I would think Anime and Manga.
^Yeah, I've seen them often placed there to avoid folder inflation. Considering there's rarely more than or two such examples, it's simpler.
I see no reason why Manhua and Manhwa should go under Anime & Manga when they're clearly not either of those. I'd prefer they just get their own individual media category/folders instead.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectI've seen "Asian Animation" folders used for animated media that isn't Japanese, but IIRC wasn't the distinction between anime/Western Animation and manga/comics purely a relic of the times?
Here it feels like the only options would be to create an entirely new media category (which seems overly specific to me the same way the Light Novel namespace was) or lump it with anime/manga.
I know the latter has iffy implications suggesting all Asian animation/comics are anime or manga, but I don't see anyone up for renaming the Anime and Manga namespaces entirely.
^ In a perfect world Neon Genesis Evangelion and Spongebob Squarepants would go under the same "Animated Shows" category. American Comic Books, Manga, Manhwa, and Manhua would all just go under "Comic Books". But it's too much of a hassle to change it now.
So again, I'd suggest just putting Manhwa and Manhua in their own folder/category if you want to provide a trope example from said mediums, because it just doesn't make any sense to put Korean comics in the folder specifically for Japanese comics.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2 Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation project^ My bad, I seem to have misunderstood the difference between the folders each media goes into and the namespace itself. Sorting where stuff goes into folders is much less intensive than what I thought was being asked.
That said, since Manhua is Chinese and Manhwa is Korean, separating both of them from the Japanese Manga would basically result in three separate folders entirely dictated by their country of origin. Like I said, while I see some pages distinguish between anime and other non-Japanese Asian animation, it just seems way too specific to single out media by country. (Yeah I know anime and manga does it, Grandfather Clause and all, I don't think that means we should keep doing it though.)
Edited by lapistier^ I think I've seen an "Eastern Animation" folder in some trope lists. So maybe Manhwa and Manhua could just go under "Eastern Comics"
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectI've seen them in their own Manhwa and Manhua folders before. Wouldn't be opposed to that or something like Eastern Comics.
I don't think having folders with one or two examples in them is too bad, so having separate folders for Manhwa and Manhua sounds like a good idea to me.
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the groundMaybe this needs to be agreed at Wiki Talk to update Media Categories FAQ?
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI usually place them in their own, to be honest.
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMP Live^^ Do we have a centralized thread for Media Categories?
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectSummary.Anime And Manga has Manhwa and Manhua folders, when really those two folders should go under Summary.Comic Books.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectAlright, I made a General Media Categories discussion thread. This convos can continue there.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2 Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectNevermind.
