I think, having read the official release on the new chapter, I know what Queen's role will be - the arc "mid-boss" that Luffy sometimes gets. Lufft mentioned that doing heavy labor while shackled with Seastone has made him stronger, and Raizo's here with the key. Bad news for Queen.

Re:Water Devil Fruit - I'm not sure if that can exist, given the lore. Devil Fruit users aren't stated just to be weak to water, but actually rejected by the sea. That might just be an urban legend (Vegapunk might give us a more scientific explanation later), but if not, a devil fruit that manipulates bodies of water would go against what a devil fruit is.

Question: for this hypothetical water Devil Fruit, are we assuming the user doesn't have the standard weakness to being submerged?

Because that seems to be the assumption mostly when this discussion comes up but, strictly speaking, there's no reason that would actually have to be the case.

I want the big reveal with Devil Fruits to be that they literally are the powers of demons who are hated by the ocean. Like, that whole story was actually 100% true, demons totally exist. The reason Blackbeard can eat multiple Devil Fruits is that he's somehow able to keep the Dark Dark demon and the Tremor Tremor demon from fighting and tearing his body apart from the inside.

That or maybe he's descended from those demons.

Huh the demons fruits drum up a sense of familiarity within me but I'm not sure for what.

I am still theorizing that the whole "you die if you eat two devil fruits" thing is a lie / Hoax / exaggerated myth that was spread by the WG to keep pirates from becoming too powerful, because nobody with enough resources/power to acquire two or more fruits for themselves would be willing to risk eating a second fruit if they firmly believed it would kill them.

After all, Kaido is still alive and given how desperately suicidal he seems, we can be absolutely certain he has at some point either tried this method to kill himself without success, or knows for a fact that eating another fruit wouldn't actually kill him and never tried.

Apparently Netflix greenlit the live action One Piece, because what doesn’t Netflix green light?

Ever since everyone started making their own streaming service, Netflix has been forced to make new shows that won't be taken away.

I honestly feel bad for them.

Looks like Netflix already deleted the page and one of the representatives confirmed that they have no comment on it.

So, only time will tell at this point.

Presumably because it wasn’t supposed to come up this early. If it was a mistake they would say “yeah, that’s not on our schedule.”

Could be. I think it most likely appears to be one of those non-disclosure agreement situations and Netflix isn't going to take any risks.

San Diego Comic Con is going to be VERY interesting this year.

Yep and as we all know, that convention is coming up in July, the same month as Anime Expo.

We will probably have to wait and see what the franchise, including the live-action series, has in store for us when that happens.

Speaking of which, I’m thinking that Industrial Light & Magic, WETA Digital and/or WETA Workshop, Digital Domain, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Animal Logic, Framestore or M5 Industries might do the visual effects for the live action series.

x5 - From what the producer said when the series was first pitched, they were seeking a budget of about $9 million an episode, which is Game of Thrones level.

What I am noticing as well is a lot of non-English social media mocking it, particularly the idea that US writers will overly P Cify it.

One Piece is a fairly tame series, the only thing that could be "Politically Corrected" is the pervy shenanigans, which SHOULD be changed.

Anyway, I wonder if they’re going to pull the Multiple Languages, Same Voice Actor route if the actors who play the characters re-dub their lines similar to what Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal have done with some of their roles when they dubbed their English dialogue into their native Spanish.

If I’m correct, Oda did mention that he had a proposal of which actors should play his characters. Oda's heavily involved in the adaptation after all.
