Would a Zombie Apocalypse count? Zombies are non sentient beings, and will not stop until they eat us, so we must stop them by ending the zombie plague once and for all if we are to be truly safe!
Hide / Show RepliesYes, in fact most of these are.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe description explicitly says it does.
That said, I almost newer actually see this happen because an actual "war" with zombies would be horrendously boring since they're mindless, slow, and completely incapable of tactics. World War Z is the only one I can think of that actually plays a Zombie Apocalypse as such.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I think the Starship Troopers quote worked better, the Geth seem to express remorse over what they had to do to their creators while not a single adaptation of ST has suggested that the Bugs should be anything but wiped out, peace is never an option.
Hide / Show RepliesI agree. The current Mass Effect quote is more reflective of someone on the other side of Chronic Backstabbing Disorder being totally distrustful. The Starship Troopers one is shorter, and is more fitting with the Blue-and-Orange Morality aspect of the trope.
Edited by Deboss Fight smart, not fair.Should we add real life examples committed by humans? The hypothesis that we exterminated the Neanderthals has been largely disproven but it's still widely accepted that many tribal wars ended in either genocide or enslavement.
Hide / Show RepliesI'm not sure. When I thought this up, it was mostly a Speculative Fiction Trope that was in the background of stuff like Bug War, Zombie Apocalypse, Robot War etc where both sides are trying to wipe each other out, and the only people who talk about peace are the crazy guys who get eaten/turned/melted whatever. That's one of the reasons I decided not to use the word genocide.
Fight smart, not fair.Yep. Somebody suggested Justified Genocide, but that seemed waaaaaaaaaaay too easy to descend into "but this is totally (un)justified" shit. That's why so much of the description settles on "this is what the characters feel" and "neither faction will give up" rather than any kind of moralizing.
Fight smart, not fair. There's also the real life fact that the Nazis and the Soviets did their damnedest to have at each other for four years. Neither side asked for Geneva Convention protection for their soliders, and this is reflected in the horrendous casualty rates on both sides.
Bickering about this. Don't care who resolves it.
- Gundam SEED devolved into this after the destruction of the Eurasian military forces at JOSH-A, the Earth Alliance was quick to adopt extremely dubious policies like using drugged up biological computers for their own bidding and ZAFT used Genesis to gruesomely wipe out the enemy.
- I must be missing the guilt free genocide since this a war between Gattaca babies lead by someone wanting revenge and regular humans manipulated by racists
At that point in the Bloody Valentine war, the orders given by both sides pretty much devolved to "Execute them gruesomely, use every inethical weapon you got in your arsenal and if you even thinkg about holding back, you are one of them". Yeah, their mindset completely changed from war of conquest to gladly wiping out each other using every destructive weapon if possible.
Removed this entry from the main page since Examples Are Not Arguable.
- Transformers: The Autobots and Decepticons destroyed their planet in a near endless war, costing the lives of many soldiers. They continue their fight by hiding on various worlds and striking out at each other when they become mutually aware of the other faction's presence. Possibly justified, as the war has dragged on for countless millenia, and more or less past any sort of non-violent reconciliation. Earth is at the center of the final battles because it has a shared history with Cybertron. There's also the fact that the Autobots have declared it their new home.
- Original 1984 Theme: "Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons!"
- Subverted in the novelization of Dark Side Of The Moon. Megatron of all bots decides to give peace a chance after Sentinel Prime's defeat.
- Averted, actually. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has Jetfire point out the Autobots and Decepticons are the same race. They're just different political parties, essentially.
Just a quick add-on: the extermination of AĆ«des aegypti (formerly Stegomyia fasciata), which used to carry Yellow Fever in the Americas. It was Bad News. More on how Yellow Fever destroyed Memphis after the Civil War is at http://www.americanheritage.com/content/epidemic
Hide / Show RepliesMost of that new stuff was wrong. I pared the entry down to four one-line bullets, one for each race.
Would the Angels and Demons in Diablo count?
