"Wedding Proposal", by itself, isn't a narrative convention. Wedding and Engagement Tropes is an index with several different types of proposals.

^ But we're talking "against the norm" here.

It is if it serves as a Relationship Upgrade, or if it's the moment they officially hook up.

  • scenario 1: from "just friends"/co-workers/etc., to marriage proposal
  • scenario 2: from dating, to tying the knot

^^ until fairly recently, "the norm" was that the family patriarch/matriarch decided who it was that got married and when. This idea about proposing marriage to specific individuals is relatively new.

^ Yes, Relationship Upgrade is a trope. You've added a preexisting relationship to the concept of "marriage proposal".

I'm not seeing the problem. It's normal for a relationship to progress from dating, to marriage. It's still counts as both a relationship upgrade and a proposal (my apologies if I misunderstood your post).

Often part of Weakness Turns Her On, then segueing into Parenting the Husband, Henpecked Husband, etc. Could be the case when an Amazon Chaser finds The One, and the Violently Protective Girlfriend becomes the violently protective wife. Sometimes played as a Wacky Marriage Proposal in older works/works deliberately channeling the Values Dissonance of older works.

I think we're getting a little off topic

^If it's specifically about her proposing to the guy, I'd say Single Woman Seeks Good Man covers it.

You're good. I think we've got a bunch of good tropes for the OP to use. I'm just here pointing out that "woman proposes to a man" is an inversion to a non-existent trope because most of the tropes that apply as an inversion aren't limited to proposals, and most of the tropes that apply as a relationship change aren't limited by gender or to the proposal itself (friends to dating, dating to monogamy, monogamy to marriage).
