The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
While it is not strictly sidequest related we do have Player Headquarters.
Command & Conquer Economy for the empire-building sort, An Entrepreneur Is You when they're smaller scale operations like running a business. Pathfinder's Kingmaker focuses on the former, while the optional Downtime rules let you do the latter.
4X and Real-Time Strategy games are all about this sort of gameplay, and there are a ton of related tropes Resource-Gathering
A Homeowner Is You is the closest we've got at the moment, I think. Whether we expand the description or make this its own trope ("Player Stronghold"?) depends on the number of examples we can get together, I think.
This used to be a class feature for fighters in some versions of D&D, in something of an aversion of Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards: fighters would become landowners and gain armies and income as wizards gained higher-level spells.
DO we have a trope for when a video game (usually an rpg) has A Home Owner Is You elements but with a more political/military bent? example i can think of include
- Vigil's Peak from ''Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening
- Skyhold from Dragon Age: Inquisition
- Caed Nua from Pillars of Eternity
- I haven't played Pathfinder: Kingmaker yet but it seems to be all this
- Fighter's Stronghold from Baldur's Gate
Basically, it has to have elements of ruling (making judgements, usually organizing patrols, dealing w subjects problems)and reconstruction/rebuilding. I can;t find it but i'd be weird if we didn't have this Edited by Libraryseraph
