Fresh-eyed movie blogMillership - your instructions were unclear - tried to put my neighbors barking puppy to sleep with 3 Dog Night - it didn't work....
How is everyone doing? Had my first diabetes education meeting a few months after I had already made adjustments to suit. My Blood Sugar Numbers look good, they are a little worried I might not be eating enough and encouraged me to eat bananas again plus I can have potatoes with my breakfasts.
Got my DNA tested through ancestry. I am way more Irish than previously believed. 40% Irish, 27% English, roughly 25% German, Finish, Swedish, and Danish, and 8% Scottish.
Who watches the watchmen? My son turns 11 months old today. Some insights I've gained after the first 11 months of parenthood:
- The probability of you getting covered in your baby's bodily fluids per day is never equal to zero and increases as he becomes more mobile.
- Playing catch-up with a toddler who can't even walk yet is surprisingly exhausting.
- Babies are natural wrestlers. Khabib Nurmagometov is just an overgrown toddler who learned how to punch.
- Sleep is for wimps, but having a loving partner by your side who can watch your back while you catch that missing z's helps. Marriage and relationship with your spouse doesn't stop after childbirth, it becomes even more important.
- My wife and I are in the service industry 4life now, and the client is not only our baby, but also the environment he grows in. I haven't been this political for my entire life. There's a saying that "there's no such thing as someone else's child" and for me it meant that becoming a parent can open a new level of empathy towards other people.
- There is no material gains for having a baby - they're a money sink, your daily stress levels rise significantly, and your past, present and future do not belong to you anymore. But the feeling when your son reaches his hands for you to hold him is incomparable. I can actually feel the spirit of some caveman I've descended from (or whatever) doing a happy oonga-boonga dance in whatever afterlife he's in when my son smiles at me. I can also understand the words of Cus D'Amato that Iron Mike Tyson was his reason to keep going and that he wants to live to see him succeed.
My son turns 11 months old today. Thank you for choosing us as your parents. I'm so happy we share a life, even if the first 16-18 years will pass quickly. We've learned a lot from you.

Spiral out, keep going. That's awesome man. Sounds like you are enjoying being a parent lumps and all.
Who watches the watchmen?I guess most of it due to the fact that I've become more or less mature and completely separated from my own parents when the kid was born (I was 32). Same thing for my wife. Also, we actually wanted to become parents, that's the most improtant part, I think.
And for my part, I completely understand people who want to be child free - parenthood is really a thing that's not for everyone and it is cruel (both to the future parents and the child) to pressure someone into it (like many older-generation people in our country like to do, especially to women).
Average first-time parents age here in Kazakhstan is around 27 years and due to the sorry state of the economy and cultural reasons, most of the young parents live with their own parents when that happens (usually father's parents). We have the highest rate of marriage and also the highest rate of divorces in the region. The most common reason for a divorce is "parental interference" and it very often happens after a child is born.
Spiral out, keep going. For the second time in about a year got robbed at gunpoint at my store. Honestly boring as the first time.

All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be on The First 48I am becoming more bitchy and crotchety as time passes...
Alas sweet youth, where have thy gone?
you must recaptured it somehow!
New theme music also a boxturned 25 today. or yesterday by now, i guess. is that old? feels like a few too many, to be honest
regardless, all shall be wellIt can feel old. Especially looking back at the generations behind you. I am currently just old enough that the current generations old enough that the young generation coming up and heading out into the world are old enough to smoke and buy alcohol in my state. I am literally at an age to be one of their parents.Though I am lucky in that I don't quite look my age I certainly feel it.

Who watches the watchmen?Welp. I have a decently paying job and is over 30, as well as feeling very tired and crotchety.
So I guess I can comfortably post in this thread now.
....Oh GOD, while I knew 30s would come eventually but I'm still not used to it. (sobs in existential dread)

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. So, remember about the stray cat we've adopted last winter? We took her in not only because we felt sorry for her but also so our first cat (which we took in as a kitten from an acquantance) can get socialized. She was in her teens and needed some mentoring on how to cat. So after half a year of playing and chasing after the former stray (and vise versa, that small ball of fur has some serious jiu-jitsu skills on her), our kittie went from wildly-running-around-jumping-on-your-back-with-claws-out to actually tolerating playing with three kids (my nephews) and refusing to bite/scratch them (!!!).
Anyways, the stray has been acting as the kittie's introverted roommate with us this whole time. No petting, only shows up to play/eat/use the toilet/barf (because her digestive tract has been screwed up by her former lifestyle), nowhere to be seen when there are strangers around, and only interacting with us when she needed something, which we thought is rather manipulative. In stark contrast with the kittie, who is basically our first baby before the actual firstborn.
So starting from last couple of weeks the former stray started actually seeking our attention just for the sake of it! Asking for a back scratch, rubbing herself against your legs, and generally acting like her cute exterior suggested. It all culminated when she used my stomach as a pillow.
I'm beyond happy to see that.
Spiral out, keep going. That's wonderful! Sounds like the stray had trust issues. You leaving it alone while providing for its needs showed it that you're trustworthy.
Judging by her initial behavior - she knew what a litter is and how to use it, wasn't that aggressive towards humans and generally knew how to communicate with them - she was someone's pet before being abandoned at a rather young age. She's also been on the streets for a while - she's mostly silent, doesn't really meow and vocalises mostly by this strange bird-like chirping and very loud purrs. No wonder the poor thing has trust issues.
It took her a week to trust the new environment enough to poop, FFS.
Spiral out, keep going.Meowing is the language cats use to talk to humans. Cats talk to each other with those sounds.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI just remember when one of our cats had a fit/seizure they would make a really loud pronounced 'meow'
New theme music also a boxMy cat who's been with me since he was a kitten rarely meows. Most of his noises are chirps and trills. Or yowling when he wrestles with my other cat. I think it just depends on the cat.
Found out that "My Mother Told Me" works rather well as a lullaby. The lyrics, if sung softly, are rather fitting, too, with sailing to distant shores and standing high on the prow and shit. Until you get to hewing the foe-men, that is.
Spiral out, keep going.
