    Tiko

Tiko

voiced by Robert Tinkler.

Tiko

The true main antagonist of season one, a Golden/Aurelus Bakugan with the ability to corrupt Core Cells, humans, and Bakugan to fight for him. He first appeared in the episode "Midsummer Nightmare".

  • Actual Pacifist: It is revealed that his current status was actually as a result of a misguided attempt to stop Bakugan from fighting all the time.
  • Antagonist Abilities: Included, but not limited to; shapeshifting, mind control, being able to possess people and drain away the energy of Bakugan.
  • Arch-Enemy: Tiko has a personal vendetta against Pyravian and Drago, the former for constantly interfering in his attempts for conquest, the latter stemming from Drago stopping his previous attempts as Maximus Dragonoid in the past and losing to current Drago during Drago's Hyper Evolution in the Maze.
  • Big Bad: The main villain of season 1. While staying in the shadows in the first half, once he gets more active, all the former Big Bads are either under his control or forced to combat him and ally with the heroes for survival.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The V-Virus he creates infects humans and Bakugan to fight for him and he can control them like puppets and pawns. To further his power, he often selects a single host to do this, first starting with Magnus, then to Benton. Doing so, he can also remove his free will, which is what he did to Tripp after the latter requested to hold onto Lupitheon.
  • The Corrupter: Using the V-virus, he can brainwash both people and Bakugan to do his bidding.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Once defeated, he tells the Awesome Ones to take care of their bond with their Bakugans. Upon Haavik attempting to use his attempt at taking over both Earth and Vestroia as fodder for Tiko's ill will to control him and merge him with Sabrus... Tiko point blank rejects it and even manages to fight for a small bit on the Awesome Brawlers' side, thanks to Haavik having shared some of his power with him beforehand. Dan and Drago's brawl with him did more good than anticipated.
  • Eldritch Abomination: His true form is a giant, writhing mass of darkness.
  • Expy: His appearance seems to be based on the mythical Baphomet. See also Satanic Archetype.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: It is revealed that the V-virus is in fact a failed attempt by him to create something that would give his planet energy without having Bakugan fight and hurt each other all the time.
  • Invincible Villain: He corners the AO at every turn, to the point where they almost give up entirely.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The moment Tiko enters the plot, all laughs and jokes cease, plots start taking a darker turn, and allies begin to fall one by one.
  • Manipulative Bastard: After taking control of Benton's body, he gains complete control of Benton's intelligence. Combined with his menace, Tiko is able to fool the public into seeing Bakugan as the enemy, tricking the public into stealing Bakugan from the supporting cast, slowly brainwashing allies to infiltrate opponents, and stopping the Awesome Ones from every possible opportunity of success.
  • Maniacal Laugh:
  • Olympus Mons: Like all Golden Bakugan, this applies to him as well.
  • One-Winged Angel: He assumes his true form when facing Dragonoid Maximus.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Downplayed. After his defeat, he goes into a deep hibernation mode, but just before he disappears, he can be heard telling the Awesome Ones to continue living in peace with their Bakugan.
  • Sweet Tooth: Develops a huge craving for sweets, especially donuts after hijacking Benton's body, which he constantly eats even when manipulating heinous actions.
  • Toyless Toyline Character: Despite his major role as Big Bad of the first season, no physical Tiko Bakugan exists.

Kazami International Holdings

    In General
A computer technology firm based in Japan, founded by Shun's grandfather and currently run by his father, the company now seeks to expand into using Bakugan to make money, thus making them the Awesome Ones enemy.

Ichiro Kazami

The CEO of Kazami International Holdings and Shun's father, his goal is to profit off Bakugan.

  • Abusive Parents: apparently to the point that Shun literally runs away from home. He seemingly subverts this by allowing Shun to stay with the AOs, but immediately reveals he only let him stay so he can gather more information on the Bakugan.
    • When Shun refuses to comply with his orders to return to Japan, he disowns him.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In the episode "Greatest of the Kazami."
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: He is the CEO of his company and a supporter to AA Animus.
  • Only in It for the Money: Quite so. Everything he does in the series, according to him, is to advance his company.
  • Perpetual Frowner: The only time we ever see him smile was a fake one. He does smile in a twisted way whilst under Tiko's control, but it takes until the threat is removed for him to finally give a genuine, thankful smile to his son.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After Tiko's defeat, he recovers in a hospital and once released, temporarily quits his job to do volunteer work, leaving Masato in charge. By the time he returns, he's become a kinder and more loving father and uncle.

    Masato Kazami

Masato Kazami

voiced by Jeff Yung

Masato Kazami

Masato is Shun's older cousin and a cunning, ruthless person. His main Bakugan is Serpenteze.

  • Arch-Enemy: to Shun.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He gives one to Shun in the episode "Shun Shine."
  • The Dragon: He is this to Ichiro. He is tasked with bringing Shun back to Japan.
    • Dragon with an Agenda: His real goal, however, is to get Shun out of the way so he can become the Kazami family heir.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After getting lost in the Maze for years, he sees the error of his ways, befriends Serpenteze and decides to help the Awesome Ones save earth and Vestroia.
  • I Am Not My Father: His driving motivation is to not end up like his father, who failed the company in a big way and got fired.
  • Laughing Mad: He shows signs of this in his debut episodes.
  • Making a Splash: He is an Aquos Battler who wields the quick and unpredictable Serpenteze.
  • Sanity Slippage: This happens to him in episodes 61 to 64.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: By the second season and beyond, he's on much more amiable terms with his uncle and cousin. Though it's not all there as he disregards the need for Bakugan brawling during the third season (in spite of the problems it'd cause), he comes to learn how important the bond between Bakugans and humans is, especially after Serpenteze and Sharktar help him on separate occasions.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Witnessing his Serpenteze's power up close is what motivates our heroes to get their Bakugan to evolve.
  • Walking the Earth: Technically, walking the Maze, which is what he did for ten years straight.

Toshi

Toshi is the main Kazami family aide. He was the previous owner of Fade Ninja and Vicerox before gifting both to Shun. His current main Bakugan is Aquos Garganoid.

Minor Villains

    Marco Chezanello

Marco Chezanello

voiced by Francesco Antonio

Marco Chezanello

Marco Chezanello is a minor antagonist who makes his debut in the episode "Bully for You". He is the towns local bully and is a general purpose asshole. His main Bakugan was formerly Cyndeous before his Heel–Face Turn. His current Bakugan is Grizzly.

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He and two other goons vs Dan's Cyndeous. Cyndeous takes them all down in one blow each.
  • Demoted to Extra: While Marco *Took a Level in Kindness in Armored Alliance, his screen time was also greatly reduce having jut a couple of speaking lines and cameos, with Trey and the Baku rocker taking his place as the "neighborhood level rival".
  • Fat Bastard: He's fat, and he's an unlikable jerk
  • Jerkass: to the core. He takes advantage of Cyndeous' lack of knowledge of human society to use him to bully people. He drives the Rowdy reds out of their park and claims it as his own. He constantly cheats and makes use of dirty tactics in battle, to the point where Cyndeous is fed up with him, and he even attempts to KILL the Awesome Ones.
  • Took A Levelin Kindness: By Armored Alliance, while still pushy and with a huge ego, Marco seems to be a little bit more humble, even being friendly with the kids he used to bully around.
  • Royal Brat: He comes from a wealthy family, and when he drives the Rowdy reds out of their park, he calls the place his "kingdom"
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He doesnt seem to be the best brawler, having really predectible tactics. Once he lost Cyndeous (a really powerfull bakugan) and replace it with the weaker Gryzzly, Marco couldnt manage to get even one clean win for the rest of the season.

    Duran Dane

Duran Dane

voiced by Tony Babcock

Duran Dane

Duran first appears in the episode "Babysitting Bedlam" pretending to be a spoiled rich kid, when he was actually hired by Benton to test the Awesome Ones. His main goal is to be famous. His Bakugan is Pyrus Nobillious.

  • Cheaters Never Prosper: in "Bad Actors" he has his Bakugan feign weakness in order to have Dan let his guard down so he can win. Naturally, it backfires.
  • Fiery Redhead: He has red hair, and he uses fire Bakugan.
  • Glory Hound: He was willing to cheat in order to beat Dan and become famous.
  • Idiot From Osaka: In the Japanese dub, he speaks with a Kansai accent after he drops his rich kid facade. Slightly subverted in that he is by no means an idiot.
  • Master Actor: In his debut episode, he pretends to be a spoiled rich kid. Then in the episode "Bad Actors" he pretends to be a starstruck fan when in reality he just wanted to beat Dan and make himself famous.
  • Playing with Fire: He uses Pyrus Bakugan.
  • Sore Loser: When he and Nobillious lose a style contest, he wastes no time in starting a brawl to demand a recount.

    Lord Brakken

Lord Brakken

voiced by Blake Johnston

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1280px_the_face_of_lord_brakken.jpg
Lord Brakken

Lord Brakken is the ruler of a small country called Brakkistan and a huge fan of the Awesome Ones. His main Bakugan is Ventus Trunkanious and he also owns Haos Zentaur.

  • Always Someone Better: He comes to realize in his first episodes that he's not the strongest battler thanks to Lia defeating him. True to his promise, he actually improves a bit in Armored Alliance.
  • Affably Evil: He is rather courteous to the AO at first. Even after his Heel–Face Turn, he's mostly respectful and likable barring his ego at times.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: He becomes obsessed with Lia, culminating in him asking for her hand in marriage in exchange for releasing her friends.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: According to him, this is how he earned the title "Super Supreme Battle King."
  • Defeat Means Friendship: After losing to Lia, he realizes the error of his ways.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: He uses a Ventus Bakugan.
  • Fanboy: Another fanboy of the Awesome Ones. He even has statues of them.
  • Light 'em Up: He uses a Haos Bakugan.
  • Red Baron: the Super Supreme Battle King. Too bad he doesn't live up to the name.
  • Royal Brat: To the core. He throws one of his attendants into the dungeons for stepping on his shadow.
  • Unrequited Love: He has a massive Lia Venegas. He even has a painting of her done in the style of "Venus rising from the sea." The two remain good friends though. While under Tiko's control, he also pursues Riot who's mostly in for the royalty status. Later seasons get poor Athena and Crystal Blue involved as well. Though the former isn't interested in the slightest, Crystal Blue is implied to consider it by the end of his Evolutions return.

Introduced in Armored Alliance/Season 2

    Trey

Trey

voiced by Amos Crawley

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_2_033.jpeg
Trey

Trey "Chess Champion Extraordinaire" is the younger, smarter brother of one of the Awesome Brawlers biggest rivals, Aay. Trey is a champion chess player which helps him with his strategic brwling style and beating his partners. He may look like Brainiac but don't get distracted by his appearance because this guy knows how to take down his opponent. He can't wait to prove that he's a more formidable foe than his older brother.

  • Advertised Extra: Early promotional material of Armored Alliance portrays Trey as a recurrent rival in the same vein of his brother Aay, when in reality, Trey just has a significant role in the first few episodes of the season (taking Marco's role as the resident neighborhood rival ), remaining as a small recurring character until around the midpoint, once he lost his Mantonoid to Haavok. Trey just got small almost silent cameos ever since then and never got a Big Damn Heroes moment, unlike his brother's at the end of Battle Planet. His last relevant appearance during Legends does at least inspire Dan to find his Nova Technique, not unlike his debut in helping Dan unlock Baku-Gear.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: He wears a green sweater, signifying his main faction; Ventus
    • Also, the shirt he wears underneath is patterned like a chessboard.
  • Brutal Honesty: He says he wants to make his brother's dreams come true... after stating how dumb Aay is and how unlikely he is to get a girlfriend among other insults. Aay is thankful for the intention but finds himself pained by the remarks regardless.
  • The Chessmaster: Literally and figuratively. Trey is a champion at chess and views Bakugan battles as such. He takes all factors into consideration: HP levels, his opponent's battling style, personality etc, when other Brawlers to manipulate the odds in his favor.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's a better brawler than his brother largely due to his smarts.
  • Graceful Loser: In contrast to Aay and the EXIT, he finds each defeat a way to improve, even if he does get upset at not being able to fulfill Aay's dream at the league.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: While his older brother, Aay, is a tough looking hipster-like character who is not very smart, Trey is a small, harmless-looking nerd with the brains to match.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses
