The Various Characters in A Clash of Kings A throne for Dragons.
House Brightflame
King Baelor Brightflame
- Abusive Parents: His Father was a brute of a man by all accounts its a wonder Baelor ended up as good natured as he did. He may or may not have killed his old man but don't expect people to be looking into it too much.
- All There in the Manual: A lot of his backstory before we first meet him can be explored a bit more on Daeronsbio on Ak Realm
- Arch-Enemy: Aegon is this for him. He always seeks to taunt the Younger King and when he sees him in battle he rides out to kill him himself
- Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Everything he earned was because he was better then the guy who initially had it.
- Blood Knight: Does not shy away from a battle. Hell he prefers one.
- Brutal Honesty: Is very upfront with his opinions, once dismissing a bard in comparison to James Lail...Right in front of the bard.
- Combat Pragmatist: He first attacks Stannis's lands while the King is out fighting and because he's the Weakest of the Kings in Westeros lands and numbers wise. He also gets Aegon to attack early to weaken the Stormlands and make it easier to invade the mainlands.
- Create Your Own Villain: He sent Daeron to goad Aegon into attacking Westeros early to weaken some of the stronger provinces. Aegon proceeds to be the biggest threat throughout Season 1.
- Decoy Protagonist: Killed early on in Season 2 After spending the entire series before that as the lead protagonist.
- Determinator: Nothing will stop him from taking back the Iron Throne
- Expy: Of Aegon the Conqueror: Both men attacked start there invasion of Westeros with less men then the armies there fighting. Aegon was able to balance this out with his dragons, Baelor balances it out by making them weaken each other and picking up the pieces. Both have two siblings to aid them, though in Aegons case its two sisters he's married to while for Baelor its his brother and sister and he doesn't marry. Both are known for being cruel to those who oppose them and kind to those who follow them and both seek to take all Seven Kingdoms and unite them under one banner. More tragically they both never see this realized. Aegon takes six of the seven Kingdoms but is defeated by Dorne and dies long before Dorne joins the fold. Baelor never loses a war but a fatal battle kills him before he can finish the job.
- Good Is Not Soft: Hes friendly enough, is honorable wherever he can afford to be and is willing to negotiate with others. But at the same time he's no pushover and is capable of some backhanded tactics if it means he gets what he wants.
- The Good King: Well loved by his subjects and sought to be a fair ruler Even in in death he's remembered fondly with Daeron wishing he were still the King rather then him.
- The Hero Dies: He's killed before he can unite the Seven Kingdoms like he so badly wanted, if it wasn't for the fact that he had taken Kings Landing and his brother followed in his footsteps, it would be a tragic "Shaggy Dog" Story.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: Played with. He definitely prefers swords but occasionally will use the mace 'Coldbringer' if he feels like it.
- History Repeats Itself: He's very aware of the Irony of him starting his invasion of the Mainlands from Dragonstone Like Aegon the Conqueror before him.
- I Shall Taunt You: Most of his chivalry goes out the window when Aegon's involved. He treats the Targeyean with no respect and loves referring to him as 'Baby Aegon'.
- Killed Off for Real: in a battle against Daven Lannister he's knocked off his horse and swarmed by infantry who eventually overpower him.
- Leeroy Jenkins: Played with as this is far from his only strategy, though when he sees an opportunity for Glory expect him to run in for it regardless of the risk And boy are there risks...
- Oh, Crap!: when he's knocked off his horse and again when he realizes he's surrounded by the enemy on the battlefield.
- Walking Spoiler: his death happens so fast in season 2 that its hard to discuss it without spoiling Baelor's fate.
Prince King Daeron Brightlame
- A Day in the Limelight: Episode 18 is all about his mission in Essos as 'Daeron of Duskendale.'
- All There in the Manual: Like Baelor there's a lot of info on his bio that isn't as explained as much in the series proper.
- Arranged Marriage: Sets one up so that he can have an heir in case he perishes in battle.
- The Casanova: If his bios anything to go by He has quite a few illegitimate sons running around Essos The problem becomes getting married so he can father a legitimate one which is a big part of Season 2.
- [[spoiler: Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Not necessarily sequel but he's the main protagonist of Season 2 after Baelors death. While he's about as much of a Blood Knight as his brother and can kick just as much ass, he's also more doubtful of himself then his brother was, has a reputation as a flirt to Baelors more Celibate nature and spends a good deal of time trying to pick a bride albeit for pragmatic reasons.
- Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: He's angry at the Kingsguard For there failure in the battle Near Riverrun but still lets them keep there titles and help him, though its clear the failure is remembered.
- Heroic BSoD: Suffers one when Baelor is killed though he pushes through it
- The Lancer: To his brother until Gaerion is declared Hand of the King.
- Really Gets Around: He left behind a lot of bastards in Essos, he's cleaned up his act for the most part.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Goes on a warpath after His brother's death and the seven help you if you get in his way!
Princess Rhaenys Brightflame
- Action Girl: Is the only Female Brightflame but still a capable soldier right alongside her brothers.
- Character Narrator: she's the one who introduces all Subscriber Knights in the videos and does the introduction for episode 4 of Season 2 since Both Brothers are out of commission. One for good.
- Determinator: What does she do when Baelor is killed and Daeron is injured in a battle? Pull herself together and lead the remaining men to victory of course!
- Heroes Prefer Swords: Subverted. She can use one well enough but she prefers her bow to any blade and leads the Dragons Teeth in battle.
- Not So Stoic: Despite keeping herself under control during the battle She isn't unfazed by her brothers death.
- Only Sane Man: She doesn't get into trouble as much as her brothers.
- The Stoic: Is very calm and reserved, especially when compared to her Hammy brothers and usually responds with flirts and jokes she doesn't like with either scowls or Groin Attacks.
- Smurfette Principle: She's the only Prominent female in the series. Justified given the world she lives in.
Sub Knights and Sub Lords
James Lail
- An Arm and a Leg: Loses some fingers fighting The Golden Company.
- The Atoner: Sees House Brightflame as a chance restore glory to his family name and Protects Daeron hoping to make amends for not saving Baelor.
- Bodyguarding a Badass: As a member of the Kingsguard he protects the King. Not that the King is helpless without them.
- Failure Hero: He sees himself as this during his second Heroic BSoD he eventually recovers but not without some lingering doubts
- Heroic BSoD: He suffers a brief one when he loses his fingers and feels he cant be Baelor's Songbird anymore. Baelor himself snaps him out of it. His second his harder to shake off being the death of the King he swore to protect and all. Even admitting he deserved death for said failure!
- I Let Baelor Brightflame die: And he's not happy about it.
- Insult Backfire: Many called him Songbird to mock him. He took the nickname in stride.
- Nice Guy
- The Smart Guy: He's the one Baelor sends to negotiate if he can. He's good enough to convince Tywin Lannister to listen to him.
- Sole Survivor: Of House Lail and because of he's sworn himself to the Kingsguard he wont be fathering any descendants anytime soon.
- Undying Loyalty: To House Brightflame.
- Warrior Poet: his skill in battle is only surpassed by his skill with words.
Gaerion Doryerion
- Cassandra Truth: He tried to warn Valyria about the Dothraki Horde and was exiled for his troubles. Then the Dothraki did everything he said they would.
- The Exile: Was a respected member in Valyria until his rivals manipulated his actions to brand him a traitor and he flees before he's arrested. Given how the Dothraki take all of there land shortly afterwards its safe to say Gaerion got the better outcome.
- The Lancer: He's named the Hand of the King officially making him this.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: A sad case of Real Life Writes the Plot — he's pretty much out of focus and takes no part in the small council after for one reason or another the Sub he was honoring stopped participating in the series.
Richard Lick
- Badass Family: The key reason House Lick was tolerated for its hard stance on crime was the fact that its House produced some of the North's greatest warriors. Richard keeps this from being an Informed Ability.
- Honor Before Reason: His houses destruction was a case of there current Lord refusing to listen to the Starks when he was under siege by the Northern Houses. Granted The Karstark Lord he executed was given more then enough chances even by House Lick's standards making the issue a bit more complex then one would think.
- Sole Survivor: Of House Lick. Initially sent to the Wall where his Line would have ended he was saved by the last few loyal men of his house who trained him and sent him off to serve a King who can restore them. Though like James Lail his line will still likely end with him given his oath as a Kingsguard.
Jory Redwater
- Arranged Marriage: He was the subject of one when the Riverlands were pushed to the North by the Westerlands and the Iron Islands. Though seeing as how he takes his wife with him when he leaves to Join House Brightflame its not without love. And while he's not opposed to these kinds of marriages in general he wont let any of his family be forced into one they oppose.
- Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: He's very sure of himself in a fight, especially when he's drunk. Though given his skills he isn't without reason to be.
- The Big Guy: Was this when he initially joined.
- Blood Knight: He gets in the thick of battle and if he's not covered in his enemies blood, he had an off day.
- Conspiracy Theorist: He doesn't trust the Starkwoods, He thought the Whents were planning something (He was right on that end) And he started a war with the Darkstars and Shamus(The Master of Coin) because he thought they were traitors.
- Defector from Decadence: His defection from the North-Riverlands, there poor decisions and the loss of the entire Riverlands made start to contact Baelor through letters and flee the minute an opportunity arrived.
- From Nobody to Nightmare: He went from a minor Knight with some meager holdings to the wartime hand of the King with an army at his back.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to Robin's Blue.
- Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: His response when he promises to end the Redwater-Starkwood wedding on the grounds that Sophia doesn't want to marry Osric.
- Unknown Rival: The Whents loath the Redwaters and seek there destruction. The Redwaters mostly see them as a nuisance.
Edric Royston
- The Atoner: He does his best to protect Daeron to make up for not being able to save Baelor
- Bling of War: Not only gifted with the armor of a Kingsguard but also with the Valaryian steel sword Heartsbane.
- Celibate Hero: As his oaths demands, expected even more from him given his status as the Lord Commander.
- Cool Sword: He was given Heartsbane after it was pried from the Tarly's
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Ser Kellan. His death and The Vales decision not to take action was what inspired Edric to take up arms with House Brightflame instead.
- Humble Hero: Not during his time in the Vale but as a member of the Kingsguard. In the same vein of James Lail and Richard Lick he's taken his vows and usually brushes off any praise given to him. Whats more astounding for Edric is how young is he is taking this route as Lord Commander.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Kellen's death sets him on one that brings him to House Brightflame Baelor's death sets him on another one right alongside King Daeron. Likely earned him the title of Lord Commander.
- Undying Loyalty: To House Brightflame.
Daegon Darkeagle
- The Big Guy: Of the Kingsguard.
- The Sixth Ranger: Joins the Kingsguard a bit into Season 2 while the rest joined in Season 1. This means he's the only member so far who was brought in by Daeron rather then Baelor.
- Training from Hell: Trained with both the faceless men and the Unsullied..which might explain his decision to join the Kingsguard Despite his claims that he wasn't fully trained.
- Walking the Earth: He travelled all over for one reason or the other. Hearing about the Brightflame quest brought him to Westeros again and under the King's service.
- The Quest: Find a Valyrian sword. He spent years on this before abandoning it for the sake of aiding House Brightflame.
Robin Redwater
- Ascended Extra: He was mostly known thanks to Ak realm despite not being prominent in the series. Though he is given Raventree Hall and Fairmarket, making him a sub Lord.
- Blood Knight: Makes no secret of his love of seeing his enemies piled up on the battlefield, or of fighting for that matter.
- The Exile: Was forcibly removed from Raventree Hall by the Lannisters. Making it all the more sweeter when he takes the city back later on.
- Good Is Not Soft: For all his reasonable actions when you've made an enemy out of him he can put his skills to utterly decimating his enemies.
- Oblivious to Love: A nurse by the name of Tiegan was into him for a long time, but Robin was never aware of this until she was extremely forward about the whole thing.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Well he prefers to be though he has no issue with being feared. He does his best to accommodate his vassals and forge friendships and alliances with other Lords. Even when he's dealing with lords he despises he still does his best to be this.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to his cousin Jory's red. Not above using brute force but more prone to relying on his brain then his blade.
Ian the Oculus
- The Atoner: His failures have never escaped his mind and it fuels him to be better, though he occasionally lets those doubts get the better of him.
- Arch-Enemy: Despises Gregor Clegane for killing Rhaegar's kids and hopes to be the man who takes his head.
- BFS: His Blade Convergance.
- Fire-Forged Friendship: He formed a bond with many of his friends through the many battles he has fought in for the Brightflames
- Happily Adopted: By the Daynes, the lack of known blood ties are virtually non existent.
- Heroic BSoD: He was borderline suicidal after his mistakes in Kings Landing. While thankfully in a much better place then before he's still effected by that day.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: With his adopted brother in law Arthur Dayne. His death caused Ian to start drinking himself into a stupor.
- Honor Before Reason: He doesn't fight dirty and once during a tourney let his opponent back up rather then finish him as he was disarmed. Though he generally takes any consequences of doing so in stride.
- Irony: He joined House Brightflame to make up for failing to save the princes wife and sons. He ends up helping them fight back the army trying to put one of the Princes sons he failed to protect on the throne (Though in his defense, he was likely convinced it was a Blackfyre pretender as many others think.)
- My Greatest Failure: Drank himself into a stupor after his friend Arthur died, this caused him to be no where near Elia or her kids when the capital was sacked and he arrived injured and too late to save them.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: He is a man of honor and does what he deems is right no matter how he personally feels about the situation.
