^ That's fitting even for the anime, which makes clear on a fairly regular basis that Jesse and James are complete weirdos and rejects who are probably the worst representatives of Team Rocket you could look for.
Speaking of which, I kinda like how we seem to be taking a Broad Strokes/ambiguous take on how much of the games or anime are canon. I suppose the rule is if there's nothing that contradicts it, it doesn't matter where the info comes from (though some stuff from the more obscure manga might need extra thought) but if they do or can contradict, either make a choice or be coy about it.
^The topic is in video games, not Manga/Anime. Pokemon anime has it's own thread there, and maybe you can make a fanon edition of it.
Something that's been bugging me, what year is it that Red/Blue/Green/Yellow are set in?
We know that GCS takes three years later, but the year isn't mentioned. Should we say the years they came out, so 1998 for gen 1, then 2001, or something? I want to say that Giovanni founded it on a specific year.
If not, what do I use to show time? What do we call the events of RBY.

Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.^ That could get very difficult. Pokemon has always had a 20 Minutes into the Future feel, and at the very least has some major Alternate History (see the war stories thread). There's never been any indication of when exactly they're set. All we know for sure is that Red/Blue (or Fire Red/Leaf Green or Yellow or whatever) and Sapphire Emerald take place at around the same time, and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and HG/SS take place three or four years later, again around the same time.
And I'm pretty sure we do not need to start making competing anime and video game versions of anything, the last thing this thread needs is a Broken Base.
^Keep the bases seperate then.
About Team Rocket, I was fiddling a bit with prologue. In the manual for the first games, it said that Giovanni was the regional head of Team Rocket in Kanto, with later games ret-conning this so he was the indisputed leader.
Involving this, I might do the sort of plot where Giovanni stole the organisation from another dude (Maybe his father), kicked out his brother (Who ruled Johto) and became head of Team Rocket completely.
How does it sound?
I'm also going to add in the theory that all the Team's after Rocket (Plasma, Galactic, Magma/Aqua) were ex-rockets.
Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.Guys, we already have an article on Team Rocket.
The Danse Macabre CodexOh. Well damn.
Back tow riting Glitch City then, fourth generation BE DAMNED!
Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature. It would be cool if you tied it to the Cinnabar Anomaly somehow.
Formerly known as Crow T. Robot.Personal Berserk Button for me, but keep the Rockets out of the origin stories of the other teams. The motives of each distinct team are wildly different to come from a single source.
As dangerous as the "real" Team Rocket is, they're far from the Big Bad of the Pokemon universe.
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!^x4 I'm not sure if it's terribly wise to suggest that Glitch City was the reason for the Kanto Safari Zone's closing, I mean, you can still find its warden over at the Johto Safari Zone (since he was the guy who founded it and everything). That said, it would probably be alright if you alluded to Glitch City in some way, provided that it be as unproven and indefinite as that other glitch we wrote about. Also, are we really allowed to call multiple articles at once? I was under the impression that we were supposed to call one at a time...
Oh, and that Aerodactyl article will be coming soon... Maybe...

Let's play a game about Pokémon...Alright FINALLY starting to work on Regice, Registeel shortly after.
And if no one else wants it I would like to call Houndour.
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!I'm done Skitty, now moving on to Exeggcute.
Formerly known as Crow T. Robot.Team Rocket doesn't really have that much in common with the other teams anyway. They were a straight-out crime syndicate, while Aqua and Magma were kinda weird ecoterrorists and Galactic are some kind of weird science themed cult slash corporation that secretly tried to summon and control ancient cosmic beings. And Plasma seem to be a Pokemon Wrongs Group.
Sure, in practice they were all nuisances and served similar purposes, but their motives and rhetoric are totally different.
^Why are they all called Team then? Why do they all have 2-3 leaders then lots and lots of mooks, instead of maybe tossing in the idea of generals or leutenants?
^^^^Well I'm not doing Team Rocket, as we have it already, so Glitch City it is.
A shame about Missingno, as I had a fanon plot of my own, but eh.
Can you explain to me otherwise why the Safari Zone was not coded into GSC? It was closed because of Glitch City, so it's a canon explanation.
Sort of. I mean, you use the old man glitch to meet Missigno, and the safari park owner is an old man.
COINCIDENCE?
...
Probably.

Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.^^ The Pal Park was still under construction at the time... Seriously though, the games' canon typically shifts with whatever they've got for their most recent games...

Let's play a game about Pokémon...The Safari Zone wasn't coded into GSC was because of lack of space in the Gameboy cartridge. That's the main reason why Kanto, as a whole, was so barren.
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!^The maps for the Safari Zone were left in the code. How do you explain that?
edited 24th Sep '10 8:08:01 AM by BigDaddyP
Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.^ The maps are one thing. All the data for that stupid Safari catch system is another.
The Bug Catching Contest filled the same niche.
They rushed the release and didn't have to code the Safari Zone in?
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!Games for children that we're perhaps reorganising?
If you can come up with a reason why they're called 'Team Whatever' go with it. I'm just saying, the canon reason is because they're meant to be so little kids go "Oh, this is the new bad guy like Team Rocket!"
And since R/S take place around the same time as Red/Blue, it's probably too soon for them to be splinter groups.
It might make sense if some Rocket members ended up in Team Galactic, using the same tactics and MO as before just with different goals, but I don't know if there's anything in-game to support that.
Kay guys I'm going to write an article on Team Rocket. It won't involve James and Jesse as you only see them once (Although I luvs them both).
