This thread is mainly for Yume Nikki gameplay and other on-the-surface stuff. For more theoretical stuff, there's this thread.
Also, due to the nature of this game, visual media posted in here may result in sleep loss. Proceed into this thread at your own risk.

Now that I've completed this game, here's what I believe to be my top 5 moments:

  1. UBOAAAAAAAAAAAAA
  2. The "Game-Breaking Bug" in the 8-bit dungeon
  3. Seccom Masada-Sensei
  4. The floating garden and the view of the city from it
  5. The Aztec Rave Monkey

There's still stuff I haven't done yet, like the room loaded with stabbable NPCs and the octopus balloon.

UBOA totally hangs out at bars with the Slender Man.

I don't get why everyone thinks Uboa is the shit. Seeing it is so rare that chances are anyone who knows about it got that information secondhand.

I very much liked this game, despite the lack of... stuff. There just wasn't much content.

My favorite parts? Let's see:

1. My favorite part is the transition to the pink candy colored world where Uboa is, from the igloo world. It seemed really... professional and well designed to me. An awfully petty thing to remember yes, but I don't care, I thought ti was a really neat effect.

2. there is a part in the circuit-board world where you have to stab one of the zippers on the wall, then there's a hall with a pink rubber guy polishing a handrail or something. When you go to the end of the hall you see a big flashy abstract shape that looks like a petroglyph of satan or something. Then you wake up. Another nice touch.

3. Stoplight girl. Though the developer could have made a better choice in music.

4. In one of the cities there is a room (I think you get flute there actually) that has a ugly shape face guy and a harmless teleporter girl at the desk. It looks like the lobby of an office or something, and IIRC the girl will change the frames in your dialog.menu boxes. I thought it was pretty cool.

5. In the desert there is a shed type thing that looks like a hot spring inside, there is no use to this room but that's probably why I like it. It also looks really out of place.

If this game had more content, less repetitive music and landmarks (so you get lost in between dream worlds, instead of on a repetitive looping screen it might just be my one of my top 5ish favorites ever.

I don't get why everyone thinks Uboa is the shit.
Even if you do know how to get him, there's still suspense involved in the 1/64 chance of him appearing, and then there is the area he dumps you into.

Honorable mention to the room with the Flute effect. The music combined with reading this theory (courtesy of YouTube user Uhiwaka82) is a definite Tear Jerker for me:

I thought about this part in the game. This is what i thought of...
Being a little girl, madotsuki was afraid to go to the doctors (that place looks like a doctors office)....So whenever her mother took her to get a shot, her mother would sing her this song to make her feel like everything is okay...

Also, having seen the witch event, I kinda wanna see someone make a Game Mod that turns that into a full-fledged minigame.

I subscribe to the theory that everything outside of Madotsuki's apartment tower is kaputz.

Although that wouldn't explain how she can get the TV to work, unless she knows how to run a generator.

Is Uboa really that scary?

I've seen too many parodies of him now to find him TOO scary.

Anything sufficiently creepy will eventually fall victim to Ugly Cute. Or Freaky Is Cool.

Let's see... favorite things/places?

  • The 8-bit house where you get the Oni effect.

  • The Toriningen party.

  • The wharfs with the fishing guy, because they're cool and atmospheric.

  • The blocky white town with the faceless people, because it's one of the few places in the game I find genuinely creepy.

Recently, the Neon stage has been reminding me of Casino Night Zone, as well as something else that escapes my memory at the moment.

The sewers, including the Uboa-esque red-eyed green face in it.

My top five:

1. Going through the train ride to reach the swamp area. The fact that the train doesn't move, and the "people" you meet at the swamp were definitely one of the creepiest points in the game.

2. Going to Mars. It's well known, and not a difficult easter egg to find, but the whole thing almost seems to break the fourth wall even for this kind of game.

3. The skyline city with the girl that you can't touch. I guess I have this thing for the more ambient parts of the game.

4. Flying through the city as a witch. Epic, just epic.

5. The transitions through different worlds. It's these parts that really make you feel lost in a dream even if you know that the game isn't random.

Someone seriously should do a remake of this game and just add more content. It'd be an awesome download for an indy game.

I'd love to see a Yume Nikki Plus or whatever, with longer BGM and more ambience.

Me Too!.

I like the floating purple block world and the dancing chicken ... thing in it. And the lake with the faceless girls.

Gah, the one night I don't fall asleep to music to deter nightmares, I end up having a dream involving Yume Nikki and my local Japanese supermarket, as well as hints of Xiin and this one guro manga.

Ended up waking up about 90 minutes into my sleep and couldn't fall back asleep for unrelated reasons. Which was bad because I had two finals today.

Interesting... We both have a Monoko avatar, but still they practically are nothing alike.

Anyway, I became a fan of Yume Nikki through TV Tropes. I can only say: Thank you! Sleep is overrated anyway.

I don't have a favorite place actually and I haven't even seen everything yet. I've been the first time in the white desert just last week (if we don't count the area of the quivering jaw thing...).

I can't get it to work on my mac. Crossover is not co-operating.

I am annoyed because it seems quite intriguing.

Also apparently this emoticon looks like uboa: —> (´∀`)

Two month revival, but I believe that it's time. Is the developer still working on the game?

Everything is better as a Dunkleosteus.

I don't know, but it's a long time now since 0.10 came out.

I certainly wouldn't bet on another version.
