During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Smasher's write up for the game is more a formality than anything, as his main entry is on the page for the tabletop game itself. In hindsight, there's really not much point in expanding it.
Think you're tough because you made it through Lord of the Rings? Real men survive The Silmarillion.to the Joker video, Professor Green, the Lord Raith quote, the Ethniu quote, Doctor Livingstill, General Yamazaki, Priest Unryu, Lloyd Hansen, the Iago edit, and the King Runeard expansion. Keep Amon Goeth.

So I think we might need to make a cut
- WARP by Eoin Colfer:The Hangman's Revolution:Colonel Clayton Box is a former FBI agent who killed his best friend as a young boy just to see if he could. Taking advantage of the timestream to go back and establish the Boxite Empire, Box uses brainwashing, murder and torture, creating a force that tears apart the world, killing millions and torturing and "reeducating" many others. When Riley and Chevie try to stop him, Box intends on forcing the world to submit by gaining access to a set of ballistic missiles, intending on leveling major European cities with no heed of civilian casualties.
Here's his original EP: here.
I've had reservations about Box for a while, now that I got around to rereading WARP I think Box does genuinely love his mother.
Near the end Chevie hits one of his minions with a vase, which turns out to be his mother's urn. When Box sees this he's not just outraged, he's saddened. The book says it's the first time he's felt sad or cried since he was a baby, that Box himself is surprised by the outburst. He wonders why he cares since those ashes weren't his actual mother, but he admits he does care.
Yes, Box does earlier think he loved his mom because he came from her, but this outburst seems like genuine care from an otherwise completely stoic sociopath. I think he does love her.
REALITY IS AN ILLUSION, THE UNIVERSE IS A HOLOGRAM, BUY GOLD BYEEEE! | She/HerRuneard expansion.
Keep Goeth.
Just an empty void…Goes without saying, but to keeping Goeth, I like the Iago fix and I agree with the Runeard expansion too.
Yeah, while I also won't name the Troper, this does indeed look to be an accident. They should've let the Tropers in question—including Lighty—know first though or to just adjust the dates without changing or losing the reservations.

Yeah, Runeard just keeps getting worse and worse. It makes me wonder if there's going to be a new tie-in novel that makes his attempted genocide on the Northuldra explicitly clear…
Just an empty void…The Conspirators. Having watched the Live A Live playthroughs, I agree that they count.

I too think it was an accident. While it wasn't me this time, I tend to delete stuff that's past the date.

I would say cut Box unless someone can provide a good argument why this is not mitigating.
I'm feeling a cut for Box with the info given. It sounds like he's mostly a sociopath just curious he feels a closeness to anyone but the narrative saying there's a look of not only rage but also sadness when her urn is smashed leads me to think they're indicating he's got genuine feeling towards her, even if he himself doesn't understand it.
I would focus on Box's own narration. From what I recall, he makes clear his only care for his mother is producing him. It's been ages and I don't have the book at hand, but I'd like that thoroughly addressed.

Just imagine something here.
Smasher good there Lore? Lighty's needs a break but I'm sure he wouldn't care if you throw in a relevant crime (Idk the work) community thread and all.
