The problem is since there doesn't seem to be any statute of limitations from what I've seen, this topic will only be brought up once again in a few months. If the current image stays the same, you know more people are going to complain again. I'm with everyone who doesn't like the current image. I just don't see what's so defining about it. Enel, Simba, and Wile. E. Coyote are significantly more pronounced in how they are drawn. They are exaggerated to the point where there's no confusion about what emotion they're trying to convey. The current image... not so much. Just make sure that Fan Myopia isn't pursuading your votes. There have been instances in the past where even I've downvoted for pictures that I personally love or even submitted because I know that something else better conveys the trope.

[up] I know every line of The Lion King by heart, and didn't even watch that thing from the "current" image, yet I still voted for that.

If anyone would start this thread again, it could be locked on sight, with the reason the majority prefers that image, period.

Considering that Enel, Simba, and Wile. E. Coyote got similar amounts of negative votes, so nothing proves that those wouldn't get new complaining threads.

Except that, as already pointed out, there are a variety of things Enel's reaction could be mistaken for. @ wanderlustwarrior

I'm simply saying that the same things could easily be said about any of them. Like take Quattro. I don't know that series. I could've easily been convinced that she just got word her baby was stillborn, or she was watching The Ring on TV, or her favorite basketball team lost.

I haven't seen the anime Quattro is from, I just think an understated "oh crap" expression communicates "I'm doomed" better than an exagerrated "OH CRAP!"... no Fan Myopia

Should that be a two-panel strip? First frame another shot of Quattro looking normal/smug (same shot, few seconds earlier?), second frame current image.

[up] Please, not another one of those retarded two-panels! Everyone knows how a normal face looks like, you don't have to demonstrate it!

I think you might be overestimating what "everyone knows". It isn't a question of what a live human face normally looks like, it is a question of what Quattro's face normally looks like.

I don't like strips either. I'm not one of the people who thinks that image needs help.

I wish I had better art skills or I'd make a collage and this would be a moot point.

I am deliberately not posting a collage because I think it looks weak. A collage doesn't render the discussion moot, it's just another option. Worse than Enel imo, and I voted against that image.

You honestly thing an image of Quattro, Wile, Simba, Enel, and others would actually be worse when it all conveys the emotion all in their own way?

Dramatically. I would rather have Wile E. Coyote by himself, and I think that image sucks for Oh, Crap!.

Hmm. Valid point wanderlust, I'll give you that one. I suppose anyone can simply defend their choices like that.

A bit of Fan Myopia? Perhaps. I'm not opposed to admitting it. I like Nanoha. However, I'll take a look at this objectively.

Quattro: Already stated my opinion on this, but I do think it works quite nicely. It's not overexaggerated (well, except within the context of the series. Of course, this is meaningless for the discussion) but that's not a face one puts on for anything but terror. Subtlety can be its own strength. One doesn't have to have an overstated reaction and go for the Large Ham. To be honest, the subtle shocked look of complete fear works wonders. I know that this won't help too much, but in an effort to weigh my point, I present to you all, the moment of fear.

Spoiler tags are in effect for anyone still watching Nanoha, view at your own risk.

Simba: Again, illustrates it well. However, Simba is on the page for Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises, a related trope to Oh, Crap!. Hell, both tropes bounce to each other with a "See Also". Maybe we should do some clarification between the two. If for nothing else, I don't particularly like the idea of having the same character on two closely-related pages. It removes some of the visual diversity of the wiki. Simba's impression is good though, I will admit that. If it ends up the winner, I won't be too disappointed.

Enel: I'm not a big fan of the before and after picture setup. However, I think a quote could make this a decent picture. It'd at least be able to clarify in that case. As it is, it looks like Luffy just delivered a rocket punch to Enel's balls (which, given Luffy's strength, would indeed be quite the Oh Crap moment.)

Wily E. Coyote's "Stop In The Name of Humanity" image: I love this one. Love it. LOVE it. And I'll tell you why - it makes me laugh like hell. There's something to be said for entertainment within the wiki. I think humor's a valuable thing, and as such, if I could vote one to the top, it would be this - even over the image of Quattro, which I think is the second best.

Really, I'm kinda with Eternal September on this one. Why are we trying to fix what isn't really all that broken? I suppose we're this deep into it though, so we might as well continue this dance.

There are a couple other things, but I'm going to attempt to observe the Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgment and keep from starting an Internet Backdraft. I'm leaving it on this note. I'm interested to see what'll happen though. Either way, I hope something enjoyable comes from it.

I was debating making a four panel collage. But then fans of whichever series I'd probably leave out would get mad.

Yes, this is the third (?) time the subject has been brought up. And the third time that there was consensus not to change, or no consensus to change.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but am I the only one to notice how this thread of responses, made mostly by the same half dozen or so posters has earned well over 50 votes for the various pictures? It makes me wonder if people are stuffing the ballot.

If so its kind of weird that no one has a clear lead... which would be a C Mo F if that were the case.

I don't think I've ever seen a crowner with so many votes with such a small margin.

A lot of people will vote on crowners but not bother to comment on the thread because they don't have anything to add that hasn't been said. Voting is far quicker than commentary.

^^^ Not everyone who has an opinion feels the need to discuss it. It wouldn't be the first time that the people posting in the thread and the people voting in the crowner but not posting in the thread have had very different ideas.

Hmm. So it's been a couple of days, and the Crowner seems relatively quiet. It seems that Simba and Quattro are basically tied and playing "bounce the leanings around".

What are the usual options when one has a tie? Stay the course, change, make a collage? Personally I'd just like to clean up the page header and make it look less up in the air. The Trope Repair on it has basically puttered out into nothingness, and it seems this has too.

The only real consensus we have is that the current pic and the Simba image have a decent lead over everything else, although it's not that big of a lead, and they're so close in votes that I don't know if we can call it between the two.

I thinks (and could be wrong) that standard procedure in this case would be to just leave the picture alone, as it's one of the top images.

Alright, should I go ahead and revert the Simba image then? Or could someone else do so, as I'm pretty bad with my code and not 100% sure how to put up a little unseen note saying "don't change the image, we've talked about it." Or do we leave the Simba image? It's up there right now at the moment, but it's not what the image was before we got started on this train of thought.
