Anyone here a member of Chrono Compendium, or has visited the site before?

Well, now's your chance. Just send a letter to Squeenix letting them know how much you like the series and help convince them to make another entry in the franchise.

Together, we can make our hopes a reality!

^ Considering how well the petition to localize MOTHER 3 went with Nintendo (with over 30k physical siggies!), and SE's apparent hatred of fangames, I sincerely doubt anything will come of this...

Considering that Chrono Trigger for the DS sold pretty darn well and there's still no indication that they're willing to make a sequel suggests that no amount of fan effort will really make it happen.

It's also doubtful they'll be able to get the original crew back together, so what exactly are we wishing for?

Then we'll make them willing to make another game.

C'mon guys, let's be less pessimistic here. If we don't try, nothing will happen!

make them willing

This doesn't bode well.

Also the last sequel was quite contested. Why would they make another one?

Here's the thing: I'm not entirely convinced that I want another Chrono series game. I'm not a particular fan of Chrono Cross and I'm not sure if anybody at Square Enix can really do a game that does the original justice. I'm frankly quite fine with Yuuji Horii just making Dragon Quest games, Akira Toriyama was hardly the biggest thing about Chrono Trigger, and Hironobu Sakaguchi is at Mistwalker.

What precisely are you expecting out of such a game?

Make them do it? Kid, just stick with the two games, you are degenerating into fan dumb. If you liked the series, fine, but squeenix ain't making no sequel.

I'd be more interested in a Spiritual Successor to Chrono Trigger. Chrono Cross did bad things to the plot.

Add me to the section of the Fan Dumb that won't buy any new Chrono game that doesn't make Chrono Cross into Canon Discontinuity. (an enclosed written apology signed by everyone responsible for said game would be nice too :p )

A Spiritual Successor is fine too though.

Wow, Chrono Compendium, petition, and a sequel to a series that is in the hands of someone I trust will make it even worse than the last sequel?

Bah! People who give up their hopes as easily as you are the reason we don't see another Chrono game.

The reason we don't see another Chrono game is that Squeenix doesn't want to make one.

Even if they thought that millions of people would buy a sequel, if done properly, it's likely that they wouldn't do it because the people they'd need to have on board to see to it that it's done right aren't interested, and doing it wrong would be a great way to waste a lot of money.

...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.

I loved Chrono Trigger. I was delighted when the DS rerelease came out, and disappointed when it was announced that it hadn't sold well enough to justify more Chrono games. But now I kinda think it was for the best.

CT had a great cast and story, but it had a nice and happy ending (disregarding certain tweaks and hints to tie it into Chrono Cross). There's nowhere to go from there, really. If you tried to make ''CT' again, you'd just get a Mission-Pack Sequel.

The better thing to do, then, would to bring up a new cast, tell a new story building on the last one, and try something different. But when they did that the result was Chrono Cross.

While it'd have been nice for Chrono Break to be some sort of epic conclusion to the series that bridged the gap between the first two games and had our favorite characters coming together against a potent new nemesis in a jaw-dropping throwdown... well, games like that rarely happen. Why not throw in an unnecessary sequel hook for Chrono 4? Can we even use the Cross characters, and since the fandom is so divided over it, do we want to? Should we throw in some current RPG conventions to broaden the appeal, or stick with the mechanics of the old game... but which one? What if Mitsuda isn't available to do the soundtrack?

I guess it's pessimistic to list all the things that could go wrong with a game that only exists in a hypothetical sense, but I have a hunch each fan's mental version of Break would make them happier than anything that was released on the market.

Which is not to say I don't want another Chrono game - I want a Chrono Cross remake that isn't rushed, utilizes the game's potential, and let's me recruit Glenn without being a dick. Though that's probably as much a dream as wishing for Chrono Break.

I'm throwing my hat in with the "No thank you sir, I don't want another" crowd. Chrono Trigger was a game that didn't really need a sequel (Exhibit A: Chrono Cross). It's been fifteen years since Trigger was released, and I think there's some sort of unwritten statute of limitations on the wait between sequels, anyway. Any more than eight (see: Dumb and Dumberer, Son of the Mask), and I lose all hope of it being any good.

I do enjoy being the only person in the universe who preferred Cross over Trigger in every way.

Anyways, there's no way Square's making another Chrono game. No amount of petitions will change their minds, as much as that sucks.

I have no particular dog in this hunt, as someone who was never interested in any of the Chrono games, but the whole notion of "writing a bunch of letters will make them make a new game" is, at best, laughable.

Even using that 30K mentioned, above, as a starting point, that's simply not enough to make a game company think there's enough interest to produce a new game. 30K copies of a game potentially sold is a bomb. Freespace 2, for example, sold about 20K copies (yes, I was one of those sales), and it pretty much killed the entire space sim genre outside of the interactive screensaver that is EVE Online.

With the ever-rising costs of game productions (ignoring indie developers and random Flashtards, neither of which describe Squeenix), that'd be lucky to cover the salaries of the development team, let alone the other fiddly bits that go into making and selling a game.

On the upside, though, I do give the OP points for not saying to make it an online petition. Those are nothing but time-wasters for those involved, including the poor schlub at the target company who has to check those kinds of things to see if it's important enough to route to someone with actual authority in the company.
