Waves of regular enemies can be filler between bosses a Boss Rush
Dungeon Crawling and Roguelikes are this taken to its logical conclusion
^ I don't think any of those could describe these:
- Devil May Cry: The fourth and fifth games have the "Bloody Palace" mode where the player character ascends up "floors", fighting different enemies in each floor; in certain floors there will be bosses as well. There are up to 100 floors to fight in.
- Honkai Impact3rd:
- The Infinity Abyss game mode has you fight increasingly dangerous enemies while "descending down" floors, with certain levels being filled with a boss instead. There are 25 floors to fight in.
- There's an event only game mode where you and another player fight off enemies in a Co-Op Multiplayer while ascending floors. You can "skip floors" if you can beat the current enemies in a time limit, although "boss floors" cannot be skipped. There are 100 floors to ascend, and you'll stop if you take too long to clear a floor.
Bonus Dungeon, overlapping with Brutal Bonus Level, lampshaded
Edited by Unsung^^ Both examples would be textbook Multi-Mook Melee, of the second variety mentioned in the description:
^ I wonder why at least DMC hasn't been mentioned there, though.
We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenzaOversight, maybe? Alternatively, the main page for the franchise lists it as Monster Arena. Never having played the games, I'm not sure what the best fit would be.
Between Multi-Mook Melee and Monster Arena...
Although I know this one would fit neither!
- Honkai Impact3rd: The "Matrix Explore" game mode has you play in Randomly Generated Levels where you're exploring Cyberspace, floor by floor. Once you start, you can't change the characters that you use beyond the ones you have chosen, and you can't heal your characters outside from finding item drops or the special methods offered by the levels; the game is over when all of your characters die, although you can freely exit after completing each floor and then continue in the next floor at another time. In each floor you have to find the "exit doors" to finish; every 5 floors there'll be a boss floor.
Yep, that one'd be a Roguelike. And Bloody Palace mode could be both Monster Arena and Multi-Mook Melee, maybe? Is it a location in-game or a separate mode? Also, with these separate floors, are they one room each or is each floor its own little dungeon map?
Edited by Unsung^ For Bloody Palace, they're one simple room each, and it's a separate mode.
We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenzaThen yeah, I think Multi-Mook Melee is the best fit.
A videogame mode where you fight multiple enemies on a "floor", then if you succeed, you'll ascend (or descend, thematically, in some games) to fight stronger enemies. Might include bosses. The challenge is to beat as much floors as possible before you die (or the timer's up).
Do we have it?
