Its supposed to be a wiki trope so it shouldn't be wicked for the most part anyway.

No idea why its written (or names that) like that though.

The first sentence says it's about consensus-building on a wiki. The rest is so buried in metaphors that it's barely decipherable.

Edit: I looked at a couple of the wicks and people seem to actually think the page has something to do with herding giraffes. This may need to go through TRS or the Outdated Pages thread; I'm not sure which.

Edit: More wicks:

    Wicks
Main.That One Side Quest:
  • Beaver Bother. Herding giraffes is nothing compared to herding beavers, into a pit that seems scientifically designed to keep beavers out, in a truly absurd time limit. Even if you approach them just right, the beavers won't necessarily go in the hole. About 50% of the time a beaver will go up to the edge and just refuse to fall, even if you're approaching the proper way. Most walkthroughs will tell you that nothing will cause that beaver to fall into the hole for about 10 seconds once they decide they don't want to go in, and you only have about 60 seconds to reach your goal. One level has two Beaver Bother minigames in it.

...do we have Funny Moment for ATT? XD

I think it's joke page about how hard and surreal it can be to seek consensus on wiki.

Is it really a trope? It's an in-joke, and moderately amusing as such, but does it belong on the main namespace? EDITED: I know that we have a category of Wiki Tropes, but this one seems to be more commentary on the wiki community than an actual trope.

I really don't this page should be a thing. If what it says is that building consensus is extremely difficult, then we have plenty of YMMV tropes for that.

It would be a wiki trope if it actually focused on it's topic. It reads as if it were written by committee, like it's trying to be self-demonstrating. There is no page history, btw.

I can see this being a valid wiki trope, but do we already have something like that? It's Cat Herding but applied to wikis as sort of a self-deprecating joke. If we already have a trope for the concept, we could probably move this to JFF, which I think didn't exist when it was first made.

Maybe we should wait for a mod or someone to make the call. I think it should be cut, for one.

I support cutting as well.

I'm fine with cutting it as well, though that would probably have to go through TRS; that's what happened to Multi Category Semi Example earlier this year, with that also being about TV Tropes (though that page was specifically complaining about TV Tropes).

I might be wrong, but the lack of edit history means this page is really old, right? Like, predating a number of major overhauls to the site over the past decade or so? If that's the case it reeks of a holdover from the site's earlier, less organized and professional days.

EDIT: It's got a discussion page archive that seems to explain it:

Screw-the-duelists-i-have-money-in-america:why do i have a sneaking sensation that the joke is on me?

Seth: Because you misunderstood the joke? Don't make me explain it (But i will have fun adding the mark up to your comment)

BeingX:please explain it

Seth: It's equating getting people to agree to something (Consensus building) to having to herd giraffes. Then it says that there are no methods. Just a funny Title Bin entry put to use as a joke.

I can't believe i just explained that. I feel dirty.

...followed by a bunch of "lolrandom" meme replies. So yeah, it's just an old-as-dirt inside joke from the very earliest days of the site. The archive also suggests that people have been trying to get the page cut for ages, but people at the top who were in on the joke vetoed it:

Tanto: And people accuse me of wanting to destroy the wiki's sense of fun? *shakes head sadly*

FastEddie: Re: Cut request. This has to do with humor. Keep.

Well, second time's the charm: I say we just cut the thing.

Cut or JFF - there's barely a wisp of something workable in there, so I'd go with cut.

As for the history, it was created pre-2012 so moderation has no tools to find it earlier. The discussion ^ is telling enough anyway.

It goes back to 2007 at least, but why is a cut discussion being held at ATT?

I just brought up the trope because I had no idea what the deal was with it. The cut discussion was brought up later. Where's the cut tropes discussion thread?
