The Super Blackwing 1 wasn't the one who initially added it, that would Nate River 18 on June 13th 2021.

Yeah, that's not an edit war. The Super Blackwing did add badly indented example in the edit they did so I sent a notifier for that.

Audience-Alienating Premise:

I don't see an edit war, but TheSuperBlackwing1 could be messaged to come for a discussion, because the example doesn't fit Audience-Alienating Premise and does sound complainy.

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: The concept of the show where Sonic, despite being the titular character, would not receive much screen time in favor of a human kid character who comes off as annoying and uninteresting to the majority of the audience definitely was not gonna win over a lot of fans of the franchise. Not that it stopped people from watching the show in the U.S. and getting #1 in the ratings.

^^^ Yes, Blackwing only readded the example after it'd been deleted.

Isn't that third edit what counts as an Edit War?

Edited by FernandoLemon I'd like to apologize for all this.

Per Edit War, only if the same troper does the same own edit the second time.

To be an edit war, they would have had to have added it initially, seen it removed, then readded it (readded implies they at one point added the example).

Okay, good. That being said, examples that were removed as misuse should be discussed, rather than being unilaterally re-added, and I don't think this one was.

I'd like to apologize for all this.

FWIW I do think the example is misuse, as the premise of Sonic himself is massively popular (as attested to by the numerous games and now films featuring him), and the example itself says the show was very popular (so obviously people were not turned off by the premise).

That's why TheSuperBlackwing1 (and Tylerbear12 possibly) ideally should be DM'ed to come here to have the example discussed, though if we agree to remove it without them and TheSuperBlackwing1 adds it again they'd be rule-breaking regardless if they've seen the note.

I stand by my edit, as it is definitely misuse. According to the page description and the laconic on Audience-Alienating Premise, audience alienating premise refers to works that have failed commercially due to its premise being too much of a turn off. Although Sonic X's premise is undeniably divisive and many fans hate it, it was certainly not enough for it to fail.

While I don't think we have much in the way of hard full data on how well it did, it is clearly quite popular, as it had three seasons (one ordered by 4kids precisely due to how well the first two did), a 40 issue comic book run, tons of The Merch and has a history of being Adored by the Network as explained by the anime's trivia page.

The fact that the games would also adapt elements of the anime (most notably its English voice cast) is also a testament to its popularity IMO, as well as Sega and TMS continuing to promote the anime as recently as 2020

Even the re-added example essentially invalidates itself, thanks to this little tidbit at the end, essentially stating the premise was not enough to stop people from watching the show.

>Not that it stopped people from watching the show in the U.S. and getting #1 in the ratings.

So yeah, there's my two cents.

Yes. Audience-Alienating Premise doesn't apply when the work is actually successful (the audience certainly wasn't alienated).

Also, the description in AAP states that in order to apply, we need objective proof that the audience was alienated by the premise.

So should we cut Audience-Alienating Ending now as objectively misused? Or are we waiting for something?

Bump: as there's two call to cut Audience-Alienating Premise as misuse, I will do so unless I hear anything.

Clear misuse. Go ahead.

Looks like Ferot_Dreadnaught already cut the example citing this thread. I think we can lock here and move on with our lives.

I'd like to apologize for all this.

If they re-add the example, then they'll be edit warring and a new report can be made.
