Astral Furnace, and holding a picture of his daughter.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Everything about Magnastar traces back to his failed attempt to revive his beloved daughter from the dead, and the consequences of that decision.
  • More than Mind Control: How his powers work, basically sealing away the mind of the victim and making them susceptible to commands.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: All that he's done has been the result of having this reaction to attempting to revive his daughter...and getting a monster wearing her face instead.
  • Not Me This Time: Despite what various characters think, he is not responsible for Milda's death. He legitimately did want to talk with her about what was going on, but for her plan to work, Elicia killed her. Muse and Prim think he killed her, and it's a big part of their motivation to start the Revolutionist Party.
  • One-Winged Angel: For his boss fight, he channels Star Power from his pendant to transform into an imposing, demonic form.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Ultimately, a major part of the plot could have been avoided if he'd been able to convey who his true enemy was to the Revolutionary Party, instead of assuming that they're one and the same.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: His accusation that the Revolutionist Party are being manipulated. He suspects they're servants of the demon lord, but they're actually being manipulated by Elicia, who has no connection with the demon lord. Amusingly, Muse and Prim are the daughters of the demon lord, so he was close to being right in another way.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: His left eye has a bright gold pupil.
  • Villain Has a Point: One of his comments about the Revolutionary Party is that they're being manipulated. While he's wrong about who's doing the manipulating, he's right that they're being used for someone else's evil plan.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Ultimately, he's trying to prevent an evil god from entering the world, but his methods are questionable, since he can't bring himself to actually kill the fake Elicia.

    Erik

Erik

  • The Chessmaster: Erik might not seem like a great planner, but don't be fooled. Basically the entire game happens because of her plans to pit the Demon Gazer against Magnastar.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Erik is a foil in some ways to Lu Lunark, AKA Luna, from the first game. Both are antagonists masquerading as allies to the Demon Gazer, before revealing their villainous sides. However, Luna was standoffish even while pretending to be an ally, while Elicia presented a friendly, affable personality. Luna's treachery also happened sooner, and lead to a full boss fight, while Elicia's was only revealed near the end of the game, and she died unfought.
  • Defector from Decadence: Is offering the revolutionist party information about Magnastar's plans, and even gave the Demon Gazer his powers to help them oppose him. Though it's a bit more complicated than that.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Erik is not above trickery to achieve his goals. Including tricking the Revolutionist Party for her actual goals.
  • Mystical White Hair: Fitting for Erik's role as an Astral Soul Magician, he has pure white hair.
  • No Sense of Direction: No matter where Erik is trying to go, he'll get lost every time.
  • Samus Is a Girl: It's revealed late game that Erik is actually, Elicia, a failed attempt to revive Magnastar's daughter.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When the Revolutionary Party decide to be arrested without a fight, and leave the rest of the fight to the citizens of the city, Erik decides to leave and do his own thing, clearly not agreeing with the idea.
  • The Unfought: Erik ,or rather, Elicia, vanishes when Magnastar shuts down the Astral Furnace. Since this is just after the reveal of her true identity and motivation, the player doesn't get a chance to fight her for all that she's done.
  • Walking Spoiler: You may have noticed that it's hard to talk about Erik without brining up that she's actually Elicia (or rather, a servant of From The Ergo in Elicia's body), and the true Big Bad.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Comes up when the Demon Gazer defeats Magnastar. Since their goals no longer align, Elicia no longer needs them.

Others

    Elicia

Elicia Magnastar

  • Nice Girl: Every indication is that she was a warm, good hearted person. The brief glimpse of her we see suggests she was very different from the fake Elicia.
  • Posthumous Character: She's been dead for some time.

    The Great Will (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

From The Ergo

  • Eldritch Abomination: It is some kind of god from outside the world, and doesn't belong here.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: It is the master of Elicia, and therefor the true villain of the game, but only appear for the final boss fight.
