Okay, this began as Misaimed Fandom and became Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch, and honestly seems a bit problematic. Pulling here to discuss properly:
- Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch:
- After the first episode of the anime, some viewers criticized the series for its portrayal of slavery as being a good thing. Which is weird, considering that the series never portrays slavery as a good thing; Naofumi's "slaves" are people he saved from either abusive masters, or are people he is providing a better life for. There is even a story arc where Raphtalia confronts her former slave owner who was a horrible human being that took pleasure in abusing her. While they are slaves in the literal sense, the series doesn't glorify slavery at all and instead shows how horrible a system like it really is. And even when Naofumi does act a bit strongly and seems to agree to the system, it's only as a result of him being forced to accept the world for how it is, and even then he still treats his purchased slaves like people.
- Another reason why the first episode is reviled is due to the false rape accusation plot point, which got a lot of people riled up. Regardless of if it was an effective hook for the series, people forget that false rape accusations are a real-life issue and most even refuse to admit that it can happen to men in spite of real cases related to false rape claims existing. Let's just leave it at that.
- It's so bad that some reviewers even admitted that they didn't even view the complete episode and knew of the anime because "it's reputation".
Keep in mind, I haven't seen the show so I can't speak to the specifics. I am only going to respond to the entries as written.
- The first bullet point contradicts itself. It says never portrays slavery as a good thing and then goes on to say that a slave-owner "is providing a better life." The overall thrust of the argument might be valid (that the show is overall anti-slavery, even if it does apparently portray a "good" slave-owner [incidentally, the "good slave owner providing a better life to their slaves" is a pretty common trope in literature set in the antebellum US South]) but it can't contradict itself like that. I don't know the specific complaints about the show but it sounds like a potential strawman argument.
- Second point: This is completely unrelated to Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch.
- Third point: Grammar aside, seems valid, though I would appreciate actual examples rather than generic "reviewers." Also, I find it rather odd that it indicates they started the episode then stopped because of "it is reputation" rather than never started it at all.
Originally these were Misaimed Fanbase, so the change means some issues with the entries being valid.
As for the slavery part, that was my fault. It would need to be redone to better portray what the intent was, which was that people were claiming the show was bad because the main character purchases slaves, which the show itself does not say is a good thing. The main character does purchase slaves, but series has him treat them like people, and that he is basically following the laws of the world.
That could of been better explained on my part.
Edited by keyblade333 Muramasa got.I changed it from misaimed fandom bc it didn't match with the description of the trope page, i asked on the if it should had been deleted it or edited first but there was no answer and i didn't want to start a flame war also the entry seemed more on the lines of that than any other trope i could find so was either that or deletion, also the reviewers who said they didn't see the whole first episode and said they were predisposed where the ones of the anime news network and they said that on their forums when the subscribers questioned the reviews.
it is hard to see in the dark when your eyes are blinded by the lightwhy is a / when i write "didn't" ?
it is hard to see in the dark when your eyes are blinded by the lightwhat?
it is hard to see in the dark when your eyes are blinded by the lightDiscussion pages have been glitched since the upgrade. Links don't work and it adds random slashes.
I agree it didn't match with Misaimed Fandom but the first seems arguable in regards to Complaining About Shows You Didnt Watch, and the second doesn't match in the slightest, either. Kind of a lateral move at best.
Which is why we're here, to figure out how to include it.
Personally, I think that CASYDW can be trimmed to just the third bullet point, as it's the only one that actually fits it. Just put in more detail about whom these reviewers are, and clean up your grammar.
I think the first two bullet points are much better fit for either Internet Backdraft or Overshadowed By The Controversy, but need to be... much less apologetic. The examples as-written seem like they're actively trying to avoid pointing out why people would take issue with the hero being a sympathetic slave-owner or a Wish-Fulfillment anime opening with a False Rape Accusation, especially given anime fandom's... iffy reputation with women.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I know for my the problem is that I have seen complaints about the series, but never any that actually explained why. They just say; "False rape claims in a story are wrong!", or "The mc uses slaves and thats bad!".
As it stands the entries should be removed or heavily edited until something more agreeable is present.
Muramasa got.If TV Tropes would do 5 seconds of research and not shut there brains off when there is a slight disagreement, They would know false accusations are really fucking rare and actually don't ruin the male "life"

keyblade cut the following example:
For the following reason:
"This is such a specific issue and one I have seen almost nobody talked about that when I asked the Broken Base Cleanup thread, the response I was given was that it was such a specific issue that it should be cut. If you feel otherwise, it can be discussed there or here in the Discussions tab, but it is a relatively minor issue that is being made into a bigger one."
A casual Google search showed at least three debates about the subject; two from reddit and one posted on quora.
When I checked the thread as mentioned, only ONE person replied to it and treated the issue as a Single-Issue Wonk (which makes zero sense considering that posting the example and now bringing up this discussion are literally the ONLY two times I've ever brought the issue up — therefore making such an accusation not just incorrect but insulting). No one else replied or commented before the example was cut.
I'd honestly say the fact that most of the MC's harem being "lolis" is pretty noticed by the fandom, with more than one viewer commenting that said loli harem was off-putting to them.
And here's yet another reddit post in which the TOP reply is one saying that they liked the show up until it became a loli harem.
At this point, I don't think "I've never heard of this before" or "It's one troper's Single-Issue Wonk" are credible arguments.
