Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[tup] to Morgan [tdown] to Darren.

Okay so since everyone, especially ACW, wants an effort post on Majd Addin from Assassin's Creed to put the debate to rest, I might as well be the one to do it.

Who Is He? What Has He Done?

Majd Addin is a member of the Templar Order who was appointed by Sultan Saladin to rule the city of Jerusalem in Saladin’s absence. This proves to be an horrible decision on Saladin’s part as Majd proves himself to be an utterly tyrannical excuse of a leader as he abuses his position to conduct daily execution on the masses of Jerusalem for no reason other than it makes Majd feel like a god.

These daily executions would cause the deaths of dozens of innocents, if not mores, with one woman about to be executed saying that the only "crime” that she was guilty of is not sleeping with Majd, while Majd would deliberately undo all of Saladin’s progress on Jerusalem all so Majd can further his control towards that people through fear and intimidation.

Conducting his most recent daily execution, Majd would become one of Altair’s targets and would assassinate Majd before he could execute his lattest batch of innocent. From there he would gleefully brag to Altair that he deliberately executed dozens of innocent people because it was fun and enjoyed being feared by his oppressed people before Altair stabs him in the neck, ending his reign of terror for good.

Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities?

No backstory on Majd other than he was a scribe that was chosen by Saladin to rule Jerusalem in the latter’s absence. Also unlike his fellow cohorts he had no delusions that he was doing anything good nor had any intentions on doing so. He just a power-hungry sadist with zero redeeming features who enjoys oppressing people and executing innocents simply because it made him feel powerful.

Heinousness

Now the Assassins Creed heinous standard has evolved overtime but I think Majd can still passes the overall heinous standard, and he’s easily the most heinous villain in Altair’s era.

Majd has conducted numerous executions on a daily basis and when hearing the people converse about Majd they said that he has done this many times before accumulating a very high body count. He has no reason to do all this other than to fuel his sadistic god complex.

Final Verdict

I said my case so I’ll leave the rest to you guys to make a decide, and if Majd does not get the minimum votes required (five) then I’ll let the cut happen.

[down] Well people have said that Majd has executed numerous people every day and we see one of them, Majd has established a patter.

I still vote cut. I think that people like Il Carnefice and The Embalmer do more nasty things with less resources.

While I'm at it I'm going to address the Ur-Example argument just so I can get it off of my chest. I consider it to be a flimsy and stupid argument, I very much disagree that a character who is out heinoused by later characters can still be up just because they came first. I urge people to vote based only on his qualities as a CM candidate and not based on the fact that he came first. If people think that he's heinous enough that's fine but I don't want him staying up just because he's from the first game. I don't want this to seem like I'm attacking anyone, I just want to say why I don't think that it's a good reason for a candidate to stay up.

I'm still a no on Majd. I think the later villains waaay outheinoused him like Il Carnefice or the Embalmer to the point it's not funny anymore. We cut Iron Masked Marauder or Tao Pai Pai because they got outheinoused in the future which is understandable. And if he ends up keeping, I won't lose my sleep on that. And I can understand people still see him as a keeper due to being the Ur-Example.

[tup] To the Scars, Morgan... you know what, sure to Addin to. I'll be honest, while Addin may not be as bad as other candidates, it's worth noting that he has a bit of a limit considering the setting. Not peaceful mind you, but compared other candidates the setting he's in is a little more civilize and outright killing isn't something you'd probably get away in the Third Crusade. I mean you could, but definitely not like Ancient Greece or Egypt.

Okay so there’s this one character that’s been eating at me for a while mainly due to the show that he’s in a the flack I might get for effort posting him, but since we got someone from Moral Orel approved I thought I give this guy a shot. From The Boondocks I give you Ed Wuncler I

Who Is He? What Has He Done?

Ed Wuncler is an overweight, rich person whose family founded the town of Woodcrest and lived in the area for over a century and the closest thing this show has to a Big Bad.

First making his major appearance in "The Itis" He exploits Robert's dream of opening a restaurant by giving him such a restaurant. He the has Robert hire illegal workers and makes the food unhealthy and fattening, knowing full well that would the restaurant's food was so addictive making the people become obese and ill. This would eventually turn the nearby park into a cesspool of crime, which is exactly what Ed fully intended since this will lowering the property value of the land where he buys the land for dirt cheap.

He appears once more in "The Block Is Hot" where he tricks Jazmine, a 10 year old girl who started a lemonade stand, into working in sweatshop conditions for him on the hollow promise that he'll give her a pony. He then takes all of Jazime's hard earn money while leaving Jazmine in a massive dept.

In the episode "Thank You for Not Snitching" Ed exploit the Fried Chicken epidemic by having had his grandson Ed III and Ed's friend Gin Rummy break into people's houses to hurt and kill people so his community would buy his expensive security system.

In the episode "Red Ball" its revealed he traumatized Huey Freeman into thinking that he crippled a girl in a kick ball game that Ed himself rigged so intentionally goading Huey into severely injuring said girl. He then proceeds to blackmail Huey into playing in the kick ball game against the Chinese by revealing he that he bet the entire town and its people’s freedom of to the Chinese. Huey reluctantly agrees, however the Chines had bribed the referee into letting their team win. Ed's response have the referee tortured and killed then replace him with another referring that benefit Ed's team, Uncle Ruckus. In the end Ed's team manages to win.

Now in is last major appearance "It's Goin' Down", reveals to Huey and super agent Jack Flowers that he was the mastermind behind the terrorist attack having his grandson and his friend Rummy set up and attempt detonate a bomb in a buildings attempting to kill a security guard, completely uncaring if he kills all the other people in the building, so that Ed can profit from the death. He also shows complete disregard for his own grandson’s actually goading Jack to kill him. When Huey and Jack foil this ploy and prepare to arrest Ed, he calls president Obama to tell Jack to stand down, escaping justice Scott free.

Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities? Other Militating Factors?

No excuse. He’s just a rich Fat Bastard who commits anything unethical thing that he can think to suffice his greed if it. He might also act polite in public but it is just that, an act. He shows no concerns for the well being and lives anyone even his own family. Case in point, he tells Jack to shoot his own grandson dead when Jack was holding him hostage.

Now there’s also the setting where on wether his actions are Played for Laughs or not. My answer is that I think that his action are treated serious by everyone both in-and-out universe and he doesn’t have a sense of humor.

Heinousness

Even in a show that has its moments of Black Comedy I believe that Ed Wuncler does more than enough to make himself especially heinous even by the show’s standards. He deliberately got people sick with his food, has made Woodcrest a cesspool of crime twice, forces an innocent girl Jazmine to work at sweatshop conditions, while also having done this to many others children in third world countries, has his grandson terrorize, hurt, and even killed people countless of times, tricks a child into thinking he crippled a girl while also being the one goading him to injure her in the first place, and intended to detonate a bomb full of innocents just to get to one man.

The only other person who I can’t think of the matches Ed Wuncler I in terms of vileness is his son Ed Wuncler II. However while II doesn’t really have any confirmed body count, with it only implied that he has killed people, Ed Wuncler I has indeed murdered people, have a decent body count, and was explicitly trying to kill people in a building.

Final Verdict

I’m a little conflicted about wether he counts or not, but I do believe that he’s at least worth an effortpost. I’m leaving the decision for you guys to decide?

I saw that Bill Cipher has three quotes. With that, I'd like to nominate a second quote for Judge Frollo.

Judge Claude Frollo: Burn it.
Captain Phoebus: What?
Frollo: Until it smolders. These people are traitors and must be made examples of.
Phoebus: With all due respect, sir, I was not trained to murder the innocent.
Frollo: But you were trained to follow orders.

Or, if the "Burn it" part is too vague, just the last two lines.

Captain Phoebus: With all due respect, sir, I was not trained to murder the innocent.
Judge Claude Frollo: But you were trained to follow orders.
