    In General
  • Axe-Crazy: Many of them are.
  • Crazy-Prepared: With emphasize on the Crazy part. They have many spies all over the empire. It was even stated by one of them that he was only working there just in case a specific person was going to be there and could have just lived there the rest of his live if such a person never came.
  • For Science!: They are willing to do anything for the development of magic.
  • Right Hand Versus Left Hand: The members of Divine Wisdom don't always agree on their methods despite their common goal, as shown when the first group tries to kidnap Rumia while Eleanor tries to have her killed. Later in the light novel it was revealed hat the organization is split into two factions. The radical faction wants to kill Rumia, while the current affirmative faction wants to capture her.

Major Members

    Ferrod Berif

Ferrod Berif

The leader of the Researchers of Divine Wisdom.
  • All for Nothing: All his efforts to protect the world from the Pure Darkness is this due to the fact, he always ends up attracting the world-destroying horror in every timeloop.
  • Ambiguously Related: Towards Sistine Fibel due to having silver hair and green eyes like her and showing interest to her. Along with the implication that his current body is Sistine's grandfather granted to him by his subordinate, Pauwell. Volume 18 confirms that he is currently using her grandfather's body.
  • Big Bad: As the leader of the Researchers of Divine Wisdom and the one driving every conflict, he's clearly the biggest villain in the series. He ends up becoming a Disc-One Final Boss due to Jatice having managed to fake his own death and kill him with the arm he stole from a demon general.
  • Body Surf: He can take over bodies when the other one's time is up. However the body he uses must have willingly given him their body or else he can't synchronize his soul with it.
  • The Chessmaster: It's stated that he spent various millennia for his plan to gain the Akashic Records.
  • The Corrupter: He gives people keys which can turn them into an Astral Lord and gives them the truth of the founding of Alzano and the world. He gave one to Jatice, Albert, Lazar and Azel. However the former two destroyed their keys while the latter two used them.
  • Fallen Hero: He was originally the Wise King Titus until he went insane and desired the Akashic Records, which turned the utopia he created into a Crapsack World with a cruel caste system and after being defeated for the first time spent several millennia to continuing his plans no matter how many people he needs to manipulate or sacrifice for them.
  • Fatal Flaw: His inability to improvise. While he does have a millenia-spanning plan along with many contingencies in case something goes wrong. Those contingencies' only purpose is to force the plan to go back to how it's supposed to go instead of modifying his plans to fit the current situation. This caused his plan to be completely derailed and according to Jatice he stood no chance against Glenn in the final battle.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He is this whenever the Researchers of Divine Wisdom is involved since all of their work was to appease him and increase their ranking in the organization.
  • Hate Sink: He does not care at all the atrocities he needs to do to fulfill his goal including human experimentation and manipulation to just name a few. What makes him stand even more out is the fact he completely convinces himself that he is the hero of the story and that all the sacrifices are needed to save the world, while having nothing to show for it.
  • Lack of Empathy: In his plans and actions, he only is shown to care about efficiency, which is why is unable to understand why Nameless chose to seperate La Faria's soul from Rumia instead of just killing her, which is much easier.
  • Parental Incest: For centuries he has been Body Surfing between the bodies of the husbands of the queens of Alzano (with the exception of the current Queen, Alicia VII), meaning he essentially had relationships with generations of his own daughters for four centuries long.
  • Shrouded in Myth: One of Ferrod's biggest advantages is that no one knows how he looks like or if he even exists until Jatice revealed his appearance to the whole world.
  • Stock Light-Novel Hero: A very dark take on this. Volume 19 reveals that he was originally a normal human from a regular modern day Earth, who desired to study magic. Eventually he was able to contract with two goddesses and when his world came to an end, he arrived in the world where the current story takes place. He taught the inhabitants there magic eventually becoming its ruler and creating a beautiful utopia. Until he went mad and turned everything into a Crapsack World, while still under the believe that he is the hero who will save it.
  • Tautological Templar: He is completely convinced that he is the hero of the world and that all his actions are needed to save it. Even though his actions caused his lover, La Tillicca/[[spoler:Nameless]] to abandon him and create a Crapsack World in which only a few are happy with.
  • Underestimating Badassery:
    • According to Jatice, Ferrod underestimates humans too much including him, since he only saw Jatice as a madman who will never find out the truth he knows, but in their confrontation during in volume 17 not only was Jatice able to show that he's much closer to the truth than Ferrod thought, but was also able to sabotage his plan due to preventing the war between Alzano and Rezalia by forcing everyone to unite against him instead. Volume 20 even explicitly states that his plan, which he planned for millennia only applied for how the characters would act before their Character Development. Jatice would prove Ferrod wrong by killing him in what was supposed to be his climactic battle against Glenn Radars, only to kill Ferrod himself and take the position of Final Boss.
    • Glenn Radars' presence unintentionally affected several keypoints of his plan such as Jatice and Albert refusing to become Demon Generals. Not to mention the fact that Ferrod is outright aware that Glenn exists and travelled to the past to help Celica defeat him. However he still does not see him as a threat and only regards him as a mere third-rate magician, it even got till the point Eleanor has trouble agreeing with him that their current greatest threat is the Silver Dragon, Silva.

    Eleanor Charlet

Eleanor Charlet

Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa (Japanese), Amanda Gish (English)

A member of The Researchers of Divine Wisdom and the former maid of Queen Alicia VII, and also a necromancer.
  • Ax-Crazy: She really enjoys fighting Albert a bit too much.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: No matter how many hits Albert lands on her, she treats it as an expression of love/lust. It helps that she has a Healing Factor.
  • The Dragon: To Ferrod Berif, being the most prevalent and constant enemy as well as his evident second-in-command in leading/supporting other members.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: A pale, dark-haired necromancer.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Played with in the manga. She's filled with killing intent when Barks chokes Rumia and states that she hates it when women are abused. However, she has no problem with the experiments that her organization performs on Rumia and other women, so it's possible that she just disapproves of abusive Kick the Dog actions that don't advance their For Science! cause.
  • Irony: When she first saw Glenn, she thought it would be fun to have such a Wild Card as him in the game. During the final battle, she is outraged over how much of an impact he had over nearly every major player, completely derailing the plans of her organization.
  • Meido: She was the queen's maid, and keeps the outfit even after.
  • Necromancer: A powerful one that can raise nude, female zombies.
  • Ninja Maid: A necromancer maid, although she's technically only dressed like it by the time she fights.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: She intimidates Barks into ceasing his pointless choking of Rumia, though this is probably because they still need her for their experiments. If so, this is unusual considering that she tried to get Rumia killed by the imperial guards in the previous arc.
  • Smug Smiler: Often sports this expression even when backed into a corner.
  • Undying Loyalty: Due to him saving her life, she is extremely loyal to her leader, Ferrod Berif.
  • Walking Spoiler: Not much can be mentioned about her without spoiling it considering she debuted as the queen's maid, who caused the assassination plot of the second volume.

    Lazar Astir

Lazar Astir

One of the few 3rd heaven order members. He leads the extremist factions that wants to kill Rumia Tingel since they see her unfit as the "Vessel of Taum".
  • Arc Villain: Of Volume 9 & 10.
  • Fallen Hero: He was originally one of the six heroes that saved humanity from a god 200 years ago, but is now a high ranking member of the Researchers of Divine Wisdom.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Can be considered this of volume 2 and 7 since he was the one who ordered Rumia's assassination.

    Pauwell Fune

Pauwell Fune

One of the few 3rd heaven order members and the self-proclaimed oldest and strongest demon summoner.
  • Arch-Enemy: Towards Albert since he was the one who caused the destruction of his village and the death of his sister and fellow orphans.
  • Arc Villain: Of the SS "Fake Hero".
  • Blade Enthusiast: He fights with knives he imbues with his own magic power. They are strong enough to kill Chase Foster, a true vampire, and dismember three wings of Luna Flare, an angel of war.
  • Broken Pedestal: To Albert, his sister and fellow orphans once it's revealed he was the one who destroyed their villages which orphaned them in the first place.
  • Create Your Own Hero: His actions broke Abel and turned him into "Albert Frazer", the ruthless Imperial Court Mage, who wants to kill every member of the Researchers of Divine Wisdom and especially him.
  • The Dragon: He is Ferrod's most trusted and powerful subordinate and one of the few whom he directly contacts with.
  • Unseen No More: He is continuously mentioned by Albert indirectly as someone he must defeat since volume 4, but he first appeared in the side story "Fake Hero" and made his proper debut in volume 15 as the pope of Rezalia's Religion with his identity being confirmed in volume 17.
  • Never Found the Body: This is the reason why Albert believes he's still alive after the explosion of the orphanage.

Huey Lysen

Voiced by: Jin Urayama (Japanese), Ben Phillips (English)

The teacher of Class 2 before his disappearance. He's actually a mole from the "Researchers of Divine Wisdom". He was put to use when it came clear that Rumia or rather Erumania came to the school. He was tasked with modifying the teleportation circle to sent Rumia to their leader.
  • Non-Action Guy: He admits he's unable to fight unlike his comrades and would definitely lose against Glenn in combat.
  • Shadow Archetype: Just like Glenn he became the teacher of Class 2 and became attached to them. They also blamed their inability to choose their own path on their circumstances. Glenn notes this and as a result starts moving forward by becoming the permanent teacher of Class 2.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He only appears in the first volume, but without his withdrawal there wouldn't be a need to turn Glenn into his replacement instructor.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about him without mentioning his true allegiance.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: On the outside he looks like a nice tour guide, but in reality he's a member of the Researchers of Divine Wisdom.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In the original light novel and manga he does of bleeding from Albert's knives while in the anime he transforms into a giant monster and gets killed after Albert blasts him with magic.
  • Undignified Death: Albert kills him by throwing knives at him to make him bleed so that the drug in his system will get out. As a result he dies pathetically from normal bleeding instead of magic.
