I think the problem, at least from a plot perspective, is that that's the joke. Every episode is the same so that every once in a while they can totally bust open one of the plot elements and see what makes it tick. There are episodes, for example, where Doof's invention doesn't resolve the plot and the invention is taken out by something completely random. Catch phrases travel from person to person. Sometimes an episode will put a completely different Cast Herd through the paces of a typical A-plot. And still other episodes revolve around examining why this universe ticks the way it does (though naturally there's no answers.) It's not a Deconstruction of Strictly Formula but it's as close as any kids show would be willing to get.
As for the characters, it's hard for me to disagree. My favorite shows are character-driven but this one is so often clever in every other way it's hard for me to care that yeah, Phineas is optimistic and imaginative and kind and that's it. Or that Ferb is silent and good at building things and as close as you can get to a perv on a kids' show and that's about it. And so forth. (With regards to stuff like the comet episode, eh. Nothing wrong with stuff like Out Of Focus and Lower Deck Episode here and there.)
As for the parents...well keep in mind the dad is totally aware of all the crap P&F pull and he assumes that the mom knows. I do take issue with how the mom seems to legitimately think Candace is going nuts and doesn't do anything about it, though. That's a shade to close to neglectful for me.
The songs boil down to taste, really. I like 'em.
Overall, though, I think it's pretty damn good and well worth watching, but if you don't that's your call.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. This sounds more like bashing then giving a proper review :/.
I don't agree with the first comment. It's just bashing, that's not all the show is about, it's about summer, freedom, and canned ham! C'mon it's a good show, that you never gave a real chance.
This is my signature! EAT IT!Okay I think we might have just discovered why the ability to edit comments has been removed. Is your comment what you actually wrote Wackd?
I'm pretty sure my comment was just that Candace is the real star of the show :D Or it doesn't have stars
That was in fact my comment, the only one that got out of this unscathed. Flame Doom 9 doesn't appear to have done anything to it.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I suspected as much, but this rarely happens, and wouldn't had been easier are more fair to just not allow tropers to edit comments that aren't theirs?
That would seem to be the better solution (although open to abuse) but perhaps it's slightly more complex to implement? The site doesn't do a lot of personal edit only's with the exception of actual reviews. Maybe this is only an interim?
One of the big problems with the situation before is we never even find this stuff out. If someone else hadn't happened to comment I'd never have seen my comment got removed. And if they actually changed it, they could put whatever they like in my mouth and I wouldn't actually notice. I feel no edits is better than this, maybe with time it'd even train my to be more thoughtful commenter before i actually post, but you're system still seems the best
Most of the statements made in the review I can just pass off as opinion, but I hafta nitpick at
"Not to mention that most episodes make Phineas and Ferb seem like side characters. Like when they made an observatory to see some comet, it was pretty clear that the real plot was revolved around Canadace, and Jeremy's sister. Or the episode where they go to see their own star. It's SUPPOSED to center on Phineas and Ferb, but most of it centers on Candace trying to find the courage to ask Jeremy to the dance."
That's called A Day In The Limelight, and it's not inherently bad. It just means that those two episodes decided to focus on Candace for a change. What I have a bigger problem with is that you're trying to make it seem like ALL the episodes are like that, when it is in fact the opposite.
"And so many times it seemed OBVIOUS of what Candace was trying to bust Phineas and Ferb on. Are these parents doing this inteentionally to get Candace depressed?"
Gee, I never knew that something that was in a separate room (or, in some cases, building) than the one you're in and you have no intention of going back to anytime soon would be easy to spot. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I try to put together a surprise birthday party in the basement and the surprise-ee is in school for the next 6 or so hours.
As for the reason she doesn't just come look at it right away, which is probably next on your mind: Would you be inclined to drop what you were doing, which oftentimes in the show was very important to you, to go investigate the cuckoo-bananas ramblings of your teenage daughter? Especially when, every time you've done this, the teenage girl has been wrong?
"I know it's just the joke but it's so LAME!" Yes, it's just the joke. This show falls faaaaaar on the silliness side of The Sliding Scale Of Seriousness Vs Seriousness, especially when it's trying to make a joke.. This isn't supposed to be some uber-realistic show. It's Phineas And Ferb.
"Disney is obviously failing in quality, and 'Phineas and Ferb' is some solid proof of that. It's absolute crap, and totally overrated. (Though it is just my opinion.) "
Oh, one of these things is not like the other...
In conclusion, if this comment get deleted, I will flip this desk
Wait, isn't the same troper who review My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic? Let's all just ignore him.
A guy can have an opinion and it's not like he wasn't talking specifics. He even mentioned that in the end it's only his opinion. It's not like children's cartoons are hallowed ground =D
It's not like children's cartoons are hallowed ground =D
Blasphemy!
Overrated?! More like underrated in my opinion! I see more people hating this show than actually liking it.
It's overrated, but I still enjoy it. Though I do agree that it gets stale after a while.
"I don't agree with the first comment. It's just bashing, that's not all the show is about, it's about summer, freedom, and canned ham! C'mon it's a good show, that you never gave a real chance."
Did you notice the part where I said I liked the plot structure, songs, and said it was "pretty damn good and well worth watching"?
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I have to agree on the 'Candace taking over the show = bad' part, but other than that I think it works. The whole joke of this show is that the parents can't ever find out except for a few times. Though I do wish they would give Phineas and Ferb more screen time. As for them being bland, well, Ferb is a tough nut to crack, given his small amount of lines, but they try to make him a more subtle character. Phineas on the other hand, is an optimistic altruistic child, and I can see why you'd think he's bland. But this isn't a show that's supposed to revolve around flawed protagonists, it's just meant to be fun. The creators know that the show is ridiculous and unrealistic, and they enjoy it. If you still don't like that, fair enough, that's your call. But this is what the show is, and it's not changing.
I'm a geek. Now you mention it, it's amusing that the guy whose gimick is only saying one or two lines an episode feels less bland of the two
This is really not a good review. It's just mindless bashing.
I don\'t really like this show, but this review is childish & lame.
This is the only review on the page I agree with. I hate the show.

Hate it
This show is by far one of the worst cartoons I have ever seen in my life. The songs are so bad I would rather hear Hannah Montana (Except the Backyard Beach song. That was kind of good), the titual characters are bland, and the plot of the episodes are predictable. Not to mention that most episodes make Phineas and Ferb seem like side characters. Like when they made an observatory to see some comet, it was pretty clear that the real plot was revolved around Canadace, and Jeremy's sister. Or the episode where they go to see their own star. It's SUPPOSED to center on Phineas and Ferb, but most of it centers on Candace trying to find the courage to ask Jeremy to the dance. And so many times it seemed OBVIOUS of what Candace was trying to bust Phineas and Ferb on. Are these parents doing this inteentionally to get Candace depressed? Because nobody could be that stupid!I know it's just the joke but it's so LAME! Disney is obviously failing in quality, and 'Phineas and Ferb' is some solid proof of that. It's absolute crap, and totally overrated. (Though it is just my opinion.)
