Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[tup] Klael. That was a really easy keep as he sounds like a creepy stalker like Frollo rather than actually being in love with her.

Scraggle: Several murders and an attempted rape...who out-heinouses him?

I still think there has to be a Christopher Lee CM out there SOMEWHERE.

So anyone from Happy Death Day worth discussing? Having watched I am personally on the fence but may be swayed by a convincing EP.

I must say, if anything, the villain is REMARKABLY petty.

How does killing somone in a time loop over and over again in different ways even work. Does it count as just one murder or multiple.

@98161 So who else in that club of people not expected to be a CM?

The weird thing for me is establishing the loop. Is the killer a Reality Warper that can control time?

[up][up] She killed more than one person though. Tree was just her most frequent victim but yeah I am not exactly sure how that measures in terms of heniousness myself.

[up]Exactly. Setting a Serial Killer on the loose to cover your tracks is pretty nuts too. With a proper EP, I think I know where I'll vote with this.

On a Groundhog Day type loop, your brain (if you're the killer) experiences murdering the victim multiple times in that loop.

[up] If you remember between loops, that is. From what I read, there's no evidence she was causing the loops or that she knew about them.

[up][up] Yeah she didn't know about the loops nor had anything to do with them. The film never really explains why the loops keep happening, Tree just apparently has this super power where she can subconciously keep reversing her own death.

[up] She would count easily if she was actually creating the Ground Hog Day loop or aware of it but since it is tree. I don't know as I lean yes but my previous question about the heinousness of how that is judged needs to be answered first.

@miraculous: If the killer is unaware of the loop then I wouldn't count them as multiple murders if they kill the same person over and over. Its not really multiple crimes, just the same one. Groundhog Day Loops don't really increase heinousness.

Yea on Julian.

On Happy Death Day... no, nobody counts. Joseph Tombs doesn't clear the standard with what we see, and apparent nice girl Lori, Tree's killer, is indeed a petty, jealous piece of work, but she fails the heinous standard hard. The "multiple loops" thing kills any chance of her building a substantial rapsheet.

Yeah weirdly if she knew about it then that would be a different story but since she does not then she is a no.

It's been quite a while since her part in the story of Questionable Content was concluded, so allow me to ask:

Has Corpse Witch been examined? She's the first and so far only truly evil character in the comic, and while she seems to be providing for the robots in her care, she's more interested in keeping the fighting rings open and making money from it.

We will get to her eventually. [up]If you want you can effort-post her. But that cant be me as Im already busy checking out Dr crombell, Maduke and Dr Aris from another webcomic called Noblesse. Each should count easily but I just need to wait for there arc's to finish or to reread the finished one for Maduke.

As well as preparing hopeful effort-posts on Satan Egos and Yamato Takeru. Each should be an easy keep as Satan Egos is a sinister cult leader who forcefully mutates people to be his monsters, unleashes natural disasters, and grows massive to destroy the whole of Japan in the finale. While Yamato is a 2000 year old body jacker who forcefully overrides his personality to take over the body of his descendants, eats the souls of his minions and killed his own brother as well as trying to rape his niece. There such lovely fellows.

Lori kills more than just Tree though. She has a body count of five people to be exact: Tree multiple times, Nick, Danielle, Gregory and a police officer. And she set Joseph Tombs loose making her indirectly responsible for his murders too.
