Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Please see Handling Spoilers.
There're two things you must not done at all. Do not cover character's name with spoiler (this is covered in "never use spoiler tag above example list"), and do not cover trope's name in tropes list.
Okay, thank you. I still have questions. Every trope applying to the character is something of a spoiler, so I think it would be best to put an "unmarked spoilers" warning and put it in a folder, but it's already in a folder and apparently they don't stack. What's the best approach here?
Edited by RiverWhiteWolfYou can circumvent the spoiler-y name, as is noted in Handling Spoilers: 4. On Characters pages, do not ever conceal the name of a character in a folder or header. [note] You can use descriptors where the character's name would be an inherent spoiler (example: "The Killer").
Some context would be nice, if you want more specific suggestions.
- Fly, robin, fly! - ...I'm trying! Is the character's name and mere existence a spoiler? If not, you can label the spoiler characters' folders "[Character Name] (spoilers!)" or something like that. Or if a character page has one or more Walking Spoilers that can't be concealed with descriptions, you might add a "Here be spoilers" warning atop the page.
The way I did it on Dragon Ball - Android 21 is by putting "Spoiler Character" as the name of the folder and then adding a Spoilers Off warning at the top of the page so that people would have to either scroll down and risk seeing the spoiler and/or open the folder to do so.
^ I don't know if it's OK to have just "Spoiler character" as the folder name, that's nearly as unhelpful as hiding a trope's name in spoiler tags. It's probably best to put some kind of vague descriptor alongside the spoiler warning, so people can have an idea of who the folder is for before clicking on it.
^^ "Spoiler Character" is NOT okay as a folder name.
Yeah, that seems pretty counter-intuitive, people won't know if they know this spoiler character or not unless they click to read the folder.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSo should we make it policy to forbid naming certain folders Spoiler Character?
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesIt's already policy, #4 on Handling Spoilers.
I could see someone thinking that #4 on Handling Spoilers only forbids hiding character names behind spoiler tags; maybe it should be tweaked to also mention no naming folders Spoiler Character.
What's the protocol for adding spoiler characters to character pages? Should the name be added but spoilered, just marked as 'Spoiler Character', or should an alias be used? Should the tropes under the header be spoiled, or should it be put in a folder?
