Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

I don't see the need to have such a giant box. Not only is it an eyesore, it just makes the page feel overwhelming and is more trouble than it's worth. There's pages with more subpages than GOT that don't need a nav box
Macron's notesI never felt the need to get rid of it but I also don't feel the need to keep it. If we wanna shrink it, I'd keep all of the tropes within the same letter/range of letters on a single page - so everything under Tropes A would link to the other Tropes A subpages, Tropes T to Z would be linked on both that page as well as Wham Episode, etc.
I don't know if what I'm saying makes any sense but basically, I do think it'd be convenient to keep some of the navbox if not all of it.
I find the navboxes convenient, but I agree they don't look great when it gets that big, but that's more of a site issue.
It's also harder to scan a block of text like that compared to a bulleted list. I'd be fine getting rid of it. But I'd also be fine with ^^ this compromise.
Either way, I'd be fine keeping the pagetop link to the main work page for navigation ease.
I think keeping it to the main alphabetical example pages might work fine, the listed subpages can go. Here's what it'd look like:
^ this is fine
^^ I like this solution.
^^^ That's good, but I'd removed the "Tropes for" part; it's redundant with the links as they're worded.
(Note: backslash markup doesn't work on query pages; the header is intended to be on a separate line_
And then at the top, GameOfThrones.Tropes A would link to:
- AbortedArc.Game Of Thrones
- AdaptationalAttractiveness.Game Of Thrones
- AdaptationalBadass.Game Of Thrones
and so on, how's that sound?
Edited by SynchronicityThat also works just as well for me
^^ That's perfect! Makes it so much easier to link to subpages.
That works
Macron's notesThanks for the input everyone. I'm wrapping up the fixes, basically now:
- All pages (eg. BadassBoast.Game Of Thrones) have the simplified navbox above.
- The 'parent' subpages (eg. GameOfThrones.Tropes B) have a list of subpages above the trope examples.
This way, the only times every page would have to be edited is if one of the "Tropes [letter] to [letter]" pages are split, which will not happen as often now that the show is three years out from its ending. If one just wants to give a trope its own subpage, they would just have to edit the parent "letter" page and add it to Series.Game Of Thrones.
Given the show's scope and size, Game of Thrones has a lot of subpages for trope examples. On each of these however (like AnimalMotifs.Game Of Thrones) you get a massive navbox that lists every subpage.
I find this more trouble than it's worth:
