Haavik

Haavik

The primary antagonist of Armored Alliance. He is a mysterious alien who crash-landed on Earth and seeks to cause mayhem and destruction before deciding to destroy the planet, along with Vestroia.
  • Adopt-a-Servant: Once Dan is brainwashed into joining him, he and Haavik refer to each other as "brothers".
  • Affably Evil: He is rather courteous to our heroes most of the time, even as he plots to destroy the whole world.
  • Aliens Are Bastards: He is an alien who wants to destroy the whole world for funsies.
  • All Your Colors Combined: His signature Fusion Bakugan, Sabrus (Sabra in the toy sales), is comprised of five factions and can use abilities from all of them.
  • Always Chaotic Evil: Haavik wants nothing more than to bring chaos and destruction wherever he goes, and for no apparent reason, referring to it as his "ultimate show".
  • Ax-Crazy: He often cackles madly during battles, not to mention he gets excited at the thought of mass destruction.
  • Berserk Button: Haavik really gets mad when people "ruin his fun". Which is to say, when anyone interrupts the chaos he's causing. Ironically, Dan doing that earns him Haavik's interest instead of any proper anger or resentment, being impressed that someone was actually able to annoy him.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: He is shown addressing the audience directly in his debut, and occasionally hums his own leitmotif.
  • Catchphrase: "MAYHEM AND DESTRUCTION!"
    • "I AM THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER IN THE UNIVERSE!"
    • Also, referring to the madness he's causing as his "ultimate show."
    • "Nice show" in the Japanese version.
  • Break Them by Talking: How he turns Dan into another one of his followers. By taking control of his nightmare, defeating Drago inside and showing his true self to him, the poor kid is overwhelmed with fear and despair, leaving him ripe for Haavik to brainwash him.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Haavik is undoubtedly insane, and wants to bring about chaos and mayhem for no other reason than he can and he finds it exciting.
  • The Corrupter: He's capable of bending even the Awesome Brawlers to his will by using what they want to do alongside their rivalries and beef with each other, with Dan barely evading it through his own goodwill, snapping out of his crazed state to save Lia when the latter nearly falls to her death.
  • Disappointed in You: When Dan breaks free of his brainwashing thanks to Magnus' help, he laments that Dan's crazed actions were more like a joke than the big show he expected.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Strangely enough, Haavik is a man of his word, and will usually honor whatever deal was made in a battle if he loses.
  • Evil Counterpart: His questionable sense of humor, often nonsensical disguises, love of games and making a clown out of himself as well as being an attention hog on some big events, on top of discovering a passion for brawling, make him out to be a more amoral and dangerous version of Dan. Whereas Dan's jokes and stunts tend to humor his friends and people on the Internet, Haavik's spectacles are only for his own enjoyment and disregard for people being hurt.
  • Expy: Of Barodius of all people. While he isn't the emperor of anything, is a complete loony and doesn't even have a steady Bakugan before making Sabrus, his outfit resembles Barodius' with the purple motifs, and his true form is somewhat Gundalian-like. His ability to control minds is not only reminiscent of Kazarina's as well, but just like Mag Mel, he's able to invade Dan's dreams to make him lose control, albeit he takes it a step further by enslaving Dan.
  • Foil: To the previous villain Tiko. Haavik is in full control of his actions, whereas Tiko wasn't. Furthermore, Tiko actually wanted to achieve something but failed, whereas Haavik has no plan besides wrecking everything. And while Tiko's virus doesn't discriminate on who it infects and controls, Haavik can only manipulate someone who has enough ill will or is mentally vulnerable enough.
  • Fusion Dance: He's the one who figured out how to use Faction Fusion.
  • Gonk: He is not particularly attractive in either of his main forms.
  • Graceful Loser: He takes his losses in stride, and always honors the terms of the battle if beaten. He pretends to subvert this in the final episode, though.
  • Great Gazoo: He fits this trope to a tee.
  • Karma Houdini: He is on the hit list of several alien civilizations for his numerous crimes, but has seemingly never been caught. Furthermore, In the end, after all the atrocities he had committed, including nearly destroying the world, he simply leaves the planet without a hitch.
  • Leitmotif: Cooky circus music plays anytime Haavik is on screen. He even hums it to himself sometimes.
  • Meaningful Name: Haavik=Havoc.
    • His name was originally going to be Malhem, from Mayhem.
  • More than Mind Control: To fall under his influence, someone needs to be in a mentally bad place, such as being upset either at themselves or at someone else, or have any form of ill will against anyone. Haavik will take it and magnify it until the target becomes as ill-intentioned, morally detached and dangerous as he is.
  • Objectshifting: He arrives on Earth in the shape of a small asteroid.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Big time. He throws tantrums when things don't go his way, and will often delay his own plans to do something he likes. One time, he quit a battle against Magnus and Ajit- one that he was winning- so that he wouldn't miss his favorite cartoon.
  • Purple Is Powerful: It is his primary color in his human and true form, and it remains that way regardless of what he transforms into.
  • Reality Warper: Haavik can basically do whatever he wants, to the point that his own fusion bakugan seems weaker than him.
  • Red Baron: "The Greatest Entertainer in the Universe."
  • Shapeshifting: He can shapeshift into anyone and anything, including cats, insects and even inanimate objects.
  • Siblings in Crime: Non-blood example. After brainwashing Dan into thinking of him as his older brother, he grants him the ability to control Bakugans and even gives him Fangzor x Aquos when Dan's Bakugans aren't enough, all so that Dan can help him spread their "ultimate show" elsewhere.
  • Signature Mon: Fangzor x Aquos at first. Later the Five Faction Fusion Sabrus.
  • Slasher Smile: He wears one almost all the time.
  • Superpower Lottery: Simply put, Haavik has won the lottery, with his abilities including;
    • Shapeshifting. See above.
    • Mind Control in a sense.
    • Conjuring objects out of nowhere
    • Telekinesis
    • Telepathy
    • Invading people's dreams
    • Invulnerability
  • Time Abyss: Garillion, who came to Earth around the same time as the dinosaurs, is stated to have known him personally, so Haavik is, at the very least, several millions of years old.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: He does this a lot up to the final episode.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: After losing several times to them, he begins to take an interest in the Awesome Brawlers, particularly Dan, who he even starts referring to as a "Super kid."
  • What Is This Feeling?: Near the end of the second season, he's more and more confused by why he's enjoying his fights against the heroes in an unprecedented manner. He slowly comes to realize that, just like the Awesome Brawlers, he too loves being a Bakugan Brawler.

     Calloway Storm

Calloway Storm

Calloway Storm
It's very important to Storm "The Phantom Thief" that he is not seen as a petty thief. he's very particular with what he goes after and more importantly, the flair in which his heists unfold. He's a great mentor to Ajit, but don't let that fool you into believing that he's not exclusively serving his own interests. He's very selective in which Bakugan he chooses to rollout - only the best for his brawler.
  • Affably Evil: He speaks in a refined, genteel manner.
  • Animal Motif: The Jackal, seeing as he wears a Jackal mask as part of his Phantom Thief outfit.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: He gets mind controlled by Haavik.
  • The Bus Came Back: After disappearing once the second season has ended, he returns in Legends as part of Hanoj's contestants.
  • Despair Speech: His reasons for joining Hanoj? He believes he has nothing to live for, that the planet is doomed anyway and that he might as well speed it up. Thankfully, Ajit defeating him manages to re-spark the hope that if Hanoj can be defeated, the end of the world might not happen so soon.
  • Evil Brit: He's an antagonist with a noticeably posh British accent.
  • Foil: To Benton. Both are active adult figures that are extremely fond of Bakugan-related things, look after the heroes and help guide them (the Awesome Brawlers in Benton's case, Ajit for Storm), even if with questionable methods, eventually being corrupted by the season's antagonist (Tiko and Haavik). The difference lies in that while Benton's actions were for the benefit of Bakugans, Storm's intentions lie more in giving Ajit his Phantom Thief legacy, being more self-interested (which kickstarts Ajit's decision to leave him when he doesn't understand his actions and puts into doubt wanting to remain his apprentice).
  • Mentor Archetype: To Ajit.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The first time we see his refined persona break is when Ajit decides to leave him.
  • Parental Substitute: A possibly unintentional one to Ajit. He took him in when he had just run away from his orphanage and decided to train him in the ways of a Phantom thief. He might not see himself as a father, but Ajit certainly does.
  • Phantom Thief: Brilliant Phantom thief, as far as he's concerned. With his snazzy dressing, preference for elaborate schemes, leaving a flower and his signature motif on any place he has robbed and grand thefts that he pulls off not simply for financial gain but because he views his thefts as art unto itself, he fits this trope to a tee.
  • You Have Failed Me: This is what he intends to do to Ajit now that he has left him.
     Everett Ray
  • Foil: To Kravitz prior to the second season. Both work into business management and much like Everett, Kravitz engaged in showy and superficial fronts (such as by hiring the EXIT and then the Awesome Ones) in order to gain success and reputation (albeit in AAAnimus' name instead of her own). However, while Kravitz changed her ways after becoming head of AAAnimus and worked to genuinely support public safety and peace with Bakugans, Everett only ever cares about his own gain. Additionally, while she mostly hired Brawlers to perform for her and knew when to withdraw, Everett got more personally involved in his endeavors and developed into a Sore Loser.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Initially just a lousy profiteer with shady business techniques in the first season, his second appearance has him outright supporting a project that'll taint Bakugans' reputation so long he can gain money from it. If that's not enough, he goes as far as blackmailing Lia into working on the project after she realizes the changes he's made without her permission, threatening to sabotage her career if she decides to walk out of the production. It culminates in Haavik corrupting him after Lia manages to ruin his film, making him part of the season's threat. Even after he's freed, he engages in scams to steal people's Bakugans and works for the benefit of Gregorius Reed when he thinks he can make a profit out of the Battle Judgment.
  • The Shameless: Everett Ray, one of the Awesome Brawlers' most recurring foes. He's a sleazy Young Entrepreneur who engages in everything from dirty business dealings, propaganda films that paint Bakugan in a negative light, and even sham contests and games that steal the Bakugan of those who enter, all with an unapologetically smug air. Even when the AB call him out on his reprehensible actions, he just lets it roll off his back, not caring one bit what they think of him.

     Sophie Warfield

Sophie Judson-Warfield

Sophie
Coming from a wealthy family makes Sophire "Savior to the Bakugan" believe she is more important than most people. Her 'save the Bakugan' mantra is just a cover to her cold-hearted personality, gaining status in elite circles and making money through strategic investment in the Bakugan community. This way she can make a mark on her legacy and become even more rich.
  • Affably Evil: She seems to be a genuinely good person at first glance, but it doesn't take long for her hypocrisy to be revealed.
  • Arch-Enemy: Wynton Styles is this to her, due to him playing along with her spiel just to get rid of her.
  • Didn't Think This Through: What she doesn't realize is that Bakugan not only like fighting but also need to fight to stay healthy. She seems to believe brawls are hurting them instead.
    • She brought Bakugans and kids supporting her movement to a brawling park in Evolutions, trying to protest against brawling after feeding the Bakugans her version of how brawls with human partners work. She didn't realize that while the Bakugans would initially dislike the idea of having a Brawler, listening to the Elemental Bakugans would instead entice them into bonding with the aforementioned kids to have even more fun brawling together, essentially subverting the message she wanted to get across.
  • Foil: To Tiko. Both fought to free Bakugans from having to brawl, thinking the combats would hurt and exhaust them and it being a cruel fate. However, while Tiko eventually came to understand the bond between humans and Brawlers made the brawls worth a try, Sophie remained deaf to the heroes' pleas, confused that the Bakugans are "brainwashed" into wanting to brawl. Also, as a Bakugan himself, Tiko knows the importance of brawling for Vestroia's ecosystem and worked towards changing it, while Sophie's solution is apprehending anyone who wants to brawl because she's convinced herself she knows better about what's good for them.
  • Hypocrite: She says her main goal is to prevent Bakugan from being forced to fight each other, yet uses a device that forces Bakugan to fight each other.
  • Informed Flaw: As stated in her character bio, her whole "save-the-Bakugan" speech is supposed to be a front to make herself richer and more important. The show portrays it as a completely genuine, albeit delusional, desire to help the Bakugans to be "saved".
  • Making a Splash: She uses Aquos Centipod which belonged to someone else originally.
  • Meaningful Name: Sophie Judson- Warfield.
  • Motive Decay: By Legends, she holds people hostage to draw Hanoj's attention, simply because he chose Everett and McQ over her to participate in the Battle Judgment rather than any of her Bakugan-rescuing routine, having become willing to endanger human lives to prove herself even if it doesn't help her cause and would literally lead to the end of the world.
  • Ojou: She is very similar to China Riot in this regard, though she flaunts it much less.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Subverted. She believes that her goal is truly beneficial to the Bakugan, but it really isn't.

     Mc Q

McQ

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_4_653.jpeg
McQ
McQ "The Arms Dealer" has a lot of business connections which he uses to build his empire. Ever since the Bakugan arrived on Earth he's been looking for as many ways as possible to maximize his profits by buying and selling all things related to brawling. He's been critical to creating the black market for illegal adult brawlers who use Bakugan control devices. If there's an opportunity to make money, you can bet he's already in on it.
  • Arch-Enemy: Shun in particular, and the Kazami in general, are this to him, due to the fact that they tanked his company.
  • Fiery Redhead: He has red hair, and is a Pyrus brawler.
  • Foil: To Masato and Ichiro Kazami. All three have a history with Shun's position as heir to his father's company, with his father wanting to force him into the family business, Masato wanting to replace him, and McQ having beef with the Kazamis as a whole. While Shun's family mellowed out into becoming better people, McQ didn't cause trouble until the Kazamis ruined his business (made worse by the ban on Bakugan devices).
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He went from a young tech CEO to an illegal arms dealer.
  • It's Personal: McQ used to be a humble salesman, who was about to start his own business selling brawling devices, until the Kazami family releasing their own brand of devices, coupled with their ban, caused him to go out of business. For that, he now has a personal grudge against the Kazamis.
  • Karma Houdini:McQ has involved himself with 4 different major villains, yet has escaped all punishment for working with them.
  • Motive Decay: Started out merely wanting to destroy Kazami International for putting him out of business. But in Geogan Rising and Evolutions, he seems to be committing villainy purely For the Evulz.
  • Playing with Fire: He uses Pyrus Bakugan.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Not as bad as Haavik, but he's shown to naively buy into any new deal with seasonal antagonists so long it gets him cash, an occasion to humiliate Shun and his family, regardless of how likely the antagonists would be to grant his wishes (Wrath and Hanoj are notable examples, as the former promised he'd repay him with anything he'd like, and the latter said he'd spare him from Earth's destruction, in spite of neither one having any reason to keep their ends of the deal). On another note, he's shown to share Shun's love of cute things, buying a Tumpee keychain after loaning a dog, and using a Mobile Gate disguised as a dog toy.
    • This comes full circle during Legends when the rivers of Vestroia end up turning him into an actual literal baby.

     Ebony

Ebony

  • Action Pet: The only recurring animal brawler outside of Lightning.
  • Cats Are Mean: After getting her Bakugan, she quickly intimidates and humiliates the other stray animals (arguably as payback for them doing the same to her) before branding herself as their queen, then Haavik makes her callous enough to even mistreat her group of strays. After Lightning and the rest of the Awesome Brawlers free her from Haavik's control, she simply resorts to making fun of Lightning whenever they come at odds, as opposed to Lightning trying to smooth things out peacefully.
  • Commonality Connection: Attempts to convince Ferascal to sabotage Lightning's attempts at bringing more clients to his favorite restaurant, on the basis they're both cats and she could share sushi with her if Ferascal helps her with her favorite instead. Though Ferascal considers it, she remains loyal to Lightning, prompting a brawl between both brawling pets.
  • Foil: To Magnus. As a stray cat, she was forced to live off the streets and picked up Bakugan brawling to become stronger, as well as using it to look after her own once she formed a small pack of cats and dogs. Unlike Magnus though, Bakugan brawling comes to her more naturally (not that Ryerazu talks to her either). Quite fittingly, her rival is none other than Lightning, Dan's (who's Magnus' rival) dog.
  • Heroic Canines, Villainous Felines: The villainous feline to Lightning's heroic canine. Downplayed starting from Geogan Rising, as she interests herself more in finding food, even through harmless performance, than causing trouble for others. Though she still likes to tease Lightning from times to times.
  • Interspecies Romance: Implied on her end. From the way he gets her flustered, she seems to harbor some feelings for him, even if she doesn't act on it.
  • Sixth Ranger: She is recruited late in Armored Alliance and the last of Haavik's followers.
  • Tsundere: She keeps rejecting Lightning's invitations to become friends purely out of pride, but also blushes several times while rebuffing him, showing she likes the idea regardless.
