Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Speaking for myself, a quick skim is pinging my personal alarm of "be wary of any YMMV you potentially have to scroll through."
looks pretty Fan Wank -y to me
A smile better suits a heroIt's not just that it was overly long; the trope in question (Can't Argue with Elves) isn't even YMMV.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.FWIW, I had a similar problem with the game; it was pretty clearly setting the player up to try to make them feel bad for killing monsters, despite the fact that as of the couple hours I had put into it, the monsters had kidnapped the player character, attacked them without apparent cause, and held them against their will in a literal doghouse.
I quit the game because I wasn't in the mood to be preached at for acting in self-defense. If somebody kidnaps me and locks me in a doghouse, no court in the world would convict me if I should harm them while making my escape.
I don't doubt that such sentiments aren't common within the fanbase, specifically because those who dislike how the game handles its themes don't tend to be part of its fanbase; like me, they play the game for a bit, peg it as a bit up its own ass thematically, and peace out.
All that being said, it's a sentiment that could certainly be expressed more economically and as part of a YMMV Audience Reaction like Clueless Aesop as opposed to misusing an objective trope like CAWE.
Edited by HighCrateA edit made me question such entry:
"Many have thanked the game for helping them become better people"
At this point I want to act like Wikipedia and ask for a source for that statement. Is this any similar to the "preach love and kindness" the Bronies were known for? You know, the same fanbase who was very defensive of their cartoon?
I must ask your forgiveness for bringing this topic, since we are talking of the YMMV of Undertale.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.If it matters, I haven't played the game (though I do have it), so I can't really provide any input on whether any of that can be salvaged and listed as an example of something that's actually YMMV.
Edited by GastonRabbit Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.^^^ If it matters, I'm more familiar with the game so I can say the example you describe isn't exactly how you're portraying it. (Context: Despite appearing brash towards you at first, doesn't have malicious intentions and only does what he does to impress the Royal Guard. He even warms up to you afterwards.)
(Don't) take me home. Also the game is very clearly playing the doghouse thing for absurdist comedy and it only happens if you somehow manage to lose to one of the easiest bosses in the game. It's also the only fight in the game where losing never, ever results in your death no matter how many times it happens, which is supposed to be an obvious clue that the guy you're fighting doesn't actually want to hurt you and really is the dumb friendly goofball that he appears to be.
Edited by Dirtyblue929Also, quite a few of the monsters "attacking" you aren't trying to hurt you on purpose, and simply don't realize that you're a human who can be negatively affected by their abilities.
This is starting to get off topic, do we have a consensus to delete their edits? Cause they didn't just add Can't Argue with Elves.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the mid^^^^ Oh, he only kidnapped a small child and locked them in a doghouse to try to get a job as a cop? Well, that's okay then. That's just verisimilitude.
^^^ If the game isn't willing to take its own moral themes seriously, why should the player?
^^ A wild animal isn't being malicious when it attacks you, but it's still self-defense if you put it down.
Edited by HighCrateLike I said this is getting off topic. We need to talk about the edits made to the YMMV page, not the merits or lack thereof of the game itself.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midTrue, true. I apologize if I was derailing the conversation. That just really irked me for a sec.
(Don't) take me home.It irks me as well (the whole thing is played for humor and as another nail that the character really doesn't know what he's doing. Also isn't the doghouse unlocked?), but yeah, off topic. +1 to zap Zoic Alcelaphine's additions.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢To be fair both you and high crate were equally responsible for derailing the conversation. Back on subject alloop, you could also bring these edits to the complaining clean up thread as it mostly sounds like the person is complaining.
Edited by audasiousAlright, I posted it there as it does seem like these entries are worth deleting, especially due to how ridiculously long and Natter-y they are, but I'd like to get a more concrete opinion.
Edited by AlleyOopBump. So I feel there is enough consensus to get rid of the edits, just cite this query.

FWIW I am fine with deleting them. I do think that some of them could be reworked into acceptable, neutrally-worded examples of YMMV Audience Reactions, but I can't say I care enough to do it myself, and the entries as written clearly gotta go.
It looks like we've reached a solid consensus on deleting the entries, but I plan to hold off on deleting them until the ongoing Captcha issues are resolved.
Does Saltyx Sugar’s edit count as a personal vent?
Yup looks like another personal vent. It might be also an edit war.
Edited by audasiousThey deleted it, though funnily enough it seems they were following this thread since it's linked in the edit reason.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Did you confuse who deleted it? Looks to me like SaltyxSugar's edit was deleted by the same user who brought them up here.
Edited by homogenized...Huh, could've sworn Salty deleted it as well. Nevermind, then.

Zoic Alcelaphine has been adding a great deal of lengthy edits to the YMMV page of ''Undertale'' that read to me like personal venting rather than proper descriptions and summaries of opinions held by a portion of the fanbase, as the page is meant for. A bunch of them also come off as Darker and Edgier or Ron the Death Eater interpretations. We've had other problems with editors around this time adding such charged entries onto the page for Sans.
From my own experiences with the fanbase, and asking others still in it, these do not seem to be widely-held opinions.
