Even if it wasn't played for comedy, I can't see how this is meant to be scary more than just "cautionary" or "sad". If it showed people boiling alive without the Sunblock maybe. This is kind of like when people say that environmental problems are the "real" horror story (which is not to knock environmentalists' cause, it's just not at all the same kind of scary.)

If Nightmare Fuel is a YMMV trope, then it stands to reason what scares one person might make another person just laugh and vice-versa. Are we telling people, "no, you cannot find this scary at all"?

While we do have a cleanup thread, the cleanup operates on a "if this scared anyone, or might reasonably scare the target audience, it can stay" principal, with few exceptions note . That means that the example is probably valid. Black Comedy can still be Nightmare Fuel.

To me this is covered by Fridge Horror. The scene is played for comedy and we don't really see any of the implications played out.

Then it should be moved to Fridge and removed from Nightmare Fuel on that basis, since Fridge Horror is banned from these pages.

How's the sun being lethal a case of Fridge Horror? Who'd need some time to figure out why getting skin cancer in 20 seconds is scary?

I guess that's fair? I'll admit, IDK the movie, I'm just stating the rules the cleanup thread uses when deciding these things.

...And that's probably where we should be having this discussion, tbh.

It's not Fridge because it outright states those things. Maybe if it showed them it would be more valid NF but it doesn't despite not being a work to shy away from Gorn.

^^I agree that the discussion should be taken to that thread.

Here's a link to it.

(That said, if I had to give my $0.02, I'm with MichaelKatsuro on this one.)

The reason I suggested it would fit better under Fridge Horror is because the movie never focuses on the implications of what was said in the commercial. It's just mentioned that the ozone layer is gone and the only sunblock that can protect you from solar radiation will give you cancer. It's only scary because of the viewer's imagination.
