The Darker and Edgier and Densier and Wackier entries are both at complete odds with each other. One maintains this is the darkest, scariest Resident Evil ever, with almost nothing silly or light-hearted.

The other says the plot is so bat-shit crazy, full of cartoonish characters, that it IS light-hearted, and further that this is in direct contrast to the last game. This one entry alone says there's more silliness, yet it is ALSO darker than 7.

I would do away with both entries, honestly. It'd be better to put it all under an entry of Camp. At the very least, a decision needs to be made on which one, if any, applies.

Honestly, in the past, I've tried to make the argument that Darker and Edgier, Denser and Wackier and Lighter and Softer are not mutually exclusive within the same body of work. Some aspects of it may be darker than before (more adult themes like abuse or rape), some may be wackier (the villain is Laughably Evil in a manner that Crosses the Line Twice) and some may be lighter (despite the dark and miserable things that happen, the story ends on an uplifting note compared to earlier installments).

Most didn't agree with me, though, so your position may be supported if others weigh in.

I genuinely had no idea there was any notion that those tropes needed to be mutually exclusive and I don't know why they'd be so. I mean, looking at another Resident Evil game, Resident Evil 6 is, in a lot of ways, darker than its predecessors, with its bigger stakes, more displays of destruction, the sheer number of deaths in the plot, including a Player Character... and yet, it's also lighter, with plenty of quipping by the protagonists, absurd set-pieces and action movie cheesiness.

So, I didn't want to just re-edit this because it would screw up the whole first paragraph and there's probably room for debate anyway, but this:

"the eigth (ninth if you count Resident Evil – Code: Veronica) mainline entry in the Resident Evil series"

... is doing my head in. For starters: Is there any context in which we don't count Code: Veronica? It's always been presented as one of the main games in the series and it kinda has to be, because it was there that Wesker was first revealed to be alive, which is one of the most important plot points in the entire franchise.

Secondly, even if we were to not count Code: Veronica, there's still the little matter of Resident Evil 0, which is 100% part of the mainline series, which would bring the number of games up to nine anyway (not that I don't understand the desire to remove Zero from continuity). And that's not even getting into the subject of whether the remakes should count as separate instalments or whether the Revelations games are mainline titles. But surely however we look at it, Village simply isn't the eighth 'mainline' game and this is just a case of Sequel Number Snarl?

Because Resident Evil: RE:Verse is a new game added with the game, let's give it its own folder.
