Quickie Questions

Go To

This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.

e.g.

Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?

Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?

Get the idea?

^^^ I don't know how good any of them are, but take a look at Freecad for possibilities.

Can anyone identify the source of this image? It's the image on This Index Is Full of Perverts . According to the "image source needed" thread, it's from an adult manga, probably well-known.

@mellon: Its use in lethal injection for execution dates from the 70s, but I can't find anything on its origins as a recommended drug in euthanasia.

Can someone give me a good picture of why the new Mac UI for Skype is so terrible?

I don't use Skype, but I've heard people complain about too many controls and options forced onto the same window.

@Angry Scientist: "May not 'Miss Pervert' fall in love?" appears to be the title, at least the most common translation thereof.

1: Is it possible to get Emacs without a GUI? The GUI version that I can find in my package manager doesn't look right on my netbook. 2: Is there a tutorial for Emacs that won't explode my head?

Most systems have two emacs packages available, one with X, one without, but you can always supply the command line argument '-nw' (No Windows, I guess) to start up in tty mode.

I learned from Emacs' own documentation, but that's probably not ideal.

I'm still in the credits for X Emacs — I was a beta tester, way back.

Ubuntu only seems to have the X11 and GTK+ versions, but -nw should work, thanks. And it won't be the first time I teach myself from docs, heh.

You will be a lot happier if your terminal sends DEL when you hit the erase key, not BACKSPACE, though I think modern versions of Emacs try and handle that a little more gracefully. For a long time, RMS was of the mind that it was your fault if you didn't map your terminal keys the way he preferred.

Aside from that, C-x C-c quits, C-x C-f opens a file, C-h is help, C-h i is info, which contains the manual.

Didn't they use sodium pentathol in MKULTRA?

I think so, but it's been a while, so don't quote me on it.

Why is it that when I move my (computer) mouse very fast, my eyes make it seem as if there are more of them on the screen than there actually are?

If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.
