Really? No post for this series?

Anyway, our fighting/comedy series with tons of fan service, and a hero who somehow still has credible underdog status after almost 400 chapters.

I've never actually seen the animated version - only the manga - that any good?

Discuss.

^^The anime is good, but stops just after the fight with the 1st fist. And the moves are even more over the top.

^Yes, most of the female cast has large boobs, but that is more general fan service and running gag than part of the plot.

If I ranked my current favorite manga, Kenichi would definitely be in the top 5.

Took a look at some random anime scene and almost puked from the shitty art, crap animation and incredibly generic lines I've heard a billion times before.

My only problem with it these days is sooner or later I get tired of the Will They or Won't They? and this series has been running a for quite some time at this point. Still a lot of fun though.

The anime's pretty good, but the manga is way better. The pacing of the fights is suited more for the comic book format than animation, where the audience has to listen to thoughts being said as the action's happening, when the manga reads faster. However, it gets bonus points for the excellent dub quality.

I haven't seen the anime, but i've read a lot of the manga and i love every page. Kenichi isn't exactly a unique (Or even entertaining) protaganist, but that's probably the point. The true heroes are the masters, really.

The fighting stays awesome while completely avoiding a dragonball Z-style chaotic mess or standard shonen Calling Your Attacks escalation, rather having a nice mix that's all it's own.

Currently i'm on chapter... *Checks One Manga bookmark* 191, and i'm progressing at a decent clip. Sure is one heck of an enjoyable Archive Trawl.

And yes, the women are attractive. And there's not a Faux Action Girl to be seen. Rawr.

Personally, I wonder why they felt the need to remake the comic.

And yes, I like it.

And yes, the women are attractive.

Having breasts that are individually about the size of their own heads doesn't really do it for me. I enjoy the manga, but the fanservice really isn't to my tastes.

...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.

The current one is a restart that long since overtook the original. The first one was basically a compressed version of the Ragnarok arc with fewer characters.

Which confuses the hell out of people because the 'restart' is the one the english speaking audience usually runs into first. Since the last chapter pretty much wrapped up the last mini arc I wonder whats next. Still got a couple of members of Yomi left.

I'm pretty sure the restart is the one most Japanese readers ran into first.

How about Kisara?

I find Kisara more attractive than any of the other major female charaters purely on the basis of her not looking like she has a pair of bowling balls down her shirt. That's not a strong basis for finding someone attractive, but she wins by elimination.

^^ If I am not mistaken, Kisara is the "exception that proves the rule." Her more normal proportions make the other girls stand out more.

If you were asking if Kisara "does it" for him... no clue. Just thought my first comment was worth tossing out there wink

There's a flat character introduced not long ago who seems likely to be coming back, Raichi. I hope she comes back soon.

You people don't know what you want! Bigger Is Better! Always! ALWAYS!

I kid, i kid. I honestly don't see why kenichi discussions always involve a lengthly discussion of breasts. I've seen Ikki Tousen and Sekirei threads that mention it less.

Ikki Tousen and Sekirei are primarily vehicles for fanservice. If not for that, you're probably not going to watch them at all, so there's little point complaining about it.

One thing about HSDK i've noticed, and already entered into the WMG page, is it just me or does the oddness of a characters eyebrows directly correlate to their fighting ability?

I mean, look pretty much any of the names "master class" fighters, they're all got something crazy going on there. Also, when kenichi gets particularly fired up, he gets his own little eyebrow change.

Following my own logic, that would mean the glowing eyes are probably related in some way too, which is awesome.tongue

Unusual Eyebrows are, like any other defining feature in anime, is a sign of unbelievable martial arts prowess.

Koetsuji takes the cake. I loved the one scene where he walked out of the dojo with a bunch of kids in tow, and they where ALL sporting said eyebrows.

That was pretty funny - And yeah, I think you get more comments on the fanservice because there is a pretty decent story and fights along with the fanservice, and some people find it distracting or something (see - lengthy conversations on this in the Negima discussions). On the other had the fanservice is just one of the many reasons I like it. evil grin
