An Average but Enjoyable Series

I'll admit I really liked this series when I first saw it as a kid, but looking back, it doesn't really hold up as well as other Superhero cartoons of its era. It's not terrible; it's just not that great either.

POSITIVES: The animation is quite pleasing, the character designs are at least unique, the music is top-notch, the fight scenes are rather entertaining, the voice acting has a lot of effort put into it, and you can tell the writers were at least trying to make the characters and stories work. For the most part, they sorta did. Batman himself, plus his sidekicks, the superheroes he teamed up with in Season 5, and enemies such as Penguin, Clayface, Black Mask, Harley Quinn, Maxie Zeus, Grundy, and Killer Croc were well-handled.

NEGATIVES: The show's flaws can best be summed up in two words: Executive Meddling. Many of the characters that could have made the show more interesting were Exiled from Continuity for absolute bullshit reasons (i.e. Scarecrow, Two-Face, and Ra's al Ghul couldn't appear because they were slated to appear in The Dark Knight Saga, Robin couldn't appear at first because of Teen Titans, and Wonder Woman couldn't appear in the Justice League because of a dumb stipulation in her character's contract, which resulted in the League here being a total sausage-fest.) The show was also conspicuously Merchandise-Driven, with characters and gadgets introduced for no reason other than to promote the toyline. The writers also must've thought that Viewers Are Morons, because hardly an episode went by when a character didn't state the painfully obvious. The show was also painfully Totally Radical even by the 2000s standards, making for awkward changes in characterization (i.e. Bruce Wayne as a Younger and Hipper scenester who wears tieless suits and eats nachos) and character designs (i.e. Riddler looking like Marilyn Manson for some reason, and Joker having spiky dreadlocks and bare feet.)

All in all, it's a 6/10 for me. It had its problems, but it’s far from the worst thing out there
