Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

Generally, policy is to use the most recent English-language edition if the work didn't originate in English. That said, for our purposes a slightly different release date by region doesn't count one or the other as more recent, so I don't think it matters.
SoundCloudI think we can use the more recognisable US name in this specific case (as it seems to bring up more search results of people using it, though not sure as I'm on mobile ATM).

An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)Well, Google does cater results according to location or what version of the search engine you're using. Google USA will probably bring up more results for Topsy-Turvy, but Google UK or other European versions might bring up Universal Gravitation more.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I did a Google Trends comparison and while initially it seems both terms get the same amount of attention◊, the international title is classified as a video game while the US title is not, and the international receives more attention◊ in that comparison.
So I think the page should be listed as Yoshi's Universal Gravitation.
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsI mean, I am European and I don't remember having heard of the game under the EU title before. I do prefer the US title, but that's just for personal reasons, so we can use the EU one.
Edited by Piterpicher Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)If it has got two English titles, we go with the most recent. If it is has two concurrent English titles, we default to the first come, first served, method of titling like we do with American and Commonwealth Spellings. That used to be the policy a few years ago, at least.
Edited by CrypticMirrorFor what little it's worth, the NA release was a bit under two months after the European release.
Complicating the matter is that it's Yoshi's Universal Gravitation in the original Japanese.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.I personally think Topsy-Turvy is a more fitting name — Universal Gravitation is pretty formal considering the game's tone. Plus it's the more recent name anyway.
I wonder which name Nintendo prefers to use in English-speaking territories. Is it referenced in any of the Smash games?
Edited by Karxrida If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?At least two characters from this game (Hongo and the Spirit Who Loves Surprises) make an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as (amusingly enough) Spirits. But I'm afraid this does not clear up anything, since they're billed as simply being from the "Yoshi series" instead of the specific game.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."According to this page from the Super Smash Bros. wiki, the stickers in Brawl that come from this game are both labeled as being from Topsy-Turvy, even in English PAL versions of Brawl. So I think Topsy-Turvy is supposed to be the official name.
Edited by SeracI ultimately created the page under Yoshi's Universal Gravitation, per Hello83433's Google Trends analysis, The Other Wiki's precedent, and the apparent first-come-first-serve policy. Provincialism might have also played a small part.
As I said, Yoshi Topsy-Turvy is a redirect. If that was wrong or violates any policy, feel free to switc the titles around.
Edited by WackyPancake "I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I think it's fine that way. The fact that the first English title is the same as the Japanese title gives it that extra push.
Shouldn't it be Yoshi's Tousy-Turvy, not Yoshi Topsy-Turvy? Or can both exist as redirects?
A smile better suits a heroNo, Yoshi Topsy-Turvy is the right title. You can tell because Topsy-Turvy is an adjective.
I have the NA game, and it is indeed Yoshi Topsy-Turvy.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.
I am currently thinking of making a trope page on a childhood video game that I (an European) knew as Yoshi's Universal Gravitation. This is the title that was used in the game's native Japan as well. In the USA, however, it fell victim to the Market-Based Title effect and was released as Yoshi Topsy-Turvy.
Under what title should I create the page? As you can see above, the other wiki uses Universal Gravitation. However, this being a US-based wiki, I'm not sure if it's policy or it would be more appropriate to use Topsy-Turvy.
In any case, I will probably add the title I don't use as a redirect.
