So, if Matthew above was a real card, how do you think he'd do in Commander?

Hexproof Puresteel Paladin, minus draw but plus instant speed equip and anti-nonbasic? My kneejerk reaction is 'top tier' but maybe that's just me.

Rather than pay the mana cost for a spell, you may exile a permanent you control with the same converted mana cost as that spell.
Whenever you cast a spell, exile a permanent you control unless you exile a card from your hand or pay X life, where X is that spell's converted mana cost.
To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.

He does do his Nonbasic Sacrifice thing to all of yours too, but I see your point. Puresteel Paladin is a powerful card, and Matthew is basically that, plus a red mana, with Hexproof, and let's you instant speed equip.

Why not add Angelic Armaments to the mix to give him Flying and a boost besides?

With Matt's ability, Argentum Armor costs exactly 2 to equip, another solid addition.

Dingus Egg is another card that will make your opponent cry in this deck; not only do they probably lose all their nonbasics, but this thing pings em for 2 every single time.

And Assault Suit is just plain mean - goodbye Diabolic Edict effects! You can't hit him any more.

Here's an idea for nonbasic lands;

• Shrine of Impermanence
• Land
• Tap, add 1.
• Tap, add B or G to your Mana Pool. Your opponent gains 2 life.

• Shrine of Fauna
• Land
• Tap, add 1
• Tap add W or G to your Mana Pool. Your opponent gains 2 life.

• Reclusian's Anterosept
• Legendary Land
• Tap, add W.
• 2, Tap, prevent the next 4 damage to any target
• WR, Tap, prevent the next 2 damage to any target and deal 2 damage to any target.
• WG, Tap, target player gains 3 life. That player gains 5 life if you control 2 or more Legendary Creatures.

• Damage cannot be dealt to ~ as long as there is another creature in play.

I think the 2, T, sacrifice ~: you gain three life is like, baked into the definition of food, so that might need to have an additional ability that does exactly the same but you also have to sacrifice it.

Which is kinda funny.

Have it so that the Gobstopper returns to your hand whenever it enters the graveyard.

"If everlasting gobstopper would leave the battlefield, return it to the battlefield under your control tapped"
